T-Mobile SM-N986U Connectivity Issues - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra Questions & Answers

Ever since I purchased this phone back in September I've constantly had issues with my data connection.
Some days are worse than others, but days like today I have to cycle airplane mode every few minutes just to get connected again.
Technical support initially thought it was my SIM so I got the R5 sim but the issue wasn't resolved. I also did the reset of all network connections as well to no avail.
These issues make the phone downright infuriating to use many times a day. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction for a solution

Ive had every note since the 8 and one plus since they offered them on TMobile. I also have the Xperia 1 ii and pixel 4s.
Every single phone beats the Samsung's in signal. It's a Samsung thing.

Don't think it's a Samsung thing! I've had Samsung and Notes since the Note 2 and live in the country quite away from any towers. Still getting 80Mbps on 5G just the same as my OnePlus 7 Pro. Have you checked with T-Mobile and made sure the correct APN is assigned?

S6 active loses network??

I am currently on my 3rd Samsung s6 active in less then 2 months. My problem is the phones work fine for about 2-3 weeks then just out of the blue it drops the network. The only way I know to get the network back is to restart the phone. The problem occurs nearly every 12 hours and progresses an hour later each day. I don't have hardly any apps installed and I didn't do anything prior to the problem happening. I did notice this last time it happened the signal strength on the sim card under Sim Status was reading -51dbm when it's usually reading around -100dbm or so. My carrier is AT&T and they had me replace the sim card once with the first phone. We've been with AT&T for nearly 20 years with no problems. I have 4 other phones on my plan with 2 of them being smart phones & both Samsungs but different models and they have no problems. The way it's acting makes me think it's more of a software issue then a hardware problem. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Is there any type of "event log" I can look at to see if something changed when this began?
Thank you in advance for any help.
Received my 4th PHONE yesterday and tonight it has already dropped the network!! AT&T says they can only replace the problem phone with the same model so according to the last guy I talked to a different model is out of the question. I call BS on that, I am totally fed up with this crappy phone and after nearly 20years of being at&t's customer I am getting fed up with this runaround as well. Perhaps it's time to switch carriers. For all of you that actually read my post, thank you for at least looking at it. Since no one had any suggestions I'm done. Considered this post closed, thanks.

Question Sprint, t-mobile Watch 4 problems with LTE

Thanks for taking a look. I have an S21, Galaxy Watch 4 (bought directly from Samsung) on A Sprint account with T-Mobile sim in the phone. I went to the sprint/tmo store and they tried everything to get the watch linked. They even rolled me back to a sprint sim and tried. They seemed assured that the watch LTE was working but just would not link. The watch was reset. It still just says searching for the network in the pull down page. Has anyone else seen this issue? I have to determine if I am sending this back or not.
Thanks,
Zar
Had the same issue with my sprint note 20 ultra 5g and my watch 4 classic lte. My note is also running a T-Mobile Sim which I initially thought was the problem. When I received the pre-order watch 4 and tried to activate it nothing would work. Paired and reset the watch and phone. Nothing worked so I called sprint. They said that i would need to return the watch to best buy and get another. I decided to wait a few days and see if the IMEI number would pickup and sure enough it did through the Samsung wearable app without the need for CS. I wonder if T-Mobile just has not received the latest updates from Samsung about recently produced devices and their IMEI numbers (just a guess. Maybe I am wrong). This happened to me before when I has bought the first Sony Ericson phone that came with BT. Give it a few days and try again when on a strong T-Mobile signal.
Unfortunatly, that was not the case. I just heard today that they are having issues activating Apple and Samsung watches. I bought a watch directly from Sprint and they still could not get it working. The store has a ticket open with sprint and another with samsung to see if they can get it wokring but so far, 2 watches are not working.
Just got the call from Sprint/Tmo. They give up, even on the watch that they sold me. They are unable to activate the watch on my account. This was almost 10 hours in the store and another 5 hours working with Samsung to get it tested and then agree to take the one I bought on Samsung.com back without a charge. My options are now to buy one that has no LTE or keep the one from Sprint and hope that they will one day be able to get it working. Anyone got a good Sprint store near them in So Cal that might have better techs?
For any one still searching, Verizon and LTE problems on Wacth 4 are huge. I bought my watch new and as of Nov-Dec 2022 this issue is quite bad. 3 times the watch was sent to Samsung itself for repair. They replace the LTE chip the first time, and the main board the second time (who knows if they really did it ! ). 3rd time they tried to fix, and then I requested a full refund. They me back the original retail price. However, it was 2 months of daily agony talking to Verizon and talking to Samsung, sending the watch multiple times etc.
There is a large thread on Verizon forum on the LTE activation problems. The Samsung Watch 4 Classic is having these LTE problems across the spectrum.....it is a lottery depending what works and what doesn't.
Interestingly, I went back to Watch 3 and it did everything instantly on my phone. Go figure !

