Hi
I am having an issue with my UK based Samsung S22 Ultra. The GPS stops working on it, no map app can use GPS until I restart the phone and then it starts working again.
I found this thread on the samsung.com which seems to other users having the same issue.
S22 Ultra problems with GPS
No GPS signal, but my Note 9 had no problems!
eu.community.samsung.com
I've tried turning location services on and off and setting performance to maximum but still the same issue persists. Would be very grateful for any ideas
Thanks
Imran
Wouldn't be the first time, Was it the note10 there was a Issue when device went to 5G it would kill the GPS and i would not reconnect without a reboot.
Only a few experienced the issue, myself included. It took way more effort than what it was worth to log it with samsung and for them to admit there is a fault and they are looking to patch it in the next update.
Yes, remember hearing about the note 10. This seems slightly different
After a period of inactivity, and the GPS stops working. After a restart it works again.....Really disappointing.
I can confirm the same issue. Only assisted GPS works (i.e. when near wifi/bluetooth devices), but pure GPS sensors don't work until restart.
check permissions for GPS for trashy apps and block it all, allow for Gmaps or gps test app only. reboot and test again.
Same problem here...
From another forum (Haven't tried it myself)
Quick fix is to have installed the GPS Status & Toolbox app (the icon looks like an orange satellite antenna in a corner of a grey square) , once opened is not going to find any GPS signal...of course.
But if you open Menu (upper left corner, tap screen once to reveal it) then go to Manage A-GPS, it will pop a window A-GPS XTRA Data with 3 options RESET, CANCEL and DOWNLOAD. Press RESET and in a couple of seconds the GPS signal is back without the need to restart your phone.

Doesn't work for me.
Same here. Uk exynos. Gps only is all over the place. Poor fixing. Google maps location sits grey for an eternity. If I put WiFi on it jumps to my correct location but gps only is really bad
Really strange, which apps are you using that kill your GNSS?
My S22U Exynos gets some satellites even indoors (my Note 10 not) and with Orux, GPSTest and YGPS I can stop and use it several times and it keeps working again.
The accuracy is good, the only thing is the accuracy when logging with the display off (but this another topic from another thread).
Disable all power management... destroyer of worlds.
Try clearing the system cache.
Easy fixes if they work... many times they do.
I have the same problem, after a few hours the GPS signal stops working.
I tried using the GPS Test app and it can't find any satellite, Google Maps says "GPS search in progress" and it stays that way.
From recovery I tried to do a cache reset and an app repair but it didn't help.
If I restart the phone the GPS works perfectly, GPS Test app finds 30 satellites immediately, after a few hours it stops working again.
I remember reading about this on a Samsung Korean forum. Seems to be a known issue which I hope Samsung can fix with a software update. The first time it happened I got lost and ended up going 20 miles out of my route because the damned thing gave me the impression that it was working after initially saying "GPS signal lost" and I just carried on. A reboot fixed it but I don't know if/when it will happen again.
I have received a second March update since then so fingers crossed that Samsung have fixed the issue.

So it is not about starting different location apps several times? Is it just a question of time and suddenly it stops working?

That's right, after a few hours the GPS stops working and to make it work again you have to restart the phone.

It's likely either power management, an incorrect setting or a 3rd party app.
Try safe mode.
Look for what apk cache register when it happens, guilt by association to catch it.
My issue of location sitting grey in google maps. I found if I shut down maps and immediately reopened my location would turn blue straight away.
I have since uninstalled the maps update and now get blue location almost immediately every time I open maps.

