Force install OS on Oculus Quest 2 without developer mode - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I've a set of Oculus Quest 2 with an unusual issue.
The headset turns on, I can see the Oculus logo and I can hear the greeting sound but after this nothing happens.
when I try to change the volume I can see the volume goes up or down
and when I press the oculus button for few sec I can see on the screen the animation but nothing after this.
I tried to factory reset, and shut off and then turns on I see the logo for longer than normal hear the greeting sound and than nothing like before.
I wanted to side load the OS using ADB and FASTBOOT as I fear it got corrupted or something.
in order to do that I need to turn on developer mode
and in order to do that I have to connect to the oculus app
and in order to do that I need to be able to use the headset to complete the connection process.
and my headset doesn't show anything on screen
additionally I tried using the Oculus developer hub, but eventually i get to the same issue i have with the mobile app ....
Now because I'm not in an oculus supported country I can't RMA it.
I'd be happy to get any help.
Thanks a lot
Ofiros

Phone Freezing and Won't Start Properly

Hi all,
I recently tried changing the wallpaper on my phone from a live background to regular image. The background went black and the phone froze.
I removed the battery and restarted the phone but it now often freezes on the LG logo. When it does occasionally start up the touch screen will not respond so I cannot get past my lock pattern. If I press the stand by button at the top of the phone, the screen goes off and cannot be turned on again, but the phone is still running - as I can tell this when connected to the computer.
I don't have my phone rooted and do not know much about that. I was hoping there was a way to fix this without having to lose all of my data or root/mod my phone. Otherwise I would be happy just to have my phone working.
Can anyone please help with this problem or tell me why the touch screen will not respond the times it does start up?
Cheers
UPDATE - I started the phone holding the volume button down and went into the recovery mode. I'm not sure exactly which option I then selected, as I hit the home key a couple of times, but I think it was "Clear cache and recovery" or something similar.
The phone managed to start back up with all my apps and photos, etc. Although I had to go through the startup wizard again and sign into the Market, LG World, etc.
Now I have a problem with quite a few of my apps. Whenever I click on them, they start very briefly and then I get the message "The application had stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" and have to force close. This happens with apps such as Adobe Reader, GTA 3 and Viber, so it's not a specific type of app.
I also noticed with the few apps that work, data is missing from some and not others. For example, I still have high scores in one game, but not in another.
Does anyone know what the problem is here or why this recovery is maybe causing this?
Thanks very much
Still haven't fixed this problem if anyone could please help. Most of the apps before the recovery still force close upon starting.
Some of these can be fixed temporarily by moving to phone/SD depending on location, but this only lasts for so long, before I have to move again. Others will open up each time as though it's the first opening of the app, e.g. Do you accept....
Apps downloaded after the recovery seem to work fine.
Any suggestions people?

Nexus 5 Keeps restarting

Hey guys,
I've found others complaining about the same issues but no resolutions. My phone constantly restarts itself after updating to 5.0
Attached is a video of my phone constantly looping: never mind I can't attach the link because i'm a new user. If you search nexus 5 keeps restarting on youtube you'll see it
Someone posted a trick where if you constantly tap the power button it'll turn on. It works for me, but it only delays the restarts, as soon I stop it turns off. I seriously need some help this is getting out of control. I've tried booting it in safe mode and no luck either, it still restarts itself. I've restored the phone as well, no luck. Hoping for a magic trick or something.

How did you solve this problem ? i have the same problem.
Sounds like the power button is stuck. It is not a software issue.
I had the exact problem yesterday. I fixed it by pressing the power button a bit harder than normal (you may have to disassemble the device as I did), and the button works normally again.

Can't find my OPO on ADB, also reboot loop on lock screen, help please?

