I think very soon they will be on pair with samsung,when it comes about smartphone processors.
Intel chips are excellent for desktops and laptops. But I still cannot say if I want a phone with the logo "Intel Inside". Although Intel is a giant in the CPU business, it is still a newbie in the smartphone department. Let's see if Intel Atom exceeds expectations with Lenovo K800.
I wonder if someone could get Windows 7 or x86 Ubuntu running on it. It has an x86 processor, 1GB of RAM, 1280x720 display.
X86 does very well in android. Also there are many socs that actually use more power than even the previous generation pine trail atoms. The a5x comes to mind. The new medfield chips reduce the power significantly.

Got the Phone in China (I live there). First surprise, the phone comes without a micro SD card slot. Apart from that the phone delivers what was shown a few months back.
Package (nice) gives you the phone, battery, headset, usb wall plug and usb cable (µUSB).
Surprises come from the software: there is
no google play
no gmail (
no gmaps ((
which is kind of hard to take for an android phone...
Gmaps = > download the APK, it works (AGPS seems not operational though as the fix is super slow to come)
I downloaded the APK, google play starts but asks for an account, then closes, whatever your answer is to the question whether you want to add an account or not.
Adding account: It seems you can only add an exchange account, not a google account, which is probably the source of the problems I am facing (which I believe is a general problem on Android phones bought in China)
Gmail does not work
Google earth crashed
Skype works
So if anyone has a hint, how to add this real google account, then enable the rest (Google play, Gmail), this would really be helpfull to turn the device to a real Android device.
Let me know if you guys have questions on the device, I'll try to visit this thread on a regular basis.

so the google play stuff is quite typical to the Android China phones which do not have this google account connection.
Here is what I found on another xda thread:
You need to have googleservicesframework and googlefeedback installed on your phone as well for it to manage account. Download any gapp packages, for instances cyanogenmod ones and adb push it to system/app. With both the market and the googleservicesframework in the system, it will be able to manage the account and work as it should. Hope that helps.

Got some more time to play with the device.
Gmaps works well, but GPS seems not able to get a locate from the cell, so maps only gives you its position once the gps gets a fix, which is quite longer..
Gmail can be installed, by getting the GoogleServicesFramework.apk installed (you can get it from a CM7 Gapps package).
Then it works well, the only drawback being the contacts imports from your Google account seems not possible.
Google play is still a no go, same for Google earth. I could get Google Translate to work as well, very usefull when you live abroad!

Have you tried asking the seller for support? Maybe they have rooting services. Most Chinese shops have the capability to root the phones they sell. They usually have roms for their phones.

It's amazing that an Android phone should ship without any gapps - considering the missing link with your Google account means you can't autosync your contacts (assuming you're coming from another Android device).
Is there any progress in getting the device rooted? Like someone else said, it'd just be a case of getting a working recovery & flashing the CM gapps package.

