Hello, my Photon started acting up really weird. First of all, it was really slow. I thought it's because I had like 150MB left and it was nearly full data-wise. However, I erased most of the data, and left it with 3GB left. Didn't work and it got worse.
I have these stripes around the display (just at sides, not at middle), while phone is turned on. Doesn't matter if in system, or at boot logo. Doesn't matter, because whenever I get to system, I can be in system for like 1 minute, then every application starts crashing (Apex launcher, Google play, whatever you pick) and I basically can't get anywhere. Also if I go to sleep mode, phone is basically dead and it's pure luck when I will turn on phone again. I am trying every few minutes and it's worthless, because any time I get to system anyway, I crash after few seconds.
What to do? I was planing to install custom ROM yesterday, but never got to that, because this all started to act up. So what should I do? Reset system? Any other ideas? Is phone dead?
Sorry for bad english, no bully please.
Thanks in advance
Update - now when I am trying to start up my phone, I have just black screen with white lines in the middle. Then phone shuts down. I will give more info when I will be at home and can get phone on charger
Well definitely try to charge the device up. You might try re-flashing the stock ROM using RSD Lite... Although from your description I fear your issue may be hardware related.
Could turn device on. Apparently that black screen with white lines was just discharged phone. When I put it on charger, I could again boot into system and it was working until I pressed power button to go to sleep mode and phone is again dead. Will try to flash RSD Lite later today and will post what happened

Charge the device as much as you possibly can before doing anything with RSD. Ideally you should have at least 50% battery in the device when flashing anything.
This is really miserable. I can't really get into bootloader. Because phone after that 'crash' or whatever you want to call it is dead and I can't even see if it's turned on or not. Basically I am randomly waiting when it's gonna restart and then I just get into system. Even if I fully discharge it, it will have black screen with white lines first, it flashes quite couple times and then it will finally boot into system. Also I remember it was ***** in past to get into recovery. Can I do anything from system? Because as soon as I don't turn off my screen by power button, phone is working, though it has those lines on side of LCD (I will try to borrow camera from someone and post it here today).
I set automatic turning screen off for 10 minutes and I am really careful about pressing power button. Sucks there is only option for just 10 minutes, so I have to tap on screen at least for once every 10 minutes or I will not have working phone. **** my life, really.

Why can't you turn the phone off and charge it while off, or boot to recovery and charge the phone in recovery?

About charging it while turned off - Can't because when I try to turn it on again, it's roulette when I get finally bootloader logo and not black screen with white stripes.
And boot to recovery. Is it possible to like download some command prompt application and boot to bootloader from there? I know when I had my G1 (and when I actually understood android ) you could boot to recovery or bootloader via console. I have astro installed on phone, so downloading some console application and installing it shouldn't be problem.
Btw as we are speaking, I tried to call someone and I basically get same thing like when I am going to sleep mode, I get black screen and now I am just waiting, when phone will eventually want to restart itself.

Still sounds like some sort of a hardware issue, is the phone new to you?
You can certainly force bootloader mode, in several ways. When it's off you can hold power + camera and it will give you a choice of what to boot. When it's in Android you can do "adb reboot recovery" or "adb reboot bootloader" depending on where you want to end up. There are various apps which can also do this for you, if you are on the stock ROM but rooted.

Phone is not new. I bought it used about one year ago.
I am not entirely new to android, but I didn't have android phone for 2 years and then I got this one. So I am really pretty **** with android atm
I will try reboot to bootloader from some console application.
I am rooted, opened bootloader, stock rom
Finally got into recovery, what now?
Also, when I once booted to system, I downloaded some root checking app, and root apparently isn't here. Well cornholio told me it is rooted back when I gave him my phone to perform sim card mod, but whatever. However, I am in recovery, but device is not detected by RSD Lite.

Well reading back thru this thread, I was suggesting RSD Lite back to stock. I'm not really sure what you want to achieve tho, what your "final" goal is here.
I'm not even sure what kind of recovery you are booted into - stock recovery? CWM?
Either way, if you want to RSD the phone back to stock, you need to boot into fastboot/bootloader mode - not recovery. Just make sure the phone is charged up as much as possible before flashing in RSD.
Oh, sorry - misunderstanding from my side, thought I can switch to fastboot from recovery, oh well.
Also yeah, stock recovery.
To spread more facts - in case somebody would have similiar problems, when I try to just turn phone on, I have zero success what so ever. There's just this blank black page flashing every few seconds. However, when I remove back cover, I somehow force phone to load to bootloader logo, then I finally get chance to force phone to get to recovery. I will try to get to fastboot

Not sure if stock recovery has adb enabled, but if you have adb you can 'adb reboot bootloader'.
Otherwise do the power+cam trick I mentioned earlier.

