Google pixel 4a forgot pin - Google Pixel 4a Questions & Answers

I just got the new phone yesterday or 2 days ago, just went through the intial step and set the phone. For whatever reason my usual pin did't work when I tried the phone again today, (probably shouldn't do this while I am half a sleep).
Is there anyway I can reset the pin somehow? Or am I completely screwed? (Just realized how annoying it can be if you forgot the password or pin.)
Note: Already tried, hard reset, pin still there...
And no Google account binded yet.
(Edit: wonder if I should just return and said it's broken lol)

Well, since you used your "usual" pin, you might be in luck...
The phone asks you to enter the pin a second time to confirm when you set it up. So luckily you repeated your "mistake" for both times.
Since you were half a sleep, I'll bet you just one of the digits is wrong and the other three are correct. And the digit that is wrong is probably because your finger wandered a little too much when entering it.
So, try a few variations of your usual code, but each time tap a number key that is physically near to the correct number on the keypad.
For example, lets say your usual code is "4567".
First try modifying just the first number....
So, try "1567", then "2567", then "5567" then "7567" (the 1, 2, 5, 7 keys are near the "4" key)
Then try variations of just the second number, and so on.

Annoying startup "problem"

When I turn on my device (TP) it ALWAYS asks me to align the screen and to config the calender and time, and also it asks me if I want to put a lock on it. (However the startup video does NOT show)
This is really annoying! Because I hade soft resetting or turning of the device, because I know I need to do that align and configs again!
I've hard reseted my device once, and before I hard resetted my phone, it wasn't like this! Is there a way to turn this of?
Just out of intrest, do you loose any data when you startup. Examples are other Windows settings, contacts, messages, history etc?
sorry, double post
Just to be clear, are you properly aligning the screen? I had to talk a geeky mate of mine through the process. He was briefly tapping the screen and the cursor wasn't moving around the screen as it should. I had to explain that you have to keep the stylus pressed gently on the screen over the little cross until it moves to the next position. Repeat at each position.
Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs.
Uhmm, No I don't loose any data (settings or anything)
Also, yes I align the screen correctly I guess. I do it just as you tell me
But it's like, when you first got the phone, You first installed the WM (I don't) Then you align the screen (This I have to do) Then it asks you to tell it what time it is (This I also got to do every time i turn off and on my device) Then it asks if you want to have a code lock, you can skip or press next to make a lock (This I also have to do, And YES, I have tried to make a password and then just delete it afterwards) Then it tells you to type in PIN code (I also got to do this, but this is nothing I want removed hehe) Then lastly it auto configurated what network you use (For you guys ATT and sprint maybe, I got NetCom - Also this I do NOT have to do)
Please help me! hehe
Really annoying that I need to config this setting each time I restart my Cellphone
Has i always been this way? Have you not had the phone long?
It sounds like you didn't hard reset your phone after you either turned it on for the first time, or flashed a custom ROM.
I bet a hard reset will work, if not then it sounds like a hardware problem. Like back in the old days before WM5 if your battery died, thats it it would wipe. This is because the memory in the phone is volitile. Your phone might not be keeping the settings or supplying enough power.
Try a hard reset first, this usually solves most problems like this

As said, I got this phone for christmas, I turned it on, and had to set it up, I did, and when I restarted the phone I did NOT have to set it ut again!
After 1 month I hard reseted it (Because of a bad program which ruined my dailpad) and now I have to set up the phone EACH TIME I turn it on!! (I do not have to install WM or config the Network)
OK, so I've Hard Reset my device again, works perfectly now!

Windows Mobile 6.5 Lock - Unlock button not responding

SADLY I WAS FORCED TO HARD RESET SO PLEASE DON'T ANSWER THIS NOW.
I have installed Sone WM6.5, most recent built ( thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433808 ). I have set the lock using a simple 4 digit password, but the battery died on my way home tonight (typically in the floods!).
I got home and charged the battery, but I cannot unlock the phone. I can slide the slider to unlock, enter the 4 characters (2233, so it isn't as if I have forgotten it!) the 4 characters are shown at the top as white circles, so it has accepted the input, but if I press the unlock/contacts/mail buttons, they depress (i.e. acknowledge they have been pressed) but nothing happens. If I put an incorrect password in, nothing either - It doesn't tell me that I've entered the password incorrectly!
Is there anything I can do without having to hard reset?
Thanks in advance.
Aubs
P.S. I have also posted this in the SONE thread HERE in the Diamond > Diamond ROM development forum as I am desparate to get it sorted - So if I get a reply on there first, I'll let this thread know. Hope this isn't against the board rules

I wonder if this is getting more common? I appreciate that only 3 people affected so far doesn't raise it to pandemic levels yet!!