Impressions after a few weeks of usage
here are some impressions on the device, after a few weeks of usage on a daily basis.
My reference is another Android Phone, the Samsung Galaxy S2 which I own for a year now. I can't pretend to make a detailed review ala Endgadget, so I'll rather cover some topics to highlight. Feel free to ask for any specific questions.
Screen:
First point, the screen on the K800 is a 4.5inches display, and this is a notable difference from the GS2. More space, but also much more points. This is my first HD(720p) display, and I must say I love it...
Surfing is easier and nicer, and watching a 720 DivX on the device is actually fairly impressive. Note the rescaling works well, and a usual DivX would do just as good, without the extra points.
The display delivers a more realistic color than the GS2 amoled, less vivid, also I feel less bright.
Hardware
general size and shape are not K800 top spots. The design is very squarish, the phone is also rather thick (~11mm is nowadays a thick phone). It is also heavier.
Overall assembly quality is very good, but squarish. It is also heavier than the GS2, note there are reasons for it: bigger display, bigger battery also (1900mA).
Assembly quality is very good and the phone feels solid, and sits nicely next to my Lenovo laptop without looking ridiculous.
One topic of regret is the absence of a SD card slot, forcing you to rely on the 16GB internal storage.
Usage
SW: it is shipped with Android 2.3.7 as said earlier, and if this can be seen as an issue by many of us SW enthusiast, it is also an advantage on the power side. Together with the large battery, the phone offers quite an extended usage. With a "light" day (3G / GPS always on, few calls/mails/SMS, light surf, few minutes of playing) I only draw ~25% of the battery. I love this !!
On a heavier day I managed to draw almost 50% (when I just got it), playing around, downloading apps, trying various stuff and customizing UI besides a normal usage. The average is around 30-40% per day depending on my usage. This overall is a very nice aspect of the phone.
After having my GS2 flashed to ICS LPG, I faced a major increase of the battery, having to recharge the phone during the same day when my usage was a bit heavy, which is really annoying (and made me buy a juice pack...). GS2 drains its battery faster.
Speed:
The UI sometimes has some quick slow downs, not killing but visible (scrolling accross desktops), which are hard to explain, but overall the experience remains very smooth. I also faced some issues of reactivity on the android soft buttons, be it back, home, or context menu. While it is not killing for the usage, it is a point to improve and it makes the user experience not up to the level of the galaxy S2, because you have to press the button sometimes 2-3 times before it reacts. Also the haptic feedback (very short vibra run when you type) is much sharper on my Samsung device, so there is some more maturity needed on Lenovo side here (I guess they have to learn here).
The surfing is really fast on the K800, be it on 3G or on Wifi where it really goes fast. Getting pages is notably faster than on the Galaxy S2.
USB interface is also quite enjoyable, I reached 17MB/s on a file transfer, which makes the transfer of big files (read 720p content) quite fast and convenient. I faced no recognition issues at all on my various computers.
You really feel like the hardware interfaces on the device are not skimmed down anyhow, and that feels good. I could not try the WiDi as I have no WiDi receiver.
Compatibility:
I faced only minor issues on the device, like G earth does not run, so do some apps, like Asphalt 5 or 6, but I could not spot too many issues here. I also could not get temple run running on the device.
That's all that comes to my mind right now, so I'll be just posting further impressions on the go.
This device is now my primarily device, and in the evening I do not worry that I'll run out of juice.
Wow! Thanks for the review! So, is it safe to say that it is the best smartphone you've tried? How about the camera of the K800 and its call quality?
well there are some maturity issues like reactivity (will it be improved by SW? It should be doable for reactivity) and form factor Design (soap box) as reported above, which make the experience not complete, but for a first Android flagship device by Lenovo, result is overall really impressive and competitive on several aspects (speed, power, display...).
Call quality is good I have nothing to complain about here (including speakerphone), camera I have not been testing extensively so I can't really tell you so far, how good it is.
I've been watching the Android scene for a while now and have not bought a phone yet because the hardware hasn't met my needs. So I'm coming back to where I started tinkering with WM5 and 6.5 phones on this forum.

I'm sorry, but you want an iPhone...for siri?? The lame voice assistant that answers questions at about a 60% accuracy rate? The one that makes you look like a douchebag that's too cool to talk to actual people, so instead you talk to your phone as if it were a person? The one that most users see on TV and go "AWWW COOL" but then they play with it for 5 minutes then get bored?
Not to mention the phone itself matches less than half the criteria you specified.
Just buy a damn iPhone and leave this forum to the adults. There are Android phones out there like the Xperia NXT line that better match what you said you wanted, but I can already tell that you'll ***** about one or two of your criteria not being there, totally ignoring that the alternative phone you're looking at matches even less..but has a gimicky voice assistant which somehow makes it all ok.

