Need some assistance understanding how rooting, bootloader unlocking, ROM flashing. I came from the Samsung Fascinate (i500) where there was no bootloader to my knowledge, flashing ROMs with ODIN or CWM was straight forward.
Out from box I used the following method outlined from PhoneRebel (http://phonerebel.com/how-to-root-a...-4-1-1-verizonattsprintt-mobilei9300-version/) to root and then unknowingly assumed that this process also unlocked the bootloader for flashing various ROMs (I was wrong). Next I installed goomanager and flashed TWRP Recovery. Following booting into recovery and performing a backup, then while in Recovery mode attempted to install CleanROM7.
As what appeared to be a normal install using Aroma, the phone then rebooted and the infamous triangle appeared. Guess I "tripped" because the bootloader was still locked, or better yet I did not know that flashing (VRBMB1_Bootchain.tar.md5) was a relocked bootloader! The phone was now soft-bricked without the ability to get to a lock screen or enter Recovery Mode. Download Mode was still possible.
Since I had the ability to ODIN, I then followed Hero's method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1840030) for unbricking. I'm back to where I think I was following my first root. The phone is running Verizon TW stock 4.1.2 rooted, Android Recovery, and not unlocked.
I am looking to flash Scott's (scrosler's) CleanROM 7 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1832070) or any other ROM.
Specifically what are the steps that I need to follow which allows me to install other ROMs? Do I ODIN an unlocked bootloader (VRALEC.bootchain.tar.md5), ODIN TWRP, reset counter using Triangle Away, reboot into Recovery and install new ROM? Do I need to lock the bootloader following the ROM installation? Do I need to Triangle Away to reset the counter each time I want to install a different ROM, or is it once I install a new/custom ROM, I do not need to worry about the bootloader?

this should work

after you root, unlock the bootloader and havea c ustom recovery installed you can flash zip files like youre probably used to.
good luck
Triangle Away is only for those looking to return the phone to their carrier. Also you MUST have an unlocked bootloader to flash custom ROMs. So to recap once you unlock the bootloader you can start flashing to your heart's content.
Ok not sure what i did wrong I phone OTA updated to 4.4.3 and i lost root but my boot loader was still unlocked so i reran auto root it cleared my phone.. (very anonying) My phone was encrypted i expected it to prompt me for password but it did't (also i had changed password so it was different from pin code.) was there anyway to avoid the wipe for next time?
Don't use cf-auto root. Just flash a recovery via fastboot (if recovery was replaced by the OTA) then flash a SuperSU.zip to root it.
I'm fact, if you use Philz recovery instead of CWM, You can root directly from the menus without flashing anything

