Repeating notification sound (GravityBox) without Xposed/Root - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I miss that one option on my non rooted S21 Ultra. GravityBox has the means to stop repetitive notification sounds for a specific time, for example 30 seconds. If you have a lot of friends that like to send 7 sentences in 7 messages then it comes in very handy. Does anybody know a non root solution that I may use?
Thank you

Notifications - Whatsapp, Ring Doorbell and others.

Hi all,
I know this topic has been bashed to death, I've read through this forum, other forums, many web sites, but have been unable to resolve the issues, I am not getting notifications on WhatsApp, my Ring Doorbell, and some other apps (Outlook is one of them).
It's a Mate 9 - MHA-AL00 - Build Number MHA-AL00C00B225 (the latest release I believe).
I have followed each and every suggestion, allowing notifications, raising the priority of the apps, making them trusted, adjusting power / battery settings (app auto-launch etc), allowing them to freely use Wifi or Mobile data as required, setting individual permissions to everything, basically giving them access to all and sundry, removing and re-installing and doing it all again, rebooting the phone etc, nothing has worked.
I saw some earlier threads acknowledging this as a known issue (due to the EMUI way of handling things), the advice was to wait for the next release, but that was in Jan/Feb, the next 2 releases have come and gone.
Have I missed anything?
Are there any EMUI settings that I have missed?
Is there another App I can install that can improve or fix this?
Thanks in advance, any assistance would be much appreciated.

Rebrand to Europe version and you'll get notifications working like they should.

Many thanks albertobom,
I am relatively new to Android phones, does that mean re-flashing the handset?
Does re-flashing the handset mean it's rooted? (I use some banking apps which won't work on a rooted handset).
Is it straightforward to do with a Windows 10 laptop?
Is special software needed?
Does it definitely fix the notifications issue?
Can I back up and restore the handset to save myself re-installing 50+ Apps?
Where would I find the Europe image?
Sorry for all the questions, I'll also do some research on the forum.
Cheers

Many thanks for the information mavera, I will try some of these on the Chinese image and see if it makes a difference.

Hello Peter,
I saw that I have a similar problem with my Mate 9 ( MHA-AL00C00B225 ) - push notificatons.
Do you solve this issue?
If your answ is affirmative, please tell me how can I solve it? (without rooting my phone)
Tks
Hi there,
Alas I didn't find a definitive solution, I am using a non ideal workaround. The behaviour is random, I guess as the EMUI is learning..?Notifications work fine on some apps and not great on others, then sometimes work ok on the apps they didn't used to work on, not always logical, but I suppose something is going in the background trying to process it.
Once you have done all the elevation of the app in terms of making it trusted, giving it all permissions, removing any power limitations etc, open apps have a padlock symbol (when you have the view that shows you all open apps), if you enable it on, it should keep them alive when the phone goes into a sleep / lower power state.
I kept on doing that with 2 or 3 critical apps (Whatsapp, Ring etc), and it seemed to learn I think...The padlock was on automatically at times and the apps stayed open and gave notifications.. Anyway, it's not ideal, I'm hoping the next release might fix it (maybe Android O?). Like you I wasn't comfortable in rooting the device, flashing etc, in case it stopped my banking apps working and didn't fix my probs, so I'm living with it at the moment.
Sorry I couldn't help more.