I didn't say I was going to get an I phone I like the idea of a hands free digital assistant. I suppose you could argue that the amount of money you spend on an Iphone/contract would be best put towards a real PA But I'm not going to do that.
I can develop android apps so it would make sense to get an Android phone. But I don't just want a run of the mill phone wifi and gps handset with a terrible camera. There are very few Phones on the market at the moment that fit my hardware needs. I'm fussy because I buy a contract and am then stuck with the hardware for the duration. I could stick with my N8 as it's done me proud, I don't need another phone but if I do upgrade then I want the phone to fit my needs not something that I'm going to be disapointed with just because someone said "Oh get it, it's got this cool feature" ;and only to find that cool feature is not on my want list for a replacement phone.
I should thank you for the other info I'll look into that handset.
If there are any other Android Handsets anyone could think of that are pretty stacked then I'll take a look. Shame Nokia didn't go with Android as they would have killed the competition.

Looks to me like you want a Galaxy S3. It meets most, if not all of your wants in a phone. The only one I'm not sure about is the 1080p video recording.

S3 is way too big and flimsy, failed drop tests. It wouldn't last 2 minutes in my back pocket. At the moment I've got my eye on the HTC One X range although I have been looking at concept phones too which look very sexy and although aren't real, they could be next year or the end of this year. Might have to wait a bit longer for android hardware to meet my needs.
It's a shame that no one want's to start porting an Android build to Nokia Symbian hardware. I know it's an epic task but the bootloader is available so It's not impossible.
Nokia got bailed out by Microsoft and part of the deal obviously was going to be that Nokia use Windows as it's OS. Android dev license is still cheaper than MS.

Went to a few phone shops to try out some of the devices. A lot of phones are getting too big to hold. If I want a tablet I'll buy a tablet I don't want a bigger screen.
The Experia P is the size of handset I'm looking for and the build quality looks ok.
I see sony are releasing the Xperia GX soon so will see if this meets the Camera/Audio expectations. At the moment Audio quality in videos are what I'm looking at. The quality of audio in Nokias N8 is still trumping Android phones. If you are being recorded instead of the one doing the recording then the mic quality isn't so good on android unless you are on top of the phone. If anyone can beg to differ then I'm open to suggestions and What's the point of a 1080p recording device without the ability to store over 16GB of video?

Android doesn't really have any good voice assistant yet, i've tried all of them and they are terrible at even the simplest of commands. But, Google has said they are working on one to compete with Siri. That being said, i would go with Google's own Galaxy Nexus ($350) as they will get all the Android updates first (since its Google's phone) And the Nexus is one of the few that can actually use Google Wallet (NFC) The screen isn't too big, its comfortable in your hand, the battery life is good, and you should have no problem finding a keyboard dock for this phone. In my opinion, the best bang for your buck would be the Galaxy Nexus, and you can buy it from the Google Play Store. Best of luck!

First of all Not sure if this is where it should be i thought putting this in off topic was too far from the point and reading through other threads it didn't seem to fit anywhere, Anyway i'll post it here anyway i would like to think most people on this website would appreciate this and see if i have to valid points and some cool things to show you maybe.
I would firstly like to start with some cool Android game consoles being developed by a company called JXD http://www.jxd.hk/ they're other companies doing this (not as good and more expensive) in my opinion but i'll supply information for you do to your own researched at the bottom of this thread.
Anyway This is the newest console released the S7300 just released a day ago it's quite amazing system and extremely cheap ( older models if you have a budget to test these out starting as low as $20 - $40 USD) This latest one is about $150 it's android the specs are listed here
As you can see the device has possibility for some good gaming and a start to some innovative ideas and maybe bigger companies creating devices similar to this.
What is the point?
Well i was a huge user of my Xperia play and Galaxy s3 which i recently sold for a Android iphone 5 rip off mainly because it looked good worked great and was light enough to go jogging without it annoying me, but this gave me a lack of gaming which i love about my android mobile so i decided to look for an android gaming device it took an hour or so but i found hundreds some on ebay some on random websites, after separating the over priced devices and the ones with poor design and bad hardware i found a website or 2 with the device i was going to purchase, and after looking all day i found there is a good start to this android gaming, but how come it hasn't set off bigger or faster yet, i find it a shame.
What to do?
Well many may disagree but this is the only website i use for anything remotely android related, but i was thinking if XDA could add apart of the forum for unpopular devices such as these underground branded ( Non rip off android devices and the emerging gaming android console and devices ) to increase the speed it picks up i believe if we have people talking about it more and helping sharing in customized apps themes etc... it might help set off the community to use it more which may encourage developers to add more support.
I mean Why Not! we have tablets but everything seems to be big brands Sony, Samsung, Apple, Nokia, i thought this was a website for unlocking your device for better use and doing things with it the majority of us think is "Cool".