Did you remove the getvar lines from the xml file...?
Yes
Weird. I only recall seeing that when people were trying to downgrade... but you are flashing 4.1.2.
The phone is in fastboot mode? What happens when you click "show device"? The "Device Properties" section is eerily empty.
I know it sounds shady, when I am coming back here again in few weeks, just been a bit busy lately, sorry about that.
However, somehow I got phone to flash it. The white graphical lines on sides dissapeared, however I got some new bug - I can't use phone in portrait mode, just in landscape - aka I need to swipe keyboard to have phone working. Also, that thing when phone completely stops working now occurs only when I am in that portrait mode, but I can restart phone this time.
When I finished this, it was midnight so I went to bad, so I tried to set up alarm, if it's gonna randomly shutdown like before and unfortunately, yes it did. I was waken up with this classical white line graphical bug black screen and had to reboot the phone. Oh well, managed to boot to system and it takes 5 minutes to fetch sim card (I have sim card mod from cornholio) and as I said, those white lines on side aka mysterious graphical bug is back.
Unfortunately for me, starts looking like real hardware issue now
Hi all !!! Sorry for my English but I need your help
I commented what is happening with my phone N5 (which for good and evil is always stock without root or anything, with corresponding OTA updates.)
1- Yesterday afternoon at lunchtime while reading a book in playbooks, I notice that suddenly disappears one line and then appeared intermittently. I close the app and noticed the same thing happening on the screen menu. I shut down the cell and turn on again and I thought it must be an application be kidding. But still does.
2 Also yesterday I happened to change the security on the phone screen. After a while of normal operation, try to turn it on the screen with the button, nothing, the screen goes "black", with light and retrolight turned on but no picture no nothing .
Called the cell to see if it works or is turned off and the phone rings but the screen nothing. Try turning it off and on again by holding the on / off / lock button and the phone restarts, but the screen nothing. In one such attempt to do the above it is seen that managed to turn it off. And I get it on and do a normal boot, except that the picture of my screen is changed to the original. Change the lock screen which was previously using (slip). And it seemed that out or some conflict with the lock. In one of those again pressed the ON / OFF / lock as would normally and it starts all over again.
After I magically back to life, I want to make a full wipe as I think it should be an app that is doing some conflict or something. BUT ....
3I turn off the phone and then press the keys VOLUME UP / DOWN and ON / OFF is normally off, squeezed the first screen with the options but options RECOVERY / BOOTLOADER appears in red I choose RECOVERY give the ok with the key and .... andriod robot appears with the legend below that says something (I do not remember well) without or without controls options appears. So its seems thatI dont have recovery.
After that keep pressing the key ON / OFF and the phone turns off and / or reboot normally. All this I did it again to see if the error reappears and looks that I do not have recovery.
The failure of the screen is increasing. I dont know if they are separate problems or is it all the same problem.
Sorry if I was too long but I need the help of you.
UPDATE Now it seems that the screen died, since I do not achieve to turn it on as before, the light and the retrolight its ok. The phone receives calls and notifications but the screen stills black.
Thanks all.

sometimes things just "derp". itll happen more often if you dont reboot your phone often. also, your phone will be a little bit more responsive if it gets reboot once a day or two.
RMA or fastboot it back to stock, if the screen doesnt turn on afterwards then it looks like a hardware issue, open device and reconnect the display.

Hi,
I am very new to all of this and I appear to have bricked my phone (sort of).
Before discovering this website I thought I'd remove the bloatware from my phone by following a Youtube video by SHEM so I could get root privileges.
However I got up to the part where I start using TWRP (5:40) and the actual display doesn't fit on my screen! Only three buttons fit going down the screen (Install, Backup and Mount) the others in the next row are cut off before the text reveals what they are. Because I know the one next to Install is Wipe, I press it but I cannot continue because Swipe to Wipe is completely off-screen.
So it seems that I am stuck with a phone that doesn't really do anything. All that happens when I switch on my phone is a light turns red, then the Sony logo appears, then the light turns green and the cycle repeats. All I am able to do is go into TWRP or switch off my phone (which doesn't appear to be completely off, the screen just turns black and it still seems to drain power). I am hoping that there's a way to resolve the issue, but my current level of inexperience leaves me clueless.
I think it may be important to mention that when I ran Z1-lockeddualrecovery2.8.0-RELEASE.installer it revealed a couple errors in the process. Everything seemed to work as expected however up until this point, though I'm not sure if my issue is connected.
I'm hoping somebody here will be able to assist, because I need my phone (obviously) and I would like to learn get root access without all the headaches.
Please help me!

