[Q] CF auto-root wiped phone with unlocked bootloader

Ok not sure what i did wrong I phone OTA updated to 4.4.3 and i lost root but my boot loader was still unlocked so i reran auto root it cleared my phone.. (very anonying) My phone was encrypted i expected it to prompt me for password but it did't (also i had changed password so it was different from pin code.) was there anyway to avoid the wipe for next time?
Don't use cf-auto root. Just flash a recovery via fastboot (if recovery was replaced by the OTA) then flash a SuperSU.zip to root it.
I'm fact, if you use Philz recovery instead of CWM, You can root directly from the menus without flashing anything

[Q] update on 32gb LTE unit

So I did the lollipop upgrade got root and unlocked my bootloader but I think I used the wifi build to update with but it works fine. However my tablet says there is a new update out and I know it will kill root and recovery but will it matter since I unlocked the bootloader? Update has been sitting there for awhile because I keep putting it off.
If your bootloader is unlocked you can flash any recovery (Cwm, philz or TWRP) via fastboot and then use it to flash supersu zip file from it.
An unlocked bootloader lets you flash unsupported firmware; e.g., another bootloader, custom kernel, recovery or ROM. Don't worry about updating, but expect to have to reflash recovery and re-root the device after pulling down an OTA.

How do I pull a recovery backup with tethered TWRP 3?

Hi
On a device is a stock recovery, I can get into tethered TWRP 3.
How do I pull a backup of the stock recovery with TWRP and how do I backup it?
Bootloader is locked, I have to unlock it to install TWRP as recovery.
Is the recovery updateable to another stock recovery with locked bootloader?

Will recovery flash wipe my phone?

Hi and merry Christmas
I do rooting for years, but never separated process of unlocking bootloader and flashing custom recovery. All guides speak about that phone will be wiped.
My bootloader is unlocked, but I am back on stock recovery. Will my phone be wiped when I flash custom recovery?
TIA!

Flashing of custom recovery needs unlocked bootloader. Unlocking of bootloader wipes your data. As you said your bootloader is already unlocked. Then you can flash custom recovery without worry of data loss.
Just flashed recovery via adb fastbook and installed supersu. All good, all data there

Unlocked Bootloader, S Off but Cannot Install TWRP

I'm running the stock at&t ROM with Android 6. I've successfully unlocked the Bootloader, and have taken S Off (paid SunShine!)
When I boot into Recovery Mode I cannot install from SD without getting a Signature Error. When I attempt to flash TWRP via ADB/Fastboot the bootloader will freeze at prompting the Recovery Mode (only way to overcome is to reflash stock rom).
Any ideas? Was hoping to install LineageOS as I read at&t won't be issuing an OTA for HTC as they've discontinued offering the brand.
Set download mode. Then flash twrp with fastboot command. Fastboot flash recovery twrp.img Should workout just fine.
Nope. Read initial post. After flashing handset hangs when Recovery Mode is selected

Perhaps its the version of TWRP you are trying to install? Maybe you might have to try an older version since your on 6.0....?
Also, I have the same AT&T device (unlocked bootloader, but S-ON) and am curious about installing custom bootloader/ROM on this device.
Let us know if/when your able to solve it!
So, I downloaded the Windroid Toolkit at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2499926 but now I can't get passed the HTC boot screen. I installed Lineage OS, did Wipe Dalvik Cache, then installed Gapps. But no desktop after install. HELP!
