Whatsapp changed directory starting from android 11. What happens to the old directory media files? - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
Whatsapp changed the media directory starting from android 11.
What happens to the old directory media files?
I see that they are still in the old directory.
Does whatsapp access both media directories in parallel?

[Q] Directory issue when accessing phone from W7

I'm running stock XNPH33R not rooted. I'm trying to access the Pocket Casts directory when plugged into a W7 computer. The highest level folder I can access from the computer is called "Internal storage". Oddly when browsing this directory on the phone using ES its called "sdcard".
Anyways it seems we can't browse / when plugged into W7 which is where the downloaded Pocket Casts files are. No problem I just changed the storage directory to "/sdcard/Podcasts" in the Pocket Casts app. When browsing this directory on the phone the files are there. However when browsing this directory (/Internal storage/Podcasts) on W7 I see no files. I reviewed the folder permissions which were fine.
What am I missing? TIA

You can't browse the system [ / ] in a windows file explorer. You can only read the sdcard, so you'll only get /sdcard/ sdcard contents.
However, if you really needed to browse the system level, you can use the adb shell with root and do a pull via command prompt.

Thanks for your reply. I moved the pocket casts directory to the sdcard level and ES file explorer shows the files in that directory but in windows file explorer shows that same directory as empty. In windows explorer I can view pictures and downloads but not any pocket cast files. Must be something to do with that app. Frustrating.

Hmm that is weird. The files aren't hidden? Meaning they start with a . You'd have to enable view hidden files in windows at that point.

DCIM directory rename?

Hi there
I wanted to know if i can change the name of the directory for where photos/videos I capture are saved? Renaming the file itself doesn't work as Android just creates a new "100ANDRO" file instead and continues to save new files there.
No you cannot, until you edit the camera application.
The app dsc-rename can move the pic's automaticly in another folder

Can't create .nomedia file, tried everything I could think of

I have a music library with a lot of album covers and I don't want them appearing in my gallery and stuff.
Tried creating a .nomedia file in the Music directory but it disappeared.
Tried it with windows explorer, adb shell, tried creating then renaming it.
Couldn't find a solution online either. Does anyone know of a way to create a .nomedia file?
I'm using an Android 12 GSI on Galaxy A71
Edit: it's not hidden, I ran "ls -la" and there are no files.
