Question installing updates - Motorola Moto G100 / Edge S

Hi guys
I have a chinese edge s with a g100 stock rom and I want to install updates when they come out
what would be the easiest way to do this
I did it once using this guide
I thought about using twrp recovery but I don't know if it's possible to use it without wiping all of my data
I'd much appreciate if anyone can help me with an easy and quick way to do this

I'd love a solution, but from what I've seen, its not possible.
I mean there was a solution out there where I'd have to wipe "once" more and not have to again, I'd be down, but I've been holding back from updating since March because, I just dont have the time to do it.
Definitely curious if someone has something for us folks

Noob question - How to install CWM recovery?

I'm coming from an iPhone and have been reading and re-reading threads on rooting to make sure that I do it correctly. I think I'm all set to use Odin and have all the files downloaded. Seems pretty straightforward.
The only question I have is; how do I get CWM recovery installed?? I had a Droid X years ago and bought Rom Manager Premium, can I download and use that??
Thanks.
P.S. Sorry if this is a super noob question. I just don't wanna brick my phone.
follow my guide in the developoment section or click link in sig...all you do is download the ez recovery app from playstore..you must be rooted first!

I just went to the play store and looked at that ez recovery app, friggin sweet!!! Thanks!
I'll root and backup later on today!! This app makes it easy cause I'm not familiar with adb commands.
I just came from a Verizon HTC Rezound to the Verizon Samsung GS3, and I am a bit confused at the differences between the two. It appears things like rooting and ROM flashing are done WAY differently on the S3. I managed to get it rooted and have TB and SU working without an issue, and I was able to flash a custom recovery with ROM Manager, but still have some confusion about the inner workings of this phone.
1. Does this phone have an HBOOT?
2. Can I do Nandroid backups on this phone?
3. What is this flash counter I keep seeing mentioned?
Thanks in advance.

I know he probably should have created a new thread for this question. However, I too am curious as to the answers to these questions. Is there anyone familiar with HTC devices that can explain the differences? Especially 2 and 3 as the term flash counter has me rather frightened. I am looking to purchase a new phone and really want the GS3 but not if I can only flash the ROM a few times.

Yeah, don't jack my thread!!!
After finding out the issue was a bit of user error I got CWM to flash correctly.

if you follow the methods in my guide you wont trip the flash counter...most new android devices have a counter that counts how many times custom software was flashed on the device. there are ways to reset it aswell...best advice is to start doing alot of reading! my guide will get you where you want to go, but i dont have the time or patience to explain all the differences between samsung and htc for flashing roms. i will say samsung is much harder to brick thanks to odin.

Are there any devs working on the Samsung Galaxy Stellar?

I keep searching trying to find stuff. I found a thread on another forum that led me to getting root. I know patience is a virtue, and all, but I should would like to see some work on roms, and recoveries, and for there to actually be a section on XDA for this device.
Yeah I accidentally tried to flash a bootloader from the "Verizon-GS3-CASUAL-Revision131a" java program. I lost my backups in the process so can anyone give me a hand with a backup from thier Stellar?
Hey I actually found the open-source kernel and platform for the Stellar at Samsung's Open Souce site.
Would that help me any?
Idk, I unfortunately don't know much about the development side of things. I rely on the devs here for that stuff. I'm to afraid to mess something up to flash something that someone else hasn't said that it works. I used to do that with my Captivate, but I need this phone to work, and not stuck in infinite bootloop

You wouldn't happen to have a backup by any chance?
I don't know what recovery to use, or how to flash it. If I had that I could make a backup, and upload it

If you got ClockworkMod recovery onto your phone (as I saw you got it rooted) you may be able to give me a zip and I think I can make it into a .tar file so Odin will read it since Odin mode is the only mode my phone will get into right now.
I'll keep looking around for some other methods of backup...I also heard Titanium Backup wasn't too bad...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491157
This link is a place where I found the possibility of using a CWM .zip file for Odin.
I am rooted, but have not installed a recovery. I am not sure which one to flash, or how to flash it

