Can I get some advice please
I got a basic android headunit years ago and not long after it became very laggy even with basic factory settings so i dint want it to happen again?
Looking to get at least a 4gb+64gb version
The main concern is reliability for as long as possible (as i understand as android updates certain units become obsolete)
But mainly DSP Quality and highest power RCA output for the amplifiers
Plus android auto and apple carplay for phone calls and GPS maps
It will be used in a weekend cruiser car with a old school set up of 2x12" subs and 2 sets of splits with 2 x descent RCA input style amplifiers
These are the models i have come across but not sure if or which one is best choice or should i consider something else?

Android Stick for Car PC - Recommendations

Hi all,
I'm building a car PC of sorts using an Android stick and a 6.5" resistive touchscreen. I was using an MK908ii running the standard ROM and although there was plenty of bloatware, it worked quite well. Unfortunately I've managed to brick it and it won't turn on or connect to my laptop. I originally was going to use a nexus 7 because of all the support but the tablet is too big to fit in the centre console of my Mini. The 6.5" touchscreen is a straight swap for the standard sat nav.
So I need a replacement. The MK908ii was the first stick I bought and originally I was just going to use it as a TV input so I thought I'd ask for recommendations from people who know better than I do.
Basic needs:
Android - mainly for the apps - using co-pilot for GPS, Google play for music, YouTube, and emulators for games
Quick start up
Fast loading in general
Custom start up animation would be nice
Ability to permanently mount USB inputs rather than reload on each startup (GPS dongle, USB storage etc)
It uses a custom background with desktop Visualizer to open the apps and tasker controlled what apps were visible/openable depending on WiFi state. The system was controlled by touchscreen until I killed the stick yesterday
Any help in regards to what stick to buy and what ROM to run would be much appreciated!
When I get to 10 posts or whenever then I'll whack up some pics and a video but at the moment I can't!
Adam
Why not one of the newer Android touch screen head units? They seem to be better than the first versions. It would save lots of work. Just load your ROM and install the head unit.

It's going in a 2004 Mini replacing the sat nav screen which is where the giant centre speedo in normal cars are. The space there isn't big enough for a double din unit or even a nexus 7 tablet.
It's also not possible to replace the single din unit with a double din unit unless you have auto climate control which I don't.
I would post up pics to make it all more obvious but apparently I need 10 posts first
Bump!
Anyone? Would like to order a new stick asap
Hey Adam,
Welcome to XDA! If looking to use an Android HDMI Stick would recommend the MK903v for performance and reliability. Mine boots in under 20 seconds and works very well with my touchscreen Pioneer. Take a look at this thread for more info and ideas as there are many options available: http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...oid-sticks-t2833303/post61520159#post61520159
Thanks for this! I'll give it a read.
The MK903v is only £40 on gearbest. Is there much bloatware on it? Is there a ROM that works best for it?
Think I finally have enough posts for some pics and a video!
Standard nav unit

New touch screen replacement
It uses a custom background with desktop Visualizer to open the apps and tasker controlled what apps were visible/openable depending on WiFi state. The system was controlled by touchscreen until I killed the stick
Background when connected to WiFi
Background when not connected to WiFi
And a quick video when I was testing this indoors before the touchscreen adapter turned up
Hey Adam that's screen replacement looks great no regarding the MK903v there isn't much bloatware on it at all. Mine came with an older version of XBMC preinstalled but that app and a few others were easy to replace

Unit checks all the boxes but is it a good buy

I need some help with my first Android radio buy, so i ask my question here.
Want to buy this Fongent PX6 (RK3399) 4GB/64GB universal 2 DIN unit, Its got everything i want including all the connections i need.
Its was not my first pick, as i was looking for one of the more common mentioned units that i fount after my primarily research, but this unit got all that i need and is reasonable cheap, and got 5x USB, a plus but not a must, if there are reasons i should not get this unit.
These are all the parts i wane buy for the build, maybe there are some comments on the parts i picked.

