I've just reinstalled this. I tried it out back in the early days but was never too impressed. It has come a long way since then though.
The only issue I have with apps like this, including Lookout, is how much information is available to it. Not only does it require permissions to just about everything but if you wanted to (and have root), you can also grant it root access.
You place a lot of trust in the developers of apps like this that your information wont get misused in anyway.

Do you need to wait for a license to be activated? Filled out the form and haven't received an e-mail and the license status hasn't changed.
Really glad I saw this thread. Was looking for a good security app and I am really impressed by how well cerberus can control your phone.

I hopped on this. Was looking for a good standalone app that provided web based methods of access. Thanks. I shared this post on my facebook profile as well to get the word out. I know a couple of co-workers that could of used this including one who did actually lose their phone.

The browser interface is pretty awesome. Couldn't believe how accurate this app is. I'm glad that I finally decided to get on this at the right time!

Just curious if there were any other apps that offered the SMS control that this app does. It's probably the defining feature, since no data = no way to reach your phone. The SMS idea is honestly amazing.
However, I'm curious to see the battery hit (since I would assume it's constantly active). Battery's the main reason why I leave something like webkey off by default...

the developer claims there is no battery drain until you activate the app via web commands or sms commands, it's no different than any dormant app on your device. since Cerberus isn't broadcasting anything or doing anything until you tell it to, it's logical that there is no impact on CPU or battery.
i've been using it for a few days now and i can't say my battery drains any faster than usual.
as for another "find my device" app that takes sms commands, avast! mobile security does. i use it regularly for the lost device protection and firewall capabilities. if you don't have google voice, avast will also take care of blocking calls and sms for you too. i have only recently switched to Cerberus because of the free life time service and web interface, avast does not offer a web interface for finding your lost device yet. also, avast will run constantly, due to it's more robust nature. you can install the theft aware portion of avast! and discard the main app though, putting it on par with Cerberus' offering.

Love this app! I had been using Mobile Defense beta for quite some time as it had a great web UI with options. But this has a lot more options. Personally, it didn't pinpoint my location as great, but that could just be my device (rooted Thunderbolt). Still, it was close and I'm sure with some extra work I'd be able to find my device if it were ever lost.
I like the extra options for rooted users. Mobile Defense had this. The ability to embed it in the ROM is very helpful.
This is feature rich and even without free license offer, I still purchased this because I appreciate all the work that the dev put into this! For that 14yo kid on here, you need to tell your parents to purchase this for you. Any smartphone nowadays is worth $$. My kids have lost phones before and for $4, it's better insurance than having to buy a new phone! So tell your parents this..."buy me the $4 app and keep my phone, that you bought, safe...or pay full/partial price if it gets lost or stolen." To me, as a parent who buys his kids' phones, this is a no-brainer. Not to mention the fact that as a worried parent, I can login and creep my kids' phones to see where they are. Yeah, I do that. Don't judge. When you have teenagers some day, you'll understand.
As far as gripes, the only one I have is that a better How-to/Help section could be way better. I like the Q/A type, but it's short on useful information such as exactly how to use the wipe features. Yes, these are no-brainers, but do I get a chance to cancel if I accidentally hit it? What's the process? Is it like the government nuke big red button? Once you hit, you can't undo? Maybe a better tutorial would be better. Also, exactly how do you use the SMS feature? I found a number embedded in the menu within the app, but the Help section on the website just mentions SMS commands. If I never looked at that number, how would I know how to use this function?
When you write how-to sections, you have to write it from the perspective that you're explaining to someone who has NO IDEA how to use this. If you know the app inside and out, and then create a how-to section, most likely you're going to leave a lot of information out.

transfer phone and all apps on it to another user

i have a galaxy s2 with many free and paid apps on it. i wish to transfer ownership of the phone and all applications including paid ones to a friend so that he does not have to buy all the paid apps on it again.
i would think it is possible since i paid for use of them if i wish to give up use under my name and assign use to someone else using the same phone i should be able to. i cannot find a way to do this in play store or in appbrain.
does anyone have a clue how to do this or know where to point me for instructions?
i would have better luck contacting Abraham Lincoln than i would trying to contact google.
as it is the phone will probably try to self destruct once i change the gmail account it runs under so i want to have this in place in the stores so it can verify and re-get the apps if necessary without hassle since the stores would know that he owns the phone and apps..
any help would be greatly appreciated.

