General My review of the Rog Phone 5 so far - ASUS ROG Phone 5 / 5s

let me start this out by saying that I had the Rog Phone 2 when it originally came out so when it was time to upgrade I wanted the Rog Phone 5 but didn’t know which one or where to buy so I pre-ordered the Red Magic 6 pro and got it April 17th I finally figured out where to buy the Rog Phone 5 ASUS_I005DC so I ordered it from https://ngpstoreusa.com/asus-rog-ph...16gb-ram-international-version-phantom-black/ and received it on May 13th and I’m happy to say it came with AeroActive Cooler 5. The Rog phone 5 has an awesome UI I don’t know if it’s because I’m used to the Rog phone 2 but there is a lot of customization to it and the themes are awesome the armory crate is very helpful but I will say there are a couple features that the Rog phone 2 had that I wish were still here like live stream. With the Red Magic 6 pro UI I feel like there is no customization you can’t put folders in your app drawer or rearrange your quick launch apps on the notification bar and the setting menu fill like it is set up weird. So for me the Rog phone 5 has a better all-around feel to it. I will say the Red Magic 6 touch response feels a little better on the screen and the triggers not to say that the Rog Phone 5 is bad they still work very well. I will also say I like that on the Red Magic 6 you can set the refresh rate to 90fps the Rog Phone 5 jumps from 60fps to 120fps but I usually keep it on auto which the Red Magic 6 does not have. the only other thing I'll say is that the Red Magic 6 pro will do 90fps on call of duty and the rog phone 5 will only do 60fps but it is only 1 game all the other games I have played have been the same on both phones and you have way more options with the triggers and the buttons on the fan with the rog phone 5 so for me I like the Rog phone 5 better but the Red Magic 6 pro is a good phone

I come from a magic 5g network and galaxy note 10 plus and I am super happy. this flies and the coverage is perfect. speechless...
I recommend it without any doubt.
and the audio via speakers are amazing and unique.
I hope it lasts a long time.
regards

You can live stream with the YouTube app.
Third party launchers can fix any app drawer shortcomings.
Call of Duty will most likely add support after full US release.

To stream with YouTube app u need to have 1000 followers
I don't know why Asus do that and delete possibility to do a live, for a gaming phone that's awesome

I didn't realize they killed off the YouTube gaming app. Google always has done their best to shut out the little guy unless they are bringing their own following.
Hopefully Streamlabs is still allowing streaming to Twitch.

Tesco Hudl 2 tablet.

Ok, so i'm tempted to buy one of these as I have a bunch of vouchers which means i can buy it for £25 instead of £129.
I'm a little concerned about the lack of love of the original Hudl device in terms of custom roms and general hacking , and i kinda understand it since its a UK device. so i'm unsure to go for it because of this. Its an Intel Atom cpu so i would love it if it was able to be installed with windows 8.1/10 eventually.
Anyone else seen the device and have any thoughts on it?