Have you tried with programs like "GPS TEST" to see if it finds the satellites?
When the phone restarts the GPS works but after several hours the GPS stops working until the phone is restarted.
I have a 6 hour long drive coming up in a week. Is the best workaround for this issue for now to restart the phone every hour or so? I damn well don't want to get lost

man my gps is still off before and after update but it locks on quickly tho
I don't get it... my GPS seemed to work fine before the OTA... now I can't get a lock for the life of me - whether I'm outside or inside...
When I load up Maps, the Wifi or Cell location finds me fine... but when I try to get a GPS lock, forget about it. The map icon and GPS icon just keep blinking - forever. Correct me if I'm but with a GPS lock, those 2 icons will stop blinking.
Navigation takes nearly 15 mins to lock on... None of the suggested fixes have worked.. nor am I rooted so I can't go and change the gpsconfig file...
I'm in NYC so I'm assuming the buildings have an effect on getting the GPS lock...

Same here. Before the OTA my GPS was fine. Sure it might take 30-60 seconds to get a lock if I've had the GPS radio off for a while, but once it locked it worked great and would re-lock quickly in the future. Now, I keep dropping GPS signal while using it, and using the GPS Test app shows it's not getting a good signal or locking on to as many sats as it was before. Clearing the A-GPS data and downloading the list seems to help, a little, but it's temporary. (Stock, unrooted)
Try GPS Status and Toolbox from the Market.

I wouldn't call it worthless - it did fix a few things like video cam sound and 3G<=>4G transitions, but there are certainly some lingering problems.

I've tried that about 20 times now... never got a GPS lock by using that app. I use to the app to reset it, then download the data... nothing. What else needs to be done while using that app?
Disabling VZW Location Services has helped my situation dramatically. I tried using GPS status tricks to no avail.
I did this yesterday and now I get GPS locks at roughly 3 seconds.
May not work for everyone but it's worth a shot.

That's all I did. If I open Google Maps, I'll lock in less than five seconds within 100-ish feet, and lock spot-on in another five-10 seconds.
(Currently running das BAMF 1.6 Debloat / 1.16.00.0402w_1 baseband (new radio) / Adryn 4.3a kernel.)
Before the OTA it was taking me 30-60 seconds to get a lock. Now it's not unusual for me to lock in 5-6 seconds.

Same here, just didn't notice the OTA turned VZW LS back on. Turning that off again flat out cured all of my lock timing issues. It's insanely different now, back to what I was used to before the OTA.
My GS3 is currently running Bean's Custom Rom build 14; was briefly running Jellywiz RLS8 (nice but too buggy for me) and prior to that was stock/rooted/unlocked with the toggle mods and nothing else. I had updated the radio as the new ones came available. Anyhow, some time ago when I was still on the stock Rom, I could no longer get a GPS lock. Prior to that it had worked just fine. So I flashed crypted's "fix" from this thread (tried both the GS3 specific and generic Google builds) and I was able to almost instantaneously get a "lock," which to me meant the GPS icon in the notification bar went to solid.
HOWEVER, I was now showing my location as being outside of Raleigh, NC - I live in Atlanta, GA. With standalone and Google/VZW gps turned on I would get a relatively accurate location (~30 meters) in Maps but a completely wrong location in Foursquare and my weather apps. So I followed Crypted's directions. I tried wiping cache/dalvik, tried modifying RIL in build.prop from 2 to 1, finally tried the solution where I unchecked all three options in Location settings, powered off, battery pull for 30 secs, reboot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, reflash his zip file, boot up, enable ONLY standalone GPS and go to nav, put in a destinaton and let it sit outside for 10 mins. After that it FINALLY gave me an accurate standalone GPS location. Problem is, when I rebooted my phone sometime later in the day, the GPS went back to North Carolina and was essentially broken again. Only after repeating the same process from before did I get it to work again, and even at that it takes a good 10 mins for standalone GPS to update my position when change my location. So what the heck is going on here? Clearly GPS is working on the hardware side, if ever so slowly. Anybody have any suggestions? My next step is to Odin all the way back to stock and see if that fixes it, but I'd really prefer not to have to go through all that trouble. Thanks for any suggestions.
Hey anyone with ideas on this? I know the OP was long but the short version is that after every reboot my standalone gps location reverts back to raleigh, north carolina, a place far from me that my phone has never been. Then it takes about 10 minutes of sitting outside w/ navigation on for the phone to get back to an accurate GPS location. I ran GPS Status during that time and noticed the phone is not locking onto any satellites during that time, up until it finally repositions itself accurately.
You can try this one. Works for some that can get lock but get erroneous locations.