Hey guys, I'm having a problem on my OPO after updating to Android 6.x.x (don't know the exact version, just the newest available update). I've been using 4.4.4. for a long time because of the superior battery life, but I was forced to update because my google play services started to crash every ten seconds. Anyway, after a couple days of going crazy with the insane battery drain (the phone was very hot during screen on, unlike in 4.4.4). I thought something was using power, so I went crazy with the privacy settings and privacy locked Google Play Services and a couple other apps, it asked me if it could access my contacts or something , I selected no and never ask again. The phone immediately stopped producing heat at the back and I browsed internet a couple minutes and thought everything was finally great. After this I turned the screen off. When I turned the screen on, it let me enter my lock pattern, but straight after that when it's supposed to open my home screen, it freezes and reboots after 5 to 10 seconds. The reboot loop is endless from this point forward, now it even crashes straight after I enter my SIM PIN code and goes into a reboot loop.
I had updated to 5.x.x before when it first came out, but had the same insane battery drain problem there so I went back to 4.4.4. So I have TWRP installed (I used it the last time when I went back to 4.4.4 from 5.x.x, so it should be there still?). I can access fastboot (volume up + power) and cyanogen recovery (volume down + power). I tried following this guide http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/1...den-death-bug-results-neverending-boot-loops/ , but when I run the command 'adb devices' , while my OPO is connected via USB in either fastboot or recovery, my PC won't recognize my phone (OPO doesn't show up either in device manager) and just gives me 'error: no devices found'. What should I do? I haven't tried factory reset in the the Cyanogen recovery, because I read somewhere that it probably wouldn't help and I'd lose all my data. However I'm willing to try this if there are no other options. Thanks for any input you guys might have. I can also post a video if needed to troubleshoot and demonstrate the problem.

Did you wipe your data partition when you updated frowm 4.4 to 6.0? Its most likely that all the apps are crashing due to incompatible data files.
I've once had the same problem and i managed to fix it with deleting data for every crashing app, so this might be an option.
Otherwise you might fix your phone by factory reseting from recovery.

Stuck on Boot Loop after update!

3 days ago I've woken up to my "supernatural" work-out to find out the light on the side of the oculus is RED, which was funky cause it was plugged in all night.
SO, I've looked inside and saw that it's "Updating' I was all happy to get the latest version, but then it just finished, showed the logo blinking as usual and then - NOTHING!
Blank screen, after a couple of seconds - Again started up, Logo, Updating, Logo, Dead. -->> Over and over again and again!!!
I can't connect to it via the phone APP as it keeps restarting and going to update like mentioned, computer doesn't connect as well!
I tried holding down the buttons and factory reset the thing, it goes to Erasing -> Update - > Logo - DEAD! same loop, looks like the "Basic" upgrading is faulty so it can't even factory reset.
Tried to choose 'sideload' option from the "USB update menu" - no good! reboots to loop again.
I can get it to stay stiil if I pop up the 'USB UPDATE MENU' with the buttons and just leave it there, USB Connection to PC shows up 'Oculus ADB Interface' in device manager but I can't get the device to show on "Adb devices" Probaby because it's not on 'developer mode', maybe.
Tried to update drivers and to re'install adb.
PC app shows oculus as connected but I can't do anthying through there...
Contacted support 3 days ago - Nothing! they will look into it... NOTHING! sooooo angry!
EDIT>>
I have managed to pair once from the phone APP but as it "finished' the setup it went straight back into that update boot loop and can't connect again on phone.
Was hoping to manage to get it to developer mode and maybe force an update via adb.
I've been coding for most of my life, playing around with android phones software and such... so i'm not a complete idiot when it comes to these things but this one looks like there is no other choice but just sending it back for repair.
But these guys don't answer or anything... don't even know If I can send it or not, where to etc...
Boot loop:

Tried factory reset:

