Crazy ****... I NEVER would have seen that coming :-(
Really bad for the US cellular industry.

Was just about to post this.
I think it will be good for us if AT&T decides to add their frequencies to T-Mobile's towers. The purchase is expected to take a year and I wonder if it will be blocked by the SEC.
Does that mean AT&T wireless can actually get worse, now that they will (supposedly) gobble up t-mobile?

Well in "the old days" I would have seen the SEC letting this go about as far as I can throw it, but after changing the laws to allow comcast to become the mega-carrier they are, they'll let this one through as well.
Very unfortunate given that T-Mobile at least has drive to create a decent product.
I guess the old saying is true, if you can't beat em, buy em, lol

It can gets LOTS worse, hehe. I worked for T-Mo at corp during the formation through mergers in 2001... it was UGLY.

In my experience, T-Mo had far LESS than AT&T, tho it's been 5 years since I had T-Mo. With T-Mo, they have so many roaming agreements you can drive across the country and have fairly reliable service the entire way. Not the case with Big Red or Big Mama Blue.

I know a few people that are stuck with t-mobile. All I hear them complain about, is dropped calls. T-mobile data speeds aren't bad from what I can tell. I think t-mobile has better 4G coverage. Is this true?

They have about a year head start on HSPA+, but that's about it. No clear direction on LTE tho, so I guess this was written...
Big pink and big blue got hitched! LOL
I'm sure T-mobile customers are jumping for joy after they read this news.
I'm seeing this as being one step closer to getting rid of CDMA.
I wish Cell Phones worked the way they do in Europe. We have too much fragmentation and carrier control in the US.
I have a friend on T-Mobile and he likes the data speeds but the coverage of phone service itself apparently isnt that great all i hear about his how much he complains!!!
Here is some more info from engadget
http://www.engadget.com/photos/atandt-t-mobile-lte-buildout-slides-0/#3984852
Edit: I also read somewhere that it may take a year for this to complete. So no new changes for a while.
NICE!!!!!
I have been to places where there are only tmobile signals! (i did a network search, only tmobile pop up!), but i'm unable to connect cus att wont allow it! i guess this merger will change that!
this means that now after it is complete, we will be able to access t-mobiles hspa+ network with our inspires right? this is great news if we can b/c t-mobiles roll out of hspa+ is far greater than at&t's as of now
Least they will have a larger hspa plus network

so this is the trick that att will use to increase their 4g network. LOL i guess when they started rolling out the 4g they ment it would be ready NEXT year! LOL

hey guys. I've been in this love/hate relationship with Verizon for a long time now and am kinda done with them. I was wondering if anyone knew what carrier's network works with the S3. I was pretty sure Virgin Mobile uses Verizon's towers, and if that's true, is there anything special i need to do to make my phone work with them?

Virgin Mobile uses Sprint system and you can not activate Sprint device on Virgin. They just won't do it. This is an agreement that they have with Sprint. How ever, you can activate Verizon GS3 on AT&T or T-mobile without unlocking but getting the DATA working is another story. I have been trying to make the data work with T-Mobile but so far no luck. I can make and receive calls but that's about it. If you know of any way to get the DATA working please let me know.

Hey
I was able to get the Verizon Samsung galaxy S3 to work on simple mobile(prepaid service that uses t-mobile's towers) but I am only getting 2g speed. As anyone being able to get it work on t-mobile with 3g speeds. If the 3g works on t-mobile, it would work on simple mobile.

I'm currently on T-Mobile, and I'm only getting max of EDGE connection, which is equivilent to 2G... I guess. Lol
Only way 3G or 4G will work is for T-Mobile to merge Verizon towers with theirs, and that will not happen, for about another month or so, promised by T-Mobile. But I hope so!

From what I have heard from verizon themselves is that the contract talks fell apart between them and t-mobile. I have an S3 and have rooted and swapped sims.. then reprogrammed the phone to only pickup 750mhz 1700mhz, 1900mhz, and 2100mhz (I believe that is what I have it set to) so that if/when they do get back together and make it happen the phone that I have setup will be able to grab the tower information and get 4g. I have spoken with T-,Mobile and they are not saying anything at this time. I will keep you up to date.

no. what I was mentioning is that the contract talks between them fell apart...I am still working on getting 3g on the phone.. however I have seen that the chipsets are the same between the models. I purchased 2 gs3s one att and one verizon. Opened them up and part numbers where the same on the main board. I am fairly new to the android development area and so to the best of my knowledge you should be able to flash the radioover but have not tried yet... am going to try once I get some time to flash an AT&T radio and kernals and see if I can put a sim into the phone and see what happens.

So I can't get LTE or hspa+ to work on my n5 using at&t. MMS doesn't work either.
Hspa works fine. 6mb down and 1mb up. Which is fine for me. But still strange. This is a new at&t Sim. So its not a simcard issue. I just recently got data on my account. Because before it was just a minutes only plan and I kinda cheated the system and got a unlocked phone, simply poped my Sim in and thats it.

Last thing to check would be to make sure you have Preferred Network Type set to LTE under Cellular network settings. Other than that you might have to live with HSPA. Trust me though ATT knows damn well it's a smartphone. They may consider your plan grandfathered they may not. If they don't expect a bill from them sometime in the future.

The plan I used to be on was discontinued. And then I bough an att HTC first. Went to the store and they gave me a new Sim to fit in it and warned me I may be charged for data in the future during data sweeps. Then I had many phones after that, no data. And now this plan I can have data :/ its the mobileshare plan. And oh they know its a smartphone. They knew I had an atrix HD so....that's kinda odd.
I'm just wondering if it costs extra to have LTE vs the 3G.

Alright thanks
Hello, long time ATT customer, but decided to buy Unlocked through Samsung this time. My ATT Unlimited plan includes 30GB of Hotspot. Will the unlocked Z Fold 2 Hotspot work correctly?
Thanks!
It should fully support all US carriers in terms of provisioning for hot spots (and everything else) and Mobile Tech Review did mention that the unlocked phone was fully working with AT&T in their hands on video.

Not sure if that's correct. I have seen posts of people using unlocked S and Note 20 unlocked phones on ATT getting 5G.
Doesn't apply to me yet anyway. It will be awhile before 5G reaches my area.

Good to hear.
I pre-ordered unlocked version as well but now I'm having second thoughts because I will be losing VoLTE, WiFi Calling and visual VM.
Is it possible to get these features on unlocked versions?
Sent from my SM-N986U using Tapatalk
The phone should provision itself when you put in the sim card. What you get out of that is hard to say as they only provision what they support but again, Lisa mentioned that 5G worked on both AT&T and Tmo, VoLTE worked on both, cant remember if she mentioned calling or visual. She did say something to the effect that everything was working but that was a few days ago and I don't recall it exact. I'm on Fi and and my phones always provision up just fine.

I am more interested if the question from original poster is answered. Will the hot spot work on unlocked US version? I am using it every day really heavily. I don't have anything in my AT&T plan for 30gb hot spot and I am not willing to pay them anything extra for my data that I am already paying for.

I guess it depends on what plan you are on. On my original 9G plan the hotspot just counted towards the 9G of data.
