I pulled a dumdum and tried to flash the 2016 model j3 TWRP on my j3, which ended up soft bricking the device with the "There was an error during the update" display, also didnt help I forgot to actually OEM Unlock (forgot to ran the fastboot command) so now im stuck in a DownloadMode only, and every time I try to flash something, it fails, "SW REV, CHECK FAIL (<BOOTLOADER, RECOVERY, SYSTEM, etc>) DEVICE: 12, BINARY: 4"
Any idea? Last time I had a simular issue I managed to somehow get ahold of the factory hardware test rom, flash that, THEN flash the stock rom and it fixed it on a completely different samsung device, (an E series)
UPDATE: Got it to boot loop, still locked out of recovery mode and the system

I have an S4 SGH-I337 I'm trying to fix for a friend. It's stuck in a boot loop, but I'm still able to get into "Recovery Mode" and "Download Mode". The phone is not "USB Debugging" enabled, and is bootloader locked ATT... I assume. Owner says its still stock and he didn't try to flash or unlock it in any way. I've installed Odin v.3.10.7 and tried to flash a stock ROM from Sammobile.com, but got the message : Failed (Auth). When I tried another ROM I found on a blog about fixing a soft-bricked s4, I was able to get a PASS on Odin. I rebooted into recovery and cleared cache/factory reset after it finished but still have a bootloop. I tried adding a PIT file to the process and still bootloop. Why doesn't the ROM from samobile.com work if it's a stock ROM? Are there any other files I can flash like a new bootloader or whatever, or just the two I tried? Is it possible the hardware is fried? I'm not ready to give up yet.
As the title already states my Galaxy S6 ( SM-G920F, 6.0.1, rooted) only boots in TWRP and I can't get out of that recovery boot loop. I already tried flashing the stock ROM but I get the SW REV CHECK FAIL DEVICE 4 BINARY 3 fail. Are there any ways to fix this, possibly without losing all my personal data(if not I'd like to know how anyways)?
I can access the download menu and I also tried wiping the Dalvik/ART Cache.
I tried this stock ROM: G920FXXU4DPIL, Switzerland(AUT)
Thanks for taking your time
EDIT: I haven't tried ADB since I'm not sure how to use it correctly and I don't want to screw up even further.
Try G920FXXU5DPLH
So I wiped all of my data with TWRP and went to boot the phone up so that it was as thought I factory reset it, but there's no OS installed and it boots to TWRP.
When I try to flash the stock rom (all 4 variants from Updato) Odin fails and I get an error on the phone saying "SW REV. CHECK FAIL. DEVICE: 3. BINARY: 2."
Any help for this, or is the phone just useless now?

I did the exact same thing and got the same problems with Odin. Best I can suggest is to try and flash a custom ROM through TWRP. That's what I did and I can use my device, though my ROM doesn't match my baseband and I can't turn on wi-fi, but I think that's just gonna be on my end.
Try looking at @Sands207 or @SonderTech XDA threads for custom ROMs and try and flash one of those. Be really careful to download and flash the correct ones.

you need the latest binary for your device. you cannot downgrade if the sw revision does not match up.
Hello! Today I wanted to install the dual speaker mod for s8 +. I installed the zip via twrp and it told me that the mod was succesfully installed. After I restarted the phone, I got a bootloop.i entered twrp to give it a factory reset and gave me a direct failure, and after i thought to give it a format data.I restarted the phone, and after i got a bootloop again and after about 5 minutes it will give itself a restart and i still get a bootloop. Normally after i use format data in twrp i usually wait around 2-3 minutes until my phone opens and goes into the setup to initiate my phone.I tried the stock rom for s8+ flashing in odin and it fails again.I've tried everything I know and I've searched on google and I have not found anything. One thing I get in download mode after I get fail in odin is: SW REV.CHECK FAIL (BOOTLOADER) DEVICE: 2, BINARY: 1.
Generally if odin is failing to flash the rom it is the wrong firmware you're trying to flash.
If you were running 8 and try installing 7 it will fail due to the bootloader being updated and it's impossible to downgrade after that.
Another reason is incorrect firmware for you phone.
My device has been bricked after attempting to root the device using Odin. (Samsung Galaxy S8+)
The device is stuck in a bootloop with the following accompanying error message in red on the boot screen:
"Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed"
Here is what happened:
I flashed TWRP using Prince Comsy Odin. (The only Odin that actually works on the s8+)
I then booted into the TWRP recovery.
I followed a set of instructions, clearing the Cash and wiping
I restarted once then booted back into TWRP using Vol-Up + Power + Bixby
I was preparing to install Magisk & "no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1" according to instructions to complete the root.
After installing "no-verity-opt-encrypt-5.1" with TWRP, the system rebooted and i was stuck in a boot loop.
I then got the error message in the bootloop "Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed"
Since then i have not been able to successfully re-flash TWRP.
I now cant enter TWRP recovery boot using Vol-Up + Power + Bixby anymore
The bootloop is about 2 seconds long and too short to enter TWRP recovery
I can enter download mode and thats all
I have gotten the EXACT official stock ROM for the galaxy s8+ in South Africa with the carrier, Vodacom. (XFV-G955FXXU4CRL4-20181228165540)
If i flash with any official Odin version, it either fails or doesnt do anything for hours...
If i flash any Official stock Rom using Prince Comsy Odin then i do get the whole process of flashing with stock firmware being successful with the result saying "PASS".
The phone then reboots and i am still stuck in the same loop saying "Only official released binaries are allowed to be flashed"
This is after countless times and hours and hours of reflashing successfully with Official stock rom
I still cant get back into TWRP to do any partitioning or formatting or anything
I really don't mind if i lose all of my data and format the phone but PLEASE can you help me get my phone to work again..."?
Do i need to wait 7 days for the official flash to work?
Is there a way to completely wipe my phone without requiring going into Recovery mode with TWRP? Since i cant get into that state anymore either because of the Error Knox block or because of the Loop being too fast.
Please, please, PLEASE....please help me get my phone to work again...
Sincerely,
I know that Odin 3.13.1 works on the s8+ G955F as I flashed the latest BTU stock yesterday so try that version. I had a similar problem with the G950F and after flashing the files I booted into recovery mode and did a data and cache wipe and the phone rebooted. Flashing a stock rom should have wiped TWRP from the phone.
Reflash your rom or a later one, don't forget to take the tick out of the auto reboot box in Odin, boot to recovery and wipe everything and hopefully you will be good to go. Rebooting on mine took around 35 mins or so when going back to stock.
