My Optimus 3D has suddenly developed some serious problems and I have no idea what is going on.
First indication was Power Off refused to work, it would blank the screen but the backlight and capacitive button light would remain on forever. So I have had to force off by holding the power button.
After doing this a few times its now taking AGES to finish bootup and most of the widgets are working sporadically. One minute they will be working, the next they won't and might respond to a touch half an hour later. Yet, a few of them still work fine. I have tested using LG Home as well as Launcher Pro, the same problem occurs on both.
Worst problem of all though is typing has stopped working. First time it did it I simply rebooted and it worked again, but its stopped functioning again and rebooting every day is unacceptable when it was fine before.
Basically any text input form I press, the keyboard pops up and I start typing, but the text doesn't go into the text input field. This is with any keyboard selected.
This is really frustrating as prior to these problems I was really loving this phone and hardly ever had to reboot it.
It seems it all started after something caused the phone to reboot itself in the night (the bootup jingle woke me but I was too tired to check) and then I think it locked up during the reboot as battery monitor widget shows no log entries after the reboot, just the battery suddenly at 100% again as I charged it before powering it back up the next day.
I would prefer to know how to fix it in case it happens again but if I am forced to restore to factory settings, any advise for what and how to backup what is on there so I have minimal work to get it back to this state (hopefully without the glitches)?
I have had both internal and external SD mounted over Mass Storage and done an error check from Windows on them which found no errors, as I suspected it was corruption on internal SD but clearly not.
The weird thing is, other than the above the phone works fine - but its fairly useless when I can't type on it and I am concerned the widgets hanging is degrading the battery life.
Flash a clean stock rom and see if it fixes it

I actually figured out what is wrong and its bizarre. It was my router!
Basically I upgraded DD-WRT to the latest version (which has since been taken offline so obviously buggy) and it caused all the above symptoms. The instant I disconnected from WiFi all events which were meant to happen suddenly happened all at the same time, then everything was back to normal. Connect to WiFi and it hangs again.
I have no idea how a bug on my router can cause such a wide variety of problems but there you go. Downgraded the router back to the previous firmware and all is well again.
I briefly had the "no text input" error happening after i removed some bloatware with root explorer. It was really starting to irritate me but when i turned the phone on it's side it worked again and has never stuffed up since!
Just thought I'd share my experience.

Well unfortunately I was wrong, problem started again today and I even tested at a friends house. Basically, when connected to WiFi my phone goes AWOL with widgets hanging and text input randomly stopping working.
Earlier to search marketplace I had to disconnect from WiFi, type the search string, reconnect, purchase, disconnect (it refused to download) and use HSDPA instead. This is really frustrating as I'm about to get 40Mbit broadband which is going to suck being forced to use T-Slowbiles pathetic 1Mbit HSDPA to download instead. Perhaps not the end of the world, but its really really weird.
I have been having trouble with my i727 over the past few weeks. It has shown 3 different problems which are really starting to bug me. The three problems are not related but I have condensed them into one thread. Please pardon me as I am pretty noobish with the software end of things.
1. Glitchy when charging. Any time I plug in a charger the screen and softkeys freeze up. I have to hold the power button for a while to get it to unlock. When it is not frozen. The screen is messed up. Sometimes I tap with one finger or slide to unlock and it zooms as if in multitouch. One time I tried to dial a 3 in a phone number and it dialed 374 just randomly on its own. I don't know if the charger is messing something up in this. Note: This started happening after I rooted for the first time but has been consistent through the many roms I have had. I'm pretty sure its not skyics. Do I need to call ATT for this
2. Also my GPS has been taking a really long time to fix if not at all. I normally use it in maps but if I open a simple gps coordinates read out app. Sometimes the GPS fails to start. I don't know if it is a skyics issue or if I have a hardware issue. Any input would be helpful
3. Lastly, its not really a big deal and is probably a simple fix but I have tried everything. I use dolphin browser and everytime I search google it thinks I am in canada and no matter how many times a change it. It always reverts to canada.
If you have experienced these issues or if you know why they are being caused please let me know because I don't know what they could be. My phone (should) still be under warranty (if you ignore the root) so I may want to call ATT especially if its a hardware prblem

It sounds like a bad flash and you may want to wipe and reflash. As for the GPS I am on Sky ICS 6B and the GPS is glitchy frequently. For example today I wanted to look up directions to a restaurant down the street and the GPS thought I was 2,000 miles away in Vegas (I wish lol). I tryed it again tonight and the gps is working. I don't know how to fix the gps problem and we may just have to wait for updates in the rom, but as for the other systems it sounds like a bad flash as I described before. Anyone else think this?

