Not getting OTA - Sony Xperia 5 II Questions & Answers

Hey there
so when I got my device I flashed it with newflasher to the Customised UK Version from the Customised EEA version
Howerver in the software information in the service menu it still shows EEA version and thus i'm not getting OTA's
Weridest part is I flashed the latest May factory image so I have that May update but i'm still on the EEA version but it's not even out yet? any ideas on how to fix this so I actually get OTA again?

I am actually having the same problem, hopefully someone can chime in

Same here, no idea how to fix it. Seems flashing new versions from Xperifirm is the only way forward

Software update alert even on latest firmware

Recently flashed the UK customised 264 firmware here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/d6603-xperia-z3-23-4-1-264-uk-versions-t3286676
However, after flashing I keep getting the notification that new firmware is available, but it's the same 264 firmware. Has anyone else experienced this? I've flashed this twice now and same issue each time, and would rather not install the branded versions. Is it possible the firmware itself is buggy? I've had numerous issues with my SD card repeatedly unmounting, and the phone restarting since flashing this pre-rooted firmware.
Cheers.
It happens to all other firmwares as well.
As far as I know, that update is for the Update Centre app, not the actual Android System.

Manually updating to Oreo

Hi.
I have a G955U Galaxy S8+ AT&T Factory Unlocked on Android 7.0
Baseband Version: G955USQU1AQD9
Android Security Patch Level - April 1, 2017
I no longer live in the US, and currently in the Philippines. Phone works great and the signal is too and all, but I cannot get OTA updates.
Can I just download the firmware file in this thread and flash straight through ODIN, or do I need to follow another guide?
Thanks in advance
You can, however there are specific sequences to follow, so you have to update in firmware released order.
I encountered the same problem so I downloaded odin that worked for Nougat and loaded all version to BRB1 I think it is and then went to Oreo. Currently on CRC5.
Another note, when you are about to hit Oreo you will need to download the odin that works for Oreo. It can be found in the CRC5 thread.
Happy Updating

Is this really necessary?
I want to update to Oreo as well but since I'm AT&T unlocked and not currently using AT&T network I'm stuck in the June software update so I'll have to flash like 7-8 firmware updates and each one being about 2-3 GB to download.
Also, is there any stock Samsung firmware I can download so I can avoid having to manually flash every software update? Or am I just stuck with the AT&T firmware?
Thanks in advance.
I'm also having this problem. Need to flash the updates through ODIN but I can't find every single stock file leading up to BR9 on this site. Do I really have flash them all? Or is there another way?

US Galaxy S8+ OTA software update not working / alternative way. SOLVED

What I want to do: I was trying to OTA update my phone software to the latest, but it seems I am behind on many updates. On the AT&T website, I saw that I need the previous updates installed first, in order to get the latest ones. I have to go in order.
Problem: Everytime I try to do a software update from the settings, it says “Current software is up to date.” It’s been saying that for over a year now. I can’t even get the updates from last year.
So is there a way I can flash one of the stock firmware updates from last year on to my phone with Odin and see if it will fix the ‘over the air’ updates? Or can I just skip to the most recent firmware and flash that one.
By the way, I have never done anything like this to my phone before, so I am a bit nervous, but I want to get this problem fixed so I would love if someone helped me out. I did see some articles online about flashing stock firmwares, that’s how I learned about Odin.
If this is doable, can someone please link me to a thorough tutorial on this process? If it isn’t, can you guys recommend another way of getting to the latest 8.0 stock firmware?
My phone right now:

If you are using the AT&T S8+ outside of the USA, you will not get any OTA updates due to AT&T update policy. What you want to do is flash the Unlocked firmware and you will be good. Search for carrier switching thread and follow it.

Question Changing from Global Rom to EU solved(ish)

Hi guys,
So I got the chinese variant of the OnePlus 9 - LE2110. It came with a global Rom already installed. I'm currently on os 11.2.2.2 LE25DA.
I've been reading through the forums and I'm not sure what I need to download exactly to get this over to EU Rom. I think I also saw that I need to let this update first as it's prompting me to install 11.2.7.7. Things are changing so fast with this phone in terms of recent otas and root options that I'm concerned I'll use a dated method that could brick my phone.
Does someone know what file I need to flash on this and how? Also should I upgrade first. At the moment I'm downloading a zip of this but I'm not sure if this is correct :
11.2.6.6
OnePlus9Oxygen_22.E.09_GLO_0090_2105252341
Thanks in advance for any help or pointers

Achieved it - as another user posted in another post. Set your device to EU before you update in the oxygen updater app.
But what was not mentioned is If you are just setting up, you also need to allow advanced settings in the updater. Otherwise I was getting a warning message telling me I have selected the wrong device.
Just updated using the updater with the device set to EU and I have BA version
Hey! I'm in the same spot as you were, but I updated it to 11.2.7.7.LE25DA. I also have the CN version. Do I have to wait to the next update to move from global to EU, or is there any option to change it now?
Thanks!

