China OPO in Canada (Toronto) - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, it's been a while since I was last on XDA.
I recently received a One Plus One in Hong Kong and I am unable to tell if I got the China or the International Version.
I do not receive LTE in uptown Toronto but I do get LTE in downtown. This leads me to suspect this is a China device as it doesn't support band 7 lte.
I am currently using Virgin Mobile (Bell network) and I think Bell uses Band 4 and 7 LTE (Please correct if I am wrong).
Is there anyway I can tweak the phone software wise to enable LTE on the network? it really bothers me sometimes when I can't load a page instantly and instead have to wait for a good 8-10 seconds.
Thank you and happy holidays!

There's one very easy way to tell which version you have, the international version has Cyanogen branding on the back and the Chinese version doesn't.

Unfortunately, mine doesn't have the cm branding on it
Is there a way to enable those lte bands still?

It is IMPOSSIBLE that you get LTE on the Chinese version of the phone, you can't get it in downtown and not in uptown... You have it or you don't

That's really weird, I have the LTE signal in downtown but not uptown!
When I was using the HTC One, I was able to get LTE both down and uptown too!

Bump, thanks.

NOTE: I am on Rogers Wireless.
I get LTE in Markham, Richmond Hill (A lot of H+, little LTE rates compared to downtown), Mississauga (Also a little, but a lot of H+) and Downtown (97% LTE rates)

Flash the latest 44S or 38R modems. Get out of the stock ColorOS modem.

This is false information, they are both the same device. The modem just needs to be flashed out of the stock ColorOS modem.

I understand, I was confused before when I had 25R modem installed, I didn't get LTE much, and I switched between G, H and H+ when I was riding the GO Train.
There's no difference between the China and International models, except the Cyanogen branding. Just need to get out of ColorOS modem.
I can confirm this as I have a Black China Model OnePlus One, and the Limited Edition OnePlus One Bamboo (which is only available in China). I'm from Hong Kong too so I handed over 4 OnePlus Ones to my friends in Toronto, from Hong Kong.

That is very good news to me. I will search a bit regarding that modem.
Thank you!

Good luck man, hope you get better signal!
Just fyi, when I ran ColorOS modem, I got worse signal than CM11 modems, but no modem is the best, you should try a few from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/ref-oneplus-one-modem-collection-t2858734
You can see a chart to see the difference between the modem versions, as they all report the same values in About Phone.

Moto G on AIO question

We switched from Sprint to AIO. I got the Nexus 5 and the wife got a Moto G. My wife is getting around 2 mbps down at best and it says 3g. I'm concerned it's just normal HSPA and not HSPA+. Is there a way to tell which it's on? For the record, when I turn LTE off on my nexus, I hit the data cap of 3.5-4 mbps on HSPA+.
Settings>About Phone>Status>Mobile Network Type
Sent from my XT1034 using Tapatalk
Depending on which model you purchased, your Moto G may or may not support HSPA or HSPA+. If you purchase the unlocked USA GSM model, it does have HSPA+. If you bought the global model, it's strictly 3G only.

.... thats a bunch of misinformation. All the models have HSPA+. The US models only show 3G on screen even when connected to HSPA+ (if you dont believe me there are several ways to check). With AIO either of the US models or the international models will work just fine (as it runs on ATT's network) the only time you really need to worry about network compatibility is if you are buying the phone to run on T-Mobile as you will need the US model instead of the Global model.

no worries. There seems to be a ton of confusion out there about this phone and which model to use. Motorola should add a chart or something on their site to clear it all up.
Just checked mine there now hspa+ and downloads of between 3.5 and 5 Mbps in my house ,other days I can get up to 9 Mbps,UK stock ROM rooted on giffgaff network,Posted screenshots of speeds that I get in my bathroom which are usually poor compared to rest of house

Mi4 in europe

I just ordered my black Mi4 today and will hopefully switch from my z1c in a few days. Are there other users within europe to share knowledge with? Since 3g and 4g networks differ from the network bands used in the USA, it might be a good idea to get connected.
Of course, i'm still interested in sharing knowhow with everyone else of you too when it comes to non-network-related issues.