Verizon Note 20 Ultra losing signal/network connection.

I bought new, a Note 20 Ultra through Verizon. Less than a week in it would lose all network signal, show no signal bars and an X where the signal strength is displayed.
Went to A Verizon store, the tech said yeah it's a known problem with the Note 20 Ultra. He instructed me to download the Samsung band switcher app and select "all LTE". I did that and was still losing connection.
I was still within my 14 day return window so I went to a different Verizon store and returned it and got a new Note 20 Ultra....SAME THING!
I called Verizon, went through all the tech suggestions.. reset network settings, factory reset but nothing worked.
Called Verizon back raising #@$, I just paid $1200 for a phone that cant go a day without losing signal or dropping calls. I didn't think it would be any different but I requested ANOTHER Note 20.
they send me a refurbished Note 20 Ultra and it has the same problem.
Does anyone have any insight on this? Are all Note 20 Ultras this bad? If so, is there anything as far as hacks or user learned tricks/mods that fixes this?
Sorry for the long post and thanks for reading. Really frustrated....

Question Pixel 7 Pro losing cellular connection and unable to reconnect

I live in Boston metro area with abundant LTE/5G coverage, but drive through two nearly dead zones, each of them lasts just a few seconds. My previous phone would not stop YouTube playback going through those areas. My Pixel 7 Pro loses connection for ~5 minutes completely and then reconnects via EDGE even though strong 5G is available. I have to toggle the airplane mode for it to connect to the correct network.
I'm on Mint/T-Mobile and this has been happening every day. Is it a software bug or is my Pixel defective? Thanks for any ideas, I still have a week to decide if I should return it
I used to have this same exact issue with my pixel 6 pro and wouldn't be fixed no matter what I did. I traded it in for my p7p and haven't had that issue since. You should replace it while you can and hopefully it won't happen again
I have the same problem. Whenever there's a slight interruption of service the Pixel can't reconnect for minutes. I have to enable and disable airplane mode a couple times.
Bonus, if I just leave it it disconnects from the network randomly. I miss A LOT of calls. And people tell me that the calls take a long time to connect either way.
I'll be returning it if it doesn't get an update in a week or so.

I don't know if this will help, but...
I believe EDGE uses 2G. Maybe turn off "Allow 2G" in Settings>Network & internet>Sims>Allow 2G. Hopefully this will stop it from connecting to EDGE and instead connect back to your strong 5G or LTE.
Thanks, I'll give it a shot.
It still takes a long time before it connects to the 2G network and all I see is an exclamation mark next to zero bars.
If you have taken the .031 update, which fixed that issue for me, then it's possible you may have a defective unit. I have had zero issues with signal handoff and I'm even taxing the modem even more by running dual SIM in DSDS mode. I have been incredibly happy with this device's reception. I would even say it's been better than my OnePlus 9 with the X60 modem as 5G standby drained my battery super fast, about 1.6%/hr in a high signal area, compared to half that on my 7 Pro with dual SIM active.
The system is up to date. Not sure what else I can do. I'm not interested in installing unstable nightly updates.

I got my phone on release day and there was an update waiting to go to TD1A.220804.031. Until I took that update I was seeing that ! every 10 minutes or so. It was pretty bad. Haven't seen it since unless I'm switching my SIMs around.

Oh I'm on the beta as Android Auto wouldn't work on that one. It got better after I reset Carrier Services but it still has issues.
I'm losing calls, they just don't connect, even on 4G LTE with full bars. A friend has the same thing. These things are not ok.

