Has an update broken Autofill on Xiaomi Poco X3? - General Questions and Answers

Autofill seems to have been broken on my Xiaomi Poco X3 running MIUI Android 11.
On a webpage with a text entry box (search for items on site, etc). I get the usual drop-down list of previous search terms. Up to a few days ago, I was able to touch on a previous search term and have it used.
For the last few days I get the usual dropdown list but can't actually select anything!
It certainly happens on Brave browser and on Chrome.
I can still paste from the Gboard clipboard and use suggestions from Gboard.
So far I have cleared cache and forced stop on both Brave and Chrome browsers. I have rebooted. I have reinstalled Brave browser. I have uninstalled updates on GBoard and reinstalled.
Autofill remains broken.
There seems to be quite a few people asking the same question. See https://forums.androidcentral.com/ask-question/1034943-how-fix-autofill-not-working.html#post7009398
Does anyone here have /know of similar issues? Has Xiaomi pushed out a faulty update?

Same happening with me also in Poco X3

Well, I've had a winge at Xiaomi support. If loads of other folk do as well, something MIGHT be done.

I have been getting positive responses (so far at least) from
https://mobile.twitter.com/XiaomiSupport
It may be worth trying there.

The problem is with update 12.5.4.0 (Poco X3 NFC Global).
I was lucky enough to have two Poco X3 NFC (mine and my wife). She started complaining about this autofill problem. My phone was working fine. After comparing settings, I noticed her phone had updated to 12.5.4.0. Mine was still on 12.5.3 or whatever the previous official release was. I proceeded to update my phone to 12.5.4.0 like hers and sure enough, my autofill also stopped working. So the bug was introduced with that update.

Thanks for that observation. My wife too has the same phone as me (both bought at the same time). Here is on 12.5.4.0 and doesn't exhibit this problem! I use Brave browser (Chrome derived) and Chrome itself. Hers just uses Chrome. Dunno if that is relevant.
What browser(s) are you using?

That's strange. I still think the issue surfaced with the latest update but something differs between your phone and hers but who knows if it's a settting or what. I did try different browsers and the problem remains.

I did chat with them. They had me download the latest package which I did and installed. It did not resolve the autofill issue. Waiting for them to suggest something else.

OK. Thanks for letting me know. They had me do the same, with the same result.
I'll post again when/if I hear anything more.
Cheers and good luck

Definitely the update. Went into Chrome app info (long press icon) and there was an option to uninstall update.
Since I did that auto fill now functions correctly

Well, it seems latest versions of Chrome and Brave browser (Chrome based anyway) don't play nice with MIUI 12.5.4.
YMMV but this worked for me. I just uninstalled the Chrome updates and that restored Autofill there. I then found an earlier version of Brave on apkmirror, installed that and we have autofill there too.

Yep. Latest Chrome update is the culprit. Just not sure if it got updated with the package as mine stopped working right after that update. Nevertheless, uninstalling the latest Chrome update restored the autofill function.

Well, Chrome and the Chrome derived browser Brave have been updated and it's good to report after a short while using Brave, that autofill now works.
Now, about all those mindless ads that get pushed by Xiaomi phones. When are they going to stop annoying people with them?

App versions reverting without notice. Could be a major bug.

Alright, this is a strange one. I'm wondering if anyone else can confirm this, although I bet few have probably noticed it.
I normally update my installed apps by going to the Market app and selecting "My Downloads." Often times I'll see "update available" and then I install the update, which wipes out the previous version.
Last week, I found an app called aTrackDog, which basically is a version tracker for your apps. It goes out and finds new versions and notifies you, so you can go download your updates. It not only follows the market, but also the app developer's homepage, in case they release their update through different mediums. I don't use it to install or uninstall, just track my versions.
This is when I started paying attention to the version numbers of a few apps. For this example, we'll talk about Advanced Task Manager and Pandora. I updated ATM from 3.5 to 3.6, and Pandora from 1.0.0 to 1.1.0. To do this, since the market didn't say there was an update, I uninstalled each app, and then reinstalled from the market. Everything was great, and each app showed its new version, from the splash screen on Pandora, to how ATM was listed in Task Panel, as version 3.6.
I just rebooted my phone because I was getting the 99% uptime thing, and wanted to mess around with killing the messages task to see if that made a difference. Much to my surprise, when my phone restarted, my phone has reverted many of my apps back to older versions.
My Advanced Task Manager now is back to version 3.5, Pandora is back to 1.0.0, and many other apps are affected.
This seems like a MAJOR BUG. Can anyone else confirm this at all?
To recreate this issue, if you have Pandora version 1.0.0 currently, or 1.1.0, uninstall and reinstall it. You then will have version 1.1.1 I believe. Then reboot your phone, and start Pandora back up. Does it still say 1.1.1?
I have found this also happens with Advanced Task Manager, and Mileage. I'm sure there's others, but those are a couple of examples. This has happened to me at least twice that I'm aware of.
EDIT-- Here's three links on other Android forums where someone else is experiencing this same thing.