for one the touch screen isn't the out dated touch resistant most others use.
First to have an actual dual analog joysticks! and not like the xperia play with the stupid touch slide which i found tedious after a day of use.

this website's most famous brand seems to be the goophone for the iphone 5 android clones but they also make some really good unique none clone designs packing quad core 2gb ram models, would be good if you're looking for some unique designed phone you won't see any friends using.

It has a dual core mali 400, and a dual core a9 clocked at 1.5, it should run most games other mali 400 devices run. I pre ordered one and now waiting for it. I hope it gets popular enough to have a community and a few custom rom builds. It has quite decent specs for emulation(main purpose its being promoted for) and should run almost every game on the android market. The main issue with JDX devices is battery life (is why I hope for custom roms), but the device claims to come pre rooted, you can see pictures of it supposedly having play store support, so if a community does surge for it it could be as popular as the kindle in terms of a dedicated community interested in custom android builds that support better battery use and remove some of its bloatware. im replacing the free 8g card ill get for pre ordering with a 32(64 if it takes it) card and have a decent 40gig snes/ps1 emulation device with touch controls that will let me do the basic things i do on my phone. Since i plan to tether it from my phone, I'm aiming to keep my phone pocketed the whole time, Headset calls, redirect texts to the JXD, and play/browse on the 7 inch screen so if a call comes in my gaming wont be interrupted something that ruins some games that reboot when a call comes in.
Maybe Padone 2 ? over 7k mAh, four core etc... Nothing but fine gaming devices with possibilities
They should make a special section in the forum for JXD Devices. Especially for developers that wants to help with making the device easier to use.

Even if i do a review of their materiel, i still say the thruth, if i find bad point, i say it.
1. Introduction
As some of you already know, xiaomi recently put out a new phone. It was not a Mi3 or a new Mi2 declination, but a new cheaper model: the red rice.
What are the main changes of this phone?
The CPU is still a quad core, but not a qualcomm. This time it is a mediatek CPU (cheaper and a bit less performance)
The Ram is only 1GB (whereas Mi2 had 2GB)
The Memory is 4GB whereas Mi2 had 16 to 32GB.
It contains a micro SD slot, so you can extend the memory to maximum 32GB
The screen size is bigger than the MI2, indeed it went from 4.3“ to 4.7“. The resolution stay the same : 1280x720 (720p)
The back camera is like the 32MB Mi2s a 8MPX model (we will see if the pictures are better or not)
The front camera is a 1.3 MPX model
Of course it runs under MIUI V5 (I didn't find any translation right now... well because the phone is quite rare.. Indeed xiaomi sold them out in 90 seconds, so a big thank you to ibuygou that managed to get some or at least one ^^)
Why was it sold out? Quite easy, the specs are still good, and the price is really cheap

First of all, like I said, it is rare... Only the luckiest people got one
Second, there is one bad point for this phone. Xiaomi decided to make a TD-SDMA/GSM phone and not a W-CDMA/GSM phone. Now you think: What the hell does this meant???
Quite simple: it will not work on 3G outside china You can only use it in 2G or in WiFi
Once again you think: But in this case, why are you reviewing this phone?
First off all, not every one uses his 3G. I know people who almost never use 3G or people who don't use them at all... It may not be your case, but it may be the case of a person you know.
You could have the advantages of a smartphone (nice screen, taking pictures, play games, having a phone) Most people use their phones at home, at work, at friends, at restaurants.... and at tease places you often have WiFi. So you may live without 3G. But i agree, having 3G would be better.
Thant leaves us to my second argument: People over the world (even in china) where so disappointed, that Xiaomi promised to do a W-CDMA red rice
So why not showing you the new Xiaomi phone right now, and maybe you may even find it interesting for someone you know, even without 3G.
2. How does it look like?
Well when I open the DHL package, I was thinking: ohh... same box as my mi2, and indeed the box is the same size, but when you open it you directly see that it is NOT the same phone
The phone is bigger, the screen is bigger, the android buttons are red, the corners are less rounded and the phone has another design... Less iPhone looking