I'm on the beta as well and still having no connectivity problems so I guess I should consider myself lucky. The worst I have is some outsized drain when I have a weak signal but it's still not terrible (about 2.2%/hr in my partner's basement).

This issue happens to me from time to time too. Weird but mine shipped with .031 (picked up on 10/21 at best buy). But I guess it was worse before that.
Were you able to fix this? I have the same issue, the phone is just unusable. Such a shame as I really like the device...
I came from a OnePlus 8 Pro (what a great phone BTW), and found the Pixel 6 Pro had worse connectivity. The Pixel 7 Pro seems to have fixed all that and some bluetooth issues I was having with certain headsets on the Pixel 6 Pro.
One trick on any modern 5G phone -- if you are having issues -- the switching between 5G, 5G UC, and LTE can be disruptive. If this is constantly happening just switch it to LTE, chances are you'll get better reception and at the same or even faster speeds.
For example, a Six Flags a few weeks ago, 5G was constant problems while forcing LTE worked fine 100% of the time.
I've tried switching off 5g, switching off 2g, switched off adaptive connectivity...no results, still useless

How about your APN settings? Have you tried a network reset? If none of those things helps you may have a defective phone! It can happen with any brand.

Yes, tried resetting the APN as well, also swapped esim and sim to another phone and works flawlessly...it may be a defective unit but there are many users complaining so there has to be a lot of defective units...

Well, I am not using an esim with a psim. Only a psim here and running on Mint (T-Mobile) and I have zero issues. Either some setting, or conflicting network settings between the two sims...OR a defective phone is your issue. I would bet dimes-to-dollars that it is NOT the phone. YMMV
Hmm happy to see i am not alone...... I have already post on this forum for this same pb.
I am full 4G....i try to make a call, instantly when i push call button, lose connection....must wait and maybe 4G and more in EDGE.
When i am in 4G impossible to call or receive....
So i have a phone with impossible to call or receive.......
SO NICE ????
For me, i am sure is the last F/W (31) who suck.
Why ?
Because, my phone work, after upate (31) just after reboot must wait 7 min to have network...never before....
SO last week end, i will downgrade to first F/W (A2)
Problem is solved for me.
I have locked all automatic update in developper menu.
Sometimes i have notification for update, but i don't care..........
Incredible but work for me, i think you must try...i don't see another solution for this ****ing problem
I had use the official tool : https://flash.android.com/
Sounds like a work around, how do you downgrade?

I have problems with the mobile reception on my S22 Ultra on Vodafone UK.
I am trying to find out the correct firmware for my provider and to flash it without resetting my phone.
What router do you use, check its settings. Does mobile reception improve when you are outside?
You are using exynos right?
My wife's first S22 Ultra had horrible connection. Most times she couldn't receive or make any calls. That went on for about 2 months. Went back to Tmo and used the warranty and they shipped us another one. The new one works perfectly as it should have.
I would recommend that if you are having connection issues, contact the carrier/customer service and use the warranty, should be a year. In my wife's situation, the connection issue was the beginning of the phone not working at all. Samsung knows about their hardware issue and hasn't addressed it properly. Its a hardware issue
I have not had a issue with reception once since getting this phone from Samsung.. It is on T-Mobile. No issues with my home router either.

I had S22U half year and from few months I was problems with connection, don't recive messages or messages with trying calls for me in t-mobile Poland.
I put sim card to fold 2 and little smaller but again similar problems, change sim card and again.
Then I change my carrier operator and from 2 months everything works perfect with fold 2.
Now my s22U have girlfriend and too everything works good with her carrier (of course no t-mobile)
In my case issues were with t-mobile. I see a lot opinions who have connection issues have t-mobile and does not matter country.

no mate snapdragon edition
US unlocked on TMobile here. I have fantastic reception both on wifi and network.
If you're genuinely getting 1/10th of the speed on your S22U on the same network as other phones, then that sounds like a hardware issue and a warranty replacement.

Then you need to swap the device. If you had Problems with another Smartphone change your carrier. My snapdragon has very good reception. My exynos has weak singal but its okay use it only as Backup phone
