Hi,
This is a subject that came up while discussing something else in another post, but it's important to me so I hope posting it here will be helpful both for me and others.
Many times, apps that are available in the Market state that they are uncompatibale with kindle Fire. When I got the apk file from another source, I was able to install it on my rooted KF with no problems whatsoever.
I don't know why this happens, but I understood (from the other thread) that the device's ID cand be changed so that the Market thinks it's a different device and will let me download and install the app.
How can I do that? I have the original KF without any ROM changed, only rooted.
If someone could post directions as to how this could be done (newbie level, please...) it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Yossi

Thank you.
It seems the solution in the thread only works on nonstock Kindle Fire.
I haven't changed the rom on KF and don't really want to do that unless I have no choice.
Is there another way?

You could try sideloading your apps but I recommend rooting or installing a ROM based off stock like MoDaCo.

The problem with the default Kindle ROM is that the bar at the bottom is oversized like two times compared to the default Android one. A lot of apps are perfectly fine on the Kindle, but there are some that get cut off because of that bar. So because of that, they simply don't mark it as compatible. If we had a fullscreen option globally, it wouldn't be a problem.

I tried this, gave up and installed Gede's ICS.
Every time I tried to download & install an app with Google Play It would crash. I tried uninstalling, installing from KFU, fixing permisions with the TW recovery and still would crash.
The other issue with using the stock kindle and root is your Build.prop may prevent you from getting many things that you may want to run that the kindle may be capable of running but can't due to restrictions set by the dev.
I've seen a lot of people asking for this, and since I just stumbled on it last night, I thought this might be my chance to give back to this community that has helped me out so many times. It turns out such a version of MyScript Notes Mobile does exist, and my preliminary testing indicates that it'll likely work with any ROM you throw it at, including Koshu's CM ROM, which I'm currently using. I had the idea last night that since so many devs are intent on taking apps from one device and porting them to another, why not take one of the ports and try to run it on our version of CM and see if it worked? They'd have to remove the check that has been giving us so much trouble and resulting in the error message preventing us from running the app, right?
Sure enough, eventually I found a version that seems to work great...it was meant as a port for the Galaxy Note, but you install it on our TPT and it works just as you'd expect. You don't even have to copy anything to your /system folder or mess with permissions...just install the .apk the way you normally would. I've been testing the 1.1.24 version on Koshu's CM ROM with no issues so far.

So, 44 views in one day...has anyone else tried it? Did it work for you? I've been using it for 3 days now with no crashes, no force closes, nothing on Koshu's CM10 ROM, and I'm sure people would love to see other reports!
I gave it an install and a quick try. It seemed to work and actually recognized my crappy handwriting!

Worked great for me on CM10 w/ 1.1.24. Had to manually extract the apk & libs to the appropriate directories. Installing zip from CWM failed
It works for me on CM10 8.1. I just installed the apk and nothing else and it works fine. So times it's a little laggy but I'm glad to have thiis back on my TPT. Thank you of this .
That's what I was saying earlier...it worked for me installing the .apk from inside the ROM (not having to flash anything with CWM) and doing nothing else! Glad it's working for you guys! I had seen tons of people ask about this over the course of my time here messing with my TPT, but had never seen anyone post a solution. Good to know it's still helpful for a few out of the 192 ( !) that have viewed this thread.
works great, additionaly I have installed some language packs for Mobile Notes to Use German, US- and UK- english.
they are in the attachments!

I couldn't find any apk file there. All files were zip. In the forum page it had written you have to flash your mobile. I don't even know what that means. I previously have installed this with an apk but that app after install gave error that "this version of notes mobile is not compatible with my device". is there any device check removed version of this apk of this app which installs without flashing or rooting? I need it for galaxy tab 2 10.1...android jelly bean or ics official version

Okay when you hear the word "flash" on XDA or any other Android development community it usually means you have to have a custom recovery and root permission of the device. An .apk is the actually file that is known to be the main part of an App. Now as for the "device check removed version" I have no idea, you would have to look around more for something that doesn't have that message. The reason that keeps coming up is, this App was originally written for the Lenovo TPT and then was ported to the Samsung Galaxy Note series, both which have a touch-screen and stylus input. So for a device(s) that doesn't have that Android system may be looking for a couple lines of code and is not seeing them so it give an error message. I hope this helps.
Does anyone have this working on Koshu's 0.91? When I attempt to install the apk the install fails....
exactly the same problem. not working on Koshu`s 0.91

I've tried the NotesMobile-GTN7000-1.1.24..zip
1) Download
2) Unpack
3) Put it on a SD-Card
4) Use something like total commander
5) Make sure you can install unsafe software on your device
6) install the notesmobile_len-oem.apk you found in /NotesMobile-GTN7000-1.1.24/system/app
7) have fun
For me everything works fine on a TPT 32GB with Android 4.1.2. Export, Writing, handwriting ...

You can download and install the installation tool here. After installing, you can choose to install the modded version or the original version of Google Play Store. http://www.apkmania.co/2013/01/google-play-installer-v107-by-chelpus.html
I think flashing the latest Google Apps zip will fix your problem.

you should have "focal" as your camera app, but you can also just flash a stock ROM that has root so everything is back to its familiar setup and apps.

Hi guys, i have exactly the same problem. I have a 3110 and i decided to move from cm 10.1.3 to cm11. I performed the data wipe/factory reset with the latest version of twrp, installed the rom, installed the gapps package and everything seems to work fine except for the camera. There is no app at the drawer, i can not install google camera from the playstore, and the apps that i installed either in apk or zip form do not work. Some crash, camera zoom fx doesnt have the option to take picture and some other apps throw an error message about "can not find the hardware camera" and staff like this. Can someone help me plz?

then it must be an issue in the ROM itself.
either a bad download or an bug in the system.
inquire in the specific rom thread to address the problem and if you have time Google "log cat android" and make a log when you try to open the app.

@tokenpoke its indeed a bug in the system, camera is broken at cm 11atm, you need to apply a fix. The solution can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53381666&postcount=2909 , thnx goes to @webdroidmt for pointing that out.

Thank you bro, will try to use a different ROM to test it out again.
i have tried the thread stated in this forum where i also found many having such issues, but the remedy just didn't work out for me.
I guess i will have to re-root it again.
thank you once again:angel:

no need to reroot if you've installed a custom recovery.
most ROMs are already rooted and there is an option when booting your system from recovery that injects root into nonrooted roms

I can't click on the Install button when trying to install an APK. The screen acknowledges the touch, but the button doesn't do anything. But when I rotate the phone to Landscape, it works fine.

Anyone have any ideas? Let me know.
Stock CM11S and Root.
It's a bug. Happens to me using Mahdi rom as well. Most likely cm related. Just stick to the workaround for now, would probably help if you made a post on jira.cyanogenmod.org so cm can look into it.
