Just got my ZFlip3 today and was wondering what's the best way to root it. OEM unlock isn't an option in my developer options but i can still get into download mode by holding volume buttons connected to USB. Total noob here, is there any hope for my us region phone?
Samsung has not supported unlocking the bootloader on US models since the Galaxy S7 if I remember correctly

No. The only way to unlock bootloaders from the US models in recent history has been a hacked, remote bootloader unlock that they're charging $150 for.
Edit: And the process isn't out for the flip or fold, to my knowledge.
I'm willing to bet Twistedumbrella simply doesn't have a US model.

How much? Although, it would be less of a bet than a donation knowing you've already lost. It was a Note 20 Ultra unlocked US model purchased from Samsung.

Then you're the only person in the country to get one. CONGRATS!
Needless to say, you're one out of a million people in the US who got it, and it's not available to anyone on the Flip3. You're just spreading false info. And honestly, until there's proof, I 100% don't believe you about your Note.
Edit: You know, you keep saying your phone had "OEM unlock" but you never actually said you unlocked the bootloader. You do realize that earlier Samsung phones had an OEM unlock option that just did nothing, correct?

It is just one more reason I wish I hadn't traded it in on this phone. I honestly didn't even know it wasn't supposed to be there until I got this one and it wasn't, but the glass also wasn't supposed to peel away from the panel. The guy who had to replace it said the same thing about being one in a million.
Don't worry. I wasn't going to hold you to the bet, even if I had a screenshot.

I call nonsense unless you got a non USA model with the Exynos SOC.
All USA phones have the snapdragon SOC and have for about 5 years.
The snapdragon version has no publicly known method to unlock the bootloader and it definitely doesn't have the button in dev mode.
I wouldn't mind you using screen record and making a video showing us that you have a snapdragon soc AND an unlock bootloader button.

It's hard to believe considering there seems to be no other case of a snapdragon edition having the option. Unlock carrier yes. Bootloader... No.
It just doesn't make sense that you would get a phone that was running the Exynos version of the firmware on a snapdragon device and the device still worked...

Couldn't tell you. Had it not been for the screen coming apart, I would probably still have it and not even know anything was unusual. The irony of being the one device I chose not to root.

It's certainly an interesting mystery. Id love to get my hands on it and try to figure out how it works in the hope that it would lead to a way to unlock the bootloader on current models.
Perhaps the setting is technically there but hidden by a flag and something happened on your device to flip that flag...
You certainly have me very curious despite my skepticism. I'm gonna go digging... I'm also going to start messaging eBay sellers in hope of finding another snapdragon device with the option available.
Then maybe we could enjoy root without the insane method that requires $150. Hell I'd settle for just having TWRP again.
Sorry I'm a little late to the conversation but here's your unlocked snapdragon. Google is your friend.

Yeah uhm... Plenty of people have spoken to our "friend" Google and haven't found anything.
2 screenshots? Screenshots can be faked. How about before you take a light jab at someone you actually prove them (and everyone else) wrong and post the actual method to unlock the bootloader and get root.
Don't worry we will wait... Of course we won't be holding out breath.
Search the Note 20 Ultra Forum. I don't have the actual method. All I can tell you is I have a Note 20 Ultra 5g from Google Fi, unlocked and rooted. I bought the phone from Google Fi locked. Yes I paid for it but so what, I got the device for half price on a promotion.
Does anything in my post history dictate that I would make some **** up like this? I don't need to impress anybody but spreading misinformation isn't cool. It's entirely possible to get a Snapdragon bootloader unlocked.
Edit: to say the first result is the service I used. Sampwnd

Maybe it was possible to get THAT phone's boot loader unlocked but it's not on any other USA Samsung phone.
Just look at the forums for every USA Samsung phone since the note 8 or 9. Nothing. If it were possible then there would be plenty of roms, kernels etc for USA phones.
So apparently the note 20 ultra fi version can be unlocked... But that doesn't help anyone else.

I have decided to leave this phone behind me. Sold it at full price and bought myself a Galaxy S7 Edge. I'll possibly be around still since my coworker is the one who bought it and he'll probably need help but this might be goodbye.
At this point I've tried all major flagships (besides that iCrap) and wasn't happy with the V10. Specifically T-Mobile/LGs support for the device with the bugs and all.