That was my understanding. However I've been having reception issues that I did not have with a CN huaweii I had before this phone so I'm thinking it might be the EU rom I flashed, which would be odd as I'm in Ireland.
,
Anyway, even though I changed my phone from oneplus 9 (eu) to just oneplus 9 in the updater, I am prompted to download 11.2.7.7 - even though that's what I'm currently on.
Anyone know if this is just the global version of 11.2.7.7? This would mean I would not have to wait for the next update though.

Regarding the reception issues, bugs are always possible, or maybe the antenna isn't as strong as your previous phone. From https://www.kimovil.com/ I can see that your Chinese variant should be perfectly fine in Ireland. I would recommend that you reach out to oneplus support, what you've done so far is not breaching warranty restrictions.
Otherwise the "nuclear option" is to use an msm tool to reset your device, including the "modem" (or EFS?) partition which controls certain hardware-related functionality. This is because I'm quite certain they don't change when flashing any of the standard update images (not even a "full" update). Not sure an msm tool is available for your Chinese hardware variant. This is also becoming more risky and not sure how desperate you are.

You said yourself that you're running EU version but have set the app to check for "global", so I'm a bit confused by your confusion. If you want to stay on eu branch, then tell the app that your device is eu.

Cheers, thanks for all that info. I may just live with it, I don't think it's bad enough to warrant messing around with MSM tools. The reception issues seems to only happen when I'm travelling across the county and probably switching towers.
Sorry if my post is a little confusing. What I'm trying to say is I'm having reception issues while on EU rom. So I thought if I change back to global rom this might fix the reception issue. I thought I could only do this if there was an update available. I changed my phone to global on the update and it says there is an update available even though it's the same software version, that's all.
Do you think changing back to Global could fix it?

I see, I highly doubt it, but it's a low-risk experiment and only a bit of fuss waiting for the download and update, so probably worth a shot. Not to mention the fuss to come back to eu version if it didn't help.
And to be clear about the app, I guess the app was then just telling you about the latest relevant image matching your preference, the "advanced mode" should probably be turned off once you've settled on the region of choice. It's only giving you persistent notifications, so it's not helpful and also quite distracting in the long term.

thanks, and yes regarding the app, I thought it was prompting me to install the same version of the software but for the global variant, this is not the case if you try it locally. I saw an option to flash it via the root method but this required twrp. Trying to install twrp at the moment but having an issue with the boot twrp.img command. anyway, if there's an easier way any pointers would be great but thanks for your help.
I'm also thinking if my connection issue persists I will get in touch with oneplus like you said - this is not an issue I should be having with this caliber of a phone.
If I get the global rom on, and make the same journey to test it, I will circle back here to let you know how I got on.
Cheers
What are the differences between the global and EU roms? Are there any benefits to using one over the other?

Not a lot, if any. On DA I'm getting the odd one plus notification from the updater or cloud services that I didn't get from EU. Otherwise it's the same rom. I'm testing the different variants to see if it makes any difference to signal strength (which it doesn't by the way).
I'm likely to revert back to EU rom because they say updates are quicker for it and 'should' be better in terms of gdpr issues. But they're basically the same (from what I can see).
So, just to be sure. Now that 11.2.8.8 has been released, I have to switch my phone in Oxygen Updater to EU version and full update? That's it?

Installing ROM and Changing Firmware

Good evening ladies and gents,
I got a phone today from Amazon Galaxy Note 10 Plus. SM-N975F/DS.
Got it activated on AT&T which took a bit of trickery but finally got it activated.
So now I am in the process of rooting it and noticed that there are many region specific firmware (you have to use Magisk to patch the firmware (the .md5)). For example mine is N975FXXU6FUCD-MID which was difficult to find and difficult to identify. I have located this (MID) region and its Iraq. As I type this that exact firmware is downloading from SMAMOBILE. I will be flashing a custom ROM within the next few hours. I was wondering tho, since there is no USA Firmware version, will the custom ROM change the firmware thus rendering this entire post irrelevant? Does the firmware matter if the phone is activated and functioning, or is there anything else anyone would suggest? For example should I flash a firmware from perhaps Mexico since its the same continent?
I ask because as I stated above, I am downloading the N975FXXU6FUCD-MID firmware now, and I have to use Magisk to patch the firmware so I just figured I would patch the exact same firmware that is on the phone currently but should i patch a different firmware instead?
Anyway, If anyone has any insight into this I'd love to hear it. Thank you!
