Hello everyone, I was given a boss bv755b head unit and I was wondering if there is any way to customize the unit. I have seen some other units with the same model number, however, the OS looks somewhat different. Basically the other models look better when it comes to OS.
Also, is there a way to extract current firmware so it can be modified?

Anyone aware of any 7" Android Car Stereo's out yet? Looking for one that's been rooted and has some development behind it so I can install custom roms. I'm assuming the answer is no. I've seen some of the cheap no name brand units out there, but they'll often either be junk or run an old version of Android with no way of upgrading. Anything decent out there?
Thanks
I'm buying one of these from China which run android 4.2.2. I think these Eonon units used to run with WinCE in the background but they are now pure android with their own car home layover.
Does anyone know if these have been rooted/romd yet or if not is anyone interested in trying?

Nope. We don't deal alot with China based devices due to them lieing about hardware and lack of kernel source.
FYI for anyone searching for this:
Eonon units are the same type of units discussed in the HuiFei thread, root and roms are available. There are details in the first post to determine your MCU, how to root, and available roms.
Hey guys. I'm looking for a head unit to put into my Volkswagen Rabbit. Out of all the OEM-look Chinese units, I like this one the best because it looks most like OEM. Here's the link: http://audiosources.net/prod_view.aspx?TypeId=50017&Id=224&FId=t3:50017:3
I'm not too sure how these android HU's work. Do custom ROMs, theming, etc still apply or is this a whole different thing? Can you update the firmware like you would with an android phone? Any info you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated!
I have talked with a few Chinese suppliers, and know that the 6.0 head units are on there way. I am having a hard time pinning down a specific release date, but I do have in writing we should see the new units by the end of this month (October).
I'm not sure if we will get a better CPU, but they should all be coming with 2gb of RAM, and be running 6.0
Not being a dev, I'm not sure if that will really be of any huge benefit or not... But I'm guessing the standard improvements from 5 to 6 will be present.
Just putting this out there, in case some individuals are thinking of getting a new head unit. If the CPUs aren't changing, I imagine it will be simple enough to flash most of the older units with 6.0 anyways, when we have an official ROM.
All this aside, I think I'm going to switch to the AVH-4200NEX either way =)
Interesting, noting new unfortunately see Joying posts "due october" then, maybe later
Also beware of the Pumpkin 6.0 units right now.
They say they are running 6 but there are lots of clues that it's a hacked up KitKat 4.4 install.
Saw ownice have one for my car. Not sure if it's legit or not:

Even have 4g lte built in..
Hello,
I received one of the new Android 6.0.1 Pumpkin radios (SKU: 27-AQVW71):
http://www.autopumpkin.com/android-...fi-usb-sd-dvr-obd-steering-wheel-control.html
I'm not yet very happy with it. Seems to have some problems:
- No paid apps from play store can be installed
- Steering wheel control not working at all
- PDC not fully working
I wonder if I can install a custom ROM. Tried to find out MCU and processor. But "Settings - About device" doesn't give anymore detailed information, only "Build number K2001_JC_S212103.20160812.14592646".
But I found something in the "car settings". There is "APPVER K2001_JC_S212103.20160812.14592646.N0011", "PlatformVER K20-2016/08/08[15:24:12]-4.04", "BTVER GOCBC8_V1.0/2016:06:28:14:48:31" and "MCUVER V1.3-FF01-20160812-A02-CAN0000-DVD01044101 TYP99"

Nothing about RK3188 or RK3066 as processor or on of the MCU listed here:

Attached some more information from CPU-Z.

Is this a completely new hardware where no custom ROMs are available yet?
Regards,
Klaus
Klaus. You're running an allwinner a23 1.5ghz mali-400 quad core, from the looks of it. Not a very great chip. Surprised it's running 6.0.1 properly.
I wish I could give you other details. Chances are you could root and ROM it. There should be builds available, that's a common generic CPU.
When are these Chinese HU going to get anything decent in them???
The new ownice C500 is listed with a Cortex-A53. Does someone know how good that is?
Also it would be interesting to know what LTE frequencies are supported.
It has 2 GB Ram and Android 6 and is currently available for just 274 EUR as a mobile only deal (41% off). Seems like a really good offer, or what do you think?

Hello!
I was wondering if anyone has heard of these devices Gen2i or Gen3 being rooted with a custom android room or linux distro. A lot of these things around not getting repurposed just garbaged, wondering if they are good for anything else.
Thanks!

sorry to bump an older thread, but I'm very interested in this as well. My employer has at least five or six of the older Gen2i pods that are just collecting dust. Mersive did not want them back when we upgraded to Gen3 pods, and I'd hate to throw them to ewaste. From what I understand they're just running a custom Android ROM. In theory we should be able to flash a stock Android ROM to it and potentially use it as an Android TV box, or something similar. I'd love to learn how to do this and avoid having these totally usable little devices end up in a landfill.
I took one of our Gen2i Pods apart and it appears to be SK hynix branded, but I couldn't find anything on this in a Google search. This is beyond my level of expertise so I'm very much out of my element here. I'd be interested and appreciative in any info anyone is able to provide.
From what I can make out, it states "sk hynix h9cknnndbtmt arnth 515a"