I don't think T-Mobile had a choice in it. I think it was all Samsung on the bootloader. I remember reading somewhere that Samsung was going to require locked bootloaders for all phones but it wasn't supposed to happen for a while yet. Guess Samsung went all Apple of people

Yup! That's exactly why this happened. However, the presence of the OEM Unlock option in the Developer Options screen hints at there being a way, just not a very obvious one.
We might have to resort to weird stuff like using send_command.exe with the LG G4 on Lollipop. Someone has to figure it out.
Looks like Mr.T-Mobile, John Legere, is all over trying to get the bootloader unlocked on the S7 and the S7 Edge. I told y'all it wasn't T-Mobile that wanted it locked.
I have the V10, and love it......I also love T-Mobile specifically because Legere is at the helm. The guy has done so much for T-MO users while CEO.....this is why i'm a T-Mobile customer for life (or Legere leaves). If they can unlock the bootloader then I may get the S7 Edge
and sell my V10.
Was curious if people thought this T-Mobile S7 would ever be able to run TWRP (looking to run Lineage).
I just bought this phone, and didn't realize the T-Mobile variant wouldn't work...
Should I wait a while, or go ahead and sell it? Wondering if there's any hope for this...
Thanks for any help.

Unless the bootloader ever gets unlocked there's no chance of getting TWRP or lineage. I wouldn't be overly optimistic of this ever happening.
yeah i figured, thanks for responding though. i already sold the phone (930T) and bought a 930F, which aside from "partial" 3G should be fully compatible with T-mobile (who needs 3G anyways these days?)

Yes, the Verizon Note 5 has band 2 enabled by default. If you would like to check which bands your phone is connecting to, I highly recommend the app "LTE Discovery" from the play store. The creators have done a great job of making it work well.

No problem! If you have any questions there are lots of people who would love to help. Unfortunately this forum has been dead-ish for the past month or so. What with one guy refusing to release the root exploit he "found" and others just trying to do a little customization that's currently beyond the control of the device, there's not much going on here. If you would like to get into rooting and romming I would suggest looking at phones that aren't locked to a carrier (like the unlocked HTC 10 although I didn't like it much or a Moto). Can't beat the Note 5 though!

That's what I had before the Note 5. It was decent to start out but was beyond painful to use in the end. The 32-bit snapdragon and 3GB ram really limit how long you can keep it on before it starts to get really sluggish. I will say though I miss the feel of my N6. It was just a nice shape and the stereo front-facing speakers were fantastic. Dangit now you've got me wanting one again as a backup phone >_<

Lol if I buy one it will make my 4th N6. I would love to have something other than a nexus 6. It limits me on what I can get because I'm on Verizon and that sucks. I could get the International s8+ and use it on AT&T I guess but I really don't wanna have to cancel my service with Verizon. If I can't root and BL unlock then I don't want it. Yeah if you're looking for something that you can unlock and root, we're talking s7 and newer. I wouldn't recommend the s7 just because the snapdragon 820/821 performance really isn't up to par with the Exynos in the Note 5. That leaves the S8/Note8. I think you'd have to look for one that came from Samsung or from a carrier that doesn't bootloader-lock their phones. I know Verizon does and I think AT&T does but I'm not sure. Exynos devices are going to be hit or miss, but imo are far superior (speed- and heat-wise).

It should be illegal for carriers to lock down a phone! I have another issue as most people. My budget is tight, about 200 bucks is my limit. Right now I'm using the Xiaomi Mi Mix 128gb and 4 gigs of ram. I had a lot of people tell me that the mix wouldn't work on Verizon in the US. I haven't had any issues using the mix. I get 4g everywhere I go. I like my mix but development isn't all that great, let's just say it could be a whole lot better. I have only had this device for about 6 months I like it but I want another phone, lol. I guess I could sale my MI mix and put that money with what I already have and buy a international note 8 or s8+ but then I'd have to switch carriers and I really don't wanna have to do that if I don't have to.