I've noticed this too. I've really noticed it with NewsRob because it will pop up a message stating " A new version is available", but the Market knows what I downloaded last so it states that there is no update. I was wondering, since I too had Atrackdog installed (not anymore) if it was an issue with that program, maybe an issue with just what version was listed in certain programs (as in some piece of code to display the version number got messed up) or if there really was automatic downgrading going on...

I've tried to remove aTrackDog, and I'm still getting the same behavior. I really doubt that it has to do with that app, but rather the people that use that app are more aware of version numbers, and are the ones noticing it.
I'm assuming lots of people have Pandora on this board (or mileage, Advanced Task Manager or NewsRob for that matter) so we need more people to try to reproduce this issue!
What I'm trying now is to uninstall the app (in my case I'm using Pandora as it says the version number on launch) then reboot the phone, and then reinstall, use it to see the new version, and then reboot to see if it gets reverted.
What's the result? IT REVERTED AGAIN. This is definitely a bigger issue than we realize...but WE NEED PEOPLE TO REPRODUCE THIS.
EDIT:
I also emailed Pandora support to see if they can't reproduce the issue or help me figure out what's up.
I also emailed the devs for aTrackDog to see if they can't shed some light on what might be going on. Hopefully they'll be quick to help, so we can squash this biznatch.
I also posted a question in the App Market Google Forum, and hopefully someone at Google will help figure this out. http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android+Market/thread?tid=56ff6f465d6e5e34&hl=en
I also reproduced this issue with TEN more apps:
Astro File Manager
Google Sky
Google Voice
Backgrounds
Barcode Scanner
Shop Savvy
Battery Widget
Daily Horoscope
Facebook
Movie Finder
Google, you got some 'splaining to do.
I use Astro to backup files to my SD card. After I reboot I go through all the "red" files (ones where the SD card version is newer than the installed version) and "upgrade" them with the SD card version.
Alas the Market app tends to "lose" the fact I downloaded some of these apps and no longer tracks them for updates
Something is definitely wrong somewhere.
I'm seeing the same issue, I even tried a factory reset and still happening.
You can add to the list:
Touchdown
Sipdroid
I think it is just about all apps. Even if you uninstall and reinstall the latest version seems to revert back to original version you installed for the first time.
Locale...
This happened to me this week with Locale. I had beta .68 and upgraded to beta .69.
A couple of days later, I noticed I was still running beta .68. I thought maybe they had forgotten to update the name in the app itself, but after seeing this thread, I'm betting it's an HTC Sprint Hero bug.
I also re-visited the Android Market to see if I could re-download beta .69, but it didn't recognize that the program could be updated. It must think I'm running beta .69, but I'm pretty sure I'm still rocking beta .68.
Verrrrry strange...
I just reproduced this as well, with AK Notepad.
I had 1.9.3b installed; upgraded to 1.9.4. rebooted; now it shows 1.9.3b again
I'm using modaco's rom with apps2sd setup. Is this happening on stock heros too?
edit:
From what I've been able to gather from Handcent SMS's version changelog and look for in the actual application I have on my phone, it appears that it is only the display of the version that is reverting, not the application itself. I have this issue with Handcent and even the "about" dialog inside the application reports the older version, but I am seeing features and changes that only appear in later versions according to the changelog. We'd need a major update of an application to test this further.
edit2:
grinched from #android on EFNet helped test this on a stock CDMA Hero and was able to replicate it with Barcode Scanner.

Basically the same thing, but you delete the entire cache directory instead of just the broken ones one at a time. The cache is recreated after you reboot.

Hello! I don't get my OP6 till Monday or Tuesday, but I used the method in the link you provided for my Essential PH-1 and it worked fine. I've never had a OnePlus device before, so I'm not familiar with OOS. I'm hoping this method works as I like watching Plex VR with friends who don't live in the state I do.