http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/tablets/391081/hands-on-tesco-hudl2-review
Looks like I've found the right place for my review
I tried posting this in a comment box on Engadget. Suffice to say, it did not fit! I thought there might be a modding forum for the hudl1 over here on xda but to my surprise there is not :-O slightly concerning. I don't understand why it being a British device would be an issue, we make great stuff!
Anyway here goes..
Had a good shot on the hudl2 today. Going in teaco today was like the opening scenes of the Lego movie. Hudl propaganda everywhere. Point of sale cardboards you expect. But I have to admit impressed with the kiosk they've set up. The branding is simple, and hey had all colours of hudl on display, it definitely lures you in. On top of tat, giving the big brother Lego-movir feel, all of the television displays are showing a hudl2 promo vids on loop. 'Were really pleased to announce...' Etc..
The demo units run in obviously a demo mode. Pristine, I think I might have been their first prodder. All the tabs were heleved in landscape view and the first Hong you notice therefore is how wide they look. If you've seen the nexus7, these seem like pretty much the same ratio. The demo mode has a display encouraging you to 'try it', which if you tap, takes you to the android home screen. Naturally it is maiden with blinkbox icons. The home screen to the left features tescos feed. Things like shopping offers, how to get started on blibkbox etc. You can hide then (they appear as cards), but they come back soon enough. The home screen one to the right of the main, is more blink box a centric with more direct links to movies and music etc.
You can choose to ditch blinkbox icons if you wish but long and short, you're not getting rid of these left and right home screens anytime soon. I had a good look through the options and settings, and nowhere did I see the option to remove ho.eacreens.
Neither was I able to enable developer option s, something to note.
Going into settings, apps, I attempted to close/stop any references to Tesco processes running to see if it was possible to 'de-teaco' the homeacreens. And sure, I was able to stop them. But returning to the home screen starts them again and back they appear, as if they never went away.
The homeacreen to.the left incurs the highest lag in all my experience using the tablet. As you scroll left, the background blurs, which is a nice aesthetic touch but I would hedge my bets that is what's causing the lag. As another person has reported, touching the app drawer brings up the app icons very promptly, with only a slight *very very slight* * delay. To the otaku, this will annoy them possibly, but to.most casual users who don't race around phones/tabs as they likely so on desktop PC's, this won't be a problem at all.
Similarly, launching apps was prompt, about th same as the initial 'pressing on app drawer' button.
It feels very much like a smartphone, with a. Bigger screen, which is what most ppl expect.
The screen. The screen is absolutely stand-out feature on this tab. The colours, to my taster are desaturated enough to look natural, I would estimate skin tones in videos would look very nice on this. Photos look absolutely lovely, and using the tab to tweak them with Google Photos was easy, fun and satisfying.
Play store..
Internet wasslow connection in this particular tescos but at least they're connected! A welcome change to a lot of stores/demos. Indeed, these tabs were 'box-fresh' I downloaded Flipboard, which flipped through lagfree, although I can't say 100% for sure about hr speed because the connection was so slow that images weren't displaying yet.
I downloaded flickr, a nice appfor viewing photos on nice screens and it looked wonderful with next to no.lag (aside the net connection ).
Feel in the hand. These things are naturally powered up and connected via mai s as well as a central stem from beneath the desk holding them up. So I wasn't able to feel how theysit in the hand vertically. But I was able to.hold it horizontally and that was indeed very comfy, the rubbery soft touch back is very nice and trippy too.
No accessories were available yet.
I can't comment on the sound, but the screen is just lovely. Again, to echo others, the viewing angles are not fantastic, but its respectably bright and crisp. No such 'cyan oven mode style' colour options in the settings though, if the look isn't to your preference.
This is my first time using an 8inch tablet, its a nice experience. However this like email in landscape could definitely so with a bit of a makeover (everything appears very large), like email for kids . (Gmail I'm talking about).
Goodgle Newsstand, this had had a recent update which makes it quite graphically intense, using the cards style material UI of upcoming Google Android L. Scrolling through the items incurred a bit of lag, I would put in on par with my galaxy S3 (running CyanogenMod 11l. As a news reading experience, this app has a lot of potential, but Aimo It would only be optimal under android L.
Browsing through the play store for music, movies and books requires a fair amount of close-up viewing it on a galaxy s3, not so here. The items on display are pleasant and text metainfo, like price, genre, year etc. Are nicely legible.
Browsing speed..
Now this is the only area where I was not particularly amazed with the hudl 2. I fired up theverge as its quite intense. The chrome.browser held most of the images in place, however a quick scroll from very top to very bottom of the site had images blinking out of view,, then re-appearing. Not a ram issue I don't think. I think (only suspect) this might be a limit of the atom CPU.
I did nothing more strenuous to he tablet, and apart from that, I would say it is very very serviceable. Especially for £129.
Were it not for this potential.nexus9 around the corner with rumoured android L, I would buy this immediately.
would it be possible to put the GEL launcher on this? and thanks for the in depth review^^^^^^^
nice hands-on. sort out the strange spelllings and wording and you could put that on a proper website.
i'll be getting mine tonight (cost me £25 on top of my clubcard vouchers which have been sitting doing nothing for years) so will give some feedback for what its worth. i'm totally wanting to run windows on it though. I can't get my head around why anyone would chose a (presumably more expensive) Intel x64 chipset over an ARM given that Android is optimised for ARM.

