[OnePlus 6] Automatic Photo rotation by stock camera app and vibrating device upon entering wrong unlock pattern - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Device:
ONEPLUS A6000
Android 11
Oxygen 11.1.1.1
Rooted yes
Hi!
I have two problems which i can't figure out in the device settings.
Googleing the problems didn't help either, but thats maybe just because i'm too stupid to search with the right terms.
First Problem:
When I take pictures with the stock camera app, the pictures are saved with a rotation in the gallery.
This almost only happens when photographing paper documents.
The picture is then saved with a 90° rotation.
E.g. i take a upright picture of a sheet of paper, but it gets saved in the gallery horizonally.
Is there any way to deactivate that?
Second problem:
When i enter the wrong unlock pattern, the device gives back a long vibration feedback. This was not the case with Android 10, must've come with the 11 Update. I find this to be annoying.
Also here, is there a way to deactivate this?
I hope you can understand what i mean, and i'd be very glad for some feedback.

[Q] Camera question

Hey, how's it going everyone? I am new to these forums, and I have attempted to do some searching around, but I have yet to find a true answer to this problem. So, I love my Samsung Infuse. I just got it roughly a week ago, and I am basically switching from my iPhone 4. An issue that I am having is that I want to be able to take pictures in portrait mode and landscape mode, but the camera doesn't seem to be designed to take pictures in portrait mode, as every picture I take like that, the picture always comes out at some 90 degree angle. Is there any way to really fix this, so that I can take pictures in both modes? Maybe a handy application that I haven't seen in the market? I just want to be able to turn the phone one way and take a picture, which I don't understand why it isn't implemented in the first place. If anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you!
I am not sure if this will help what you are trying to do or if you already tried it. There is a turnwheel kind of icon on 1 of the corners when the camera application is turned on.if you click that, there is a option for scene mode. if you click on that, you will get various options inside. 1 of them is portrait. hope this helps.
^ i dont think that is what the op means.
op you ar eright the previews dont detect the phones prientation, but they show correctly in the gallary so the phone is detecting the orientation. if they are 90deg off when pulled to the computer then it would seem there is a bug in the orientation, i havent tried copying to my computer, nor sure is there is an issue beyond the previews only displaying in landscape mode.

[Q] io6 like unlock to camera with pin lock screen?

hi all. quick question for you guys: is there anyway to get unlock to camera with the pin lock engaged on the Nexus S like the iOS implementation?
I have to say that iOS implementation of unlock to camera with pin lock is the best in business for the time being.
for those who haven't seen it: on the iOS implementation, when facing a pin locked screen, anyone can still unlock directly to camera and take photos. AND they can even browse the gallery but the gallery only allows access to the photos that are just taken (phone still locked).
it's even session based. the next time the phone locks again, the user can still unlock directly to camera and gallery like the last time, but the photos taken from the last session while the phone was still locked are now hidden and not shown. so each time the gallery only shows the photos the are just taken.
all photos, of course, are added to the gallery.
it's brilliant! is there any way to get something close to this on a custom ROM on a Nexus S?
Thanks, all! :good:
Yes, it's called android 4.2. Watch it in youtube its quite interesting

This did not show it working with Pin Lock Screen though (as requested by op)...
I did have the video on mute due to being at work and might have missed him saying that it also works with pin lock screen...
It does work with pin lock. Saw a review from a guy at Google. Looks awesome. You can add the camera to one of the widgets. You can take pictures and view the pictures you just took. Upon switching to sleep mode and on again you can't see the pictures you just took.

[Q] Camera closing when launched from lockscreen

I've had my S6 for a little over a week now and love it. I have enabled the fingerprint unlock and now occasionally when I launch the camera app from the lockscreen by double tapping the home button the camera app opens and about 30 seconds later closes and returns to the lockscreen.
I wasn't sure what was happening at first but later I noticed that I had an active notification on the lockscreen and it seemed like it was stealing "focus" from the camera. I haven't had a chance to really test this out to know for sure if that is the cause, but I can tell you that it's frustrating when it happens.
Has anyone else noticed this?
I observed the same issue. At first I thought it only happens if I take photos while recording, so I even created a dedicated thread, but with no response: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/camera-app-crashes-recording-video-t3110343
Then after some time I noticed it can also happen if I take photos without video recording. The camera app is simply closed and the lock screen appears. I happens so seldom that it is hard to say what are the conditions making it to happen. I thought it might be HW-related to auto-focus, so I got a replacement device one week ago. Unfortunately the same issue is visible. It happens very rarely, only if I run the camera app from the lockscreen by double tapping the home button. I don't know if it is related to fingerprint unlock, but I also make use of it. So it seems like a software issue and basically it kills the nice functionality of running the camera app by double tapping the home button. Once I started running the camera app after unlocking the device everything works just fine.

Bottom lens not focusing

I got my OP6 and installed whatsapp and I am now trying to activate web whatsapp which requires you to scan a QR code on a web page on your computer.. However the camera is not focusing and therefore recognising the QR code. If I try to take a picture in a whatsapp chat it shows a very clear picture.
I've added a screenshot of what this looks like. I tried pressing the screen, double tapping, rebooting etc. I use a custom ROM, Havoc.
By moving fingers over the two lenses I've figured out that whatsapp is using bottom of the two lenses present lens for finding QR code.
Is this a hardware problem? Or is there something else going on? Can I test this somehow? I am not sure how I can just test this one lens alone.
Thanks in advance for any help!
EDIT: I did read up on all the camera problem threads but it seems my problem is just with the lower lens hence this thread.
I just checked with a supermarket app that allows you to scan their items and here the scan camera focused quickly and perfectly.

The lower lense isn't for capturing images.