What's the best guide to root the G970U? I'm finding guides for the Exynos variant but not so much for this one. Have even read that it can't be rooted or it isn't supported so far :crying:
As far as I know, the Snapdragon variant is not rootable. From what I understand, there is no way to unlock the bootloader. Samsung has this one completely locked down.

I would not recommend it. The form factor and specs are all great, although the battery is a bit on the small side. It has automated power savings features, except you can't control those easily with Tasker (you can with Bixby, but most of its profile triggers are pretty limited). And the power savings features appear to mute Google navigation when the screen shuts off.
But after being on custom roms since basically the beginning, One UI has been a gigantic pain to learn where all the settings are (and getting around not being rooted to do things I like/need). I could go on and on.
I put off upgrading for years for a smaller phone with decent specs. This was about the only option for me. I'd definitely recommend the Exynos version, but that's a no-go if you're in the US.
Too bad. I was just thinking about upgrading from my XZ1 Compact and this phone otherwise seems perfect:
1. NORMAL size
2. Fingerprint sensor on the side
3. SD card
4. 3.5mm plug
I can't root Samsung Galaxy S10e Snapdragon.
I already unlocked oem lock, kg lock.
But I can't find the right twrp for beyond0q. (no lte)
The office twrp is only beyond0qlte. It is no usable.
I flash TWRP_G9700_3.3.1-9.tar success.
but I don't know why I install magisk failed.

Actually, G9700 (snapdraon) variant of s10e is unlockable, but it is ture that few custom roms are available...
I would like to root just so I can have control over my phone, but I guess those Android days are over here in the US. ?
And it's sad because this phone is almost perfect. Having the fingerprint reader on the back and giving it a normal power button would make it so. Every company out there is a churning out overpriced phablets with a load of junk we don't need nor care for.
I also currently use a Sony, an X Compact. It's getting rather long in the tooth, but still works well. I have gone ahead and ordered a Snapdragon s10e, as there is really no other current phone in that size category. Hopefully between Nova Launcher, Tasker and Automate I'll be able to set it up to my liking. To be honest, I'm most concerned about the unusual placement of the hardware buttons: try to adjust volume without activating the fp sensor, etc. But I imagine I can get used to handling it differently. @andTab

I have a terrible problem hitting the Bixby and Volume keys when I try to press the power button. I had to use a re-mapping function to disable single & long press on Bixby.
Maybe I'll start a thread. I've managed to figure out almost everything I like to do, finally, with Tasker. A few things I need AutoInput for (which is far from ideal, unless it's a task you can do late at night when you aren't using your phone).
The single task I couldn't do satisfactorily was custom charging limits to try to save battery since I charge my phone overnight. That can only be done with root! Although this could maybe be accomplished by toggling the USB connection from charging to file transfer. But obviously that's not an option with wireless charging.

Please do start a thread. Once I get my s10e I can contribute what I've been able to do using the few tools I'm familiar with.

Actually, G9700 (snapdraon) variant of s10e is unlockable, but it is ture that few custom roms are available...

Got a link for that guide? I dont care so much for having a custom rom flasher. I just want to root.
I have a G970U1. I have been trying to unlock the bootloader for several days with no joy. I can't get "OEM Unlocking" to appear in Developer Options. None of the procedures I've found online to make it appear have worked. Anybody here have any idea how to do it? Or, how to unlock the bootloader by any means?
Thanks!!

Ehh?? I'm rapidly approaching a conclusion that Samsung has succeeded in making the bootloader on the G970U1 unbreakable. I'm really hoping for someone to prove me wrong. Please?

This answer is kinda condescending and not helpful. I get it's a pain to explain the birds and bees all the time, but it's even more of a pain to browse hundreds of non-answers on XDA to find info.
@wseverin he's basically saying that the G970U/1 doesn't have an OEM switch in developer settings because it's not *factory unlockable*. Generally, only the EU, by forcing telecoms and Samsung through legislation, have phones with unlockable bootloaders.
Truth is, there IS a way to root the US version of the 10e. You can find various threads on XDA of people referring to Telegram channels where they'll charge you money to remotely root your phone.
They do this through either various hardware/software dongle bundles, or ENG firmware. The S7 / G930U was rooted with an ENG firmware flash - at the expense of battery life.
In this thread they talk specifically about using ENG firmware to unlock the bootloader of the G970U: https://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/f1...sm-g975-sm-g973-sm-g970-2570127/#post13639840
For US devices the only solution is by flashing an eng-boot + script if it exists for your particular device/version.

