Question POCO X3 Pro or Realme 6? - Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro

They're about the same price and the hardware is plenty for me. However, which one is better for custom ROM support? Both seem to have an active custom ROM community but I can't decide which one to buy on the basis of ease and long term custom support?

Buy new phones.
Snapdragon chipsets has more custom supports than MediaTek in general.

Poco all the way man

Thanks. I've just made the purchase. Will arrive in the coming days or weeks. First order of business, update to latest stock and then unlock bootloader.

OnePlus One vs Xiaomi Redmi note 3 pro.

Okay so first off, I'm going to be visiting China soon and I'm looking to buy a phone from there. Considering that OnePlus and Xiaomi are very widely known, I'm only going to be considering these two companies. I'm only looking for a secondary phone. So I don't want the best of the best. But I do want a good phone. I'm currently looking at the Xiaomi redmi note 3 pro and the OnePlus One and the OnePlus X but I'm kind of ignoring the OnePlus X. So, first things first, I hate MIUI. Like I hate it to bits. But since it's a secondary phone, i don't think I'll be really that bothered. But Xiaomi is absolutely horrible with releasing kernel sources so CM won't be coming any time soon. And I love customising my device. From flashing ROMs to flashing mods, I love doing it. So my question to you is, Which one do you think should I choose? The obvious answer is of course whichever I prefer. Between its better sounding specs and that horrible horrible way to be able to have your bootloader unlocked, I'm really confused as to what would be a better device for me.
Thank You for your consideration!
Oneplus one
Considering you want to flash Roms and modify your phone I would say that go for one plus one as it has a huge developer base currently developing roms. Redmi note 3 pro is right now new and has amazing specs for half the price. Though the kernel sources will be delayed ( maybe 4 to 6 months at max hopefully) some Roms do come out after that. (Eg check mi 4 forum on mi website). So basically it's how urgently you want to get start modding your phone. The choice is up to you of course.

I'd definitely suggest Oneplus One since you like to flash ROMs and tinker with your phone. If you ultimately decide to go for the Redmi Note 3 go for the Snapdragon 650 version. Qualcomm does a good job releasing CAF source so that particular one is more likely to get support but it depends on if a maintainer picks up the device and builds a ROM for it. You could be stuck on stock for a long time

I have both. I'll go with one anytime any day
I have both. One plus is 2 years old but still looks great. I didn't have too much trouble unlocking, installing custom recovery + root on Redmi note 3 pro but it is very easy on OPO. Cm13 alpha is available for redmi note 3. For the price xiaomi is outstanding. I'd go for the xiaomi.

Look at the 2g,3g and 4g bands. OPO is better

Custom ROM support already dead?

It really has been a while since all the major ones got an update. I am just asking, because I don't like the fact, that Honor pushes out phones every 3 months while abandoning older phones such as the Honor 8 and now to me it seems the same for the custom roms here on XDA. Well ok, an OREO custom ROM came out a few weeks ago, but it seems to have the same bugs as the Nougat ones (which are still not fixed?). I dont want to moan or something like that, but can anyone give some clarification on that (like: we are still working on our roms but wont publish updates before everything works 100%)?
this is the way its going to be with huawei. if you want custom rom support look elswhere. at least the new phones will get treble which will help with running custom roms but i would still recommend another brand.
Go an Android One Device a few weeks ago, sadly my screen broke overnight (dont know why and how) and had to send the phone back, got my money back because i dont wanted to wait till 2018 to get my replacement phone (Xiaomi Mi A1 imported). Looking for a new device right now, seems like except for the google phones, there isnt a brand which supports atleast two major OS updates and then continues to give devs custom rom support. Had my eye on the Nokia ones (they just said, that they want to open the bootloaders), but I dont know if a Snapdragon 430 would make me happy.
I've had Moto's for several years through the Moto G4 and custom rom availability was the best thing about Motorola phones. That said, Lenovo ruined Motorola and the Honor 8 is still better even without custom rom support. I would take my Honor 8 over the rom rich Moto any day.

Before buying. Some questions

Hello fellow XDA users. I decided to change my aging mi5, my first thought was mi mix 2s, but i realized that almost none of the phones has home button nowadays, and maybe i'm old school, but it's kind of important to me. I realized that maybe only huawei and oneplus is the one which is keeping this feature, and since p20 is more pretty for me, i'm really onto buying it… but of course i'm not sure about it, i'm a sucker for stock android, and as i see, there isn't any custom rom here.
Are you generally satisfied with the Huawei rom? Is there anyone working on custom rom? If so, will it be any soon available? For users who are already having the phone, any regrets? Would you choose any different phone if you bought today?
Would greatly appreciate any answers,
cheers.
The Huawei ROM is fine, no limitations, all you need in my opinion. Never felt I have to change the ROM.
I loved the home button in my Honor 9 before. It works well on P20 but, somehow because of the position (bigger screen) the onscreen buttons are easier to reach.

