Yes, the remedy is: return it and get a different one because your chip is garbage. My phone stays cool.
Hope this helps.

No sadly not at the minute. The htc m9 is having the same issue but qualcomm have reportedly solved the issue which hopfully should be sorted in a software fix. I guess we just need to leep our fingers crossed for a software fix soon

Took my flex back because it was having issues with lag overheating and the screen died then came back on and wouldn't charge and battery died fast. The new phone is so fast it's hard to believe it's the same phone. It don't overheat and it last longer on battery. There's a bad batch of devices that are bad if i was you i would take it back . im glad i did because it's a night and day difference no lie i thought it was the software like people was saying it's not .
Just ordered mine and it would be shipped next week.
Did the 5.1.1 fix the thermal throttling and overheating?
with 5.1.1 the 810 don't go beyond 1.5GHz and still throttle but overheating is moderate, less hot than a Nexus 4 that have a S4 Pro but really hotter than a Honor 6 that have a HiSilicon Kirin SoC.

How much did killing the clock speed hurt performance though or was the performance worse with the higher clock and thermal issues?
Either I'd be little annoyed if i paid for a device with a certain chip and clock speed and an update reduced it.
They should be giving partial refunds or something along that line, you are not getting what you paid for.

There is already some discount on M9 and Flex2, I paid 400€, the price of a mid-range device and with reduced speed it perform like a good mid-range device with high-end finish.
You may have noticed that the rumored snapdragon 820 may have core named Kryo (like Cryo, icy cold in greek).

I disagree even with throttling gflex 2 is still a monster.Still high end.faster than m9. S6 is faster though. In price i agree . but even g4 s price is going down very fast.
The first leaked benchmarks of 820 show a very good single core performance and in multicore a little bit over exynos (s6).

That's why I'm considering the flex 2, I can get it for less then $500CAN. The only catch is its the H959 with only 2g ram.

My G Flex 2 ls996 still hits 2ghz... So not sure why that was posted. Also I have antutu benchmarks of 58000, which isn't bad. Lag has been cut down quite a bit. Every now an then there is a hiccup, but its seldom and only happens for about a second . Also haven noticed any heat issues either
This sucks if it really is so that no 2ghz after updating 5.1.1. Same if Ferrari only gives you 300hp from 600hp engine. This phone was not so good buy startin to realize it now. I downgrade it today but still 1,5ghz kernel is april dated. test antutu and serious drop, with 5.1.1 was 54000 and with 5.0.1 43500, not good.

I have frozen those apps but no thermal conf. I just use trickster mod and put row on... There was so many things better with 5.1.1 so hopefully we manage to get at least root for 5.1.1. Maybe I keep using this from now on, until and hopefully something happens. Im not satisfied my decision to buy this phone and now nexus 6 32gb 499e and with that phone we have root, unlocked bootloader, custom recovery, you name it. 6" display size maybe a bit too large to carry but nexus is nexus...
If you miss the Nexus series but don't want the huge screen, deal with the Flex 2 until October (3 months) of this year and the new Nexus 5 will be out, that's what I'm doing. My old Nexus 5 runs much smoother and has zero issues. Wish I hadn't given it to my daughter.

For sure. I am also disappointed with taking this phone and can't afford a new one. The design is great, I love the curve, but the one I have now is the third one I've gotten as I handed in 2 others already that gave issues. I think LG majorly screwed up on this phone and does not want to admit it. My phone works pretty well now, and it is a definite improvement on my S4 which I had previously, though. I wouldn't mind the Nexus 6 though, or the Xiaomei Note Pro (though the development support on this one would probably zero). If I can get some cash and maybe sell this phone, I can get the Nexus 6. I'm not sure I'd be able to, unfortunately, but we'll see.
guys the phone is really overheating so much and 5 mins into games it starts to lag, i have android 5.1.1 lollipop
Hey everyonge and a happy new year! I'm looking for an upgrade for my good old RAZRi and the G Flex 2 is available for a really good price in Germany where I live.
Is the overheating still an issue with the G Flex 2? Is it a problem on both official and custom ROMs?
Hi, Black friday deals have started popping up in my country and I found a pretty good deal on the Oneplus one so I thought i'd buy one, but I have a few questions before I do:
1. I mostly do browsing, whatsapp and some gaming on my phone so I wanted to know if the experience on the oneplus One is buttery smooth in the things I listed. I currently have an Iphone 4s and I can't stand the little stutters, long loadings before opening apps and a lot of lags in internet browsing and in Whatsapp. My main reason for buying a new phone is a better general experience, so its really important for me that the OPO will be smooth.
I just saw reviews on the new Oneplus X which has the same processor as the oneplus One, and some of the reviews said that the Snapdragon 801 is really showing its age, so it got me a bit worried.
2. I saw that some people had issues with the touch on the Oneplus One. Are those issues resolved? And If not, should I worry about it?
3. For the people who play Hearthstone, does this phone handle Hearthstone well? I know that even phones with good processors have some troubles with Hearthstone so I want to know if the Oneplus one handles it well.
Thanks in advance!
I got mine in May this year and so far it has been running smoothly. Gaming and everyday tasks like the ones you listed posed no problems. The touchscreen issues have also been fixed over the last months. For the best experience you should try out some custom roms.
I hope I could help you

