How to gain root access to google ion rom?

I'm have the original ION phone with Ion Rom...
But from what i search from wiki to forum's here, mostly I see is reflashing the whole rom to get root access..
is it possible to get the root access on the rom I have now rather than reflashing it?
This is what I have right now in my phone:
HBoot-1.33.3004 (SAPP30000)
CPLD-10
RADIO-2.22.19.261
Yes this is possible.
1. Download a rooted recovery image (recovery.img) with nandroid support.
2. Switch your ion to fastboot mode.
3. Execute "Fastboot boot recovery.img" (this will not flash the recovery to your Ion, it will just load it).
4. perform a nandroid backup.
5. unpack the boot.img you find in the nandroid directory on your sdcard.
6. change the ro.secure property and repack the boot.img.
7. flash the rooted boot.img image to your ion.
So the instruction mention is the same as the one posted on wiki?

Many thanks!

No, it's not the same, with the instructions on the wiki your are overwriting your ROM with a different one... so you basically undo the ion rom.
Im very new to this, do you mind bring me throught the how process?
I have just went ahead to try that process..(as i thought its just bascially rooting the magic with the recovery rom and ended up on a boot loop)

Thank you Amon_RA!
Hello,
Just got a google ion. Originally followed the instructions in the link above about rooting an htc magic... which allowed me to put haykuro's rootme on. Everything works fine now, I have root (I was able to add new fonts as su). However I do not have a superuser app--- and I am a bit confused about who I receive updates from now. I have read that jf1.5 does not work on this phone.
I did not need to unpack any .img files.
I have a recovery where I can flash new update.zip files, do nandroid backups, etc.
Can anyone fill me in on where I can get a superuser app, who should I receive updated update.zip fles from, etc?
The ion rom that is floating around installs but wifi doesn't work, so I'm back at rootme.zip.

no you don't
I followed the wiki and had ROOT and Hard SPL but the rom was unchanged
When you had root, were you able to install the superuser app or a rom with it?

haven't tried yet
root works fine when plugged into a PC
I have the original Ion as well. The way I rooted my phone was by followed an excellent written tutorial http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2w_Iyv7wctA (in the upper right hand corner click more details. Then after step step 17 or so continue from the guide on http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Magic_Rooting
Great for noobs like me, wouldn'nt have known the commands to put into prompt up to that point and from other guides was not clear if I was supposed to input from phone terminal or prompt on PC but the combination of these two guides helped me get my phone rooted and now I have been trying out the french ROMS 1.8/1.9 and Nok2's V4 full, which is great.

Where could I get an image as mentioned here?
Second question: Once rooted, will my phone auto-update the system anymore?

Mojo, if the root process is done by unpacking and repacking the boot.img you won't alter the original rom so all the features will be untouched.
I've complete the root process on my original ION, if you need any help... post in this threath...
The manual total-geek method on N1?
Yes, I am aware of superboot. downloaded it. Looked at it, and noticed it was an image.
I am one of the weird ones that would rather do this process with the least disruption of the stock bits as possible, or at least know exactly what this image modifies. And while I could be totally blind, I didn't see this listed in my Googling.
I tried the procedure for the ION in this thread and it appears that the Nexus One does something different (maybe an extra checksum check??). Note: I also do have an ION and this procedure worked - so it appears that the procedure is known.
Any further information either about how to modify the appropriate images manually or a description of what the superboot image actually plays with?
Thanks!
I too have a ION and if 2.1 doesn't hit soon I want to root. I am confused. Can someone just post the instructions in order with out having to got a billion links to get the next step.

You will find these files useful if you have used the Android Open-Source Project, flashed custom builds on your device, and wish to return that device to its factory state.
In order to use these files, you need to have the fastboot tool in your PATH. That tool is compiled as part of every configuration of the Android Open-Source Project and is the tool used to flash custom builds on your device. On GNU/Linux systems, this also implies that you have configured USB access as mentioned in the machine setup instructions.
Your device needs to be in fastboot mode, with the bootloader unlocked. The relevant key combinations and commands are documented on the page about building for devices.
You need to uncompress each download before use, which creates a new directory for that exact download. That directory contains a ./flash-all.sh script, which handles the various operations, installs the necessary bootloader, baseband firmware(s), and operating system. Note that this operation deletes all user data by default.
After restoring a factory image, it is recommended that you lock the bootloader, for security reasons.

