On Friday I updated my rog pgone 5 to the latest version. yesterday suddenly the fingerprint sensor stopped working, restart the factory mobile and solve it, but at 24 hours the same thing happened again.
does anyone know what happens?
Seems to be a common issue. A log when it happens may help to find a fix.
There is a lot of log spam to dig through, so I wasn't able to pull one on-the-fly

I don't have a fix without knowing the issue, hence suggesting a log.
Looks like a missing vendor style xml, unless that's a unique issue.

I have been able to solve it, I did a system erase + deactivate facial recognition + fingerprint. turn off the device, turn it on again, turn everything on again and restart. for now it works. When I charge the phone, I hope it won't happen again. (After charging the phone, it gets quite hot and the sensor stops working.)
Alright, well good luck with that.

today I have recharged the mobile and again with the same. but now I don't even have the option to activate or deactivate the sensor.
How can I install or restore the vendor style xml file?

Hi everyone...
I was at the gas station last night, and thought I'd try using NFC/Google Wallet to try paying for something for the first time.
I went in to turn on NFC, and found that the option is completely grayed out. (The button is set to "on", but its grayed out, and cannot be turned off)
Android Beam is disabled/grayed out.
S Beam is enabled, but I can't seem to change it.
Tap and Pay is disabled, and says, "NFC is turned off".
Something is clearly FUBAR'd here.
I've tried rebooting a couple times.
I've tried pulling the battery (yes, its the original OEM battery).
I've tried wiping data for NFC.
I tried re-installing the stock ROM, and it didn't fix anything.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks..
Just a follow up here... I've also tried a complete wipe of the device... still no go.

Yes.
And when I did a complete wipe and re-install, I was able to verify that its happening with the stock kernel also, so I don't believe it to be a kernel issue.
I was able to try a different battery today... from someone else with an S5, and the same problem exists.
My next step is to try unrooting and going back to complete stock... obviously I'd like to avoid this if at all possible.
Any other suggestions? Anyone?
Well, I did it today.. unrooted, went back to full stock everything... and I still cant change the NFC setting on my S5.
If anyone has any other suggestions, I'm more than open to anything at this point...

No, but I may get it for this. What a bummer.
Could someone be so kind as to post a copy of their /data/data/com.android.nfc/shared_prefs/SamsungNfcPrefs.xml file for me?
Also, can you tell me if you have an nxpdevicehost.xml file in that same directory?
Thanks!
Here are the latest details. I feel like I'm so close, yet so far.
Background:
When I would reboot my S5, the NFC setting would be set to "On", but disabled and wouldn't let me change it. On top of that, my phone would never go into Deep Sleep. After exhaustive research, it appears that the phone was constantly trying to enable NFC, which prevented it from hitting Deep Sleep.
I've dug thru a lot of the AOSP code, and discovered the following.
- If I change the nfc_on tag from true to false in my NfcServicePrefs.xml, and add a line setting first_boot = false, NFC does not try to turn on when I reboot the next time (This solves my deep sleep problem).
- If I try to manually turn NFC on after that, it gets stuck the same as before I made any changes to the XML file.
- Based on this code, it looks like there is a java call to "mDeviceHost.initialize()". I'm guessing this is where I'm getting borked.
- The initalize function, found here, seems to want a file called NxpDeviceHost.XML. I cannot find this file anyplace on my S5.
My assumption here is that Samsung forked this process and made their own internal changes. I'm looking at AOSP code, but that doesn't help if Samsung changed things on their end.
Can ANYONE help me debug things from here? I'm a developer by trade, but have never worked in JAVA (although I've figured out how to read enough of it to become dangerous). I dont need a lot of hand-holding... just a push in the right direction here.
Thanks!

I have the same issue on an LG-e970. The NFC option is checked and grayed out, I can't change it. It's always been this way since I got the phone. The new problem in the past 48 hours is some OTA update is causing Nfc Service to prevent the phone from sleeping, but I have no idea what it is. I thought maybe Google Wallet so I uninstalled it, but the problem remains. It happened well after the Android 4.4.4 Cm11-M8 update for this phone. I filed a bug at code google dot com bug ID 74037, which this silly forum won't let me post because I'm too new and it doesn't understand the difference between a google code URL and spam.
Weird. So I powered off the phone, let it charge to 100%, booted in safe mode, Settings > Storage > Cache and reset it, rebooted in normal mode, and let the phone sit unused for 1 hour. The problem with Nfc Service is not occurring, the phone is sleeping most of the time now. When I go to Settings > More > NFC is unchecked, not grayed out. Inexplicable, because I've had no way to uncheck it.
So I just checked it, and it immediately grays out so I can't uncheck it again. I'm leaving the phone unused for another hour and see where things are at.

