how do you get market apps that are unavailable to KF - Kindle Fire Themes and Apps

Hi,
This is a subject that came up while discussing something else in another post, but it's important to me so I hope posting it here will be helpful both for me and others.
Many times, apps that are available in the Market state that they are uncompatibale with kindle Fire. When I got the apk file from another source, I was able to install it on my rooted KF with no problems whatsoever.
I don't know why this happens, but I understood (from the other thread) that the device's ID cand be changed so that the Market thinks it's a different device and will let me download and install the app.
How can I do that? I have the original KF without any ROM changed, only rooted.
If someone could post directions as to how this could be done (newbie level, please...) it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Yossi

Thank you.
It seems the solution in the thread only works on nonstock Kindle Fire.
I haven't changed the rom on KF and don't really want to do that unless I have no choice.
Is there another way?

You could try sideloading your apps but I recommend rooting or installing a ROM based off stock like MoDaCo.

The problem with the default Kindle ROM is that the bar at the bottom is oversized like two times compared to the default Android one. A lot of apps are perfectly fine on the Kindle, but there are some that get cut off because of that bar. So because of that, they simply don't mark it as compatible. If we had a fullscreen option globally, it wouldn't be a problem.

I tried this, gave up and installed Gede's ICS.
Every time I tried to download & install an app with Google Play It would crash. I tried uninstalling, installing from KFU, fixing permisions with the TW recovery and still would crash.
The other issue with using the stock kindle and root is your Build.prop may prevent you from getting many things that you may want to run that the kindle may be capable of running but can't due to restrictions set by the dev.

i know for darkslide there is a version and im not sure if it will work with other roms ,also the market has been updated and we are waiting for the devs to roll out a new version of black market to be compatible with the new market update but if your market has not been updated make a backup and try at your risk
here is a link to the file
Updated Black Market (2.2.11) Download
http://www.mydroidfiles.com/downloads/Black_Themed_Market.zip
also i take no credit for this ,,,,its all the darkslide devs work
Do you know or any zip that works for just any rom. Im running a custom rom, not Liberty, Fission, or Darkslide?
if you are using liberty rom there are themes that have black themed markets
Like I said, I'm not running Liberty, but the Darkslide zip is working so thanks

I can confirm this works on liberty 1.5. I flashed it in recovery and it is working fine. Thanks!

You can also find 38 versions of the curent market version 2.3.2 at the link http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-themes/19422-download-market-themes-38-different-themes.html I am just passing it on as an option for you if you did not know of these. They were originally done by 00.ante for the Samsung Galaxy and then Wugfresh got them working for the Droid X. See the thread for any information. I am running one of the Neon Ones now..

Good morning, maybe it is something unique to Liberty. My Droid X is currently on Darkslide 4.2 and have not had any force closes at all and my market is still themed without any interruptions. I have procesed plenty of updates since installing this themed market so I think it has to be ROM or phone specific because I and some others I know of have not had any issues with these themed markets. Glad you got it all working as expected again because as with all changes what works for some may not work for others....

Droid Life Is So Sweet
The FC's some of you have encountered can be attributed to the fact that you were originally using market version 2.3.3 prior to flashing one of the zips, or... you unintentionally updated to it:
The themed market's I repackaged are for version 2.3.2 ONLY
Solution Procedure:
Freeze marketupdater.apk with TiBackup or change the name to marketupdater.apk.bak with root explorer [/system/app]
Goto Settings > Applications > All > Vending.apk > Uninstall Updates
Now retry flashing one of the zips I repackaged.
Please let me know if these steps resolve your issues.
Alternatively I can repackage the zips to:
Automatically delete Vending.apk all together
Then replace it with the themed Vending.apk
Automatically delete marketupdater.apk
Then replace it with marketupdater.apk.bak
...just let me know if you are cool with all that and I can do it.

[Q] paulburton ICS port

So great to see another update with many bug fixes, I notice one of them is better suspend outcome, in your known issues post you state:
"Sometimes wakes from suspend by itself (usually when suspending via the screen timeout)"
Does shutting off the screen manually still result in it occasionally waking too ?
Also Wifi, does that break no matter how it suspends, manually or timeout ?
Cheers
Yes and yes to both questions

I'm impressed with this build, the setup is smoother, the gApps work for the most part, i am tinkering with SD card mount currently to see if I can fix it

Have you tried to reinstall the app on ICS yet? Alot of the apps that I have on HC usually run on ICS. I'm not sure if that particular one will install though. You may have to run it through a deodex, and try to install it via adb.
Did you find the workaround for the Wifi glitch stable?

up and running no problem, booted back into recovery fine, everything seems smooth. quite happy to run with this as i only use my tf for creating sigs and browsing the web / listening to music. Trying to find a screen capture app that works on this so i can show it off but the one i used took a capture and instead of the rom build details i got a recovery type screen but the writting was in green. kinda cool but obviously of no use lol
only question for me is: can future ics based roms just be flashed via recovery as normal?
i can jump back to h/c based roms from ics on my sgs2 via recovery no problems but im aware of hardware differences etc.
all apps from titanium backup running fine for me.