So, more or less
Have fastboot working
Boot in fastboot mode
Make sure you untar every file from the link above.
wipe data
fastboot -w update image-sojuk-JRO03E.zip

no os installed TWRP

Hey guys, so I accidentally wiped my whole phone, including the SD card, so I'm stuck at the recovery TWRP screen.
What should I do?
Download a rom, place it in your sd, flash it and enjoy the proper method of flashing can be found in the q&a thread.
If you're unlock/s-on don't forget to flash the boot.img in fastboot.
If your phone is mddi panel don't use jb rom.

My phone isn't rooted, butcan I somehow restore it to a stock rom?
U can return to stock. Try searching in the index thread in dev section or google key words like s-on/ruu/stock rom.
But did u check out the guide I posted? u've alrd got step 2 and 3. I assume u alrd have adb command set up-ed, if not check step 1. Step 4 onwards describe the "how to" flash custom roms.

Confused - A checklist.

So, this is my first time flashing an Android device. I've been reading and searching for two days and I think I have most things in order. Let me check this is what I need to do and in the correct order to flash Cyanogenomod Marshmallow.
Unlock bootloader. (Haven't found a guide for this yet)
Flash latest TWRP (I'm guessing this will be done with Odin?)
Then I can proceed to copy my images and wipe/install them as per the guide.
This place is extremely confusing. There are guides left and right for everything under the sun and figuring out which I'm supposed to be using is a minefield. I just wanted to check I'm on the right path here as my head is getting a little cabbaged with it all.
Thanks!

You mean gt-p3100?
You won't need to unlock the bootloader, just update the bootloader or the firmware to Jellybean
choose any one of the above method.
2. Download respective recovery from android andi webpage espresso3g means files meant for GT-P3100 device model.
3. take Nandroid Backup from the custom recovery.
4. follow the Respective Rom Instructions mentioned

You're a star pal. I'm already on Jellybean so I assume I can skip that part? And that recovery is exactly the file I downloaded earlier, so it's good to know I was on the right track! I'm struggling for how I actually install the recovery though?
Your assistance has been very appreciated mate.

Detailed step by step instructions here that should be the same way, just put the newer recovery .md5 file :good:
this is one of my very detailed guide that has all my knowledge compiled about our device that you may find useful. it's a bit lengthy but should be a good read.
Absolutely throwing me here. Installing the latest TWRP doesn't seen to alter anything at all. Everything goes through fine. The only thing I can wonder is in the guide you linked it says "Make sure Re-Partition & F. Reset Time are unchecked" but the images with the guide always have F.Reset ticket. Should it be ticked?
I am right in thinking TWRP should show a new custom menu when I boot to recovery aren't I?
Your guide is an excellent reference point btw. This is great for me starting out, thank you.

[GUIDE]Unlock Realme 3 Pro Bootloader , Twrp and Root

have u try flash magisk with twrp ??is it work?
Relocking device with modified partitions can possibly brick your device, please do not post guides without trying it on your device first.

@sayan8, please be careful as to what you are posting in your help thread / guide...
1. You have almost copied the unlock /relock steps from the realme website...https://c.realme.com/in/post-details/1134295513231785984 without giving credit to the website link.
2. Mistake as pointed out above by @acervenky.
3. You have linked the twrp to the realme3pro twrp thread where NOBODY has been able to boot up his phone / boot into twrp after flashing the twrp posted there.. Under these circumstances, why would you advise anyone else (probably a noob) ti brick his phone by doing what you posted?
A better method would be to add the caveats (warnings) for flashing twrp (nobody has successfully done it, yet) or the relock method.
Regards.

Hey ,
1. I have given proper credits to everyone. See at the bottom.
2. I know that and should have mentioned the warning there.
3. I know that , I thought anyone who's familiar with xda would've known that custom partition can brick your device while relocking. Yeah you are right , should have tried this on a device first before posting the guide .
I'm removing this guide and request the mods to delete this thread.
No need for such an extreme step. Keep it as work in progress...after all you are the OP of the thread....wait a while twrp, root, all will fall in place...