First if you are on a Custom Rom, try updating it or reinstall the current rom. Delete Caches, and try again
for GPS, Maybe try another GPS app such as my favorite CoPilot
And for browsers I would switch to another browser, I am currently test three at the moment, Chrome, Puffin, and Opera. I must say Puffin is simple and fast, while I use opera on my Desktop so I would prefer Opera. Try it out might just be the browser.
Could be just settings in the browser that is set to Canada English Language settings.
Well I hope I helped some what. :cyclops:

I've had the exact same problem with the GPS on Sky ICS 6B, and I thought it was just me because no one has listed it as a known issue! I guess it's time to try a different ROM.
As far as the glitches while charging - are you using the supplied Samsung charger that came with the phone? This phone is highly sensitive to ANY other charger not designed specifically for the i727.

I'm pretty sure the Canada problem has to do with Sky ICS as well, because my phone seems to do the same thing!

I find the opposite in my experience. When using my Samsung charger (usually at weird angles though because charge & use while in bed) it disconnects rather often , while my Atrix 2 charger stays connected without issue. As I said though it may just be the obnoxious angles the cord gets put in. As for the GPS I was also surprised to see little to no complaints about issues with it.

1. There's a few posts over in the ICS threads that talk about charging issues. Do a search for those (stock charger, etc) and see if any of the symptoms match yours.
Frankly, I think you have a bad flash, as someone else mentioned. IMO its best that you backup your pics, videos, music, etc, then wipe both your internal and external SD cards, then load ICS on your ext SD and start over completely from the beginning. No restoring backups from TB, either. Take the extra time and reload everything from the app store and set them up manually.
Case in point, Seanscreamz mentioned in the 4.0.4 thread that he accidentally wiped his emmc (internal SD) and after reload it fixed some glitchy weirdness.
2 & 3 are related. Your browser is using your map data, and so does your GPS if you have that turned on in settings. Fix one, you fix the other. I had the GPS issue in SkyICS as well. Go into the maps app, clear data and clear cache. Immediately reboot the phone into recovery, wipe dalvik and cache from there. Reboot. Since the phone has to rebuild the davlik cache, it takes awhile to come back up.
That fixed my issue (even if some steps were unnecessary, it can't hurt).
If you do flatten and reload the phone, don't forget to install Busybox and run Fix Permissions after you install the update.
Good luck!
My GS3 is currently running Bean's Custom Rom build 14; was briefly running Jellywiz RLS8 (nice but too buggy for me) and prior to that was stock/rooted/unlocked with the toggle mods and nothing else. I had updated the radio as the new ones came available. Anyhow, some time ago when I was still on the stock Rom, I could no longer get a GPS lock. Prior to that it had worked just fine. So I flashed crypted's "fix" from this thread (tried both the GS3 specific and generic Google builds) and I was able to almost instantaneously get a "lock," which to me meant the GPS icon in the notification bar went to solid.
HOWEVER, I was now showing my location as being outside of Raleigh, NC - I live in Atlanta, GA. With standalone and Google/VZW gps turned on I would get a relatively accurate location (~30 meters) in Maps but a completely wrong location in Foursquare and my weather apps. So I followed Crypted's directions. I tried wiping cache/dalvik, tried modifying RIL in build.prop from 2 to 1, finally tried the solution where I unchecked all three options in Location settings, powered off, battery pull for 30 secs, reboot to recovery, wipe cache and dalvik, reflash his zip file, boot up, enable ONLY standalone GPS and go to nav, put in a destinaton and let it sit outside for 10 mins. After that it FINALLY gave me an accurate standalone GPS location. Problem is, when I rebooted my phone sometime later in the day, the GPS went back to North Carolina and was essentially broken again. Only after repeating the same process from before did I get it to work again, and even at that it takes a good 10 mins for standalone GPS to update my position when change my location. So what the heck is going on here? Clearly GPS is working on the hardware side, if ever so slowly. Anybody have any suggestions? My next step is to Odin all the way back to stock and see if that fixes it, but I'd really prefer not to have to go through all that trouble. Thanks for any suggestions.
Hey anyone with ideas on this? I know the OP was long but the short version is that after every reboot my standalone gps location reverts back to raleigh, north carolina, a place far from me that my phone has never been. Then it takes about 10 minutes of sitting outside w/ navigation on for the phone to get back to an accurate GPS location. I ran GPS Status during that time and noticed the phone is not locking onto any satellites during that time, up until it finally repositions itself accurately.
You can try this one. Works for some that can get lock but get erroneous locations.