Good review - and the web pages thing does seem to be an issue. I thought I would add a couple of points based on 24 hours of ownership of this device....
The first thing I noticed was how laggy the Tesco launcher was - not helped by the boat load of Tesco crapola on left screen. The first thing I did was put Nova on there and it was like night and day - zero lag. I disabled most of the Tesco apps and hid them in the launcher as well which basically left me with, essentially, a stock Android tablet. It also left no visible sign of Tesco on the tablet because Nova can get rid of the search bar (Tesco had moved their Tesco button up here instead of having it on the Navigation bar on Hudl1) The only gripe about performance would be that there is some lag with some live wallpapers.
I stuck Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 5 on there and there no problems. Both games play really, really well. I also tested the touch responsiveness - an issue on Hudl 1 - by playing CounterSpy and Alone and it seems to be a lot better on Hudl 2. I have not really had a chance to test the speakers yet as I have mainly used it with headphones. I've also not had any issues with app incompatibility caused by the Intel processor yet. Internet speed seems great so far- even large games downloaded quickly both on home and work WiFi.
My biggest gripe is the 9gb of free space - 11 out of 16gb free should be the minimum. First thing I will do when I root it will be to get rid of some of bloat with Titanium.
Overall though - very impressed. As already mentioned, the screen is just fantastic. Huge improvement on the first one and a really, really decent device. For the money its a no-brainer.
Thanks for continuing the discussion! What you've said all sounds very positive!
Have you managed to root it? I note that there sadly didn't seem to be much support for custom rom'ing the hudl1. But those changes you made with the launcher sound like they took care of any lag, this is great!
One thing you did mention.. I thought i would ask you, for clarity.. When you said..

I was more echoing your concerns tbh - noticed it crop up in at least a couple of "hands on" reviews and was wondering if it was an issue. I haven't especially noticed but I will try a few more content heavy web page and see what happens. I should apologise for the lack of clarity on my original reply as I haven't rooted it yet- I rooted the last one and ran exposed and gravity box which did compensate slightly for the lack of custom roms. There was a bit of interest in Hudl modding on Modaco last time, which was where I found the rooting info.
I think Rooting may take a while as this is an Intel Atom Bay trail Z3735D cpu. The Onda V975i has the same CPU and has been rooted so it may be possible to adapt it to work although it is running an older version of android which may raise other problems. Also I would not try any rooting method until a recovery ROM and method are available.
My Hudl 2 on order.

Further From my previous post it appears that these Bay Trial tabs can have a Bios so It will be interesting to see how this tab matures. Windows Anyone!

Pretty cool to think that would be possible.
Windows has a 1000 uses, what would you choose to do? (just curious)
Do you think that Kings might have solution to rooting?

I am the worst person with devices, I like to get them to do more than they were originally intended to do and to tinker and learn as much as poss, then I just end up never using them. But if a Dev overcomes all the obstacles in Boot and Bios and is able to roll all the drivers into a windows rom, I couldn't help myself I would have to test it.
Hudl2 Thread
How do we lobby the XDA Devs to open a section for the Hudl2?
Do we need to raise money to buy one to send it to a dev?
I'd quite like a recovery loader (at the bare minimum) to be able to back up the Hudl2, before asking for some kind dev to port a new Rom to it.
What can we do to make any of the above options happen?

I don't know the answer to any of your questions but I'd be willing to contribute £5 to the cost of finding out how to root it, in whatever form that takes.
Just out of interest has anyone tried Root Genius? it is made by the same people that made Shuame. If not working I suspect root will probably come from installing IntelAndroidDrvSetup and then a flash from Fastboot if we can get into Fastboot. But it will need someone with the correct knowledge to make the flashable update with the right parameters. All only a guess though.
Hi. Does anyone have an idea of how someone who's not in England can purchase one?
I'm very interest, seems great value for the money.
Thanks.