Nfc Service is once again the top battery consumer and won't let the system sleep. The bugreport for the state with the problem (in contrast to the report for the state without the problem):
many instances of:
07-24 11:23:16.870 1064 8319 E NFCJNI : emergency_recovery: NFC stack dead-locked
and also

Wake Locks: size=1
PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK 'NfcService:mRoutingWakeLock' (uid=1027, pid=1064, ws=null)
I've booted recovery, formatted /cache and erased Dalvik cache, see where that goes... obviously if I can figure out how to disable the NFC option again, that solves the no sleep problem.

Hi. So recently with my oneplus one I have been having issues (location services not working, text messages not sending/relieving, and mobile data acting up a bit). I decided to perform a factory reset because I figured this would probably be the best way to just start over fresh and possibly resolve some of the issues. Most of the issues were fixed, however I was incredibly disappointed when I went into my settings. Half of the options that I could once modify before I reset the device were now gone! To name a few: the notification bar brightness slider, the vibrator intensity setting, the hardware button brightness, the customized screen colors, and the customized lock screen shortcuts..and that's just to name a few of the important ones. I'm wondering what's going on! Is there any way to get these settings back on my oneplus one? Has anyone else had this issue? Is it because of the cyanogen fallout? It's really frustrating. I didn't realize how much I took those amazing settings for granted. I would have just dealt with the issues if I'd known this would happen. Let me know if anyone has any idea..i would be so so appreciative.
Don't know if its the same thing but there is an advance mode in about phone in settings that allows more modifications to be made.

Are you sure that you signed in with the same email as before? Mine were all saved under the email that I used. Otherwise I'm not sure. Sorry! In the future I'd always recommend downloading Dropbox and turning on the automatic camera upload synching so if anything ever happens you'll still have them forever.
flash via ADB?
On my N5 the display keeps off when plugin / remove the charger (qi and ac).
Is there something similar possible for the S7?
I have root and xposed. I see something in "secure+" but it seems not to work.
No one bothered about this?
Tried an old xposed module. Wasn't working. Found an app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.mudar.snoozy but it had the issue with the latest update about the smartlock killed and you had to put in the pin like after the reboot, no fingerprint unlock...
I bother! Just HATE this annoying feature.
I wished it could be removed too
I will have to investigate on how to install xposed too... (I still find it too risky for my S7)

Doesn't bother me at all. If I'm picking the phone up off the charger, I probably want to check what's happened while it was charging. Lighting the screen when starting charging doesn't really matter either way. It goes off in a few seconds.
I am new to the OnePlus 8 on T-Mobile and I am having an issue where when on an active call the phone app completely disappears. Sometime i can find it again in the notification area and other times I cant find the active call at all. This makes it very difficult to switch to speakerphone or even hang up the call. Does anyone know why this is happening or how to fix it? I have never had this happen on an android phone before .
Thanks!
Are you using apps for notification LED ? like NotifyBuddy or similar ? i use this app and the phone goes all black and found it difficult sometimes.
Isnt the Phone app visible in Recent Apps list ?
for the time being unless someone really helps you solve the problem, you can enable Power Button Ends the call option from Accessibility settings to end Call easily with Power Button.
I am not using any LED apps. The suggestion about the accessibility option to end the call is a good one until I figure more out. Thanks for that tip!

May be you guys should try turning off the setting and restart, if that doesnt solve the problem go to recovery mode and clear cache. Let us know if any of that works.
On a side note: I have been facing weird ass issues with this phone just today my phone wont go to mute by using volume key while receiving a call. Like someone calls you and your phone is ringing, you just want to silence the ringtone you can use volume key (Press once), Flip the phone or put your palm over it (If you have the settings on). I tried multiple restarts and switched on and off the settings many times. It was fixed when i restarted my phone to download mode (This happened by mistake i wanted to go to recovery) anyhow that fixed it.

Also try clearing system cache in the boot menu.

That can be a daunting task but sort of fun because you can streamline your notification settings as you do so.

If they catch it. Consider which sensors and operation triggers it, cause and effect, to narrow it down.
Playing with Android is fun... Android witch hunts are how you really learn about Android's gooey layer tricks.
Google searches on older Notes and parallel Samsung models can turn up answers many times.
This model is too recent; so not near as much online troubleshooting info. Google searches encompass threads on this forum as well so it can be a good way to find the needle in the Android stack. Do not time limit searches.
On my 10+ with it's baffling bt poor audio I found the answer with something written about the N9.
Many of these issues are long standing.
Samsung finally fixed the bt settings issue in a Wearables update. That took years.

Well, I've checked all that and nothing, I don't even have the compass edge panel. But I think I'm able to replicate the issue, it mostly happens when my phone is face down on a surface and I pick it up and turn it to me, I don't have a case on it yet and I'm starting to think that it might have something to do with the edge screen but so far no luck

It does suck some battery life though. It's one of the features I disable on my 10+ mostly because I find it annoying.
It's cool though how much you can customize notification behavior; one of the biggest reasons to go with Samsung is customization.
I play around with Settings a lot.. never crashed a load doing it. It's just occasionally gets time consuming to sort it out.