Thanks, will give it a shot. Hope the issue is addressed in the next ota.

The fix didn't work for me. We have (4) GS3's in my family and mine is the only one that doesn't get a lock in seconds, even indoors. I finally bit the bullet and am exchanging it...
All,
First time poster, frequent visitor of XDA Forums. I've come across an odd issue that I don't know how to solve and I'm hoping some of you smarter than me folks can get me squared away.
I have a Galaxy S8+ from AT&T running Android 7.0 and Samsung Experience 8.1.
Problem:
I've recently noticed a delay or completely non-updating interface on my phone. It updates on occasion, but I can't determine what triggers an update. For example, I will pick up my phone from the desk and when I press the power button it shows the accurate time. When I unlock the device, the sense flip clock I use on the main home screen shows an earlier time (could be 30 minutes... could be a few hours). I don't believe it's just the Sense app because I noticed this issue where I checked a facebook messenger app that came and and when I closed the app, it still showed I had 1 notification. I went back in thinking I had another new message, but I didn't. So it was still hanging on to the notification. It happened a couple times with a text message as well. Most importantly, my calendar doesn't alert me prior to an appointment either, even though it's showing in my calendar and an alert is active. If I save an event, and exit, I can normally see the event appear on the on widget immediately as well... but that hasn't been happening. I have to press the widget to open it and confirm it is there (which it always is). Eventually it refreshes and shows up. But that delay is likely the reason why I'm not getting my alerts.
All of this did seem to happen after a recent update Samsung/AT&T pushed out but I don't know for sure. I tried clearing the cache from the boot menu but it doesn't seem there is wide success with that.
And perhaps I'm just not a good enough user, but everything isn't all backed up in the cloud so doing the factory reset to me is always a fairly large task as I have many things to manually transfer out and then back in. Not sure if there are great tools that help with this on a stock phone.
BUMP
try disabling battery optimization for those apps.
It seems that you have several bugs and if they all start happening after you have installed the latest update, then expect a patch coming soon.