And these are the units connections.
The questions i am left with after 2 weekends research:
Do you have normally root access to these units, at minimum wane install a firewall, but a upgrade path would be nice.
Can you install different ROMs?
Unit comes with a Toyota cable set, are these standard connections for all normal Toyota models. (Have a Avensis 2007 / model type T25)
Can i keep using the controls on the wheel, or do i need a extra box?
Can you record 2 USB DVR streams at the same time on the unit? (would be nice extra)
Are the USB DAB+ dongles similar in quality, or is it, you get what you pay for.
Lots of questions, but Android car is not your standard PnP drop in unit.
Any questions people can help me with would be appreciated, greetings Michael

Flash unknown device help please?

Hi,
Please be gentle with me as this is my first post.I have in my posession an amount of consumer 'tv dongle/boxes' which after endless searching I've found very little information on:
Flame Media, Kodi Box, Mini Android Media Player, 6cm x 6cm x 1cm, FM987: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo
Free delivery and returns on eligible orders. Buy Flame Media, Kodi Box, Mini Android Media Player, 6cm x 6cm x 1cm, FM987 at Amazon UK.

It appears that it was released a few years back by Innokin and sold through Amazon as an Android tv gaming device and was sold with a bluetooth controller, I've connected a generic one and not suprisingly after attaching to wifi it states that thier servers no longer exist.
It sports a micro-usb port, HDMI and USB.
From what i can see it appears to have been re-sold (re-purposed) some while later by an unknown seller as a media device 'capable of sideloading apk's and comes with Kodi installed'
quote from Amazon ' Powerful mini media player running Android 4.2 and supporting a wide range of popular media services including Kodi, Netflix, iPlayer and others *It is equipped with Bluetooth, WiFi and RF as well as a quad core processor with world class streaming capabilities *It comes with a browser loaded, allowing you to stream from any number of sites directly on to your TV *Sold with a remote control unit with air mouse for easy navigation and text entry *Dimension: 6cm x 6cm x 1cm '
I'd be interested to try to repurpose this device myself but my knowledge is limited to flashing phones and building pc's in the 90's and so I know i have a lot to learn but would like to use this as an opportunity to do so.
The fact that somebody has already flashed some rom onto these tells me that it's probably possible but i wouldn't know where to start and so wondered if anybody could at least point me in the right direction please?
I'd be happy to send one of these 'gadgets' to somebody that was prepared to help me re-purpose it. I only have 3 of them so obviously i can't send them out to all interested parties.
I'm trying to figure out its architecture so that i could possibly find a way of flashing an early android rom onto it but so far the only information i have is that it's sporting an unknown quad core Mediatek processor, possibly has 1 gb of DDR3 Ram and 8gb Rom but that's only from snippets of info I've collected.
Could anyone please help me to bring this little thing back to life? Thank you in advance.

Question Is this joying unit any good?

Hey all. I’m new to the world of Joying & Android headunit.

Will this Joying fit and is it compatible with the car’s factory JBL system?
This unit is available on both eBay & the official Joying site. In case if something goes wrong & I want a refund, which one of the two should I purchase it from?
Not MTCB, requested mod moves to (Android Head-Units) forum.
Ive been using the non JBL version in my Tacoma for months, and it is great. Fast interface, steering wheel buttons all work, and easy to install with their wire harness.
I think that is joying's ebay account so you can order from either and get their warranty.
Cheers for the reply. Are there any bugs or hiccups from your experiences with the unit?
Also both wifi & Carplay works just fine?
No issues, they just updated for support for Wireless Android Auto, and it already supports wired & wireless carplay but I don't have any experience with it.

FYT are playing catch up with their AA and car play support.
As soon as FYT stop updating these units will be bust for this support as non-genuine

Scan the square barcode with a scanner app and it should give you the text with the application the canbus decoder was planned for. I tried scanning your photo but no result, it should work on the actual decoder. Note that the application may read odd, the box that works in my Subaru is a Toyota canbus decoder but Subaru does use a lot of Toyota software as a partnership.
Also is the harness you got a Kuga harness or one for the Kia.

i got one for sorento and one for kuga, and another canbus box for kuga.
After scanning qr code i got " Model: HY-SS-06/RP1-HY-002For:2010-2020 Hyundai & Kia Vehicles With Digital Amplifier "
But when i connect the canbus bos on the 16 pin connector, display turns off...
Does your Kia have a digital amplifier, if not then you have the wrong canbus decoder and possibly the Kia harness is wrong as well too (only the seller would know that but they tend not to know technical details).
If your Kia has the digital amplifier, you used the Kia harness and Canbus then only the seller can help.
