New pixel 4aDE - Google Pixel 4a Questions & Answers

Hello to all guys.
I just bought my new pixel 4a last day.
I living in Greece, my network show me LTE and no 4G. I know that LTE technology is like 4G. I will have any problem with my internet connection? Or quality speaking in my calls?
Can I flash any other firmware to change the internet bands?
Or I can't do anything about this !

If you get LTE, then you should be fine.

I check the map of all LTE country's and Greece is inside of this country's.
So yeah I believe that's is fine.
Ty for responding to my thread.

China OPO in Canada (Toronto)

Hi all, it's been a while since I was last on XDA.
I recently received a One Plus One in Hong Kong and I am unable to tell if I got the China or the International Version.
I do not receive LTE in uptown Toronto but I do get LTE in downtown. This leads me to suspect this is a China device as it doesn't support band 7 lte.
I am currently using Virgin Mobile (Bell network) and I think Bell uses Band 4 and 7 LTE (Please correct if I am wrong).
Is there anyway I can tweak the phone software wise to enable LTE on the network? it really bothers me sometimes when I can't load a page instantly and instead have to wait for a good 8-10 seconds.
Thank you and happy holidays!
There's one very easy way to tell which version you have, the international version has Cyanogen branding on the back and the Chinese version doesn't.

Unfortunately, mine doesn't have the cm branding on it
Is there a way to enable those lte bands still?

It is IMPOSSIBLE that you get LTE on the Chinese version of the phone, you can't get it in downtown and not in uptown... You have it or you don't

That's really weird, I have the LTE signal in downtown but not uptown!
When I was using the HTC One, I was able to get LTE both down and uptown too!
Bump, thanks.

NOTE: I am on Rogers Wireless.
I get LTE in Markham, Richmond Hill (A lot of H+, little LTE rates compared to downtown), Mississauga (Also a little, but a lot of H+) and Downtown (97% LTE rates)

Flash the latest 44S or 38R modems. Get out of the stock ColorOS modem.

This is false information, they are both the same device. The modem just needs to be flashed out of the stock ColorOS modem.

I understand, I was confused before when I had 25R modem installed, I didn't get LTE much, and I switched between G, H and H+ when I was riding the GO Train.
There's no difference between the China and International models, except the Cyanogen branding. Just need to get out of ColorOS modem.
I can confirm this as I have a Black China Model OnePlus One, and the Limited Edition OnePlus One Bamboo (which is only available in China). I'm from Hong Kong too so I handed over 4 OnePlus Ones to my friends in Toronto, from Hong Kong.
That is very good news to me. I will search a bit regarding that modem.
Thank you!

Good luck man, hope you get better signal!
Just fyi, when I ran ColorOS modem, I got worse signal than CM11 modems, but no modem is the best, you should try a few from this thread:

You can see a chart to see the difference between the modem versions, as they all report the same values in About Phone.

[Q] 920i vs 920f?

So does anyone know the difference between these two models? I live in the US using straight talk on AT&T's network. From what I can tell, they both should work, but I am not sure if there is any difference I should be aware of before buying the phone.

How does it work in areas where LTE is not available, i.e. on 3G and HSPA networks? I live in an area where half my day is spent on the fringe of LTE service and the other half in.

Well just like US carrier phones, you'll get LTE signal when you get LTE signal and you'll fall to HSPA+ or 3g when that is the signal you get.

My G920I does on AT&T. I've seen it go all the way down to EDGE because I have really bad signal at my house.
I can also confirm that the 920i works fine on AT&T. I have seen it go from Edge to LTE and everything in between.

O2 Germany LTE reception

Hello guys, I moved to Germany a while ago. Yesterday I went ahead and signed a contract by o2. Little did I know that I won't receive any LTE signal. I live in Chemnitz in Sachsen. I checked the bands and some of them, the ones in or around the centre at least, should give me LTE signal. The most I get is H+ though.
Any ideas how to solve this?

I live in germany too and with Simyo (uses E-Plus network) I get LTE but only in big citys in the area I live. I've read somewhere that with O2 you won't get LTE in germany, but I'll ask a friend of mine who has also an 1+1 and an O2 contract.
Edit: He doesn't have LTE and he sayed that's the reason because the 1+1 doesn't have "Band 20"

Looks like big chunks of the LTE on O2 .de is on band 20 LTE which the oneplus does not support nor can be made to support.
Thanks guys, we'll that's a bummer to be honest. Is there a way to cancel the contract?

I think you should just go there and ask, because about 1 month ago O2 and E-Plus decided that users with either O2 or E-Plus can use both networks so maybe you are lucky...
Oh that would be super cool, thanks a bunch! I will let you know how I ended up
Well it seems that no dice after all. Sadly. It's like you said, I can use both networks and it's happening automatically. What I can't wrap my head around is this though :I used to have Blau. De. Now that's a small provider and I had only a prepaid card. Funny thing is that I had lte reception with this provider almost everywhere in the city, half the signal, but still AND this provider uses the SAME network as o2. So what the hell can I do now, since basically I'm in the same network but I can no longer have lte.