ANY IDEAS?
come on you guys!!! nothing?!
OK,
Found out I can make the device show in ADB Devices list if I manually load the USB Update menu (volume+power) and then choose sideload option.
However, this won't help much it disconnects from ADB as soon as it finishes loading the logo and restarts the update loop.
I tried to start the sideload as soon as it pops up in the device list, got to 4% serving and then connection was cut off...
If there was a mini update file (couple of KB\MBs) with some settings to make the oculus reset into sideload mode and stop looping i could sideloap a proper version and make it work again maybe.
Please someone help me fix the oculusssss pleaseee!
I same!!!
and oculus support said
"With that in mind, Oculus will not be able to offer warranty replacment/repair for this headset. I can only suggest that you consider purchasing a replacement device from our online store or an authorized retailer. "
fxxxk!!!!!!!!
You're great man. I didn't have such an issue, but I also didn't know the Quest had a menu like this.
Hey @Shlomikalfa - did you ever come back to this and make any progress? With the Quest 2 situation now, and FB logins required, I suspect a LOT more people are going to get interested in this idea.
Just to add, my Quest2 has being working just fine since I got it at launch from Amazon. I was playing beatsaber last night until it ran out of battery and shutdown. I plugged it in to charge and went to bed. This morning, I tried to turn it back on, and it went straight to the USB UPDATE MENU!!
I tried every single option in the USB UPDATE MENU, including factory reset, and it reboots and goes immediately back to the USB UPDATE MENU again. The only option that doesn't take you back to that menu, is POWER OFF! (LOL)
But if I power off, as soon as I power it back on, I got the same menu!
The volume buttons are not stuck at all... since I can use then to navigate the options in the menu.
So I just created a ticket at Oculus support to see what they say!
Good thing is that Amazon.ca gave me until January 31/2021 to return the headset... so if Oculus doesn't sort it out, I'll be returning to amazon for a refund!
Funny thing though. While in this "USB UPDATE MENU", I plugged it in my linux box, and it shows as a fastboot device! I can even run "fastboot reboot" and it indeed does reboot the headset!
I tried "fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability" just to see if it would say 0 or 1... but got an error: "FAILED (remote: 'unknown command')"
Does anyone want me try anything? (as long as the warranty is not voided since I'm waiting support answer! )

I will try to answer all the problems of XZ2 :)

Hello,
My wife's Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact with model number H8324 has an issue with booting or maybe the launcher getting stuck in a loop after getting to the lock screen for a split second.
The phone seems to boot like normal and gets to the lock screen, we are even able to punch in one or two digits of the 4 digit pass code. Then it goes into a loop of the notification bar and back button flickering. From then on the phone is not responding except for the power button which brings up the normal "Turn off, Reboot, and Lockdown" menu. The issue just started out of nowhere yesterday morning and we haven't been able to fix it yet. We haven't done any rooting or custom rom flashing, it's running the official Sony software but it's out of warranty.
Here's a video showing the issue. The video shows the whole boot process but the link takes you to the last part after the logos.
We would love to get some files off it so if there is a way anyone can help us with that we'd prefer it over a hard reset.
Things we've already tried
Turning the phone off and on again
Unlocking the phone in the split second the lock screen works, this is just too short to swipe up and then put in four digits.
Rebooting the phone
Booting while charging
Booting into safe mode (this has the same issue)
Connecting the phone with USB to a pc, the phone is recognized by Windows, but it doesn't share it's filesystem with Windows.
Connecting the ADB to it, alas usb debugging is not yet enabled on the phone
Trying to get into recovery mode, we haven't been able to get into the recovery menu. Googling seems to indicate it might be holding volume up + power button when the phone is off but then it doesn't seem to do anything at all.
We're currently trying to run out the battery of the phone to see if that will resolve the issue on it's own.
If anyone has any idea, we would love to hear it.

I think u just need to reinstall rom file with newflasher and stock rom , did u tried it ? with newflasher newest version , u still can keep the personal files and flash stock rom for the phone , then i think this phone will run normal again
If u dont know how to do that , reply comment here , but u should turn off the phone to keep battery well , if u can't turn off the phone , try to press and hold volume up button + power button within 5 sec , phone will vibrate 3 times and totally off
Is there a way to get a stock recovery if somehow the recovery has been deleted?