Thank you, happy to hear its been working smoothly for you. I heard there's a really good custom rom called Sultan CM12, but honestly im afraid to get into roms and stuff like that because I almost bricked my nexus 4 messing with roms, and I don't really wanna take risks with this one.
There are plenty of guides and tutorials online which explain step by step how to flash custom roms /recoveries. Even with the stock pre-installed CM you will surely get a great user experience

The iPhone 4S is ancient and massively slower than pretty much any new phone on the market for several years now. Get hold of an iPhone 5/5S and you see the huge difference.
As for Snapdragon 801 "showing its age", that's still a pretty much wrong statement. Snapdragon 801 performs on about the same level with the Intel Atom processors seen in the mid-range Asus Zenfone 2, while delivering massively better battery life. The 801 is also better than Qualcomm's current 64-bit midrange Snapdragon 615. Tests show that Qualcomm's top of the line Snapdragon 808 and 810 do beat the 801 in a number of tests anywhere from a non-significant factor up to a factor of two. But those new 64-bit SoCs also have issues with heat and battery life, and so the phones using those often throttle the performance after a minute or two to prevent overheating.
In my experience, the Oneplus One is an excellent and very responsive phone. In USA, it's still the best $300 phone for those who don't demand the compatibility with the LTE's band 12. Oneplus X should have been a fine phone too considering the price of only $250, but Oneplus has really messed up the usability of LTE on the American version.

Hey guys, can anyone run some basic benchmarks like geekbench and antutut and post them here? Would like to see what the phone score with the carrier bloatware and stuff. If you do it's much appreciated but could you post your cpu too 820 or 8890? Thanks guys
You can ask for it here

Most results so far : Snapdragon 820 = Antutu 120 -122000
Exynos = Antutu 127 - 129000
On Geekbench Snapdragon slightly better on single core,Exynos slightly better on multi core. So only marginal differences in benchmark results.
In daily use both are blazing fast ...
Best yet for me... it is no exynos, but I will take it

My note 5 has exynos and I haven't been able to get more than 92,000 or so - honestly the benchmarks don't mean much - maybe they make us feel good a little - but in the end, the real test is how it performs in real life and honestly all of these Flagship phones are pretty amazing. I am really impressed with the S7 - and other than a little bloat, I don't find much to complain about with the new Touchwiz/Marshmallo in the S7 Edge. AND I love the expanded features for the Edge itself...really nice phone.
Only the second day on this phone. I like it!

Just a casual run on the snapdragon version. Didn't cool it or anything
Wow those are some great runs guys, the geekbench is a little lower than expected. On certain s6 roms I've gotten about 5100 on multicore, but for stock those seem pretty good.
Is the general consensus that both cpu's are as good as each other with both slightly out performing one in certain areas?
Can someone run gfxbench battery test on snapdragon and upload performance graphs here. Interesting to see gpu performance degradation.
Can someone please run a workbench from PCmark?
That is the most usefull benchmark at the moment
thanks in advance

Just keep in mind the s6 has 8 cores to throw at it. Thats why its multicore score holds up well. Once we consider the single core score and that the 820 only has 4 cores its rather impressive.
I ran pcmark and got about 6k last night. Just keep in mind that pcmark is much more representative of the governor's ability to react to loads etc, than a representation of raw power. If you ran it on performance governor for instance, the score would be much higher.

I just wish I understood the metric. It's not GHz because the GPUs only run around 650mhz. From what i can tell the adreno is much higher peak then suddenly drops for a second and jumps back up. Which seems weird if it's throttling. Normally it would go low and stay low, like the 8890 does in the graph. I'll have to compare to my s6 later. Test takes forever.....

