Question Some Qs on this phone - Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro

Hello everyone.
I'm a fresh owner of a Poco X3 Pro 8+256, EU version, up-to-date.
I have some questions and I hope someone can answer:
1. Reception is... deficient! I mean, using same operator, I have - in the same "almost blind spot", better signal with my old Huawei Mate 10 Lite rather with this. Does someone else noticed same? Is there any way to improve?
2. I miss my call recording. On my old one, stuck at Android 8, I used ACR. On this one ACR doesn't work. The only one, stupid proof, is BoldBeast Call Recorder. Do you have others to propose?
3. I don't dig much some of the default apps, like Dialer (it's stock Google Dialer) and others. Do you have some alternatives to default apps, but not requiring root?
4. Is there a cheatsheet to stuff to do before using the phone as a daily driver? Apart debloating...
5. Speaking of debloating, does it really change something in the experience? Is there a safe list for bloatware to uninstall?
6. Does this phone has the possibility of video output through USB-C? If so, how to do it?
7. Is there a list of codes to try for this phone?
Thank you in advance for taking time to read this and to reply.

It does to some point, for battery preservation and less ads.

The apps listed in the program are consider safe to remove. In case anything went wrong, you can re-install them back.
Some apps will still broke some functions if you debloat it. Try and error.

Simply, by seeing that I have no signal with X3 Pro while with the Mate 10 Lite I was having two bars of signal and 4G internet connection.

Some codes like factory/hidden menu,, disabling/enabling functions and so on. You know, codes to digit from the Dialer.

Change the 4G band of both phone to be using the same band to check if the signal is really not working.
4G signals have different bands. Different phones have different bands using. And even same model phones, in different countries, they have different bands.
If you buy Redmi K40 (from China), you may have signal problem in the US. Poco F3 (Global) has better signal coverage compare to Redmi K40 outside China. Even if Redmi K40 has same spec as Poco F3, it still has this problem.
Use NetMonster app to check what bands using.

Question before buying Mate 8

i really want to buy mate 8 and i love it but i'm afraid from one thing i'm a user that root his phone and use xposed and flash roms
my question is rooting and xposed will work on this phone without problems?
and i think for mate 8 there is no number of custom roms
it is nornal that the phone is new but my question is like after 2 years when the phone stop to recieve update it will be a custom rom for it ? like Cyanogen?
Root yes ,xposed not working, stock ROM is very good with Google now launcher
I don't believe that CM is making ROMs for Mate 8
Sent from my HUAWEI NXT-L29 using Tapatalk
Root works, xposed works, no cm ROM in sight but delete a bunch of bloat apps, replace them with Google apps instead, and use layers manager along with theme app for a very close to aosp ROM feel
Have to say, was very anxious to find out how Emui would be in practice. If it would be bloated, ugly, overkill, etc.
But now, after using the device for a few days, can honestly say that I wouldn't want it to be any other way! The amount of things you can change, set or extract techy data from is enormous. Don't want stock Android anymore. Don't want CM13. This is it. Emui rulez! :good:
It's fast, smooth, does it all. No regrets. Can't / won't downgrade to stock/ AOSP / CM

Mine doesn't even get warm. There are no dots on the screen either. Having a large battery makes it charge a little slower but mine charges fast if I use the original ac adapter and cable.

Hello everybody, I was wondering if someone could tell me the best mate8 model to buy I will be using it in the usa. I'm using the mate2 now and it is a solid mid-ranger. I have unlocked the bootloader and have cm13 running on it now. I would appreciate your suggestions on the mate8 models and why you pick it. Thanks..
I'm interested in buying a Mate 8 and I was wondering if you can shoot RAW pictures using the Mate 8?
I know that it has a "Pro Mode" option but I can't find any videos online showing a full indept review of that feature, so could anyone explain/elaborate on that?
Many thanks in advance!

Most Raw-capable camera apps you can download from the Play Store won't work as well due to crap implementation on Huawei's side:
Shame, really.

If you wish to buy a Huawei phone and need RAW image files, you have to wait for the release of P9 (April 16th) or P9 Plus (May 20th) that both offer this functionality.
Thank you guys for the reply.
That's really sad to hear then. My LG G4 recently died on me with the infamous boot loop problem and I can't get it fixed anytime soon. I might wait for reviews of the new P9 but I do like the Mate 8 as well though. I'd just have to sacrifice RAW function then =/

It's not only a matter of RAW vs non-RAW... P9/P9 Plus dual camera has been yet tested by some reviewers and defined a significant step forward compared to Mate 8 (but still worse than Samsung S7).