Hi
I am living in UK and one of my chinese friend want to buy a new phone but not Apple.... He asked me and i was suggest P20. Now he want it to buy in China but using it in UK. So my question is the chinese OS will work in UK without limitations? I mean google map, google translation etc.? Or is only one "global" OS on P20 not like Oneplus where is HydrogenOS in Chinese region and OxygenOS for Europe etc.?

Unlock bootloader officialy

HMD Global, the manufacturer of the recent Nokia phones, has notoriously been against releasing kernel source codes for its devices, despite their popularity. And even when it does push those out to the development community, it typically prevents people from unlocking the phones' bootloaders, which hampers customization options. But this morning brought news that Nokia 8 owners could do just that: unlock their bootloaders.
To the passionate developer and modding community out there, we have news to share!
You can now unlock the bootloader of your #Nokia. #BootloaderUnlock #Nokiamobile

Wrong post in a wrong thread. It should have been in Nokia 8 development thread instead of Nokia 7 plus.

yes, but.. is one step to have unlocking of N7p... IF HMD is not TOO stupid, and not want have unlocking after 1 year after release (as i think is Nokia8), because of-course this NOT help growing developers community, is NEED have unlocking max some month after release, OR all possible developers buy ANOTHER phone from ANOTHER company, or SELL his already buyed N7p...

Very true! Even I am planning to get a Poco F1. It may not have super built quality, but Xiaomi atleast allows its devices to be modified. They have even selected a handful of XDA developers and giving them Poco F1 for free so that they can develop good custom ROMs and kernels for the device. This is the difference in between Xiaomi and Nokia.

i too thinking about Poco F1, although sure be lower quality and plastic, although i not want more cpu power:
- officialy unlocking bootloader from day of release
- in day of release released kernel source
- official statement that unlocking bootloader NOT "void warranty"
- official statement (and recommendation!) that user can try/install GSI or custom ROM
- official support of xda developres by donating multiple Poco F1 devices to them!!!
this is REALLY different that Nokia, yes Nokia (HMD) too have some nice approach:
- AndroidOne
- N7p in beta program
- collaboration with Carl Zeis
but WHY not have GOOD HW and GOOD COMMUNITY support?? Nokia she could "next best Nexus line for users&developeres&community", if not stupid...

The biggest drawback of Nokia devices are very less resell value. Just to give you an example. I sold my 10 months old Xiaomi Mi A1 for 8500 rupees which cost me around 15000. And my 2 months old Nokia 7 plus is not getting more than 15000 which cost me 26000. Which means I will now have to accept a loss of 11000 in just two months. I tried everywhere (e.g. Olx, Quikr, Cashify, local vendors) but nobody is offering me more than 15000. All retail vendors told me the same thing that Nokia devices do not have resell value. I would have never bought a Nokia device if I knew that before.

If you use this strategy you need to buy iPhone not Android phones. Best resell value. I buy my phones looking at the features I need and when I buy another phone, my old phone became my backup phone.

I think I mentioned the resell value of Xiaomi Mi A1 which is an Android device. And features gets old faster with new features coming every day. So, no wonder we may want to resell our device in order to get a new one with the latest features and not everyone needs 2-3 devices. Decreasing the device value of 11k in just two months is insane. I wonder what would be the value of the device after 5-6 months. No wonder, I have made a big mistake and I am regretting now. But lesson learnt.

then A1 you sell for 56% of new price, and N7p for 57% of new price, this is more percent

You don't get ut, do you? That Mi A1 was 10 months old for which I got 56% resell value. And this Nokia 7 plus is only 2 months (not even proper 2 months) old and it gives me only 57%
Imagine what would be the resell value of this device afyer 10 months? Probably 6-7k or even worse.
nokia 7+ developer options
there is an option to unlock boot loader in the phone after pie update. is this the key to finally root the device?

For which phone exist the most Custom Roms

Im currently lokking for a new phone to replace my Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. I was really disappointed to see mod support drop after a couple of months after release so this became a factor considering when buying a new device.
Which smartphone got the most regularly updated custom roms?
Which productline is known for longtime support?
Which company is known to support modding?
Best Regards

I agree, of all phones in the past the Google Pixel received the most custom development and custom roms.
Of today's generation, I think the OnePlus 6T might be contender. That thing is a tank and great to develop for.
ok thank you guys
Nexus's had many in it's day! Now the OnePlus series does well...