Its not GHz, it's number of frames in one iteration of test. I suspect thermal driver in snapdragon variant is maybe broken, because It's weird what performance halfed every 2 minutes. In real games it would be noticeable.
Can't say I'm dissapionted with my 820 s7e. Great real world performance and benchmarks very well.
I'm the uk so I'll be getting the 8890, from what I can see from you guys both chips are good but I think the sd820 may have some thermal isssues again. Both score very well in real world performance. If your sd820 gets really hot at least you can dip it in some iced water now
Hello,
Im currently using a Samsung Galaxy S6 32gb and i love this phone and for me its a very good phone, it has everything i need, i have 9 pages of apps in the app drawer all my movie, games, pics, docs and songs and the phone never let me down but im a performance kinda guy and while i love the performance of the s6 after watching the unpacked 2016 i have decided to get the s7 but after doing so looking i found that the 8890 is more of a CPU SoC while the 820 is more of a GPU SoC so i wanna know i want to have the full S7 experience complete with the gear vr and vulkan api so which one should i get i know that the 820 is a 2+2 CPU with the GPU is doing about 550+ gflops while the 8890 is 4+4 and the GPU is doing about 250+ gflops so which one should i get and why and what are the pros and cons of each one
Thanks a lot and sorry for the long post
The only thing that matters is if you care about AOSP ROMs or not. If you do, Snapdragon is your only choice.
As said before I think there will not be a big difference in regards to the performance. The SD820 tends to be a little bit faster in single core applications, while the Exynos will perform better for multi core applications. Will you notice it? I doubt so.
The GPU in the SD820 is indeed faster, but potentially oversized, too (produces more heat => throttles more). So while benchmarks could be better, after some minutes the GPUs are (more or less) on the same high. Some people will agree, some will not
I think the only point that really matters is if you would like to get custom roms, mainly AOSP roms, at a certain time. With the SD820 your chances are a lot higher. Apart from that...

You're confusing benchmark scores with game performance. Despite the difference you list (which I suspect, from Exynos' perspective, is the worst result amongst many), I'll be amazed if you find a single game with a discernible performance increase on the Snapdragon. It's all about the heat and power efficiency, there could well be a difference between the two in that respect.

Wouldn't be accurate to say the exynos has a faster CPU and generally performs better in day to day tasks, while the adreno has a faster GPU which would do better with high end 3D gaming?

I will go for Xiaomi mi 9. Wide angle camera, Dual SIM, Amoled, My mother toung, Call recorder and great price. Only missing 3.5 aux but I will survive. BB Oneplus....
My list:
Mi9: Most likely better AOSP support, cheaper
S10E: better screen, 3,5 jack, smaller size
I'm also thinking about buying either the Mi9 or S10E. At the moment, I'm slightly leaning towards the Mi9 because of the price and also because I don't really like Samsung's software.
That being said, Samsung has improved radically over the past years and Xiaomi is not exactly delivering mint Android either.
As for the size: Would love to buy the Mi9 SE but it looks like it's not going to be available in Europe and that it will also lack the necessary 4G bands to make it work properly.

Would definitely go for the Mi9. Depending on region Samsung has decided to use their Exynos variant in comparison to Snapdragon 855.
We all know the Exynos is faster than the Snapdragon 855 but with regards to power efficiency, we are still unsure. Last years Galaxy S9 Exynos variant suffered from severe battery issues which ultimately resulted in me returning my S9 within the cooling off period.
The Mi 9 is very attractive with its Snapdragon 855 and scores well on gsmarena battery test even beating the p20 pro (4000mah) which I currently own and would not sell apart from sh** selfie camera being worst ever. Ultimately Samsungs decision to only ship Exynos variant phones within the UK is a shocking one.
We should be given the choice
Mi9 I've just received mine.
I was going to get the S10+ but when I seen this and the price tag my mind was made.
Screen is great, cameras front and back are brilliant, it's so fast and smooth it's unreal. Fingerprint scanner is very good it's so quick and accurate nothing like OnePlus 6t that was dreadful for me.
Only think this device doesn't have for me is dual speakers, IP rating, SD slot.
Buy Mi9 Only if you dont mind the lack of OIS....camera at night is a joke.i sell mine for that after just 24 hours!!!

Agreed, camera so far one of the aspects I'm slightly less pleased with, especially coming from the Pixel 2 xl. However, a Mi 8 gcam port works already and so does night sight, which even though its not meant for this device works pretty well. So I'm definitely gonna be patient and follow its development as great things await us I believe! Would be great if we can use the telephoto and wide angle cameras with the gcam port!
I have installed gcam in mi9 with night mode... quality better BUT NOT with low light.you need a tripod ..theres not optical image stabilization (hardware)

I'm not so sure about "Exynos" is faster than 855, of course maybe Samsung phones with Exynos feel faster than Snapdragon?

This years exynos has also failed in terms of battery life.
The snapdragon 855 is way more efficient than the exynos

Exynos is only better in singlecore (multicore is faster in 855) but exynos does that at the expense of a lot of heat and battery. Also the GPU in 855 is like 2 generations better than exynos.
yes, my s9+ exynos still does beat the mi9 in single core. but the s9+ gets beaten in gpu tests even by my older mix 2 NON S (snapdragon 835!!.. not 845!!) 855 gpu is a beast. Exynos s10 gpu is just slighty better than s9 exynos because they did improve the power per core.. but removed like 40% of the cores... (g72mp18 vs g76mp12)
and that single core perf. is irrelevant.. My mix2 with a good rom is AT LEAST as fast as the s9+ in app opening, web surfing etc.. believe I tested.