LOL might be.. they seem to think of everything i cannot believe they didn't think of this. transfer of equipment and associated 'licenses' is very common.

i admit i am not familiar with titanium backup. outside of restoring any odd apps onto the phone so they run again, would that list the paid apps withi play store so when he gets an update to an app they wont try to charge him again? i want his apps account to totally recognize the s2 and all apps as 'his' without question so they will not try to charge him for them. i will have no rights at all to those apps on that phone. i have a galaxy note that i had to pay for all the apps again for it which is as it shoudl be.. it is a different phone...
i want to hand him the phone set up for his account such that when he goes to do anything with play store or appbrain they will recognize the phone and all apps on it free and paid, as his.

It is not possible to transfer apps from one user to another. It isn't even possible to transfer them to a different Google account that you use.
Read the Google terms and conditions and you'll see this on there - nothing you can do about it.

thank you. no i have not read their drivel. so then they on one hand scream freedom from being locked to a specific provider, and turn around and lock the phone in a far more sadistic and restrictive way. what we need is a company who believes in total freedom and implements such. they are no better than apple then..

The only one solution is to put your gmail account on the phone of your friend. But of course he will have an access to all your mails etc, so I don't think it is a good solution !

no. i did that once a few years ago for someone i trusted. that person abused the trust and bought all kinds of expensive apps and used my gmail email account as their own. i had to close everything out and start fresh so i will never do that again.
there is no earthly reason why a phone and all its installed apps cannot be moved from one account to another except google's apparent need for control or laziness in coding the proper routines.

They may well use an Open-Source software for their devices, which is a fantastic thing, but they are a business and exist to make money. You don't 'own' the apps when you buy them - you are just getting the right to use them. Anything beyond that would be considered on-selling, even if you are making no money from it. Do you think that Apple would let you transfer apps to a different account? Or Microsoft for that matter?

when you pay for an app you pay for a license to use that app. there is no reason why you cannot transfer that license to another person as long as you give up all rights to use that license yourself. i have done this with many microsoft applications and they support it. or at least they did as of the beginnings of xp. i would give the original disks to the person, remove the application from my machine and then i called msoft and advised them of the license transfer. they took the info and were happy. apple simply is not a contender in this situation. they are all about control. even moreso than microsoft and i would never have believed i just said that. dont get me wrong they make some incredible hardware and systems, i just totally am at odds with their business philosophies.

So I got a $20 GooglePlay Certificate for Xmas but I have no idea what to use it for, being a rooted user and all. Should I just buy whatever and just have no discretion on the credit? or is there something specific I should use the credit on that can be useful even though I am rooted? I still use my Samsung Epic4g, but I'll be getting a Nexus 7 in about a week or so.
Any suggestions would be thankful.

Not quite sure what being rooted has to do with it... unless your implying that you simply use pirated apps. In which case here is a crazzy idea why not pay for some of those apps you stole.
If you don't mean that there are plenty of good paid apps for root users or just get pro versions of apps you use alot

Get Titanium Backup, its a great backup app for rooted users, it backs up apks, app data, etc.

Yeah as stated from above buy the pro version of apps that you like or if you don't necessarily want an application get a game GTA Vice City recently came out.

yeah, that is probably what I will end up doing. I don't have too many apps other than voodoo which is one that I purchased. I was just wondering what other beneficial cool apps are out there for rooted users that I could use other than the regular apps or non pro version apps I have already. I guess I would just upgrade some of the game apps I have currently. Really sorry for the confusion...

Please help, I am unsure what to do now that I received my Umidigi S2 Pro unlocked phone that I purchased from GearBest and waited a month to receive-- booted it up and ran malwarebytes on it only to learn it has two adware programs built into the system. Norton did not find anything except a KRACK (some sort of Key reboot wifi vulnerability???) risk (not sure if it is on the phone or just an alert for my home wifi?). I thought I was getting a nice smartphone at a good price, but now I am very worried if I can trust such a phone from china-- would it be safe to set up the phone for online banking, for email with my email username and password? Should I just sell the phone on ebay and go back to using my ASUS phone that I bought in the USA where I live? The Umidigi is such a nice looking phone, but if it is a security risk I certainly will not use it, I would then sell it and take the loss and learn the lesson, ugh.
Quicktouch apparently contains the following adware as detected by Malwarebytes: Android/Adware.Xinyinhe.CJ
TouchPal 2017 apparently contains the following adware as detected by Malwarebytes: Android/Adware.Cootek
^^^They are both system apps so they are not so easily removed.
Thoughts, advice?

I bought a new Umidigi phone from an online store, now turns out it seems to be rooted, should I just throw it away or is there any resoanable explanation to why it is like that. Is there anything I can do to be able to use this phone with safety.