Yes it might, my Hudl 2 is not yet delivered so I am unable to test at present. But I think it is worth a shot.
(kicking myself for ordering with delivery and not picking up from store.)

I'm impressed! I have no idea now you had the thought process of thinking of doing that! I take it you must have quite a lot of experience with routing. I only ropted my s3 because i needed to. Sometimes i wish i had the insight to be able to suggest something like that. I usually work off of what faq or how-to suggests. I'm quite interested in why this device would require a different method because of it's cpu. Interesting to me.
Has anyone had success playing encoded videos e.g. x264 codec and similar? I used to get decent results using MXplayer or VLC beta on my previous tablet (a cheap Chinese version that should be worse than the Hudl2), but now I suspect that poor x86 support from those players is letting it down. I've downloaded the x86 codec for MX and played with the various performance options, but results range from good to appalling depending on the video, with stuttering or full crashes. I've also tried some other players that claimed x86 support, but no dice.
Any advice gratefully received, as I'm very happy with my Hudl2 apart from this.

Meizu Note1 -- Initial thoughts -1st Pass Review

Hi All,
As a moderator for the Samsung devices, I have pretty much owned every device Samsung has made ...... So, I decided to venture out into some of the less known Phones from China/Far-East.
This one I purchased is The Meizu M1 Note I decided on this phone because of the price point and specs ...... Hey Octo Core, 403 ppi 13mb camera 32 gig internal memory
All for 205 bucks ....... not bad I figured I ll roll the dice ... After all it really is just a back up phone and a toy to learn more about ...... Glad I did.....
1st I paid the extra 27 bucks for fast ship Through DHL ..... I got the phone off of AliExpress.com (this is a subsidiary of Alibaba website) China's Amazon equivalent. There are many other decent sites to buy from do your research before buying ......... some sites are not so good. One way of discerning a reputable site is to make sure it is PayPal confirmed..... do your research. Anyway, after ordering I got a confirmation pretty quick... 6 days later the device was in my hands........ Cool !
A MUST HAVE BOOKMARK ...... http://www.trackingmore.com/ This site has all the major shipping services in one place. Makes it easy to track say "ChinaPost" or DHL or whatever......... Much easier on you ...... this allows to track the front end of the shipping better and gives you a better understanding why things take a bit of time to get out of China ...usually China then to Hong Kong through customs and then to USA.
As for the device...
Getting around on the phone when you 1st turn it on is a bit confusing......... Uhhh Most of the Icons are in Chinese, but after looking at it is easy to figure out how to configure ...... It runs Android 4.4.4 with Meizu's Flyme Shell ...... No worries what you really just need to do is to register on flyme I connected to Wifi then (THIS IS IMPORTANT) register with a Name, Like "Oka's-phone" do not use the phone number to register it will not recognize the Out of China number ... said it would I could not get it to work that way. Upon further investigation I discovered, there are 3 types of Roms it is running All the same ending with a letter . Either "U", "C" , OR "A" A.... is the international generic Rom. But, no biggie really they all work the same. Once you register with Flyme, you just go in and "Open System Privileges" and Voila' you are rooted.
Once you have done that you go to their App store (called App Center in English ) There you search for Google installer, install that 1st then each of the Google apps separately. Once you have the Play store installed you now can download everything you need/want.
Now, one of the Downsides of using a Chinese phone here, for some reason Not all my paid apps would recognize on this , so They would not load from my Google backup.... ..... My guess the reason for this is some licensing conflict with the Play store and Flyme .... but it is what it is. ~~ Update All but 3 of my apps did eventually update to the paid version-
Performance
The device is pretty much performs like a Samsung S5 ........ but there are differences for one ....... you can root the phone just by Opening System privileges .... easy But...... The Boot-loader is locked...... so I do not see any Custom Roms coming soon until that is solved...... if ever.
The phone Benches on Antutu 42-43,000 much like a S5 ...... The graphics work very nicely, but I am not a gamer so.... can't comment on that.
Phone reception is excellent....... the Phone rings soft for 2 seconds then goes loud out of the box ... like to change that , haven't figured out yet, will update later on this.