I tried this last night....and it worked for the most part. Until I launched Daydream, the left picture was fine, the right picture looked like a kaleidoscope. So I reverted the daydream version back 1 version and there was a large black line in the middle of the right picture. Reverted to an older one again, and one more time both with the same black line (was a pretty thick line)
So I renamed the device to OnePlus 6 from sailfish in build.prop, and removed the 2 <feature name= /> lines from the handheld_core_hardware.xml files.
I hope something works for us soon!
FYI I got this working yesterday. I had to install an old version of Daydream though - 1.10 worked. I was then able to upgrade to latest (1.15.) I didn't exactly test it thoroughly so I'm not sure if it has to be the right phase of the moon while hopping on one foot or anything, but I got "incompatible phone" errors until I used 1.10 then everything was cool. I was able to play through the tutorial and poke around a little at the menus.
EDIT: I just tried it again and right "lens" was messed up. Uninstalled and went back to 1.10 and seems like everything is working again. 1.11 isn't on apkmirror and 1.12 seems to have a bit of an updated UI, so maybe there's something to using 1.10? I'll play around some more tonight and report back.
EDIT 2: Oh haaay 1.16 was just uploaded to apkmirror last night. Will try that too.
Oh, and FWIW I'm on stock rooted Oxygen 5.1.8 with the 8/256 model.
Anyone else having any luck?

Have you gotten this to work with 1.16? I tested 1.10 and still got the "Incompatible device" error when trying to configure Daydream. I also attempted 1.08 just to see if older versions worked, then went for 1.16, getting the same results.
I'm on an OP6, OOS 5.1.8, stock rom, rooted.
I got Daydream working with current Daydream build from the app store. I installed the Magisk Module called "Daydream Enabler"
I'm on OP6 128/8 stock OOS 5.1.7 with Magisk 16.0 and MM 5.8.1

Naw no luck. The magisk module is working fine though. Same results that it breaks the video recorder.
But I ran into something unexpected - That module appears to make visual voicemail on project fi work. Sort of. They show up, but won't play. Before oneplus + projectfi = no visual voicemail. I'll play with it some more when I get back stateside (I'm in Mexico at the moment.) Would be neat if it enabled network switching onto sprint! A girl can dream...
Edit: Enabling the module (which "pixelizes" your phone) made the project fi app give me the "welcome to mexico" thing which I didn't get when I entered a new country on a non-officially-supported phone, and it prompted me to download Android 9, which I declined since I'm sure it would have been the pixel's rom and bricked my oneplus.
Neat to see it enables some project fi stuff...
Any further progress on this?
no progress and i noticed that I can't access to all app in daydream store app

Advantages of EU/Global over Chinese ROM

tldr:
What are the advantages of installing the EU ROM over just keeping the Chinese ROM and customizing it? Are there any functions that stop working and/or change for the worse?
Hi everyone. Hopefully this post will be a helpful resource if someone else wonders this same question.
For a while I had my eye on the Mi Mix 3 and after reading all the reviews I just had to get it. I wanted one with 8 gigs of ram and 256 gigs of memory so I got the Chinese variant. After reading post after post on how to change the ROM to EU or Global I finally asked why? I mean, I got the phone and promptly loaded the Google Play Store and downloaded a bunch of apps. I changed the launcher to "Poco Launcer" from the GP Store since it's basically the same as MIUI but with an app drawer, so I'm cool with that. That beings said...
What are the advantages and drawbacks of installing the EU ROM (the one I kinda decided on between the two alternates)? The only two things that bother me about the Chinese ROM are
1) The default assistant is in Chinese and you can't change the AI button to open a different one, even though you can still install the others and use them by opening the app.
2) Some of the Apps in the "App vault" (Their little slide right home screen) and the tools when you open the slider are Chinese apps that I have no interest in using, but you can't change them. My solution to this was to turn off the app vault and to make the slider do nothing, which is okay I guess.
So basically, what would I gain by switching ROMs, and what pitfalls exist in those alternate ROMs which might make a person think twice about changing?
Why run MIUI at all?
Don't waste anymore time and just flash it already. it's better and I'm not wasting my time explaining why.

Because MIUI works. In your signature the top one is for the "Pixel Experience" and it's 90 pages of people complaining about features that don't work or are partially broken. The culmination is on the last page where it's revealed that it's not under development anymore followed by people complaining about functions that STILL DON'T WORK.

I don't mean to waste anyones time, and especially not my own. All I need to know is, will any of the features of my phone be problematic after I flash?
Also, does that link you provided require this "twrp" thing I've read about or is it fastboot? Is it the EU version?