Personally I find that a red phone is horrible, Celline knows that ^^ and she sent me a phone with a color I prefer
Here a picture side by side with my wife’s Mi2 (yeah I have one and she has one ^^ and we love our phones )
The red rice a little big thinner, but not that much (0.3mm on paper) this is not really visible...
Like my mi2, the user manual also says that the SAR value is below or equal 2W/kg. So it respect the European law (if the value is right)
Like the Mi2 the battery is 2000Mha, but don't even think to switch batteries ^^ there are not the same
One good point for this phone is that xiaomi made an access for making the cover removal easier (well it is still not so easy to open ^^ but at least you don't need long solid nails like the Mi2 ^^
Here you see that the red rice has indeed 2 normal SIM slot and a micro SD slot.
I find the micro SD system not so good... You need to push to the up to open it and push to the bottom to open it... That’s weird...
Here a picture of the Red rice booting (unfortunately the android buttons are not backlight ... that was indeed one bad point of the Mi2, wasn't corrected for this one either :/
The screen is indeed bigger, but the resolution is the same, so you loose some DPI compared to the Mi2, but it is still very good. Full HD may (this is not sure, because for so small screens the resolution difference will be dificult to see at least not when holding the phone in the hand) have a better picture quality, but would cost more money and would need more power.
Here are two picture of the phone information, as you can see android 4.2, 1.5Ghz quad core, 1GB Ram and 4GB Memory
The application mobile uncle also confirmed that there is no W-CDMA on the sim card, but only TD-SCMA
Of course i did some tests, and i always got Edge :/ so no 3G with this phone outside china
PS: even with W-CDMA, some manufacturers does not enable it over the 900Mhz frequency and in France if you are outside town, the 3G is mostly over 900Mhz frequencies... In other countries this may be another frequency, I can only speak for what I know.
3) Dual SIM Feature
In the phone preferences you have now a SIM management menu, where you can name your SIM card (by default it has the carrier name) and where you can set the 3G (for this red rice the edge connection) for one SIM (SIM1 or 2)
On the status bar you'll see the two carrier names and the two-signal level. Other dual SIM phone has also color code (blue/green) but here there are both the same color.
I hope that xiaomi will also customize this a bit
If I set the Data connection over the other SIM card, the logo on the header also changed ^^ so the E, 3G or H(+) sign will be on the appropriate SIM slot
The dial pad was a bit redesigned for the dual SIM
Even when dialing, the phone tell you witch SIM card it uses
When you press a line at the phone history, the phone will ask you witch SIM you want to use
for sending SMS/MMS there was also a little redesign, there is no more send button but one button per SIM
Of course if you put just ONE SIM in the phone, the design will be the same as the Mi2... So no double buttons or disabled button but a real Single SIM interface
4. Performances & GPS
Testing this device is quite complicated.
Indeed I was used having a phone that had a ROM from the community, where you can already have the Google apps. (Some roms has them, some other removes them) but I was used having the Google apps. So installing software is painful without the Google play store. So I tried my best to test the phone with some apps. Currently i did not suceeded installing gapps, so i need to find the application apks first :/
a) GPS
The fix was quite fast (about 3 seconds indoor) and it founds a lot of satellites even without a glonass support (the Russian GPS alternative that Mi2 find).
Indeed these Russian Satellites should be shown as triangles in GPS Test. So the GPS of this phone is not using both systems.
This could be helpful for faster location, but like i said i was impressed that it was so good
I also tested the GPS in my car for going to work (about 25km or 40 min) there were no issue. I also drive through another direction because of blocked street, the gps dectected and calculated the new way in about 4 seconds
b) Performances
I didn't see any difference between the red rice and the Mi2, both react fast without any lag.
So the cheaper Quadcore from mediatek isn't so bad
But what does the benchmarking tools says
First Quadrant: the Red rice is a little better than a HTC One X, not so bad for a cheap Chinese phone ^^