I googled a little bit and they just sayed what we already know, with O2 you'll not have LTE very often, with T-Mobile only in CItys and with Vodafone often in Citycenters, only E-Plus doesn't use the Band which is not supported by our device... And blau .de uses the E-Plus network(just checked it on google) so this is why you have LTE with their prepaid card.
Well I guess I have to live with H+ now. That's only fitting, because I was too stupid and lazy to check it beforehand. Suits me well. Thanks a bunch for your help though, I really appreciate it

Well I'm not downloading anything on cellular data. The problem is that Hspda sucks battery like hell compared to lte.
1+1 doesnt support 800mhz LTE this is used in Germany for wide ranges! In citys there is a higher frequency that 1+1 supports for high speed LTE

T-mobile LTE in the US

I bought a z5 premium knowing it atleast supports 4g on T-mobile in the USA. Does anyone know if I can get LTE, or a radio I can flash to take advantage of LTE?
I did search and see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/z5-hand-tmo-t3218674/page1
TMO user claims LTE but I have my APN settings in and I do not see LTE, only 4G. I'm not sure what to do next
4G == LTE, you are running an international firmware (likely UK) where LTE is branded as such. If you want LTE to show, then flash another, I recommend the CE5, which you can find somewhere around here..

If you have the Z5 premium though, may want to head to the section for the Z5 premium, to ensure you get the right firmware.

T-Mobile should show LTE. Go into your settings > more > internet settings (download settings for internet and MMS) and it should pull up the right APNs and show LTE. My AT&T and T-Mobile both show LTE.

Where did you buy your phone? If you bought it in the UK/EU, did you flash anything new to it? Phones bought there should show 4G for LTE regardness of APN and other settings because those regions don't differentiate between the two (there wasn't that "3.5G as 4G" marketing push in those regions).

Hmm this is interesting. I bought mine from Amazon so I'm not sure how to tell which region it came from. It shipped from China. I did not root or flash anything yet.
I also have a Z5 on T-Mobile (phone came from Taiwan). I am ON LTE, but the phone shows 4G as expected. This is totally normal as others have said.
Same here I bought my Z5 on amazon it came from HK, phone shows 4g, but when running speedstest I get over 30mbps download, you can also install the LTE Discovery APP, mine shows that I am always connected to LTE band 4 mostly, sometimes it switches to LTE Band 2 or 12

LTE = 4G in other areas the world. US Telecom screwed with the term,s since they termed HSDPA/+ as 4G, when it was 3.5G. So they had to resort to using LTE instead of 4G like the rest of the world.
That's why on international phones you see H/+ = HSDPA (meaning it's on 4G if US phones), and when it actually shows 4G, it's on LTE.

No, I understand the nomenclature. I'm saying its weird that some phones are showing 4G and some are showing LTE in the US. The Z5 is not officially released here in the US so I'm wondering where the firmware difference lies from the international versions.
It doesn't matter where you are geographically. It's down to the customization of the software the device is running and there are several. I have a Z5 that is branded Vodafone from Germany and it shows 4G. Normal for Sony phones. If a user is particular about what icon shows for LTE, any European, UK, Baltic, Mediterranean etc. will show 4G. Any North, Central or South American firmware will show LTE.

My box/phone was unbranded and when booted showed chinese/HK as primary language but shows LTE as shown above.
Again, it is a condition of customization. Possibly there are Asian variants that use LTE in lieu of 4G. Check customization in the service menu. I have had almost every Xperia since the X1 eight years ago, prior to LTE being available. This question/discussion comes up in every forum. In my opinion, the notification symbol does not matter as long as the data speeds are there.

I don't think you're understanding my curiosity. I know that its related to the customization and the firmware and/or branding based on the carrier. I don't care about the speeds either since I am getting LTE speeds. What I am curious about is why it does show because it was a Chinese market phone which per my knowledge usually shows 4G. Most markets show 4G, I want to know why mine shows LTE.

Exynos in the US?

T-Mobile has to certify and allow the phone to work on band 12 or else it won't be able to make 911 calls. They've verified the US S7 but I don't think they verified the international version.

it's frustrating that others have said recently that band 12 is NOT supported. what about wifi calling?
Hi there !
I belive that WIFI calling and the reduced Internet speed while on a phone call, are the two things that are different on the Exynos. Tell me how to check and make sure WiFi doea not work and I will try for you. I have tested the second one, and indeed the Internet speed is way reduced when talking on phone. Depending where you are, it is either H+ or 3G.
Hope that helps !

i believe there should be a setting for wifi calling within the "more connection settings". if it's not showing within the settings, then it's not supported.
as for band 12, how reliable is that app you used? a lot of people have mentioned that band 12 is not supported on the exynos model, so i'm really curious how yours has it.
thanks!
OK, there is no WiFi calling setting under there.
As for how reliable the App is, I have no idea, sorry. I searched and found it was mentioned in XDA for checking this kind of settings/capabilities. I will take a screen capture of it once I am in a building and it is showing the band used. My understanding is that LTE Band 12 is particularly good and improves signal inside buildings.

The Internattional version does support band 12. and it works, however for VoLTE you have to find a firmware that has it which is hard. the Czech t-mobile firmware has VoLTE but no WiFi calling
The "F" international version also has Band 17 for AT&T
why do people who DON'T have the phone act like they know what they are talking about.
Works fine on T-Mo, and ATT. you just miss out on some of the bands, and also carrier features like VoLTE.
my 930F works fine on Tmo. and it'll work fine on ATT as well.