You are right, there's more to it than just RAW, but having RAW function is usually beneficial as you can process the picture later and not rely solely on the phone's image processor. Although if the phone's image processor is good to begin with then you shouldn't need RAW.
My G4 had RAW and I quite liked it, managed to get some good shots during my holiday before it died on me(luckily it died after my vacation was over, lol).
How is the Mate 8's Pro/Manual Mode? Is it any good?

Not very good, no. Yes, lots of options but don't buy this phone for the camera. Much, much better alternatives (like your G4).

Features Needed/Missing in NEX

Overall I love this device , it is any day better than anything else under $700 (~Rs. 50k in India). But I have the habit of nitpicking and thus I found out some camera features that are missing and should be added by Vivo in future updates.
1. 4k video recording @60fps
2. Super slow motion @480fps
3. ARcore apps support
If anyone knows any method to achieve above mentioned features by any means , then please do respond.
And let's not stop bugging Vivo to get more features .

Buy the Indian version. Its 99% (or may be even 100%) similar to global version. You can run any launcher without any verification, google assistant + google lense comes pre installed and it is certified on play store. What more will global version have ?

Does Indian version still come with Jovi installed but deactivated? Probably better that it wasn't anyway so it's less redundancy /bloat when there's Google AI.
Just got mine. Was lucky to be able to get the Indian version.
Overall it's a good device, reminds me of the s9 and note a bit in the hand.
I have gone throughany devices in the apst year or so (Note 8, S8+, S9+, iPhone X, Pixel 2Xl, xiaomi mi mix and htc u11) I still love mi mix more than all. I wish it has a better camera. I love it so much I have 2 ( one for backup as I have broken couple in the past) it's the only phone that I keep going back to.
Vivo seems to be a good phone, UI is a bit different and will take some time. I would recommend getting Indian or international version as you won't have to deal with the headache of Chinese phones.
Indian version doesn't have Jovi, it's remapped to Google Lens.
It does have Jovi but deactivated because if you go into settings, there is a sub-heading with Jovi, which I guess controls the AI function in camera & games.
PS: Just checked, no option to activate it.

Lol. These ROM designers... Smh.
Third party button remap apps... Do they work? Can AI button be used to launch camera etc?
Got an Indian version. I miss face unlock from op6 or Ipx. I wish it'd be a WQHD+ screen like s9+ and IP certificate. What I miss the most though is NFC, as I'm using the gpay all the time.
Hopefully the software issues will be sorted.
I have a problem with AOD. It doesn't display notification icons even though the options re checked in the settings. Weird.

It does not support third party app notification, only stock dailer and sms app.
Vivo must upgrade AOD and give more customization option and functionality just like Samsung AOD offer.

[Guide] [Discussion] (Possible) battery savings by disabling unused network bands.

WARNING: I DON'T TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGES THAT MAY OCCUR TO YOUR PHONE/ SIMS/SD CARDS OR ANY OTHER ACCESSORIES OR DEVICES. DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.
As the title suggests this is a guide to disable certain network bands (GSM/WCDMA/CDMA/LTE) that are not supported by your carrier. Theoretically it should help save battery as the phone won't search for those bands anymore. I'm currently testing this myself and will provide feedback too. The more users try this the better as more feedback will provide better insight to how much battery saving we can get by doing this (if any).
Pre-requisites:
1. The phone needs to be rooted.
2. A free app called Network signal Guru from play store. Link below :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.qtrun.QuickTest
3. The bands that your carrier supports. Use Google/ wiki to search for your carrier and all the bands it supports.
Here it goes :
1. Install network signal guru and give it SU permissions.
2. The app will check for compatibility and download some "online configurations".
3. After the app opens click on the menu and select lock bands.
4. Click on the corresponding network and and UNTICK the bands that you found are NOT supported by your carrier. You might get a message saying that this might force the phone into a power cycle. Ignore it or just stop if you're "not interested now". ?
5. Do this for all the network types.
6. The phone might reconnect to the carrier (you'll notice by network icon in the status bar )
7. Exit the app if you want as these settings still stick if the app is not running.
That's it. You've successfully disabled the bands that you found are not supported by your carrier.
Currently I've tested it on MIUI 9.4.18 and should work on any ROM/ kernel as long as you do it right.
Notes:
1. The settings are removed after a reboot.
2. You might have extra options in the bands if you're using two carriers i.e dual SIM . The secondary carrier is marked by "extended" and the primary by "primary". Select the bands accordingly.
3. The LTE bands look to be "shared" by both the SIMs. So just select the bands of both the carriers if you're using LTE on both.
4. Try to give as much feedback as possible.
Kinda risky cause we have different network band usage and maybe "I'm in Philippines" I might screw something up but hey, I can restore it back. Worth a try I guess, thanks for the info.