Questions/issues with Bluetooth and notifications

Hey XDA,
I just got a new Mate 9 after I send my Nexus 6P to RMA. So far a great phone, although I've been annoying myself to some notification and Bluetooth related issues so far. I hope someone may be able to help me out here. Would be really appreciated.
- Notifications seem to ignore there given importance by the app and are not ordered to it. All notifications are simple visible in the status bar with it's icon, even if the priority is low, when on the Nexus 6P it would be hidden from the notification area and on the bottom of the notification drawer. This is really annoying for constantly running apps/processes like AccuBattery, Tasker, PocketBell and WhatsApp's web notification. Is there any way to honor this importance/priority without setting this for the whole app and order these notifications?
- Notifications seem not to honor there persistency. For example, when listening to Spotify, I'm able to swipe away this notification, which shouldn't be possible. Is there any way to make these really persistent?
- Notifications are not visible on the lock screen. I'm only able to select this on an per-app basis, but is there any way to configure this the other way around? Show all apps on lock, instead of the apps I don't want?
- Bluetooth Audio volume is not controllable through the phone. The sound volumes are separate, one on my headset and the phone. Any way to link these back together, like the feature added in Android 6, if I'm correct? Although, I'm able to see the charge of my headset. That's new, so I wonder why the volume isn't linked.
I've been used to Android Oreo/Nougat on the Nexus 6P and find these issues above really counterproductive and I'll lose the overview fast this way. Is this just me, or is this really different then the AOSP?
And if so, any idea how I can fix this? Is there something baked into EMUI that would fix this, or will a APP/ROM be the only solution? (although, I don't hope so) I have searched the web, but I wasn't able to find relation questions.
Oh, I'm having the MHA-L09 (with MHA-L09C432B126).
Thanks in advance!

App Specific Notification Sounds Issue - Oreo or EMUI?

I'd settled on the View 10 after previously returning the G6 and OP5T last year. Here in the UK, it seemed a good compromise on features and price. Having had it a couple of days I'm trying to get a handle on its quirks and oddities.
Prior to Oreo, I'd been used to app notifications functioning as you'd expect. On the View 10 things are a bit different. Well, fair enough. However, I'm finding that some apps, an example being Sky News, just make the phone wide default notification sound rather than their own dedicated one. The Sky 'breaking news' one is very distinctive.
Now I've had a look in the settings, both of EMUI and the app, and there's no way to choose or set it correctly. The Inability to choose custom tones/alerts appears, across a swath of apps, to be something of a bugbear for all Oreo users. But here I'm wondering if EMUI is equally to blame as their implementation seems less than perfect. That said Sky could do with updating their app to make it more Oreo friendly.
So have other owners had any specific notification issues?
What's the solution? Well I'm going to try NotifiCon and see how effective that is. Although if I want the same notifications as before I'll have to root to locate the audio file(s).
My tolerance for bugs / quirks is reasonable just as long as they don't constantly impact my usage. That said I've already had my fingerprints go missing in a day and some notifications not appearing on the lockscreen. Further nagging problems won't be welcome.
I'm having the same problem with Viber.
I sent them an email, they investigated and told me this is EMUI 8.0 issue.
Honor/Huawei tends to do some weird things with their OS unfortunately.
NotifiCon
Im using NotifiCon on my Honar 10 but cant get it to send sound notifications when screen is locked
FYI, this is an issue that I too found very annoying. IIRC the issue was that in Oreo the sound settings had been moved out of the individual apps themselves and into the notification settings. However, it appeared that Honor/Huawei had not implemented this correctly within their take on Android 8/EMUI8. I updated my View 10 to Android 9/EMUI9 yesterday and I can confirm that the notification management has now been properly implemented which not only means that it is now possible to set different custom notification sounds for different apps, but also where an app supports it you can set multiple sounds for different notification types within a single app.
If you want to update to Pie there is a threads that details how to force the update... https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-view-10/development/tool-huaweiupdater-update-to-emui-9-t3884904

General Sounds and vibration question.

On my s22 Ultra, I can change my ringtone and notification sound and it seems to retain my selections. After a bit of time, my selections will change back to whatever the phone wants, not what I selected. Is there some way to make it save my selections permanently? I tried searching but may not have been searching the right way. Thanks......
Nevermind, what I thought about was that I have used a program called Sound Profile Pro on my past two samsung cells. When I smart switched from my Note 9 to my S22 Ultra, the process didn't get the ring tones and notifications settings to transfer properly. Was going to try to delete my original post but thought this may possibly help someone else who might have a brain fart like I did.

Searching for non-root ultimate notification control from GravityBox

Hello,
I am looking for a way to better control the notifications on my phone but without root. I am not looking for one particular option from GravityBox which is to set a time frame in which the phone will not repeat a notification sound or vibration if an app wants to do it in that particular time frame more than one time.
An example for it will be if there is a person who sends you 6 messages one after another in a short period of time or likes 6 posts that you have sent them via Instagram. All 6 notifications will be played back and shown on the phone which is kinda irritating. Do you know any alternative that could achieve this without rooting?
Thank you