It will work fine, it's just a tweaked version of Chinese Dev stock rom with less bloat. Their website explains the features over global
You need twrp to install it

Everything works on the Chinese devices, other than being able to link an action to the slider. Most of the problems are to do with initial installation, but this is the way every rom thread ends up, people only post when they have problems.

MIUI Global 10.3.3 RAM Management?

I'm not going to rant a lot here, but it's getting very annoying to the point I think I need to go here in the forum for a solution.
I'm using a 32/3GB Global version, on MIUI 10.3.3 Global with Android 9.
My phone's RAM management is utter dud it feels like a 500MB RAM phone. When I open an app, say a game, and then go home and open another app, goodbye game. Or Chrome and Music. Music plays in the background for some time but then just stops. Feels like it's thinking of Music as an unnecessary app and decided to close it. These issues did not happen with my last update before this.
My RAM usage usually hovers at 1.7/3GB.
TL;DR, Xiaomi probably trying to implement a RAM management system that is far too effective it's not efficient. Basically bye-bye multitasking. Is there anything I could do to change this?
Wonder why no one replied? Am I the only one with this problem?

My RAM usage usually hovers at 1.7/3GB.
TL;DR, Xiaomi probably trying to implement a RAM management system that is far too effective it's not efficient. Basically bye-bye multitasking. Is there anything I could do to change this?

I think the management of RAM on the stock is very bad, in fact Xiaomi had to adapt it for the S2 as it has a 32 bit rom on a 64 bit Soc. I advise you to unlock the bootloader, install the Twrp and flashi the Lineage 16, and that's better.
Yeah, this is an known bug. I suggest you unlock bootloader and install the latest MIUI by Xiaomi.eu (currently, we are in 10.3.4), cause this problem was solved in there.

Xiaomi eu ROM works fine in 3/32 ? Because i read some people with bugs in this version, no in 4/64.
The 10.3.4 was removed after hours from download site of ota Xiaomi (because lot of bug) and actually say that is beta when i try to install it manually.
So the only way is go to eu ROM. Really, lot of bug global stock version to version.
Well, today i updated to 10.3.5 global (official web site) and look solved.
Attached screenshot of a lot of apps opens and no closed, and battery intelligent of Google is enabled.
Before update, whiteout any app in task list 1.5 free, now 1.6 or 1.7 sometimes.
Additional changelog:
Camera, faster shot and video 1080 60fps
Mode digital bienestar mode.
Dark mode.
Boot faster and unlock first time faster.

I've been having the same problem. After I updated to Global Stable MIUI 10.3.3.0 (PEFMIXM) I started having these issues where background apps just won't stay running. Tabs on Chrome keep reloading if I switch between them.
Can you confirm if the above solution by @nix.sasl works? @jalovitrue

Thanks @nix.sasl. I too can confirm that updating from 10.3.3.0 (PEFMIXM) to 10.3.5.0 (PEFMIXM) has fixed this issue. Finally this website was useful for once.

A tip more, if you have the launcher setting in 4x5 do notting but if you have in 5x5, back to 4x5 and look that the device allow more apps in background.

Which ROM are using? Bugs?
Hi, have you solved the problem? I suffer the same bugs in miui 11.
in miui 10 the phone worked perfectly for me.
I'm sorry for bad English.

Question MIUI keeps killing apps

Hello,
Not sure if it's the right place, but I'm getting depressed with my Xiaomi 12 behaviour. Since last update, MIUI global 13.2.4, the phone keeps killing apps, even if I set those with :
- not battery restriction
- auto startup
I tried a factory reset, I unlocked it, rooted it. It keeps killing apps. It's annoying, because I use Vivid and removed the navigation buttons. I let you imagine how I can be stuck sometimes when Vivid is killed. Yet, Vivid is locked... So MIUI regurlaty kills it, and sometimes, it even loses the accessibility autorisation.
How can I know what's killing it ? Obviousily, I'm not in Eco mode, and this behaviour also occurs in performance mode. Everything worked very fine until last update.

Maybe a bug in the rom which is a stable beta.
The ROM is official, it's been deployed in France last week.

And so, Xiaomi has been deploying beta roms on stable channels for a long time.

If it worked before this update, you have the answer.

OTA update for an entire country are with beta ? If so, this is a joke. How can I report this to Xiaomi ?

You are not the only one to have had problems following updates, the solution if it worked before, is to flash the previous rom or to use a Xiaomi EU rom.
Sometimes Xiaomi renames a Stable Beta to stable without fixing anything.

Previous ROM is in Android 12. Downgrading won't be a problem ? Keeps root ? EU Roms seem far behind.