I have actually done that. Found very limited success. I'm also finding very few results on this topic. Surely it's not just me though.
And I'm dreading the idea of a hard reset as I have many things on my phones, not all of which is sync'd to the cloud so it's a task to back things up appropriate. Specifically regarding "encrypted" apps like my password keeper app etc.
It would be great if there was a software application that allowed you to backup whatever is necessary to not lose data, then wipe the phone and instead of just simply restoring the full phone (which is likely to create the same problem one had before the hard reset), you could simply dump back in app data as needed. It would also help diagnose if the problem lies in a specific app's data.
High level overview of issues...
I have the Ring Doorbell app. I get notifications after "live". Could be 5 minutes, could be 1 hour... or possibly not at all. I have the app setup on my wife's iPhone and she gets them immediately. If I restart the phone, I will get notified right away (it's like it runs the app again and then I get the notification). Keep in mind, this is AFTER i disabled the battery optimization feature for the Ring app.
I also notice it occasionally with texting. I won't have any text notification in the notification panel, nor will my messaging icon have a little red circle indicating a message is there. But if I open the app, a specification conversation will have a red circle indicating a new text is unread.
All of this is leading me to believe the Samsung UI itself is not updating and therefore notifications that actually have arrived (from whatever app), are not displaying because of the UI and not because of their own delay.
Because of this concern I have turned off battery optimization for "System UI", "Themes", and "TouchWiz Home". I have not seen any change however.
[Solved]
I was able to determine by various other threads around the web (thought for sure I'd find it here, but I didn't) that the culprit might be the Google app. Supposedly it was fixed in some prior release, but it's not on my Galaxy S8+ w/ AT&T.
Once I disabled the Google app all the odd issues with notifications and clock interfaces and app icons not updating went away. The downside to disabling it is that I lose the Google Assistant functionality which stinks but otherwise there is no impact to using the phone. I re-enabled it at a later date and it worked fine for a few days and then started acting up again. Once I disabled it, the problems all disappeared. Clearly Google app is to blame.
Hi
I am having an issue with my UK based Samsung S22 Ultra. The GPS stops working on it, no map app can use GPS until I restart the phone and then it starts working again.
I found this thread on the samsung.com which seems to other users having the same issue.
S22 Ultra problems with GPS
No GPS signal, but my Note 9 had no problems!
eu.community.samsung.com
I've tried turning location services on and off and setting performance to maximum but still the same issue persists. Would be very grateful for any ideas
Thanks
Imran
Wouldn't be the first time, Was it the note10 there was a Issue when device went to 5G it would kill the GPS and i would not reconnect without a reboot.
Only a few experienced the issue, myself included. It took way more effort than what it was worth to log it with samsung and for them to admit there is a fault and they are looking to patch it in the next update.
Yes, remember hearing about the note 10. This seems slightly different
After a period of inactivity, and the GPS stops working. After a restart it works again.....Really disappointing.
I can confirm the same issue. Only assisted GPS works (i.e. when near wifi/bluetooth devices), but pure GPS sensors don't work until restart.
check permissions for GPS for trashy apps and block it all, allow for Gmaps or gps test app only. reboot and test again.
Same problem here...
From another forum (Haven't tried it myself)
Quick fix is to have installed the GPS Status & Toolbox app (the icon looks like an orange satellite antenna in a corner of a grey square) , once opened is not going to find any GPS signal...of course.
But if you open Menu (upper left corner, tap screen once to reveal it) then go to Manage A-GPS, it will pop a window A-GPS XTRA Data with 3 options RESET, CANCEL and DOWNLOAD. Press RESET and in a couple of seconds the GPS signal is back without the need to restart your phone.

Doesn't work for me.
Same here. Uk exynos. Gps only is all over the place. Poor fixing. Google maps location sits grey for an eternity. If I put WiFi on it jumps to my correct location but gps only is really bad
Really strange, which apps are you using that kill your GNSS?
My S22U Exynos gets some satellites even indoors (my Note 10 not) and with Orux, GPSTest and YGPS I can stop and use it several times and it keeps working again.
The accuracy is good, the only thing is the accuracy when logging with the display off (but this another topic from another thread).
Disable all power management... destroyer of worlds.
Try clearing the system cache.
Easy fixes if they work... many times they do.
I have the same problem, after a few hours the GPS signal stops working.
I tried using the GPS Test app and it can't find any satellite, Google Maps says "GPS search in progress" and it stays that way.
From recovery I tried to do a cache reset and an app repair but it didn't help.
If I restart the phone the GPS works perfectly, GPS Test app finds 30 satellites immediately, after a few hours it stops working again.
I remember reading about this on a Samsung Korean forum. Seems to be a known issue which I hope Samsung can fix with a software update. The first time it happened I got lost and ended up going 20 miles out of my route because the damned thing gave me the impression that it was working after initially saying "GPS signal lost" and I just carried on. A reboot fixed it but I don't know if/when it will happen again.
I have received a second March update since then so fingers crossed that Samsung have fixed the issue.

So it is not about starting different location apps several times? Is it just a question of time and suddenly it stops working?

That's right, after a few hours the GPS stops working and to make it work again you have to restart the phone.

It's likely either power management, an incorrect setting or a 3rd party app.
Try safe mode.
Look for what apk cache register when it happens, guilt by association to catch it.
My issue of location sitting grey in google maps. I found if I shut down maps and immediately reopened my location would turn blue straight away.
I have since uninstalled the maps update and now get blue location almost immediately every time I open maps.

Have you tried with programs like "GPS TEST" to see if it finds the satellites?
When the phone restarts the GPS works but after several hours the GPS stops working until the phone is restarted.
I have a 6 hour long drive coming up in a week. Is the best workaround for this issue for now to restart the phone every hour or so? I damn well don't want to get lost