The fix didn't work for me. We have (4) GS3's in my family and mine is the only one that doesn't get a lock in seconds, even indoors. I finally bit the bullet and am exchanging it...
I posted this first in the Android forums, but on second thought I think there is more brain power over here...been a long time lurker here, first time posting.
Been running this phone now for almost a week. Not rooted(anymore). Was rooted, until this problem popped up. Wanted to eliminate that as a problem, used the instructions here to flash original OEM image back. That all worked fine. In both cases, I then loaded all the apps onto this phone that I ran on my 1st generation RAZR. After about 12 hours of uptime, something seems to be causing interruptions to make GPS to go offline/online. I can see it in GPS test, where the GPS goes from green to yellow, and back to green again, on a continuous basis about every 10-20 seconds. Doesnt get a lock long enough for other GPS apps to use GPS. Other indicators is the GPS indicator in notification area appears and disappears.
I have since deinstalled almost all apps that claim to use GPS in the permissions list, or disable location usage in those I didnt deinstall. I think one of the apps I run is causing problems. I hate guessing and trial and error. If I reboot the phone, it will be good again for awhile. Is there some kind of log I can view to get an idea of what is interfering with GPS?
I saw another post in this section where another person was asking about being able to tell what was using GPS, when seeing the GPS icon go on/off in the notification area when nothing is apparently using it (in the foreground).
Very Frustrating.
alright, so i bought the nexus 5 month or so ago.
the issue i'm having:
i go in maps. say i'm rather close over berlin. i enter "Munich" in the seach bar. the "flyover" starts. however it doesnt finish over munich, it stops halfway through.
on my device its reproducable. no matter what destination i enter, the flyover just stops somewhere around halfway through, always at the very same spot. it i then go back to the search bar and tap on the "go" button again, the flyover continues, but still doesnt end. it takes me 3 times tapping on the "go"/"search" button until munich is visible. however it is still not centered. even after 5 further clicks its still not completely zoomed in.
this really bugs me. i dont use maps very often, but when i do i have to see this crap.
not quite sure if related, but i'm playing family guy lately. whenever you order a character to do something, the camera usually locks on the character while he walks to wherever he has to go. on my device, the camera just stops following him after a few seconds. seems the same/similar issue than whats going on in maps.
any idea what it could be? i really dont want to root and install a custom rom on the nexus 5 until google supports it.
i already cleared the cache, cleared the data and uninstalled all updates. in every version in every configuration this bug persists.

First step I would try is rebooting your phone into Safe mode. If the problem persists then you can eliminate 3rd party apps from the equation. If it's fixed then you can assume one of your apps is causing the issue.

Have you tried different Locations settings? Does the same thing happen during High Performance, Battery Saver, and Device Only?
Only other thing I can think to try is resetting the phone to factory default.

I'm wondering if anybody else is having similar problems.
Upgraded to the T-Mobile Nougat 7.0 OTA update. After that, I'm having constant "GPS signal not found" errors in Pokemon Go and my weather widget (1Weather) is having problems finding my location to update. Restarts don't do anything and this problem only happens periodically. Sometimes the apps work! They worked perfectly fine in Marshmallow.
Other GPS apps like Google Maps and GPS Status are working fine; pinpoints my location to within 20 feet. I've tried clearing and re-downloading AGPS data, un/re-installing the malfunctioning apps, clearing cache, data, revoking all permissions to re-enable them. None of that works.
go to Setting > Apps > select app you want > Permissions > disable GPS Permission
and reopen the app and check if it crashes or asking for permission again.
try this solution with restart and let me know if problem remains
Good Luck

It asks for permission. I grant it. I get, "GPS signal not found".
Update: Sometimes a toast popup comes up that says Google Play Services has stopped responding (crashed). When this crashes, it seems to fix the GPS issues. So I guess now I just have to wait for a proper update for Nougat and the S7...
I have this same issue (same setup as well). I haven't opened my weather app yet (rather just look at the sky ), but I do have constant issues with Pokemon GO. It will just sit there endlessly trying to get the GPS signal, but it doesn't have issues if I am moving.
I have found multiple reddit threads and Samsung support threads on the GPS issue with no luck.