Did a root checking or antivirus app say it's rooted? I knew these phones have adware & questionable issues around personal data, but didn't think they come rooted. Though maybe some third party with access to phone rooted it, was it sealed when you got it? ( Could also have been installed in factory by unauthorised person or at instructions of Chinese government (though probably only if you or your company is a high value target))

Don't waste your money.
I have Umidigi S2 Pro.
It has very low quality.
The touch screen is very hard to use.
Cheap plastic material with very poor build quality.
The battery real capacity is not 5000mah. The battery is not detectable by battery software. Perhaps only 3000mah
The camera is so blurry. You just get fuzzy pictures.
Too many applications crashed instead of 6GB RAM.
The worst thing it come without any guarantee.
It' nothing but wasting my valuable money.

Can you imagine the fallout for a company, trying to compete in the International Marketplace if just ONE of their products was found to be phishing? In fact it would be commercial suicide in their own countries too.
I have a Umidigi A3, bought for a third of the price of my similar spec Samsung, and I also found that certain apps stated the phone was rooted, but root checkers and superuser software all found this not to be the case. I always rooted my early phones to play around under the hood, but lately certain establishment apps would refuse to work stating security issues with root so I haven't rooted my last couple of phones.. I have had no such problems with my A3. My establishment apps check and wave my little A3 through with a smile. False positive? I'd say likely. The cost of the license to use the latest Google Android OS kind of negates the reasoning behind 'the phish' . I believe the tweaks needed to customise the OS to Umidigi products is what causes these false posies.
And the build quality is superb!! For the price I paid, it may be akin to a Mini in the vast world of mobile communications, but it's deck out with the shiny walnut dashboard and plush seats of a Mini Rolls Royce. Time will tell about it's reliability but so far I don't think I'll ever pay hundreds of pounds for a mobile phone again.

My whole take on this Chinese security question is this.
1st, Google is a bigger (biggest) privacy risk. They can access your phone anytime without you knowing (if they wanted to). But yet no one thinks twice about trusting them, plus most people allow them to save all their passwords and info. But yet it's no concern to most.
2nd, A lot of other phone companies have their internal chips produced in China. And if the Chinese really wanted to spy, it's gonna be built into the hardware.(backdoor) Heck the US government was doing this. Everyone forget?
A lot of these proprietary chips even have access to your internet so they can download their proprietary drivers in the background without your knowledge.
There is no true security. The backbone of the internet was built to share information not secure it. Security starts with you. Everytime you choose to have private information at a convenience, you sacrifice security.
And as far as post 1 which I know is a year old, but for anyone that stumbles across this. The adware that was detected was probably all from TouchPal keyboard. That app is so junk, it even installs apps on your phone. It's always preinstalled on provider phones and such.
Google shouldn't allow these apps to be approved and these companies need to be held accountable for allowing these practices.

HHi, thanks for replying. The bitcoin wallet app said it was rooted, so yeah. But there were other strange things, like the draw lines security lock already is set so that I can't change it or use it. I bought it on aliexpress "new". It came it its' package and everything in it only it had been opened. It was stuck at costumes for a while so it seemed as if they opened it and play with it a bit there, but then after I saw the rooted thing everything us looking phisy.
Honesty, regardless, having this device made me understand once and for all where all the money goes to with those top dollar phones and why it is so worth it. Cause yeah, you kind of have everything... But it all sucks. Screen sucks, camera sucks. Multitasking sucks. Battery sucks. Radiation feel sucks, and seems pretty sure security sucks. So yeah, you kind of have efrything, but the low quality is felt. Daily.

Chinese brand phones cannot be trusted. It's best to buy Japanese or American ones, at least they're more secure in terms of malware and Trojans.

S8+ bypass in-app purchases ban?

I've been wondering if there is a way to bypass device ban from making in-app purchases in apps installed from samsung's app store
It might sound silly, but yesterday I used Argentina VPN to make purchases in Fortnite, made 6-7 purchases in total which resulted in my android device getting banned from spending anymore money on that app, changing game/samsung accounts doesn't fix it, so it's for sure device related issue. I live quite a distance from Argentina, and my phone was meant for my country's market - Poland
Is there an actual way of bypassing this ban?
I've talked to one guy on a gaming forum, who got banned like that as well, he told me that he tried spoofing his IMEI, Device ID and serial number via Xposed to no avail
Which makes me wonder why isn't it enough to bypass it? Looks like they can still tell the real values so what's the point of spoofing? or perhaps there is something else that this dude missed?

The block is not device related, it's certainly account related and moderated in the game servers.
I actually don't think this question is allowed on XDA. I doubt XDA will approve of discussing how to bypass a ban, the developer of the app has it setup that way for a reason, XDA probably doesn't want any discussion of ways to undermine a developers work.
