Selected network (Lycamobile) unavailable. But same SIM works on other phone - General Questions and Answers

I am having problems with a SIM card that I received from a new company (Lycamobile). For some reason, my phone (Redmi 6) is unable to really connect to the operator's network. The SIM is detected, I can see the phone number in the SIM settings and everything, and even change the PIN if I want, but I have never managed to connect to their network, it says only emergency calls are available.

What I have tried so far:
- Remove and re-insert the SIM
- Restore APN to default settings
- Activate and deactivate plane mode
- Manually selecting the network (Lycamobile or Lycamobile 4G) in the SIM card settings
Moreover, I have an old mobile phone (Nexus 4), with exactly the same behavior. It never connects to the network and there's no signal. I even reseted that phone to factory defaults, to no avail.
However, my wife also uses the same company and has another lycamobile SIM card. If I insert her SIM (which is a bit older) in my phone, it works flawlessly. And If she inserts my SIM in her phone (and iPhone SE), it also works without any issues. Even more, if then I re-insert my SIM to my phone after she has used it, I get signal and the phone works for a few hours, until the network stops again.
I have been fighting with the company customer support for weeks, but they have not been helpful at all. They even sent me a new SIM card, in case the other was defective, but after activating it, I see no change at all.
You must also know that I bought this phone almost three years ago in the US to use it with that specific phone company, and it used to works just fine.
I think I have tried everything that I can think of. Maybe my device or my android version (9) are too old for newer SIM card? Do you think if I try another phone company I'll have the same issue? Maybe the only solutions is buying a new phone?

The first thing that came to my mind is the phone's network band capabilities.
Every time I buy a new phone I must be sure that it can work on all bands in my country and overseas.
I NEVER buy phones from the US because the network providers set up "monopoly" style network bands which only work with specific phones that only they sell.
Said that, I would go check your phone's manual and specifications and see what network bands it can connect to.
That "specific" company might have changed network bands like it is happening in Australia because they want people to keep buying phones.
Always buy phones labelled as "international" version!

That is most likely the problem, although according to the phone company, my phone should work in their network. I have checked the bands, and they do not seem to be compatible with the T-mobile network. But they should with the AT&T network, so now I have ordered a SIM from another company that uses that network, and I'll see...

Blacklisted?

In a full T-Mobile coverage area I lost the signal. When I attempt to connect it says this sim can't be used on the network? Factory reset and It's still the same.

But, have you called tmobile and see if they can change towers to reconnect you or get a new sim
did you pull sim
check your apn settings
are you ok on wifi
Go into Settings / Mobile network / Network Operators / Select Automatically.
it will say searching for network and it will register on T mobile's network. after that you should have Voice / Data
Happened to me Once (or twice, cant remember) on my HTC Sensation
assumed OP already tried that--hope so--

I haven't called T-Mobile yet, just got home.
Wifi works, I opened this thread over WiFi.
I don't get a signal at all, so I don't think this is an APN problem.

I tried that and rebooted. I put my sim in a Motorola Defy, and it works perfectly. I'm about to call T-Mobile and the guy I bought it from.
Here's a picture of what it says after I tried the Select Automatically:

I purchased it on eBay, so I can always open a case.
The rep confirmed it was blocked today Now to call the seller and more than likely open a case.
I was going to say "sims die", get a new one, but a lot of recent posts lead me to say "don't buy a phone on ebay unless you are prepared for it to be stolen and blocked".
yeah, i would never do that. maybe craigslist where i can locally pu and try
but, it is what it is and hope the OP gets it sorted
Now what :beer::what:

huh i don't get it
The seller was very nice, I'm shipping it back today. I purchased it from Discount Wireless in IL. They probably bought it used, and someone reported it stolen.
Glad it's working out--

i727 "no sim" error on SOME cards

I have an unlocked AT&T Skyrocket SGH-I727 that is very picky about which SIM cards it accepts. I have seen a few similar forums, but nothing that fixes or seem directly applicable so want to start a new discussion.
No SIM Card
Similar problem but I'm not locked to any particular network, rather it is a few networks that work, a few that don't (all GSM).
No sim card error?? Any solutions??
My problem isn't no signal, it's no SIM.
"No sim" issue on Skyrocket
SIM card tray in my phone doesn't appear to be loose.
No signal after sim unlock
Not working at all, no solution.
I was running Cyanogen Mod with no problem on China Unicom (could use also China Mobile 2G) but on a trip last month to Bolivia was surprised that the phone doesn't accept any of the local SIM cards (such as Tigo, a GSM network) while an HTD Status and my backup SGH-i777 worked with all of these networks.
I tried a few different ROM's before flashing the i727 phone back to stock using Odin. Other than installing Team Win Recovery v2.2.0, it's plain stock, not even rooted. See below:
Android version 4.0.4
Baseband version Unknown
Kernal version 3.0.8
Build number IMM76D.UCLF6
While back in the US I tried several other cards, including an AT&T SIM, Straight Talk (actually from AT&T) and it also said no SIM. I've found that the China Unicom SIM works perfectly and a few others (see photo below) consistently work fine. I'd really like to get the phone working again on all of these GSM networks like my i777, HTC and i9300 do.
I've tried flashing three radios Radio_RIL__I727ATTKJ2, Radio_RIL__I727ATTKK1, Radio_RIL__I727RUXKJ7 but other than making T-Mobile 3G work, haven't helped me use any of the other SIMs.
Can anyone help with this? Should I be flashing another radio, replacing a part of the hardware (warranty isn't an option)? I'll buy a case of Redbull, Guinness or similar if I can get this working.