Epic citadel : here we see that the CPU/GPU is not as good as the Mi2, but this is also another price ... We can't wait for a low cost phone to have the same specs as the high end phone
c) The audio volume
I tested the volume directly on the device, indeed testing with a headset would depend of the headset quality.
When I tested with the cover, the sound was low and strange... I meant it was like something was vibrating again the speaker.
I turned on my Mi2 and to have the same volume loudness I had to put my mi2 volume to the half :/
Then later, I tested it without the cover (I had the cover dismount because i took out my SIM card and I tested it without closing it and then I had a BIG difference the sound wasn't strange and the loudness was as loud as the Mi2.
I guess this comes from the metallic part of the cover that is here to prevent dirt going in the phone...
I then remove this metal looking part, the sound was better, but the volume difference between with and without cover is still here.. I guess that the red rice cover should had 2 holes for the sound like the mi2
d) Photo quality
I don't know if Xiaomi use the same components as the Mi2, but the photo quality does not seams better or worse
Unfortunately it is already night when i did this review, so i use the flash

e) OTG
The red rice is OTG compatible, i succesful tested it with a PS3 controller
Conclusion
If you don't need 3G (if Wifi + 2G from time to time) is enough for you, this phone is certainly the cheapest smartphone with great quality out on the market.
Chinese people who order it had done a great deal.
Indeed the only negative points, in my opinion, for this phone are:
A: the sound quality/volume with the cover could be better
B: the need of an sd card. Indeed xiaomi could have included 16GB or 8Gb because 4Gb will be filled pretty fast. But if you already have an sd card, this is not a big deal ^^
C: of course the missing 3g, but like I said, if you don't use it that often or if you don't need it, it would make a perfect smartphone for you. If you need 3G, you could wait for the W-CDMA revision of this phone, but here I don't know how long you may wait.
In my opinion, if Xiaomi quickly made a W-CDMA version of this phone, it would certainly be exported as good as the Mi2
But maybe they did this on purpose so the Mi2 and Mi3 will be exported more ... who knows..
Unfortunately i you need further tests i can't do them. Indeed i gave this phone to a Miui fan site to help to help the french translation.

They may also make some crazy deal like they often do with xiaomi products, so it may be possible that you get this phone for a really good price

Yes red rice 2 will come with 1.7Ghz Octacore CPU. Also will be 5.5" display. Well if the current version is amazing I imagine that, specially the prices. It's incredible how they sell amazing phones with theses prices.
The downside of the 2nd generation is the screen size 5.5". To big in my opinion.
In the 80's people used to carry the stereo in their shoulders (ridiculous lol) we are almost there again but we will be carrying a flat screen tv that also makes calls lolol.
I think it's just uncomfortable phones so big, but is just an opinion

But absence of Google Play and Apps, lack of any guidance about how to make it work and missing backlit buttons......are turning me down and asking me to make a turn in the lane of Huawei Honor 3C (2GB version, albeit with a less powerful MTK6582 processor without USB OTG).
Guess I will head to the nearest exit to make this turn.

Is someone is interested, the Xiaomi Red Rice (or Redmi) phone just got released in Singapore and Malaysia with WCDMA so 3G is possible outside China now (although only on one of the two SIM Slots). But the best thing, it only cost 169 SGD (about 100 EUR or 133 US$). Bad thing is, it sold out within 8 minutes. But this week there is the IT Show in Singapore and Starhub (one of the local Telcos) is selling the Redmi for 169 SGD, but you have to purchase a 15 SGD Prepaid Card and a 18 SGD Top-Up Card which pushes the prices slightly over 200 SGD (but you get a rather big plush rabbit from LINE as a promotional toy ). I was lucky enough to get one and I really agree with the review, it is an awsome phone, specially considering the price point. An over 300 dpi display, a MIUI Rom (which is pretty good, but unfortunately still based on 4.2.2) and around 1.5 days battery time on normal use with one Sim and 3G. I also have an HTC One (which I recently bricked and I can't recover) and since I don't play that many games I honestly can't see myself buying such a high-end phone again, even if I love the HTC One built quality.
Here are some more infos, I don't have the slightest clue if this phone will come to Europa or America at one point.