I have been reading up on all of them today, as I normally have zero issues while sitting at my desk. I have toggled many options including optimize battery usage, location itself, clear cache, downloading GPS status and toolbox, and rebooting.
Right now the changes I have made from default are turn off the new app power saving monitoring (settings>battery>3 dots>advanced settings>disable app power monitor), turned of wifi scanning and bluetooth scanning.
The root of my problem was attempting to use the pokemon go plus. It allows the app to use the location of the device in the background while the screen is off and the app is not in the foreground. It was not lighting up every 5 minutes for the pokestop like it normally does. Going to maps, I discovered my location was way off. After opening the app, it would correct itself after a few seconds, but other times it would not.
This is also affecting smart lock (unlock) which allows you to choose locations where your phone does not require a password or fingerprint to unlock. It had always been flaky, but lately actually worked fairly well.
GPS issues is far from the only issue. I see monthly updates coming to us for a while (hopefully carriers will be right behind)
turning off battery optimization for locationservices seems to have made a difference. Smart lock is now working consistently and I am no longer drifting in my app. I also rebooted right before making this change, so that could have an effect too. I am going to leave it like this for a couple days to see if it helps. This makes sense, as the doze feature in nougat got reworked.
If you go to the Location settings, you'll notice that the "Locating Method" will randomly change between High Performance, Battery Saving, and Device Only. Pokemon Go is not compatible with Battery Saving, so if you get that error message when you know your GPS is enabled, go to Location settings and switch the Locating Method to either High Performance or Device Only. (Quickest way to do that is to press & hold on the GPS icon in the notification shade, which'll take you directly to the setting you need to toggle.)
The problem I'm having is getting that setting to stick. It seems to randomly change its Locating Method throughout the day, and I can't figure out how to force a static setting.
Here's what I've figured out, works 100% of the time:
1. Go to your device administrators and disable Android Device Manager (ADM).
2. Force Close Google Play Services.
3. Re-enable ADM.
4. GPS works now.
This thread is old, but the annoying problem persists.
I have this damn "GPS Signal not found" in Pokemon Go, too since i updated to Android 7.0.
Outside the GPS works fine and a have no problems. Inside buildings i have trouble with this damn bug since Android 7.0.
Sometimes it workes, sometimes not. If the phone is laying flat on the desk, the error comes up. Then i take the phone up and shake it a little bit, then the error goes away. After laying the phone back, the error comes up again.
Stopping google play services, clearing and updating the AGPS data and reassigning the permissions to the app didnt work.
Is there possibly a new useless battery saving feature in Android 7.0 thats checks for the accelometer and stops the gps service if there is no motion ?
I disabled the battery saving feature completly in the settings.
Has someone got successful rid of this damn error ? Or do i need to flash Android 6.0.1 for better gameplay ?
Any updates on this issue?
There seems to be lots of problems with GPS on these devices, and also on devices with similar chipsets (looking at you, MSM8996) all over the Internet.
Zero solutions so far :-/
I am suffering something similar.
I have tried Sygic, Here maps, Google maps and Waze.
Basically GPS location is turning on-off every few seconds (not check mark, But signal is turning on off)
For a while GPS finds location, guides me, Then arrow just stops. After few seconds It finds location again (I will have moved few 100 meters further by then, So display suddenly jerks to new location).
Very annoying.
I am running lineage OS 14.1 (Android 7.1) on Zenfone selfie ZD551KL.
Have already tried various builds of Lineage along with full format.
