Edit : Never mind... I figured out it was my 3rd party AnySoftKeyboard app causing me the TICK sound upon boot. After disabling "sound on keypress" then now no more TICK upon boot. Weird that it is making that sound upon boot... freakn annoying

My phone keeps making a sound (that I'm not allowed to link to or upload... ) over and over again for several minutes at seemingly random intervals. What is it?
url: joejulian.name/noise.ogg
I've gone through every sound file on the filesystem and none of them make that sound.
I've listened to every possible notification sound.
It happens whether or not wifi and/or bluetooth are on.
On charger or not.
Plugged into a computer or not.
My money is on an unsuccessfull sync. Try going to settings > sounds and notifications and go through them all seeing which notification you have set to that sound.
Tried that back when I first got the phone (when it first came out).
I've never been able to find what causes it and I've gone through every sound file on the phone, none of them make that sound.
Ok, looking through the alerts it was modern.wma (windows/rings/modern.wma) or a varient of (modernmid sounded closes)
Well I'll be damned. I could have sworn I listened to every damned sound file. Thanks.
Oddly, in settings/sounds/notifications, none of the notifications show Alert-ModernMid.wma but a registry dump showed:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{A877D658-239C-47a7-9304-0D347F580408}]
"Wave"="\\Windows\\Alert-ModernMid.wma"
@="ActiveSync: Begin sync"
"Duration"=dword:00000000
"AvailableOptions"=dword:00000003
"Options"=dword:00000000
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{8ddf46e7-56ed-4750-9e58-afc6ce486d03}]
"Options"=dword:fffffff7
"Wave"="\\Windows\\Alert-ModernMid.wma"
@="Connection established"
"Duration"=dword:00000000
"AvailableOptions"=dword:0000000b
"Connection established" shows the Ring dialog instead of the Alert dialog, and shows Ring-OldPhone2 as the ringer. "ActiveSync: Begin sync" has "Play sound" and "Vibrate" both unchecked. Those were the only lines with "Alert-ModernMid.wma".
I'm going to try editing the registry entries but I still think it's odd...
Im not sure what happened but I can no longer change the sound or vibrate settings for swype. They are both ticked, but greyed out. And it doesnt make sounds or vibrate when using the keyboard. I think something must be overriding it, but I dont know what. Ive tried changing the same settings in settings/ sound, but the options in swypes preferences are still greyed out.
Using ICS I had the same problem. You probably resolved your issue since you posted (or found a workaround) but for future reference :
- to be able to set sound for swype you have to tick on keytones in sound settings
- to be able to set haptic feedback for swype you have to tick on vibrate on screen tap in sound settings.
Hello,
I noticed that push notifications from third party apps do not make a sound or vibrate. Is there some way to make them do that (or is that something the third party app has to force?)? As it is right now, push notifications are useless for me, most of the time as I don't notice them when the phone is in my pocket...
Err.. Dude, only if you set to not vibrate. Push notifications, actually, vibrates a lot. And though I hate that, there is a sound too. The same sound to all apps, still, it is a sound.

If you're not aware of this, There is a setting under Setting -> ringtones+sounds -> All other notifications.
By checking this option, you can receive sound or/and vibrate for all apps notification accordingly.
Yes, of course most of the third party apps will have the option to select either sound/vibrate (like IM+). If they don't have, alert will be done according to your settings under ringtones+sounds.
I'm getting sound/vibrate alerts from my apps. Are you referring to this or something else??
oh, I have disabled this option because this results in sounds on pretty much anything. Error message -> Sound, I will give this a whirl maybe it's what I need to to :-/
EDIT: Indeed, enabling this setting makes toast notifications make a sound and vibrate, but it also makes system notifications make the annoying default.wav sound. I have, however, disabled this sound now using the registry so I have the best of both worlds.
That's great! But I've live with annoying system notification since my device is just dev unlocked.

I have got this problem, the notification sound was reset to "Nature sound" after a reboot. The "Default notification sound" at the "Sound and vibration" in "Settings" menu was showing the notification that I have changed to, but it sounded the "Nature sound" when a message arrived. I tried copying the notification sound that I wanted from system to internal storage, same thing.
I am on MIUI 10 8.9.7, and the problem started from 8.9.4. Clean install on 8.9.4 and dirty flashed to 8.9.7.
Does anybody having this problem too?

Vibrate is working for me, no problem.
How to turn off the sound at the end of a call.?
I treid on phone setting but it do not help.
In the phone app go to settings
it don't stop the sound
Strange
It's not in Phone settings but in the app
My Phone is In Danish but i think it's like this in English
Open Phone app, go to Settings, go to Call Alerts and Ringtones there you can turn it off
Works for me
for mr did not work,but,i stoped the notification from call recording and this helped me.
Ok, that makes sense
That's a totally different issue, it's not the Call but the recorder that plays the sound
I'm pretty sure turning off "system sounds" will mute that.