You can buy WCDMA version direct from China webshops since months, which is working in Europe as well. Price is between 180 USD-210 USD (based on sales actions). With choosing custom ROM (Ultimate) you have the possibility to switch 3G between the two SIM-slots as well. I agree, it is one of the best-value-for-money phone. Using it with 2 SIM cards 3G always on and come to approx. 36 hours usage time with 5+ hours screen-on

Have had the phone for a couple of days now, and I really like the phone, but there is a few problems.
- Still some Chinese text here and there
- Unable to connect to PC. Device not recognized by two win10 computers.
- Lock screen, unable to turn of the roll of Chinese pictures.
- Play Store, unable to update or download via mobile network, only via wifi
- Clock widgets tend to not being synchronized with phone clock. They stop showing correct time
These are very unique type of Mobiles that i ever see in mobile market. Here in Pakistan Xiaomi Mobiles are coming Soon. The first look i explored on the internet was quite amazing. I am keeping its rank after i phone luxury looks and feel.I will definitely buy this phone if prices would not so high.

Hi, I can solve some problems for you.
Lock screen roll of pictures. Normally you can disable it if you put a wallpaper for lockscreen. Or to click on the small icon in the top right corner of your lockscreen.
Play Store, not able to download on mobile network. You need to disable the download limit in the settings of the "downloads" app.
Love the phone, thought the build quality was excellent BUT my daughter dropped it and the case has split. I dropped my htc one, galaxy s, nexus 4 and a whole host of other phones a 100 times and there was no problem. Really disappointed
Only other major issue is the phone gets locked out "this phone has been lost" many many times a day. Sometimes i cannot use it for hours at a time because activation does not work.

When she dropped it, it hit the top right corner. The metal body is VERY weak apparently (see bend tests), so soft it pushed in. So now the back glass panel on that corner is separated from the aluminium frame. It always felt fragile, the glass is so smooth is slides off even grippy surfaces! BUT it is meant to be a flagship top of the market phone so i did expect more. This is the problem when one of the largest smart phone producers doesn't sell in the internet exclusion zone (Australia & NZ). No repair centres, no accessories in stores probably no warranty. Long wait for new cables, cases and anything else.
I'm starting to see LOTS of software issues now too, MIUI has always been that way though. Be good when some custom roms come out. I guess you get what you pay for. It's no Galaxy s7, HTC one or LG that's forsure.

Having brands like Samsung, LG and others ask so much for their flagship phones is not an excuse, they sometimes cost 4 times less to build than they sell for.
But thinking you actually get a top of the line phone for prices like these (not talking about the prices those online import shops ask for the devices when you're not living in asia, but the actual prices Xiaomi sells the phones for) there has to be some compromise... this time it's mainly the build strength.
The moment you get this phone, GET A CASE asap! You don't want to break it when accidentally sitting on it :'(
Want a less break prone version? Get the 128 ceramic version.
Got the phone damaged? YouTube hugo barra tearing a mi5 apart, good reparability.

Love this phone. I was skeptical at first as their past phones were less than stellar imo but the specs at this price point was too good to pass up.
Have had it for around 2 weeks now, and though still minor quirks with software here and there, all around very happy and haven't run into any major issues.
Great battery life as well. As to be expected, the body is quite fragile but as I'm very careful with my belongings, I don't think I'll be dropping it *knock on wood*
The Mi 5 will be replacing my S7 - call me crazy, but the only downside (only taking into consideration features I use) I've found so far is that the camera is obviously worse. No biggie since I always bring my DSLR for any proper events, and this way I can save some money.