Music Quality is decent considering it is a single speaker, I am going to install a sound app to improve the quality and see if that helps.
The stock software for the camera is Pretty lack luster........ so I installed FV-5 and Pro-capture........ FV-5 seemed to really improve the performance of the camera. I do not think the front-facing camera will work on Skype I tried and could not make it go ..... my guess it is not configured for that. ~~~ See Post #5 Suspect008 found the fix it is in the video configuration Thank you for posting the fix !
Video works pretty good actually ....... On the still photos, they seem only to be sharp to about 15-20 feet then they soften noticeably ... could just be me but I think the software that is controlling it is not modern enough......
The WiFi seems not to be strong as my note 3 or note 4 I need to be closer to the router seemed a little weaker ...... 15% +/- not a big deal but noticeable to me
GPS Works great ! Google maps is flawless, The Battery life is better than the S5 ...... Medium Use 17 hours and @ 56 % so that is excellent.
Bluetooth I have had no issues connected to my car, a keyboard and speakers 1st so that is good.
I tried using it with the Dual sim It works fine I used a ATT, Verizon and Tmo so it does work on both CDMA and GSM.
Those are my Initial thoughts ......... This is WAY worth the 205 bucks it cost me ..... It performs well enough that it can be you daily use device no problem .......... Not as good as a Note 4 but 1/4 the cost ......
I will update more as I discover more and provide some Chinese Translations on the device icons .....
:good::good::good: Give it 3 thumbs up for the price to performance .... Hope that helps all of you looking at this device
Extracted Ring Tones From the Meizu M1 note
Here are the ring tones in 3 zip folders 1 of 3 enjoy Check out ... call-of-love has a cat meow in it Crystal and Guitar are pretty nice
Meizu Ring tones 2 of 3
Here is the second Zip of ringtones ... check out Mario, MusicBox, Nighty-night, Progress
Meizu Ring tones 3 of 3
Here is the Third Zip of ring tones
The-kittens is kinda interesting Technology and the Waltz all are pretty cool
Skype Front Camera Works
About the front camera for skype,
I had the same issue but solved by going to skype settings and disabling the "use skype in back........" setting under video and voice calls. mine works fine. and I agree on all your points. its a really remarkable device for the price. Flyme needs some polishing. like we cant save a number to contacts from dialer and dialer has no access to contatcs. thats really painfull. but it is powerful as s5 for 1/4 cost. I play all the high end games without a sweat/ Asphalt 8 dead trigger modern combat no hassle for this device.
I have been using the phone for almost two months now and was previously using a samsung galaxy s3.
I am quite happy with the phone's performance. The screen is great. The camera is decent. The battery life is good.
I hope meizu releases the lollipop firmware soon.
Lollipop has been released it is the flyme 4.53 I think google it you will find it was easy to install
Really interesting, Thank you for this Information!
I believe the LP version released is beta.

Have had the phone for a couple of days now, and I really like the phone, but there is a few problems.
- Still some Chinese text here and there
- Unable to connect to PC. Device not recognized by two win10 computers.
- Lock screen, unable to turn of the roll of Chinese pictures.
- Play Store, unable to update or download via mobile network, only via wifi
- Clock widgets tend to not being synchronized with phone clock. They stop showing correct time
These are very unique type of Mobiles that i ever see in mobile market. Here in Pakistan Xiaomi Mobiles are coming Soon. The first look i explored on the internet was quite amazing. I am keeping its rank after i phone luxury looks and feel.I will definitely buy this phone if prices would not so high.

Hi, I can solve some problems for you.
Lock screen roll of pictures. Normally you can disable it if you put a wallpaper for lockscreen. Or to click on the small icon in the top right corner of your lockscreen.
Play Store, not able to download on mobile network. You need to disable the download limit in the settings of the "downloads" app.
Love the phone, thought the build quality was excellent BUT my daughter dropped it and the case has split. I dropped my htc one, galaxy s, nexus 4 and a whole host of other phones a 100 times and there was no problem. Really disappointed
Only other major issue is the phone gets locked out "this phone has been lost" many many times a day. Sometimes i cannot use it for hours at a time because activation does not work.