Hmm...you bring up a good point. It's best I not ask you to put in a new recovery mode since we don't know what exactly that will do to the Stellar. I will say that before I bricked the phone I actually did make it work...barely so lets not do that.
Can you try using some programs that access the phone through the computer?
Google this: Index of /romdump
You should find a little program calle Romdump. It should extract the roms without messing anything up.
Do you know about ADB? If not I do have enough experience to help you with that.
You need to have a clockwork mod recovery that is built for this phone, or whatever phone you are using, in order to get it to flash. Without a custom recovery for the galaxy stellar, or at least a recovery that is sure to work for this phone (I think I heard about some S3 stuff that works for the stellar, like the root method I think you used) the recovery will not flash and your phone will not load until you reflash the stock recovery.
Do not flash any recoveries until you know they work for your phone (i.e. someone has tested them), or without a backup of your stock recovery.
Since you are both saying you're not devs and don't really know what you're doing (neither do I really) I would suggest not flashing any recoveries that have not been confirmed to work for the stellar. Yes, many people use CWM and TWRP but there is a custom build of those recoveries for every phone, they are not universal.
I'm really interested in this phone so I'm hoping some development starts. Without community support and development I don't think I would bother switching to Verizon to get this phone even though its free. I hate cell phone contracts...
Not to be rude, but you wouldn't happen to have a rooted Galaxy Stellar on hand?
I also found something else that may help bring the phones back:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960946
UPDATE: If anyone can use this on their phones I would be very grateful:
This link shows how to use romdump to get the stock firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1771347
I thought there would be a lot more people like me who needed a new phone, didn't really have money for an upgrade, so they went with this phone like I did. Doesn't really seem like it has gained much interest in the dev community. It still doesn't have it's own subforum on here. I am starting to really regret getting this phone. Half the fun of having android for me was the dev, and community support for the devices I had in the past. I had the galaxy s, and the inspire 4g, both of which had really big communities, and they started pretty much right at the release for those phones.

Hey do you two have Samsung Stellars? If so, are you interested in rooting your phone?
STOCK ROM!
HEY guys I rooted my phone already. Things were going great, until i decided to download some kind of font switch. I guess it is required for the phone to be root. Then it asked me to restart my phone, that's when my phone froze on the samsung logo screen . It' stuck there ever since. I did a factory reset, and that didn't work either. So i downloaded ODIN and im waiting for a STOCK rom! can anybody help me with that and PM me?It would be great THANKS!
Anyone have an idea on how to back up the stock rom? I haven't seen anyone who has successfully done it with this phone yet

Sovereign738111 and I worked on this yesterday and got the recovery, system, and bootloader images off of my phone and into a couple of files. Now we just need a developer to give them to...In the meantime I'm also reading up on how to build a custom ROM etc. so that I can get familiarized with it. That way I can possibly try it myself. I know how to compile my own regular Linux kernel and add packages and things of that nature, and looking at what I've seen so far, figuring this out for Android shouldn't be too difficult.
I don't have the Stellar but I would be willing to work on a ROM for you guys. If someone would give me the files I need, I'll gladly do it. Just need a couple of people to test also.

[Q] Root after updating to 10.6.27.5

Hi all, I just picked up this TF300T and accidentally updated it to 10.6.27.5 and can't seem to find any root that works with this version, I was wondering any of you guys have any idea how to root it? i already have it unlocked with the official asus unlocking apk.
also just a side question, my TF300T seem to be running extremely slow and glitchy, any ideas? or is the stock rom just not that great?
Thanks.
Edit:
also side note, I was able to boot to recovery, but it doesn't have the USB icon in the middle
it's got RCK / Android / WIPE DATA
if i click RCK it just gets stock there with the Android guy open with a red ! on it
it i click Android it just boots into normal OS
and wipe data is prob just wipe data havn't tried this yet
Update:
I got my tablet rooted.
in here it'll help you downgrade to 10.6.8.1 and all that good stuff.
please visit for more info

and also just FYI.
use [openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-tf300t-JB] when i used the 2.5.0.0 my screen was split in half.
Sorry - seems like I just posted the exact same question.
I will just add that I tried to install CWM recovery before updating the FW to 10.6.1.27.5 and had the exact same problem with the previous FW.
does anyone know if i can downgrade it from 10.6.27.5 to 10.6.27.1 or even before that?
thanks.
just fyi

Root and custom rom for V10.6.1.27.5 bootloader?
I also did the update on my new tf300 and wondering if any root or custom rom can be installed on my tf300 with V10.6.1.27.5 bootloader?
I just want more speed and to get rid of the lag in the tablet. Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks

Welcome to XDA,
To solve any problems with your device, 1st search and read, read, read! Then ask questions if you can't find it. If anyone helps you, thank them using the "Thanks" button. Take things slowly, don't overload yourself with information. Eventually you'll be a pro and helping others out.
Watch this to learn not how to be a n00b new user and to be a good user.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JmvCpR45LKA
If you read enough, you would of learnt all (stock) TF300T users lost root after the update to .27.1, and also .27.5.
To get root, try downgrading and rooting via mottochopper
Read these:
Mother of all guides and then some
Downgrade Android
Use this for root afterwards, works with versions before .27.1
Have fun rooting! If you have any questions, I'll be happy to answer them.
Hit that thanks button, its a good habit to get into.

