Anyone aware of any 7" Android Car Stereo's out yet? Looking for one that's been rooted and has some development behind it so I can install custom roms. I'm assuming the answer is no. I've seen some of the cheap no name brand units out there, but they'll often either be junk or run an old version of Android with no way of upgrading. Anything decent out there?
Thanks

And I'm honestly thinking about getting the Grid10. The Grid10 + case + USB cable is still $20 less than the Transformer (without a case, or the dock), which was the other tablet I'm considering.
Is there any reason I shouldn't get the Grid10? Better price point for similar specs. It can sideload Android APKs, and it uses the Amazon App Store, and the OS is something that really seems to flow nicely in all the hands on videos I've seen.
Since it's based on the Android kernel, it won't be another Playbook or Touchpad, since all Android apps theoretically work on the Grid10. The only thing I'm worried about is all the negative comments I've been reading about Fusion Garage and their previous tablet. I already know I'd enjoy an Android tablet.
I am currently the owner of an original Galaxy Tab, so really, anything is an upgrade at this point (Not having a tablet OS on a tablet is really awful)
This will be my next tablet, I have been watching the Grid10 for a while now. It looks smooth and responsive to the touch. I currently own the touchpad and an Android tablet. I am planning on getting the 3g version. Fast enough for me.
On the @FusionGarage twitter, I asked a few qustions that I've been unable to find answers to:
"@FusionGarage Quick question, is the usb cable a must? Can you sync/transfer files via wifi? "
Reply: "@steckums We are currently working on an application that will sync your content via WiFi, but right now you need the USB cable. "
"@FusionGarage Good to hear. One more: how compatible is it with Android APKs? Is it essentially able to sideload any (honeycomb!?) app?"
Reply: "@steckums Yes, you can sideload any Android app, including Honeycomb apps."

does anyone here have modded rom for this china tablet
APAD2 with call function
i am planning to buy by the end of the month and i want it flashed with better firmware.
please someone help me
So I have heard that GridOS is based on android 2.3. If that is the case how are they running any honeycomb apps? My guess is that older versions of GridOS (pre-production) were based on 2.3 and the production version is based on honeycomb. What are other people's thoughts on this?
I bought the wifi only version - it should arrive tomorrow. I've just read a less than stunning review from Engadget though, so now I'm leery...
Hey everyone. I hope this is the right place, but i couldnt find an android head unit thread lol.
So I've been looking at THIS as an option for my 2012 Chevrolet Cruze. I have the stock deck with no extras but AUX. I plan on having this car until it dies so I would love to invest in something like this. The reason I chose this one as its the only one i found running a relatively "newer" version of android and its stock, No launchers or themes. My biggest concern is that CPU. I can't seem to find ANY info on the "Tcc8925 1.2G dual core" cpu. Can anyone give me some insight into its performance etc? RAM seems like it will be more than enough for what I need. My plan is to use Car Home Ultra with everything I need right there, completely customized. I have contacted the seller to make sure its plug and play with my NA Cruze.
If I could root this thing, or unlock the BL and get a good ROM running on it I would be in heaven!
Thanks!
Anyone? Lol

I'm buying one of these from China which run android 4.2.2. I think these Eonon units used to run with WinCE in the background but they are now pure android with their own car home layover.
Does anyone know if these have been rooted/romd yet or if not is anyone interested in trying?
http://m.eonon.com/productshow.aspx?pno=GA5167
Nope. We don't deal alot with China based devices due to them lieing about hardware and lack of kernel source.
FYI for anyone searching for this:
Eonon units are the same type of units discussed in the HuiFei thread, root and roms are available. There are details in the first post to determine your MCU, how to root, and available roms.
So, I was at Menards a couple weeks back and saw a generic looking android set top box for around 30$, and so I came here, and find there are a few different kinds of chips that they may use, so... my first question is...
What are the differences between those chips, which is the best, and how can you tell before purchasing, what you are buying, as well as how to buy a good one, as in what to look for, to avoid a bad purchase, and what specs to look for
The next question is, once I buy a generic looking set top box,(the one I saw was labeled abx-12 as a model) how easy is it to find roms for them, and will one rom work on them all
To be fair, I do know about phones, but im out of my depths here, but would like to get into set top boxes, and possibly putting custom roms like resurrection remix (my favorite), on them... i would like this thread to eventually be a guide for every set top newbie, such as myself, and this is the best android modding, and well, anything android, website in my opinion... if these answers can be found elsewhere on this site, condensed into a single thread, please link it, else, if you guys can help me and others like me, I would appreciate it...
I edited it with the right model... i put upx 12, when it was abx 12...
Oh... and id also like to know how much android version matters in set top box discussions as well...
Here's the link to the one I saw at Menards...

i just picked this QFX ABX-12 cheapo ATV box at Menards on Clearance for $20.
Pretty much what i expected, pos china thing.
the rom that is on it is ancient android 7.1 from 2018.
update does not work.
came searching here on XDA to see if maybe someone had easy way to root/re-flash this model box and put a decent ATV rom on it, newer os at least.
but, seems no one cares about these cheap china no name boxes.
Hi, you woukd need to find out what SOC is in your box (amlogic, rockchip ect...) and what model (s905x, s905w ect...) or what bootloade (eg p212, p281 ect...)
The QFX ABX-12 uses the Amlogic S905X, has 1 GB RAM and 8 GB flash. At $25 I might grab one just to mess around with.
I picked up a Transpeed_6k from a Chinese supplier for under €30 to play around with an as a stopgap for my dead Humax box. It runs Android 9.0, has 4GB/64GB memory. CPU-Z tells me that the SOC is Allwinner H6 @ 1.49 GHz, with 4 ARM A53 cores. Bootloader is unknown and no root.
The operation is fast, but the navigation is painful - you have to constantly toggle the mouse mode on and off and you can't scroll the screen. I contacted the supplier because the lack of scrolling prevents Netflix from working. The solution was to install a previous version of the Netflix app. It's still awkward to use. BBC iplayer works with limited scrolling which means you have to use the search function to find TV shows.
I also thought of maybe using it as a Chromecast receiver (like my Mi TV stick does), so I installed Allcast Receiver, but it wouldn't work.
I've also tried using a phone as an external mouse, but that too doesn't let you scroll.
That's it. I haven't managed to find any way of changing the ROM or OS. I suppose not many people are spending time on these boxes.
Hello!
I was wondering if anyone has heard of these devices Gen2i or Gen3 being rooted with a custom android room or linux distro. A lot of these things around not getting repurposed just garbaged, wondering if they are good for anything else.
Thanks!

sorry to bump an older thread, but I'm very interested in this as well. My employer has at least five or six of the older Gen2i pods that are just collecting dust. Mersive did not want them back when we upgraded to Gen3 pods, and I'd hate to throw them to ewaste. From what I understand they're just running a custom Android ROM. In theory we should be able to flash a stock Android ROM to it and potentially use it as an Android TV box, or something similar. I'd love to learn how to do this and avoid having these totally usable little devices end up in a landfill.
I took one of our Gen2i Pods apart and it appears to be SK hynix branded, but I couldn't find anything on this in a Google search. This is beyond my level of expertise so I'm very much out of my element here. I'd be interested and appreciative in any info anyone is able to provide.
From what I can make out, it states "sk hynix h9cknnndbtmt arnth 515a"