That's a real bummer to hear hope that you can get it fixed somehow.
Do you mean that the glass back had split?

When she dropped it, it hit the top right corner. The metal body is VERY weak apparently (see bend tests), so soft it pushed in. So now the back glass panel on that corner is separated from the aluminium frame. It always felt fragile, the glass is so smooth is slides off even grippy surfaces! BUT it is meant to be a flagship top of the market phone so i did expect more. This is the problem when one of the largest smart phone producers doesn't sell in the internet exclusion zone (Australia & NZ). No repair centres, no accessories in stores probably no warranty. Long wait for new cables, cases and anything else.
I'm starting to see LOTS of software issues now too, MIUI has always been that way though. Be good when some custom roms come out. I guess you get what you pay for. It's no Galaxy s7, HTC one or LG that's forsure.
Buyers remorse right now haha...
Oh, 3 days old too... (not my daughter, the phone )
Having brands like Samsung, LG and others ask so much for their flagship phones is not an excuse, they sometimes cost 4 times less to build than they sell for.
But thinking you actually get a top of the line phone for prices like these (not talking about the prices those online import shops ask for the devices when you're not living in asia, but the actual prices Xiaomi sells the phones for) there has to be some compromise... this time it's mainly the build strength.
The moment you get this phone, GET A CASE asap! You don't want to break it when accidentally sitting on it :'(
Want a less break prone version? Get the 128 ceramic version.
Got the phone damaged? YouTube hugo barra tearing a mi5 apart, good reparability.
Love this phone! But you have to handle it like a Chinese vase!