If you are already at ICS then yes, unless Paul or whomever decides that it's better to wipe first. Just remember, the TF doesn't flash the kernel (luna, spelling-- he he he) so you have to flash it separately to get back to HC. Otherwise a good nandroid should work just fine to return.

im wondering....since the xoom and galaxy tab both share many features as the tf101, and the xoom and gtab both have stable cm9 builds... would we be able to "steal" some parts from those roms and make a port or something?

[Q] Why do some roms auto restore apps and others dont?

When i was on GB or Froyo i remember every time i restored a rom either stock or custom, as soon as i logged into my google account my apps auto restored.
Now on ICS i see some custom roms do this and others do not and none of the stock roms do.
why is this?
its such as nice feature and it seems like something that is available from google itself and that some rom devs just enable it or disable it.
does anyone have any insight?
Also i downloaded Titanium Free version and i can not find Batch operations anywhere. did they change it to where you have to buy pro version to get batch operations now?
You have to check or uncheck it before signing in. If you download an app first it overrides the restore.
As far as titanium, I dunno. I support the devs and buy apps.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
no what I mean is some roms as soon as you sign in and choose yes to google backup service, the device starts downloading all of your apps from google play store automatically which is awesome.
most roms dont do that and none of the stock roms have done this since Froyo and SOME GB ones.
this must be some type of hidden default setting that some devs arent enabling by default in their roms which i cant understand why they wouldn't do it.
Before I sign in I uncheck auto sync and all that so the apps don't restore automatically. So I guess I wouldn't know which roms it happens or doesn't happen on.

yea i think ive noticed it on CM9 builds as well.
i just dont understand why even stock builds in Froyo and some GB had this enabled by default but no Stock ICS does it and very limited and hit or miss 3rd party ICS roms do it.
it makes it so much easier when flashing roms when you sign in and all of your apps from the playstore just start downloading.
I am interested in whether or not this has been addressed further? Is there a way to enable auto restore for roms? If so then how? Btw happy new year and thank you to everyone who helps to keep this community going from contributors to devs, themers, and testers. It has been a tremendous help to me time and time again. [Q][CM9] Apps becoming incompatible?

Anyone else find that after updating to any of the new CM9 nightlies some apps became 'not compatible with your device'?
Specifically tinychat which I was using on this device before... I updated from #28-30 with no results, so I decided to reflash alpha 4 which I'm positive I had the app running on, but still no dice =\
Currently on UCLE2 ICS CM9-6/30-Nightly with CWMtouch-5.8
Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and I can only really ask if perhaps a few other people could simply go to tinychat.com on their device and see if it says whether your device (non-rogers please) is compatible or not. Thank you very much! Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

MyScript Notes Mobile For Any ROM!

I've seen a lot of people asking for this, and since I just stumbled on it last night, I thought this might be my chance to give back to this community that has helped me out so many times. It turns out such a version of MyScript Notes Mobile does exist, and my preliminary testing indicates that it'll likely work with any ROM you throw it at, including Koshu's CM ROM, which I'm currently using. I had the idea last night that since so many devs are intent on taking apps from one device and porting them to another, why not take one of the ports and try to run it on our version of CM and see if it worked? They'd have to remove the check that has been giving us so much trouble and resulting in the error message preventing us from running the app, right?
Sure enough, eventually I found a version that seems to work great...it was meant as a port for the Galaxy Note, but you install it on our TPT and it works just as you'd expect. You don't even have to copy anything to your /system folder or mess with permissions...just install the .apk the way you normally would. I've been testing the 1.1.24 version on Koshu's CM ROM with no issues so far.

I gave it an install and a quick try. It seemed to work and actually recognized my crappy handwriting!

It works for me on CM10 8.1. I just installed the apk and nothing else and it works fine. So times it's a little laggy but I'm glad to have thiis back on my TPT. Thank you of this .
That's what I was saying earlier...it worked for me installing the .apk from inside the ROM (not having to flash anything with CWM) and doing nothing else! Glad it's working for you guys! I had seen tons of people ask about this over the course of my time here messing with my TPT, but had never seen anyone post a solution. Okay when you hear the word "flash" on XDA or any other Android development community it usually means you have to have a custom recovery and root permission of the device. An .apk is the actually file that is known to be the main part of an App. Now as for the "device check removed version" I have no idea, you would have to look around more for something that doesn't have that message. The reason that keeps coming up is, this App was originally written for the Lenovo TPT and then was ported to the Samsung Galaxy Note series, both which have a touch-screen and stylus input. So for a device(s) that doesn't have that Android system may be looking for a couple lines of code and is not seeing them so it give an error message. I hope this helps.

There are language packs but no app avilable and it is not listed in Samsung Apps.
It works on the Galaxy Note 10.1 but I am trying to get it to work on a Galaxy Note 2. Has anyone been able to do this.
When I run the apk it installs but then every time I run it I get Unfortunatlely Notes Mobile has stopped working.
Can someone post the Portuguese language pack? Thanks