Whether or not that would work, I don't know. I've ordered a couple of S10e to test on. But I'm surprise that there hasn't been more work done to explore this solution on XDA. There used to be big bounties here to get root and bootloaders unlocked.

Thanks for these infos which haven't been shared on XDA yet.
IMO those with the knowledge to root the G970U think that they can make more profit by selling the rooting service for 100 or 200 $ per phone than to collect the bounty (although I think that they are wrong with this.)
I'm quite annoyed by the posts on XDA which advertise the paid rooting service (like "contact me per PM to get further infos"), although I can't really care as an Exynos user.
Has anyone found a way to root sm-g970U in 2021 for android 11? or its just not worth the effort
No, I just bought one used from amazon for 300 euros and they sent me a SM-G970U....now I have to send it back and ask for a refund and get a SM-970F somewhere (for similar price range ofc, I live in Italy)....i'm almost sorry, it looks new

Lol i know how you feel but dont because trust me if youre a root fan you arent gonna enjoy it tbh i sold mine like a few weeks after i got it and im just planning to get an Iphone and use it for the forseable future until i change my mind. If you love root dont buy the S or Note devices buy the j or A but if you dont like those i know because they are low end devices sometimes especially for a gamer..... so intead probably get a poco phone one of the newer ones with a snapdragon 860 or a xiaomi with flagship tier performance etc because i know xiaomi and google pixels there bootloaders can be opened and the warranty isnt voided permanently.... meaning once you unroot you get back warranty atleast thats what im sure ive noted.

I have not spoken with any tech support at all about this matter. I simply have been looking through everyone's post and I had came across the one where you put the special code in the dialer system. However, prior to that I had popped in my old SIM card from my pixel 4 that was already unlocked and then I did the check in. Went back to developer options and OEM was grayed out and said to connect to the internet. That was last night and obviously I put my new activated SIM back in since that time .Now today all of a sudden I get the notification that my device has been unlocked. I checked my T-Mobile app and indeed it said that my device is unlocked and ready for any compatible network.
I would also like to add that I did do the temporary unlock as well before I got the message . Not sure if that part was before or after I swapped SIM and did the dialer method. And yes I know that that wouldn't have done anything either by itself but maybe that also helped possibly fool the system into thinking I was already unlocked idk but thats it honestly. Could be luck but I wish you all luck at the same time !
I have pics for proof including the 800 I still owe on it.
you lucky dog there is another guy that did that aswell. i had to go to extreme lengths. to get it sorta done

tmobile unlock app (pixel only) is the app you need to temp unlock the phone. if your goal is oem unlock, that requires permanent

I believe it does nothing but "check in" with a server to verify your connected to the internet

Okay I see what your saying I'm actually gonna do some more reading into that but I do know forsure it does exactly that check in to verify a connection to the internet and I assume by pinging googles server. The success notification is saying it got the ping back, meaning it's on the internet. Where the confusion I think your at is coming from is that the OEM unlock switch requires the internet purely to check if your phone can be unlocked or not (grayed out oem switch or not), so if it didn't instantly become available it is not going going to. When the device is fully paid off the switch, at least for t-mobile, will become available. But I appreciate you digging that up I have seen the title to that thread I just have never looked at it, knowing I'm more than likely **** out of luck, for now. New phone coming soon. I hope this makes sense

It's okay I went out of my way to do it lol and as for the phone then idk wtf happened something happened somewhere and at some point it ended up with me having it fully unlocked with $800 still left to pay .about to get a laptop soon to finally root. But on the T-Mobile app it says fully unlocked idk I'm happy. But now the 8 is coming out soon I have Jump! Upgrade so I can do it but I'm so cheap I held out for 4 years with my 4 non pro lmao
I have made some decent money this year so I swap around from my 7 pro, s22 ultra, and OnePlus 10 pro. I think I may trade in one for the 8 I just can't decide between getting rid of the 22 or the one plus. I'm leaning towards getting rid of the Samsung.