Love this phone. I was skeptical at first as their past phones were less than stellar imo but the specs at this price point was too good to pass up.
Have had it for around 2 weeks now, and though still minor quirks with software here and there, all around very happy and haven't run into any major issues.
Great battery life as well. As to be expected, the body is quite fragile but as I'm very careful with my belongings, I don't think I'll be dropping it *knock on wood*
The Mi 5 will be replacing my S7 - call me crazy, but the only downside (only taking into consideration features I use) I've found so far is that the camera is obviously worse. No biggie since I always bring my DSLR for any proper events, and this way I can save some money.
Here is my Real Live Review:
I've bought a Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro 128 GB (at tradingshenzhen.com)
I've unlocked bootloader, TWRP, rooted, and installed Mi 5 Global Developer Rom 6.5.30 (recently updatet itself to MIUI 8 6.8.11)
The Hardware looks and feels nice. Only negative point I could mention: After some days of use I recogniced a clicking sound when I softly push the center of the backside glas (ceramic).
The Software in my opinion can compete with Samsung (there I have the direct comparison) and other brands. In some Points it's better, in some points it's a little behinde the concurence.
My impressions in detail:
Positive:
+ An amazing feauture added in 6.8.11 is the "Dual Apps" function in the settings menu. If you have dual sim, thats a extreamly important feauture. Otherwhise you cannot use WhatsApp on both Numbers. Whit MIUI 8 you can. And this whitout using WhatsApp clones as WhatsAppGB (which I used bevore MIUI 8). (I don't know if other DualSim Devices have this feauture)
+ I've bought the Nillkin Backcover (black) and the Nillkin Flipcover. (Dark Grey) Both are great but the Flipcover is quite glossy, what I dont like.
+ I've bought an USB-C to USB 3 (female jack) cable to connect external storage (for TWRP-Backup etc.) and other devices. I wasn't able to save the TWRP-Backup direct on the external storage, so I made an internal backup and copied it to an external fat-harddrive. The main thing is, that I have an external backup (whitout MicroSD-Cardslot a little challange)
+ IR Sensor to controll HiFi and TV! ZaZa remote is my favourit App to use it.
Negative:
- No possibility to distinguish the SMS-Inbox of the two mobilenumbers. Sure, there is this little "1" or "2" behind the date. But what I would like to see is a "Dual App" for the Messages-App, a possibility to filter the messages by mobilenumber or two tabs on top of the Display where I can choose the two SIM-Cards. Anything like that would be verry nice!
- MIUI don't give me the possibility to add an App-Link into two different folders on the homescreen =(
- No support of ExFat formated storage via USB-C (nor NTFS or HFS+) Any tip to solve this is verry welcome!
- E-Mail App does allow me to add different arriving IMAP and outgoing SMTP server but have NO possibility to add a different login for these two servers. A verry important feauture for me. (My Samsung was able to make this difference). Any hint is verry welcome! I've tried some other E-Mail Apps but didn't find one that can handle all my needs.
- No MicroSD Cardslot. You could say it's not necessary when you have 128GB internal storage, but for example the backup-process would be easyer with it.
Fazit:
Alltogether I am happy with my new device. It is, what I was looking for. The devices helps me to disassociate Job and Personal contacts whitout a second mobile. In some Videos i've seen, that it is more or less repairable and the replacement parts are available in the "bay", an important criterion I guess.
Edited:
When I was writing text, I had this annoying red lines under words which weren’t known by the System. I wasn’t able to find a menu-point to switch them off. My search engine helped me out with this Link. You have to open an adb shell and enter „settings put secure spell_checker_enabled 0“. With „settings put secure spell_checker_enabled 1“ you can switch them back on, if needed.
short mi5 review
Really happy with mine after 3 months, had a bit of pain getting off the vendor rom and figuring out all of the battery optimizations and over zealous permissions.
Once I sorted all of that threw the google now launcher (app drawer back ,Yuss !) on it and very happy. Super snappy after my nexus 5x and the camera is great. Low light could be better but you just use the HHT low light mode and its all good. Battery life is great, I am usually at around 40% after a full day. used a nilikin case from the start and love it, the size and weight is perfect.
The rear fingerprint sensor on the nexus was way better but the mi5 but that is mostly positioning, in my opinion rear sensor wins. Great phone and very happy with it, the only issue was software niggles which are getting better and better.
Loving mine too. Really impressive phone for the price.
I have the phone with international ROM, camera is very good. But it has some bugs.. Like Bluetooth and Gmail connection which sometimes fails and always connected to Mi stuff which i dont like. Its not that fast either, im thinking to try out the nexus 5x because its in the same price region.

Thanks for your review.
What are the features of the e-mail app that make it superior to other e-mail apps such as Gmail, Cloud Magic or Blue Mail ?
Just updated to Miui V8.. I will watch out for bugs.

@onestyle, TWRP backup by OTG works fine, I use pendrive and I did not see any problems.

I've listet the eMail App as an negative point, so no superior things. The point is, that I was looking for a Mail App which chould cover my needs some years ago, and didn't found one. When I bought the Mi5 I just tried the wrong apps. BlueMail works great for my needs, thanks a lot for the hint!!! Cloud Magic I wasn't able to configure a different SMTP login (the function is existent, but it didn't accepted my server).

Nice, that its working with your config. Could you tell me/us which version of TWRC you are using? Maybe my cable is the problem, where did you got yours? Kind regards

LG VR 360 Headset - Anyone have it ?

Does anyone have the production/release version of the headset, i have seen they are in stock at a couple of places here in the UK (Handtek/Mobilefun) and am debating pressing the trigger.
The reviews all seem to be from last month and perhaps pre production software/hardware ?
Main thing i want to know is about lag and screen blur (i don't care about the light bleed etc) ?
Thanks in advance !
I just received my copy. I could live with the light shinning through from the bottom of the glasses but I can't understand why there is no Google cardboard support, no vr app from the playstore works either. You can only watch some clips and your pictures, nothing else. I'm thinking about sending it back straight away. Unbelievable that they ask 300 euros for this.
EDIT: Still searching for a solution to start other vr apps... but to answer your questions: Blur is there, if you move quickly it will quickly blur out, but ifs easy to focus again by not moving your head too much. About the lag, i couldn't see any lag, if you move your head, the picture moves with it. Please do not take my word too seriously, this is my first vr equipment and therefore i have no experience with this kind of things.