Downgrading requires a clean flash and the root is lost along with your data.
Use this tool:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/flash-tool-guide-use-xiaomi-flash-tool.4262425/
And disable the update.
EDIT:
I use a Xiaomi EU rom on my 12 pro and I have several apps that must remain in the background, works very well.
With a Xiaomi EU rom you will have the certified play store without root and lots of extra options.
This is happening to me also and many other people. Fun times waking up to find that your alarm clock hasn't gone off because it was killed in the background.
There doesn't seem to be a workaround yet. There's several posts on the mi.com forums regarding it:
Xiaomi Community
new.c.mi.com
People there have discussed making a bug report via the feedback app (Settings->"Services & Feedback") might garner some support for Xiaomi to fix the issue... one can only hope.
All I can say is if you're thing of updating to V13.2.4.0.TLCEUXM OTA then DONT! Teach me to apply an update without checking on it first.

Go to this site if you need anything, the updates with beta roms on the stable channel do not date from today, many threads on this subject have been created without change since today the problem persists.
Reporting bugs via Services & Feedback hasn't changed anything either.
Note that since the redesign of their site, important threads have disappeared and even some devices.
As a reminder, it is the moderators of this site who report information, well that's just theory because in practice, nothing happens.
If you want answers from Xiaomi, tell them you want to buy a new phone because that's what they're interested in, selling.
I tell you this because at a certain time, I was active on this site, but some of my posts were deleted because I explained how to solve or work around the problem.
Sometimes by checking the hash of a beta rom and the following stable, it was the same.
The solution is to unlock the bootloader and downgrade or install a Xiaomi EU rom.

I'm kind of relieved that's I'm not the only one with this issue. For sure I dont take a xiaomi anymore. I had doubt about MIUI, and gesture unavailable with 3rd party launcher + this killing app bug, makes me regret not have taken a Samsung S22.
" I had doubt about MIUI, and gesture una aimable with 3rd party launcher"
Xiaomi blocks this function with third-party apps (not new).

Not new, but it's a detail you have trouble knowing before buying. With Vivid Gesture, I was plainly satisfied, but this new bug is really frustrating.
Regarding "Xiaomi EU rom", how well tested is it? Do they have an issue tracker and a list of known bugs?
I've rooted and flashed community ROMs in the past only to find out they are poorly tested / have horrible QA and although superficially they work fine other aspects didn't like Bluetooth, Android Auto or certain camera modes etc.
It has been a while though since I last attempted one, maybe things have moved on since then?
Xiaomi has removed so much of the Google framework that even push notifications isn't working. Take note that the Global ROM is based on the CN variant which is known for aggressive background killing of apps.
In Xiaomi's defense, they are "freeing up" up to 800mb of your internal storage by removing most of Google's API but in the expense of all the issues encountered by Global ROM users.
So if anyone is interested, I'm trying to see if disabling com.miui.powerkeeper works round this issue of background apps being killed in V13.2.4.0.TLCEUXM .
I followed this tutorial:
How to disable any pre-installed system app bloatware on Android without root
If you hate the bloatware or pre-installed apps on your Android smartphone, here's how to disable them even if Android doesn't normally let you.
www.xda-developers.com
Will report back if I notice any improvement.
Maybe someone more knowledgable might be able to tell me if there are any downside to disabling this package?
I am suffering the exact same problem with my device since the 13.2.4 update, what i nightmare to use the device since then ! As the other users already reported, it s even killing the alarm app which prevents it to ring ! But it also impacts all app notifications, like whatsapp, outlook, etc. After being killed I don't get the new notifications for those.
I can't believe that they are pushing such an update globally, they are gonna lose a lot of customers which such a poor strategy, as this is not just a "little" bug.
I am interested in the Xiaomi.EU rom, looks like they released one 2 days ago with version number 13.2.6, but I have to investigate if we can install that over our official version on an original EU device, and if it requires a full data wipe or not.

Welcome to XIAOMI.
You can check below the version of the rom proposed for the update, before performing it.
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/archive/miui/cupid/
EDIT:
You can either update the rom with the update.bat file included in the Fastboot.zip folder but since it is an A13 version, it is preferable to format the data with the first install.bat file .
Obviously the bootloader must be unlocked.
Also remove the security from the lock screen and restart the system.
Hello. I have exactly the same problem. I just bought the phone, after a week I got that update and it made me completely regret that I bought it. Is there any "clean" way to return to the version of MIUI I bought the phone with?
Would a reset return me to the old version? Since i got almost nothing important in the phone, it wouldnt be a big deal.