I am in, you can add me to the list of those affected by the same problem.
same here, just started this morning...i put in the correct password, but unlock icon doesnt work....dont want to hard reset because the messages i need but oh well
Edit: it works now--either two solutions. 1st a screen popped up saying i entered the password incorrectly too many times and i had to enter what i was told to enter on the screen OR 2nd, it couldve been because i entered my original password in landscape mode...hope this helps u all with the problem
I was able to resolve this problem, but I'm not sure the correct solution and I'm not ready to try again!
First the symptoms are exactly the same:
- I was talking in the phone till the battery died, when I recharged the battery and tried to unlock the unlock-key get pressed but doesn't work.
Second I found this thread by google, and also found many other results, the usual solution was to hard-reset ... but my problem was that I cannot reset since my firmware is not original and I don't have any firmwares on any SD-cards ...
Third, again I'm not sure the correct answer but here is what I can tell:
- My phone is iPAQ 910c
- I typed the pin
- I then typed on the letter "z"
- I then typed on "Fn + z" (Which is the character "*" ...)
- I repeatedly pressed on "z"
- I pressed enter many times and the right-arrow ">" many times
- I pressed on "z" again
- I was a bit nervous so I think I pressed on those two keys many many times till finally I found the device unlocked so I'm finally happy
Note:
- The idea of pressing on "*" come from this link: http://www.fixya.com/support/t1457097-unlock_samsung_i780_phone_soft_touch
I got it after many google searches and it worked for me too!
I'm also not able to unlock... Same symptoms : Unlock icons doesn't work, either pin is correct or not.
It happens just after connecting my HD to my new Win7 laptop using Windows Mobile Device Center.
Synchronization was complete and one hour later I had to soft reset because of display problems.
I still can access my Touch HD folders by Windows Mobile Device Center and synchronize it, but i can't unlock it...
Strange.
I have the same problem, but i cant even do a hard reset because my keys are locked, any solution?

How to factory reset Galaxy Nexus?

I have a Google Galaxy Nexus bought unlocked from Google about two weeks ago.
A few hours ago, I seem to have unintentionally locked myself by setting both a PIN and PUK. I was not aware that I was setting anything more than a 4 digit PIN. Whatever a PUK might be, is not explained in the manual printout here in front of me.
I was presented with a numeric keypad screen that wanted me to set (reset?) both. Across the top of the screen I was getting a marquee saying I needed a min of 8 characters and below that, a field for PIN and a field for PUK (it would have nice to at least once be told what that acronym stands for).
Cancel only just turns off the screen (not the phone). Same with OK.
So, I did power off. But when I turned power back on I get that same screen and the phone is locked.
So, I read the manual again. No real help on how to have avoided this or how to get out of this trouble.
I searched the net. I found instructions somewhere that told me I could do a factory rest that would loose all data, etc. Since I have only had this phone for a short while and done little to customize it, I could live with that. My mail, calendar and photos are synched to my desktop.
So, I followed the instruction for factory reset (and took note that the manual with this expensive device is no help with this important function nor does it give me a phone number for support. Shame on someone for that decision.)
1. power off
2. hold volume button
3. hold power button
That returned a screen with a large Anroid character, plus a large right facing arrow containing the word "Start" in the arrow. Beneath the android it says "Downloading. Do not turn off target!!" The double exclamation marks suggest this is to be obeyed.
Another aside to whoever designed this thing. the first rule of communication is, "The effectiveness and efficiency of any message is 100% the responsibility of the sender." The corollary to that is, do not use jargon or technical terms unless you include a definition.
So, what or who is a "target?" Other than a set of concentric cirles and the name of the place my wife buys Martha Stewart sheets , I know no other target.
BTW - if I am supposed to touch the arrow to launch something (and perhaps turn off the target?) it's a waste. After 15 minutes of no action, I touched it. Nothing happened.
So now I have a screen that tells me to not do something, leaving me with the fear of doing anything at all. And even if I should do something, like touch the Start, nothing happens. Now close to 1/2 hour has passed and the "downloading" message is unchanged. WTF is it downloading? Anything at all?
Do I now own a warm paperweight whose enigmmatic screen will go dark in a few hours?
Or can I do something that actually works?
Thank you for your patience in reading this. The book Alice In Wonderland was shorter and much more interesting.
Any useful suggestion will be appreciated.
update on stuck reset
After the phone sat here onm desk for a few hours, with that same screen and warning (do not close target). I picked up the phone to move it to the side.
When i grabbed it, I accidentally squeezed the power button. That ascreen wnet away and then it blinked back to the screen tthat wants the PUK and PIN.
Any idea wht to do from here?
As I said at the start, I am willing to do a factory reset. Obviously I do not know how.
Advice, please?
Easy.

Hi mate, when you say 'locked out' do you mean a password or pattern at the lock screen, a SIM (network) lock, or a PUK/security lockout?
The more info you can give, the more I can help you

No worries
First, try this. It's for the AT&T GS2, but may work on yours too.
Alternatively, you could have a go at this method.
There may be others too. That came from just a quick Google search. The final alternative would be to factory reset the phone, but you will lose all your photos etc. from the phone
Thats the problem its gone past the pattern stage now its asking me to enter my email and password,
which i have done many times now and still doesnt change...
i will do factory reset as a last resort.
thankyou

Is it possible your daughter changed it to her email/password? Just a thought
If not, a factory reset will get you out of trouble, although it's not ideal.
Best of luck with it, let me know if you need anything further
all my contacts etc are saved on the sim and the memory card.
how do i do a factory reset?
Are you running a custom.recovery, like CWM?

Hello everyone..i am new in this forum..

Question samsung galaxy A53 turns off before i can enter my password

As the title says, my phone will not stay on long enuf for me to enter my password. It's fully charged, but it only stays on long enuf for me enter maybe two characters, and turns off. Any help will be very much appreciated.
Actually, I would like to do away with having to enter a password at all. I bought this phone maybe three months ago, played around with it for a while, and then set it aside and continued to use my old phone. Can't really remember what all I did with it, and don't recall having entered a password, but apparently I did. Can I maybe do a reset to factory defaults and then start from scratch? Would that get rid of the password, and how would I do that?
Well, I managed to enter my password. Discovered that as long as I continue to press the power-on button, the phone will not shut down, giving me the time I need to enter my password. Being 74 years old with fingers that aren't as spry as they used to was, it's a somewhat laborious and time-consuming process, but I got it done.