I've bought a Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro 128 GB (at tradingshenzhen.com)
I've unlocked bootloader, TWRP, rooted, and installed Mi 5 Global Developer Rom 6.5.30 (recently updatet itself to MIUI 8 6.8.11)
The Hardware looks and feels nice. Only negative point I could mention: After some days of use I recogniced a clicking sound when I softly push the center of the backside glas (ceramic).
The Software in my opinion can compete with Samsung (there I have the direct comparison) and other brands. In some Points it's better, in some points it's a little behinde the concurence.
My impressions in detail:
Positive:
+ An amazing feauture added in 6.8.11 is the "Dual Apps" function in the settings menu. If you have dual sim, thats a extreamly important feauture. Otherwhise you cannot use WhatsApp on both Numbers. Whit MIUI 8 you can. And this whitout using WhatsApp clones as WhatsAppGB (which I used bevore MIUI 8). (I don't know if other DualSim Devices have this feauture)
+ I've bought the Nillkin Backcover (black) and the Nillkin Flipcover. (Dark Grey) Both are great but the Flipcover is quite glossy, what I dont like.
+ I've bought an USB-C to USB 3 (female jack) cable to connect external storage (for TWRP-Backup etc.) and other devices. I wasn't able to save the TWRP-Backup direct on the external storage, so I made an internal backup and copied it to an external fat-harddrive. The main thing is, that I have an external backup (whitout MicroSD-Cardslot a little challange)
+ IR Sensor to controll HiFi and TV! ZaZa remote is my favourit App to use it.
Negative:
- No possibility to distinguish the SMS-Inbox of the two mobilenumbers. Sure, there is this little "1" or "2" behind the date. But what I would like to see is a "Dual App" for the Messages-App, a possibility to filter the messages by mobilenumber or two tabs on top of the Display where I can choose the two SIM-Cards. Anything like that would be verry nice!
- MIUI don't give me the possibility to add an App-Link into two different folders on the homescreen =(
- No support of ExFat formated storage via USB-C (nor NTFS or HFS+) Any tip to solve this is verry welcome!
- E-Mail App does allow me to add different arriving IMAP and outgoing SMTP server but have NO possibility to add a different login for these two servers. A verry important feauture for me. (My Samsung was able to make this difference). Any hint is verry welcome! I've tried some other E-Mail Apps but didn't find one that can handle all my needs.

When I was writing text, I had this annoying red lines under words which weren’t known by the System. I wasn’t able to find a menu-point to switch them off. My search engine helped me out with this Link. You have to open an adb shell and enter „settings put secure spell_checker_enabled 0“. With „settings put secure spell_checker_enabled 1“ you can switch them back on, if needed.
short mi5 review
Really happy with mine after 3 months, had a bit of pain getting off the vendor rom and figuring out all of the battery optimizations and over zealous permissions.
Once I sorted all of that threw the google now launcher (app drawer back ,Yuss !) on it and very happy. Super snappy after my nexus 5x and the camera is great. Low light could be better but you just use the HHT low light mode and its all good. Battery life is great, I am usually at around 40% after a full day. used a nilikin case from the start and love it, the size and weight is perfect.
The rear fingerprint sensor on the nexus was way better but the mi5 but that is mostly positioning, in my opinion rear sensor wins. Great phone and very happy with it, the only issue was software niggles which are getting better and better.
Loving mine too. Really impressive phone for the price.
I have the phone with international ROM, camera is very good. But it has some bugs.. Like Bluetooth and Gmail connection which sometimes fails and always connected to Mi stuff which i dont like.Its not that fast either, im thinking to try out the nexus 5x because its in the same price region.

I've listet the eMail App as an negative point, so no superior things. The point is, that I was looking for a Mail App which chould cover my needs some years ago, and didn't found one. When I bought the Mi5 I just tried the wrong apps. BlueMail works great for my needs, thanks a lot for the hint!!! Cloud Magic I wasn't able to configure a different SMTP login (the function is existent, but it didn't accepted my server).