interesting. Didn't know that. But it seems like a trustworthy reseller anyways, as i read tons of positive remarks about them. But let's just see when (and how) my device arrives.

great! As France and Germany use the same frequency bands, everything should be fine then. I read a few complains about bad/no reception, but it seems like this wouldn't be a general problem after all.
No problem of reception at all. I get even better signal than my old S4 Mini, and better sound quality too.
whats best place to buy the mi4? just a reference is ok no need for full url..

FDD LTE Band 20
The international version of the Mi4 is available today.
But there is no official support for FDD LTE 800 MHz (Band 20)
Maybe it comes out next year or we can get with a firmware update ?
FDD-LTE model is not available yet, you have to wait.

Nobody has reported success in unlocking bands on different model, likely hardware issue/impossible.

I do not think that this will happen with the MI4, just more in a new model like "MI5". In Germany you can use this Band 20 with t-mobile in some areas. You can not fix this problem with an simple software update, its more linked to the hardware conditions. But you can put me right
so i got my Mi4 yesterday. 2G/3G seem to work perfectly fine.
The only thing i'm still not quite sure about is localization. I currently use .12.12 dev-Edition. Seems like giving root-Access right out of MIUI is not available in stable editions. But sadly, the localized versions (in my case: german ) seem to lack behind. Not a big deal as i'm perfectly fine using english terms in my OS, but i wonder if there is any way to tell 3rd party apps (facebook etc.) that they should use foreign languages. Any ideas?
[edit] woohoo! This one did the trick: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evanhe.locale
All 3rd party apps, that have any localization built in, now show up in german language

T-mobile LTE in the US

I bought a z5 premium knowing it atleast supports 4g on T-mobile in the USA. Does anyone know if I can get LTE, or a radio I can flash to take advantage of LTE?
I did search and see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-z5/general/z5-hand-tmo-t3218674/page1
TMO user claims LTE but I have my APN settings in and I do not see LTE, only 4G. I'm not sure what to do next
4G == LTE, you are running an international firmware (likely UK) where LTE is branded as such. If you want LTE to show, then flash another, I recommend the CE5, which you can find somewhere around here..

Ah, fantastic. I was hoping it was something simple like that. Thank you.
If you have the Z5 premium though, may want to head to the section for the Z5 premium, to ensure you get the right firmware.

T-Mobile should show LTE. Go into your settings > more > internet settings (download settings for internet and MMS) and it should pull up the right APNs and show LTE. My AT&T and T-Mobile both show LTE.

Where did you buy your phone? If you bought it in the UK/EU, did you flash anything new to it? Phones bought there should show 4G for LTE regardness of APN and other settings because those regions don't differentiate between the two (there wasn't that "3.5G as 4G" marketing push in those regions).

Hmm this is interesting. I bought mine from Amazon so I'm not sure how to tell which region it came from. It shipped from China. I did not root or flash anything yet.
I also have a Z5 on T-Mobile (phone came from Taiwan). I am ON LTE, but the phone shows 4G as expected. This is totally normal as others have said.
Same here I bought my Z5 on amazon it came from HK, phone shows 4g, but when running speedstest I get over 30mbps download, you can also install the LTE Discovery APP, mine shows that I am always connected to LTE band 4 mostly, sometimes it switches to LTE Band 2 or 12

LTE = 4G in other areas the world. US Telecom screwed with the term,s since they termed HSDPA/+ as 4G, when it was 3.5G. So they had to resort to using LTE instead of 4G like the rest of the world.
That's why on international phones you see H/+ = HSDPA (meaning it's on 4G if US phones), and when it actually shows 4G, it's on LTE.

Are you on TMo US? I haven't seen my phone switch to band 12 yet, despite being in a band 12 area and getting relatively bad (~1 bar) band 4 service at my desk (which is next to a window lol) at work.