First of all, sorry for my bad english!
Well, I started to look for some good custom roms for my galaxy s6. I was using the xtrestolite deodexed 2.4, and then I changed to Arrow Rom. Then, the developers of xtrestolite updated their rom to android 6.0
But now, idk why, when I try to flash any rom with twrp, I get no errors, but the phone doesn't boot up. Only with I install the stock rom with odin. I tried updating the modem to a android 6.0 version (the xtrestolite thread told me to do so), i dont know with this can help, I'm kinda new in this custom rom things.
So, summarizing, I can flash custom roms with twrp without errors, but the system get stuck at the logo, sometimes without the red alert (recovery not SEandroid enforcing). And then, at this point, I can only shut it down and go to twrp or download mode.
you need to follow the recommend steps exactly. upgrade both bootloader and modem for your device. Then do a date factory reset before flashing the rom.
these steps will install the proper files to avoid boot loops. the reset will make sure there are no strays files left.
The thread says to install the bootloader and modem for android 6.0, then install twrp, and then do a factory reset to flash the rom. But how do I flash the modem and bootloader? I know I have to flash the boot loader under the BL button on odin, and the modem under the CP button. But when I flash them, my phone automatically start to boot loop. And at this point, I can't enter twrp anymore, just download mode. I'm using currently the stock 5.1.1 rom for galaxy s6 (g920i) rooted with a custom kernel (unikernel v2 0008), and with the twrp recovery 3.0.0.1 . What are the steps to flash the custom rom? And why I need to flash boot loader and modem for this rom? I never had to do this to any other custom rom!
once you have flashed the bootloader and modem, you need to reflash twrp. as new bootloader and modem have broken the connectionfactory reset
After resestablishing twrp, boot into twrp and do a factory reset. Then install the ROM
The reason you need to do all this because 6.0.1 has been given a major redesign including touchwiz. The previous roms you have flashed only has been upgraded from 5.0.2.
Ok, so can I put them all together in odin, (bootloader in
BL, twrp in AP, and modem in CP), and then flash it? Or I have to flash them separately and uncheck the auto restart in odin? Because when I flash just the bootloader, it get boot loop when restarting.
Ok, once I flash just the boot loader via odin, and my phone restarts, I get stuck at the logo, not even a boot loop. Then, if I shut it down, i can't enter twrp, only download mode. Even if I flash TWRP again, I can't manage to enter it. So, at this point, I always have to flash the stock g920i rom with android 5.1.1, to turn it back on, and then flash TWRP.
Does someone know how to proceed?
you need to flash boot loader and modem together. make sure your phone is fully charged.
then flash twrp, then boot into recovery without starting the phone.
do a factory rest without flashing the rom. flashing bootloader modem and twrp should not be causing a bootloop.
then start the phone let it settle down and see if the 5.1.1. rom works with the upgraded bootloader, modem and twrp.
load the rom onto your hard drive, then reboot into twrp and install the rom.
try this the first time as a dirty install, if that does not work. I suggest you do a full erase and start from the very begining.
Thanks! I'll try this.. I'm kinda busy this week so I'll do it in the mext weekend! I tell you if I made it work the soon as possible.. thx for replying!
Sorry for taking so long to answer this post!
I want to ask you, if I flash the stock marshmallow rom in my galaxy s6 g920i, can I flash the XtreStoLite marshmallow rom, without flashing the bootloader and modem? Or I have to flash the marshmallow bootloader and modem for the custom rom anyways? Sorry for bad english
Ok so, I flashed the stock g920i marshmallow rom, and my modem and bootloader are EPC6 and EPC3. In the topic of the deodexed XtreStoLite custom rom, it says to download and flash the modem and bootloader for marshmallow 6.0.1, but I'm already running this version. BUT I have the EPC6 bootloader and in the topic, I can download the EPC7. Is it there any difference? Or can I flash the custom rom without flashing this EPC7 bootloader?
And, btw sorry for being such a noob, but can you explain me what are the bootloader and modem functions?
Thx for all!!
I'm running the stock at&t ROM with Android 6. I've successfully unlocked the Bootloader, and have taken S Off (paid SunShine!)
When I boot into Recovery Mode I cannot install from SD without getting a Signature Error. When I attempt to flash TWRP via ADB/Fastboot the bootloader will freeze at prompting the Recovery Mode (only way to overcome is to reflash stock rom).
Any ideas? Was hoping to install LineageOS as I read at&t won't be issuing an OTA for HTC as they've discontinued offering the brand.
Set download mode. Then flash twrp with fastboot command. Fastboot flash recovery twrp.img Should workout just fine.
Nope. Read initial post. After flashing handset hangs when Recovery Mode is selected

Perhaps its the version of TWRP you are trying to install? Maybe you might have to try an older version since your on 6.0....?
Also, I have the same AT&T device (unlocked bootloader, but S-ON) and am curious about installing custom bootloader/ROM on this device.
Let us know if/when your able to solve it!
So, I downloaded the Windroid Toolkit at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2499926 but now I can't get passed the HTC boot screen. I installed Lineage OS, did Wipe Dalvik Cache, then installed Gapps. But no desktop after install. HELP!
Hello there,
Recently I wanted root on my J3, but then after unlocking bootloader and installing TWRP via Odin, I keep having these messages pop up telling me these apps stopped working.
Now I know if I just lock the bootloader, it will brick the device (from my research).
I now want to get rid of TWRP, and install stock recovery, then lock the bootloader.
Thanks,
Cody
you can flash stock rom. it will be fine probably