[Q] About to unlock RAZR HD questions

I need to some help with making sure I am going the right way.
I've got a Razr HD - XT925 on the ROGERS/FIDO network.
The phone is rooted and I wanted to install Cyanogenmod on it. I used to have it on a Motorola Milestone and loved it. I would love to install Cyanogenmod on this phone as I liked the way you could tweak the phone more.
Android version is 4.1.2
Baseband - VANQUISH_U_BP_100700.220.65.33P
BUILD NUMBER - 9.8.2Q-8-XT925_VQL-12.2
SYSTEM VERSION - 98.21.12202.XT925.RCI.en.CA
Now I've had root for awhile now and ready to take the plunge. Here are the steps I think I should take.
1. Unlock with Motopocalyspe.
2. Install TWRP
3. Add Cyanogenmod img to SD Card.
4. Boot into recovery and install img file?
Given the type of phone I have will these steps be fine? I'd appreciate the help to know at least I am in the right direction. Thanks in advance!
i cant confirm your system version will let you unlock, but your steps are correct.
I've been to the Motorola site and it seems like I should be able to unlock. I would rather unlock using motopocalyspe though. Can anyone confirm?
Also regarding cyanogenmod, is it relatively stable? Camera works? Wireless? Which version is recommended?

Well since this was a question and answer forum on Razr HD I thought it would be helpful if anyone else had any experience with this phone version and if any hiccups occured. So I would know what to expect. Obviously I could just try and see what happens as you say but given that I would be voiding my warrenty when I do unlock, I just wanted to hear from others with this phone. Also from reading some posts on these forums I wouldn't say unlocking is without some risks as you say. But thanks for your insightful and helpful comment.

Hey
Yeah I used motochopper to root my phone. Didn't have any problems with that. I then tried motocopolyspe to unlock the phone and it went without a hitch. Motopocolypse does exactly what the official website would do. I was relieved that it was so painless. And the phone is working like a charm. No problems! I then installed TWRP. Didn't really have any problems with that other then getting a message that the image file was invalid. When I investigated the problem more I found for some reason the image file was not complete so I redownloaded it and it worked after that. I now have Cyanogenmod running on the phone since Saturday and so far things are running great and no crashes or resets! Going to play around it it more and let you know. Let me know if you need any help with the steps I took. So you have exactly same phone? On the Fido network?
hey!!!
yes sir...i have the exact phone as you and am on the rogers network. was relieved to see your post cuz i just received the phone last friday and am unfamiliar with motorola...have/had a samsung infuse and am much more familiar with the those rooting methods. i had asked on other threads about the process and have read up on rosenberg's tool that i have to root first then unlock but having read the ominous warnings on the moto site about unlocking i was hesitant to use that...i love the battery life on this thing but was concerned about the ease of customizing but if u say it worked for u i think i'll keep it and take the plunge lol. yeah that would be great if u could help out on the steps as well...

(Newbie) D6603 root

Hi.
I have recently bought a secondhand d6603 on Android 6.0.1, build number 23.5.A.1.291
I need to find a way of rooting my phone (easiest way)
I have rooted phones before but only by using Kingroot etc
I have been going round in circles looking at websites explaining it but don't understand some of it.
All I want is an easy explanation of how to do it that I can follow.
Can I root without unlocking Bootloader? If not, how do I do it?
I really need someones help if possible. Like I say, the easiest way possible would be great.
Thanks in advance. Love the group
You can keep locked bootloader as long as you use ROMs with stock kernel. They will specify this and most here are for LB.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/recovery-root-mm-575-291-lb-t3435214
This will get you recovery the fastest way and from there you can flash a pre-rooted .zip or custom ROM
Many thanks for that, however, I managed to remove the Bootloader and install TWRP. First thing I did was do a backup using TWRP but now I am stuck in a bootloop and don't know what to do :crying:
I reinstalled the backup just incase it was something like that, but even after reinstalling the backup, I'm still in bootloop.