No, I understand the nomenclature. I'm saying its weird that some phones are showing 4G and some are showing LTE in the US. The Z5 is not officially released here in the US so I'm wondering where the firmware difference lies from the international versions.
It doesn't matter where you are geographically. It's down to the customization of the software the device is running and there are several. I have a Z5 that is branded Vodafone from Germany and it shows 4G. Normal for Sony phones. If a user is particular about what icon shows for LTE, any European, UK, Baltic, Mediterranean etc. will show 4G. Any North, Central or South American firmware will show LTE.

My box/phone was unbranded and when booted showed chinese/HK as primary language but shows LTE as shown above.
Again, it is a condition of customization. Possibly there are Asian variants that use LTE in lieu of 4G. Check customization in the service menu. I have had almost every Xperia since the X1 eight years ago, prior to LTE being available. This question/discussion comes up in every forum. In my opinion, the notification symbol does not matter as long as the data speeds are there.

I don't think you're understanding my curiosity. I know that its related to the customization and the firmware and/or branding based on the carrier. I don't care about the speeds either since I am getting LTE speeds. What I am curious about is why it does show because it was a Chinese market phone which per my knowledge usually shows 4G. Most markets show 4G, I want to know why mine shows LTE.

FRD-L04 European band support

Hi all, I ordered a 32 GB Pearl White (presumably FRD-L04) on Amazon's Black Friday sale, I live in the UK, had it shipped to a friend in the US. According to hihonor, the phone should support all the US and UK bands. According to FrequencyCheck, only the 64GB (FRD-L14) US model supports the European bands 3 and 20. Which is correct? If the phone I ordered won't support 3 and 20, I may as well return it now.
Thanks!
I also bought Honor 8. Only difference is that US version is single sim and much more LTE bands. According to official site it should support that bands.
I finded here specifications for all versions: http://www.smartphonerankings.com/huawei-honor-8-frd-l04/

Yes, I believe FrequencyCheck is wrong, but it claims the European bands 3 and 20 are only supported in FRD-L14 (the 64 GB version) and not in FRD-L04. Hopefully this is untrue.

That's why I'm asking the 2 people who commented in this thread, they live in the UK and can tell me for sure.
Here you go here is a list for radio bands compatibility list for Honor FDR04 /14 /01 AND 14 for use in UK with most of the providers..
www.frequencycheck.com/compatibility/K0BOsOx/huawei-honor-8-dual-sim-lte-a-frd-l04/united-kingdom
You can select any country by the way.. If I were you op for Virgin mobile or Plusnet both run off EE but have better signal and deals to the overs..
I bought the FRD-L09 model while I was overseas and I live in the USA, the salesperson assured me it would work on 4G here but it definitely doesn't... If you still have the FRD-L04 model would you be willing to trade? Mine is the blue 32G model and it is basically new, I bought it about a month ago. I love the phone but only having 3G is killing me...

Thanks for this, but as someone stated above, I think Frequency Check is wrong here. According to Huawei Customer Care team on Amazon, the supports bands 3, 7, and 20 which are used for LTE in the UK, while Frequency Check doesn't have those.
I have posted a picture of both Huawei's listed network frequencies compared to Frequency Check's.
I never even knew that Honor released a single SIM variant of the Honor 8. I thought all Honor 8's were dual SIMs.
I can confirm Frequency check is wrong. I'm not back in the UK yet but I'm getting LTE on SoftBank in Japan. A warning - this model follows the American practice of calling 3G "4G". Only "4G LTE" actually means 4G.

I think it's because not every country use every bands so Honor indicates only bands used for specific country.
I make an example: Band 20 could be used in USA but not in UK so indicates on UK version it have Band 20 is useless for UK's people

I just bought my new pixel 4a last day.
I living in Greece, my network show me LTE and no 4G. I know that LTE technology is like 4G. I will have any problem with my internet connection? Or quality speaking in my calls?
Can I flash any other firmware to change the internet bands?
Or I can't do anything about this !