But if whatsapp forced the use of this lens on OP6 more people would have seen this issue? Can you try it perhaps. No need to scan, just activate the camera: open Whatsapp > three dots at top right > WhatsApp Web.
Thanks!

yes it is, open the camera and place your finger on the lower lense and you will see that no image can be captured. Upper lense is depth sensor also a camera with autofocus.
if you want to test the cameras dial *#*#1597#*#* and you can change wich of both cameras you want to use to take pics. (at least in oxygenOS, i dont know about other roms). to discard a hardware malfunction, propper way to test this is to install stock OOS, then dial that number and check if both cameras focus (point at a distant object and see if it is focused, then place your hand close to the camera and see if it can focus on it) and check if OIS work (activate the camera and move the phone and look at the camera if it moves with the phone or if it stabilizes correctly)

[HELP] Camera won't work after Android 11 Update + Possible Cause?

I was previously on android 10 i believe just a few days ago and my camera was working just fine. The other day I got a notification telling me to update to android 11...so i did and didn't think anything of it.
I use my camera alot for photography so this is very important to me, google camera or any app that uses your camera no longer works.
Example 1: As soon as I launch google camera it just crashes.
Example 2: Snapchat, instagram, or any other apps just give me the error like "snapchat was unable to open the camera".
I know a lot of people are getting this same issue because if you go to the play store and go to google camera app and sort reviews by recent tons of users are experiencing this.
I have two theories on what's causing this.
Theory 1: I've been using an app called "lens cap - disable camera" for over a year now just for peace of mind, I guess it used some sort of device administrator priveledges to block all apps from accessing the camera.
I believe I had the lens cap on (camera disabled) before and when I started updating to android 11 and I think that may have caused a weird break in permissions that somehow has me permanently unable to use the camera anymore.
The reason why this is something I suspect is because according to the developer of that app "android 11 removed most of the functionality of device administrator in favor of enterprise work profiles" (not sure what this means) but I think for some reason this caused it to get permanently blocked.
I have the github page for the apps source code if anyone can possibly look at it and see what exactly the app was changing in the first place because then maybe that way someone can possibly come up with a way to fix mine and many others cameras.
Edit: Apparently I'm not allowed to post links on a new account but the program can be found on github called LensCap by a user named percula
Theory 2: Android 11 just broke the camera by itself and the lens cap app maybe has nothing to do with it.
Ive already done all the obvious troubleshooting like resetting permission/preferences, restarting in safe mode, uninstalling and reinstalling camera apps + clearing cache and storage etc
Sorry of my formatting or grammar is sloppy at all I've had a long day and I just really want to get this working again
If none of your troubleshooting fixed the issue, I think the next option is to do a full reset (using recovery - not the selection in the settings menu). Another alternative is to flash the full factory image and allow it to factory reset the phone as well.
This will mean loosing all your app data and pictures, etc, so back up before you do it. But I am confident it will fix your issue, regardless of the actual cause.

So would you recommend doing "recovery" or "flashing"? Also how do I get to this "recovery" thing,
originally I was thinking about trying to downgrade back to android 10 but from what I remember the steps looked really confusing ;w;
Apparently a lot of people are getting this issue but in the end they said they had to try and RMA it, so I hope recovering or flashing fixes it, kinda worried this update actually permabricked something in my phone.
sorry if its a dumb question I don't know much about phone stuffs
thank you for your response.
There's definitely an issue with android 11 and the camera.
I didnt have any issues on the beta 2, 2.5, or 3. But upon installing the public, official version.. the camera fails. I've tried 2 factory resets. I've installed the ota.zip via adb sideload. And then did a complete format and install of the full image.
Here's what issue I'm having, personally:
When I open the gcam app, it freezes for about 15 seconds. Then I get the "not responding" screen. If I hit wait, about 15 second later, I get the camera on and it's images are on the screen. But it's so laggy that it's not even functional. For instance, If I try to zoom in, it's about 20 seconds until it actually does. Same for taking a picture. I have sent bug reports to them.
I'm gonna downgrade to a better/smoother version. Probably a custom android 10.
Like others, I use it24/7. The pixel 3a is an incredible camera. I hope it's fixed soon.
I don't even know where to post, I came here looking for a solution, but looks like there may be none, other than going back to Android 10 and never ever installing any kind of update on this phone.
I bought the 3a because of the camera, and because I was taking crappy quality pix of my toddler with my previous phone. A9 worked great, A10 worked great. Camera almost instant, switching from Camera, to Video to Portrait, no problem. Message that A11 is available, so hey why not, it's not IOS. Wrong. It totally screwed me, the camera takes from 1-8 seconds to start, to switch between modes. If I double click power when locked camera start (with delays), I then turn it off using power button, when I unlock the phone the camera app is open.
Sometimes when I open it a second time it stays on the setting I chose before (i.e. portrait, or video - not camera default - this would be a nice toggle in the options though - say if you always shoot portrait).
Portrait mode has reversed the picture order (left/right - blur/no blur).
I have missed many shots of my little one since I've upgraded because of this garbage update.
I have a lot of apps that aren't the "latest" version, that work as I need them to; can someone suggest an app that will let me back up my exact versions, then reinstall them after? I have no idea if such a backup/restore app could also save the app data; I don't have root
Also, if someone could point me to a post which shows the way to switch back to Android 10, step by step, I would appreciate it. If I need to reload all the apps and info, I might as well go back to a known working version.
I have also noticed that some other apps are acting funky now. A once rock stable and reliable phone, these days I just want to throw it straight down at the pavement with all my strength... often...
I have the same issue. Have you resolved it yet. My camera app is working but other app using camera gives error.i had also lenscap and problem arised after update to android 11