read returning to stock sticky, perform a reset afterwards, if still having issues, then either faulty phone, like sim tray or its contacts, or the unlocked method was fracked up in one way or another, try the free unlock method and see what happens, its in the 1stop sticky

Keeps dropping network

Woke up this morning, no service, keeps saying current network (T-Mobile) is unavailable, the only way it'll work is if I pull sim card out, power it down, reinsert it and start it back up, it'll work fine for about half an hour and drops network again.
I'm running latest mahdi ROM, nothing else modified.
Any help appreciated.
BTW sim card is relatively new( about 5 months old)
Try a different ROM and if it still does it RMA the device I was having problems with service to where when I was using data it would decide to switch to h/3g I'm on T-Mobile as well

Thanks for the suggestion, i don't think its the ROM, but to put my mind and ease and eliminate that possibility I'll flash another ROM tonight.
Btw how does the RMA work? I've never had to go through this before
Thanks
If you purchased it through T-Mobile just call T-Mobile and tell them you're having problems with it and just do troubleshooting stuff and if what they say doesent work unroot it and send it back and if you purchased it through google same exact thing
Although I bought it brand new, it wasn't from Google or T-Mobile itself. If I can't rectify this with software I'll have to contact lg and see what they say
No bueno, flashed other ROM and currently on stock ROM still having same problem, service drops off rendering phone useless. Emergency calls only is all i get.
Any advice?
Try going to the service menu which you can get into by dialing *#*#4636#*#* in dialer. Go into phone information and try changing this setting:

Since you're on t mobile I'd recommend trying anything but CDMA. WCDMA is fine though. Maybe one of the options will help solve your connectivity issues.
Personally I'm on WCDMA only when connected to WiFi. This gives me 3G. Otherwise I am on LTE only. GSM should give you 2g.

Have you tried different modem?
Figured it out, in short I got scammed. Called tmobile today, they blacklisted the phone for non payment, I guess the guy that sold it to me hadn't paid it off/paid. I guess lesson learned, call service provider and make sure device is paid off.
It still works with att. At this point I'll sell it as such and or for parts.
Thanks everyone

[Completed] Can't activate Droid Turbo 2 - Hardware Issue?

Hello!
I have already poured my heart (an obsessive number of hours) into getting as far I as I have with this and could really use some expert advice. I have repaired a water damaged Droid Turbo 2 (factory unlocked, locked bootloader) stuck in bootloop and eventualy got the device to a point where everything I tested (screen, digitizer, sensors, wifi and bluetooth radios, speakers, microphone, cameras, flashes, battery and charging circuits, ...) worked. I was super excited, until I tried to activate the device with my carrier today, multiple times, (Metro PCS) and failed. I'm not an expert on this stuff, especially how cell networks work, and I need guidance on what to do next.
When I attempted to activate the device at the Metro PCS store they set the phone up from the carrier's end with the IMEI and sim card number, and after the phone was rebooted multiple times no connection was ever made. No service is shown on the 'bars' and Cellular network settings > Mobile Network Type displays 'No service'.
The brand new sim card appears to be functioning. When calls are attempted, a prompt appears that states the phone will not make calls on airplane mode, even though airplane mode is definitely not active. The prompt allows you to select 'Yes' to turn airplane mode off, after which the phone states that it is turning on the radio. This process apparently times out, and I am sent back to a blank dialer. The people at the store or Metro PCS Dealer Support Group haven't been able to tell me why it won't work, except a lady on the line eventually said that she thinks the phone only supports CDMA, but I am sure this isn't true. At the store we did try manipulation of APN settings with no luck as well.
Main things I did to get the phone this far (ie. before ever attempting to activate it with a carrier) - flashed OEM firmware 6.0.1 I found online (didn't fix), torn phone down and cleaned corrosion with 91% isopropyl alcohol (the step that got the phone out of bootloop), tore NFC/wireless charging coils part flex cable in the process which caused the charging circuits to malfunction, replaced that part, and tested every feature I possibly could.
The only two things I can think of as to why I can't get the device onto my network: the cellular radio happens to be the only thing still broken on the phone OR it's just not going to work with Metro PCS for some reason.
I know there are people on these forums that know a lot about this stuff, and I could really use your help. Any advice will be appreciated.

Can't connect to network suddenly and emergency calls only

Today i went on business trip and while on plane i put airplane mode on. Upon landing i couldn't connect to network anymore, it gives me 2 errors depending if i manually select network or try automatically, those 2 are Unable to connect. Try later and Error while searching for network.
I reset network settings, restarted phone, reset it, tried different sim in my phone and it didnt work either, mine did in other phone. I dont known what to do besides wait to go home and give it to service since its under wattany... any ideas please?

You didn't say but have you tried a reboot?
At least20 times, wiped cache too
Came home and network works... I'm still taking it to service but don't know how they'll or I can test it. Other sim produced same error abroad so it's not that...
Edit:
Bit of an update:
I called my warranty place they said phone is from Italy which now made sense but that it should work. I ran imei check and it says blacklisted. I bought it new unsealed with warranty from official place so now I'm gonna need a new phone, right?
It is the bug of Samsung. I am having the same problem all the time on both S8+ and S7Edge. Iphone 6 is fine. Typical answer form Samsung is 'network or sim' related. O2 is saying problem with your phone. When I choose network manually everything is working. As a fix you can turn 4g off when roaming