It isn't risky at all. I've been doing this on many phones since a long time and never had any problem (unless you're really really unlucky ?.
If you're worried about "power cycle", it just means that the phone will restart and nothing else.
Edited.

The phone by default connects to the WiFi with better signal which more often will be the 2.4g. I see that you can't disable 2.4g on the router. I remember an app called smart WiFi selector and another app called WiFi 5 that can help you. Google them.

The app needs /Dev/diag to communicate with the modem and some kernels disable it. That's why it won't work on those kernels and I can't do anything about. You can ask the Dev of the kernel to include it.

Poco F2 Pro, global version, call recording?

Hi I wish to buy the phone, global version.
Does it have call recorder function, and Xiaomi app (caller. Contacts and so on)?
For me is very important to be able to record phone calls.
Something that is possible to do with Redmi K20 but not with Mi9TPRO (my current phone which I flashed with Indian rom for call recording function.

solution
The solution that ended my problem is as follows
And must be done every time you restart the device (something is better than nothing)
1- go disable mobile data
2- go dial *#*#4636#*#*
3- choose the phone information
4- go down to ( Set Preferred Network Type )
5- choose [NR/LTE/TDSCDMA/GSM/WCDMA]
6- the go enable mobile data the 5g will be activate
remember must be done every time you restart the device (something is better than nothing)
good luck and take care
How do you know if you have the "r15" sim? I'm on T-Mobile and I just used the sim card that the phone came with.

Locate in root shell with modded recovery. Adb pull. Copy to SD card, then pc, modify--> /Mnt/vendor/persist/engineermode/engineermode_config --change bools to false, adb shell, go to directory, rm -rf config file that is there, push your modified one there, reboot then try 866
Or the generic version with less functionality *#*#4636#*#*
With great power comes great risk of wrecking it

Try this. You can manually set to 5g
*#*#866#*#*
^ this works if engineer_config is changed to:
encrypt_app=false
encrypt_adb=false

I'm sorry but these instructions might as well be written in Klingon. I can understand the words, but the meaning escapes me.

There are two videos to show you how to do it but none of them are in English
So try your best to keep up with one of them
Arabic :
France :
Good luck
OK, I will watch the one I have not seen yet...maybe I can deduce what is going on.
Can anybody explain to me why we have to even do this?
I bought a 5G phone and 5G is not turned on?
I have complained to OnePlus but hey...I think they only understand Klingon...so you know I might as well complain to my Poodle.
OOOOkkkaaaaayyyyyy...so here is my report...
I had to use both videos, but the one in what I believe was Arabic was way too fast to follow, not to mention it was in Arabic with no subtitles. The French version was recorded a little slower and it did have subtitles. I employed YouTube's subtitle translation service and it was like having a 3 year old explain highly technical procedures. UUGGGHHHH!!!!
However, thanks to the fact that I was a Windows Systems Engineer for 25 years I was able to recognize the various screens/windows and sludge my way through the entire process only to be rewarded with a procedure that changed NOTHING on the 8T. Lovely! :silly:
While I do appreciate the videos, they apparently are not relative to the 8T for some unknown (at least to me) reason!
Now I did note at the start of this thread that someone mentioned that this did not work on the 8T...so maybe I should have just listened to him and saved my time. To be fair though, I've had more fun getting a root canal than slogging through a foreign language video in a futile attempt to activate a cell signal that should be activated OOTB!
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread so far, and I hope OnePlus gets their heads out of their a$$ and make this thing work as expected.