Light bleed isn't as extreme as most of the reviewers have stated, however the blur is quite obvious, especially if you actually move around a lot. Other than that the only issue I had is no working 3rd party VR apps, which sucks.
Yes I have it and agree light bleed isn't extreme . Here is my review
https://gavinsgadgets.com/2016/05/04/lg-g5-friends-lg-360-vr-review/
My two cents review..
I bought mine in the US from B&H photovideo. The field of view is smaller than the gear vr IMO. Pixel quality seems a little better to me on the LG360VR but the optics begin to blur a tiny bit toward the edges. The game selection is totally non-existent except the one app I happened upon during a google search.
It's called "battle lg360vr" in the play store. Its not free but is less than $2.00. For anyone who decides to buy it, you have to start it from within the play store because it won't show up in the app drawer nor in the vr manager. Once I ran that app I couldn't switch back to the 360 vr manager app until I disconnected and reconnected the headset.
I'm hopeful more content will pop up for this headset in the next few months. Otherwise I don't think the current lineup of content is worth the cost.
Overall I prefer the LG360VR form factor over the gear vr. In spite of the Gear VR feeling more immersive and having many games to choose from I couldn't use it for long without getting major eye fatigue. It was also uncomfortable to wear for very long hurting the bridge of my nose and fogged up too easily.
Sent from my LG-H830 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Oh and yes there is some blurring but it was more noticeable in the main vr manager menu and surprisingly less noticeable during playing the battle vr game.
FWIW, I think the blur issue might be more of a slow response time of the LCD panels rather than lag between the phone and the headset.

I have a set, and I must say I really enjoy them, having spent a lot of time with the Gear VR before. These are very light and comfortable, image quality is great, almost no noticeable screen door effect and as soon as there are more vr content these googles will be a great thing to have.
My only real issue is that i have not been able to find a cable that allows me to charge the phone, and have the headset connected, at the same time. This means that the headset is a little hard for it's basic use case (for me), watching movies while travelling. My phone battery is nearly dead after watching 30-40 mins of a movie, and this is not enough time to charge the second battery in the charger that came with the spare-battery set.
Anyone that have any ideas on where to get a cable that would allow me to both charge the phone, and use the head set at the same time?
Huge oversight from LG for not supporting Cardboard from the beginning. Hope they'll update it soon!
Mind blowing that they dont support cardboard apps
Does anyone recommend a suitable chinese VR set for LG G5?

New to this Tablet

Hey everyone,
So I am a Nexus 7 user and I am bummed that it won't be supported anymore. It really fit my needs and I love so much about it. The size is just right (I have huge hands, too!), the video display was spot on, it was fast, the 32 GB was ample room...I could go on.
Have any of you migrated from the Nexus 7 to this tablet? I have read a few reviews on other sites where Nexus 7 users raved about this tablet as a truly appropriate replacement for their Nexus 7. I was wondering if any of you can attest to this fact, too? Mine is coming soon so I am excited to get it, unbox it, and set it up. I doubt I'll root it though because I am not that hardcore, and I'll always worry about security (social media apps, cloud storage apps, banking apps, etc.).
Thanks for any feedback or insight you may be able to give!
Cheers,
Keith
Chose this tablet over the N7. Not sure if this is a replacement as it is not that new anymore. But it is still a good device and nothing in the market to beat it (yet).
Sent from my SHIELD Tablet using Tapatalk
Coming from a 2013 Nexus 7, the shield tablet to me beats it in everyway possible. I use mine mainly for gaming and in that area it is on a whole other level due to its GPU. Battery life while gaming crushes the Nexus 7 but for whatever odd reason, standard use such as browsing the web, watching videos is where it tends to lack at times. If your a casual user this tablet is a overkill. If you tend to game heavy you will find it astonishing at how much of a improvement this tablet is, I promise you it will not disappoint. Hope you enjoy yours as I do mine!