Thanks for getting back to me. I went to the link and tried what it suggested.
I tried to follow the instructions under Finding the cause of the bootloop for After flashing a new rom, but the first part Start your phone in CWM Recovery says to hold down Home whilst turning the phone on. However, there is no Home button on the Xperia Z1 Compact. There is only Power, Vol Up & Down and the Camera button. I tried combinations of all and nothing changes. I still end up in a bootloop.
I will note that the bootloop occurs in the same way that I described in the OP, except that the red light doesn't flash. This only happens when the phone is connected to my computer via usb.
I managed to download the latest firmware from firmwaremobile(dot)com, re-flashed my phone and now it's back to normal.
I think I'll try getting root access again from one of the tutorials here on this site. I get the feeling that a lot of you know what you're doing when it comes to this sort of thing and can be trusted.
Can anybody recommend any particular one that gives root access on an Xperia Z1 Compact with the view of removing all bloatware from the device?

Here is an easy to use guide designed for the z1 compact, once you have rooted you can uninstall bloatware as you would any other app

Hey guys. I'm pretty desperate so i decided to make this thread.
Here is my problem:
I have changed screen on my phone today. Everything went without any problems since I tried to turn on the phone.
When I tried to turn it on I can see only MI logo on display ... Then after couple of seconds phone will restart automatically and goes into Recovery mode.
I tried to boot it from there without any results. Also tried to reset and wipe data without any results.
The biggest problem is that I cant even get into Fastboot menu by pressing Power button + volume down button. So I cant connect my phone with PC and try to flash new ROM.
Any suggestions? I would be really thankful for any advice.
Thank you very much.

Did you follow a tutorial for replacing the screen on your device? Where did you get the screen from? Was your screen replacement just the Touch Panel or the full screen replacement with LCD + Touch Panel? Was it an actual Xiaomi part or an aftermarket part? I would take your device apart again and make sure you didn't leave something loose or disconnected.
Quick question. Was you old display still working where you could see what was going on? Like, was it just cracked or was it completely inoperable?
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Thanks for reply. Yes I followed complete tutorial on youtube. Screen is from ebay. It should be original. I replaced full screen ( lcd + touch panel ).
So found simillar problem as mine - due to improper installation of back cover volume up button was pressed which caused that phone went to recovery menu after start ... ( you have to hold volume up + power key to get to Recovery menu). So I tried to dismantle it again but it didnt help. Still have same problem.
Yes old display is alright. I can see everything just touch screen is broken so I cant do anything on it. But I cant imagine this would be problem of display ....
Give your craftsmanship and handiwork the benefit of the doubt and install your old LCD+Touch Panel and see what happens. If you have everything installed correctly with every cable connected to it proper location then you should be able to boot normally.

Hi everyone. I'm using an Oppo Find X2 Lite since january and today I finally received the update to the ColorOS 11.1 based on Android 11. I put my phone in charge and started updating, but when the process finished something strange happened. When the phone re-booted it showed nothing but a black screen with the top bar with time, wi-fi and battery icons that goes on and off in a loop. I can't do anything: if I try to boot off the phone by pressing the power key, a white empty rectangle appears on the screen, but touching it does nothing. If I press the power button multiple times I can enter in a "SOS Emergency" mode by which I can use the flash light as an SOS or call my local number for an ambulance.
After buying the phone, I debloated it with adb commands following a list I found on this forum: may this be the reason for this behaviour? After debloating the phone I updated it a couple of times, but they were minor security update of ColorOS 7.
I have no idea of what to try, I'm just waiting for the battery to die and then try to access a recovery mode. Hope someone can help me, cheers

Try holding volume up + power button for 10-15 seconds phone should power down , when it does hold voume down plus power button should take you to recovery mode.
Hi,
I answer late but I got the same problem with my Oppo Find X2 lite. After dowonloading the Color 0S11.1 update my phone restarted.
But then I couldn't unlock it. The screen was flashing on and off in a bootloop.
I managed to get in recovery mode using the method described above. Unfortunately I couldn't just remove or restart the update and I had to do a full factory reset. Then the Colors OS 11 update went smooth.
I had also debloated my phone but only a few apps and services. I was very careful. So I have another clue : to me it looked like the phone couldn't load the fingerpint id sensor on start screen.
I wonder if it shouldn't be deactivated before any major updates.
@kibalcic : did you manage to solve your problem ?
