My Review of the brand new Xiaomi Red Rice phone - Android General

Special thanks to ibuygou !
First off all, a really BIG thank you for ibuygou for sending me a red rice so i could make a review of this phone. If you need a phone, buy it on there shop, they have good prices, often special deals and are really nice people who take the time to answer people.
I really meant this.
Even if i do a review of their materiel, i still say the thruth, if i find bad point, i say it.
1. Introduction
As some of you already know, xiaomi recently put out a new phone. It was not a Mi3 or a new Mi2 declination, but a new cheaper model: the red rice.
What are the main changes of this phone?
The CPU is still a quad core, but not a qualcomm. This time it is a mediatek CPU (cheaper and a bit less performance)
The Ram is only 1GB (whereas Mi2 had 2GB)
The Memory is 4GB whereas Mi2 had 16 to 32GB.
It contains a micro SD slot, so you can extend the memory to maximum 32GB
The screen size is bigger than the MI2, indeed it went from 4.3“ to 4.7“. The resolution stay the same : 1280x720 (720p)
The back camera is like the 32MB Mi2s a 8MPX model (we will see if the pictures are better or not)
The front camera is a 1.3 MPX model
Of course it runs under MIUI V5 (I didn't find any translation right now... well because the phone is quite rare.. Indeed xiaomi sold them out in 90 seconds, so a big thank you to ibuygou that managed to get some or at least one ^^)
Why was it sold out? Quite easy, the specs are still good, and the price is really cheap
But if it is a super phone, why doesn't it have it own category?
First of all, like I said, it is rare... Only the luckiest people got one
Second, there is one bad point for this phone. Xiaomi decided to make a TD-SDMA/GSM phone and not a W-CDMA/GSM phone. Now you think: What the hell does this meant???
Quite simple: it will not work on 3G outside china You can only use it in 2G or in WiFi
Once again you think: But in this case, why are you reviewing this phone?
First off all, not every one uses his 3G. I know people who almost never use 3G or people who don't use them at all... It may not be your case, but it may be the case of a person you know.
You could have the advantages of a smartphone (nice screen, taking pictures, play games, having a phone) Most people use their phones at home, at work, at friends, at restaurants.... and at tease places you often have WiFi. So you may live without 3G. But i agree, having 3G would be better.
Thant leaves us to my second argument: People over the world (even in china) where so disappointed, that Xiaomi promised to do a W-CDMA red rice
So why not showing you the new Xiaomi phone right now, and maybe you may even find it interesting for someone you know, even without 3G.
2. How does it look like?
Well when I open the DHL package, I was thinking: ohh... same box as my mi2, and indeed the box is the same size, but when you open it you directly see that it is NOT the same phone
The phone is bigger, the screen is bigger, the android buttons are red, the corners are less rounded and the phone has another design... Less iPhone looking

Personally I find that a red phone is horrible, Celline knows that ^^ and she sent me a phone with a color I prefer
Here a picture side by side with my wife’s Mi2 (yeah I have one and she has one ^^ and we love our phones )
The red rice a little big thinner, but not that much (0.3mm on paper) this is not really visible...
Like my mi2, the user manual also says that the SAR value is below or equal 2W/kg. So it respect the European law (if the value is right)
Like the Mi2 the battery is 2000Mha, but don't even think to switch batteries ^^ there are not the same
One good point for this phone is that xiaomi made an access for making the cover removal easier (well it is still not so easy to open ^^ but at least you don't need long solid nails like the Mi2 ^^
Here you see that the red rice has indeed 2 normal SIM slot and a micro SD slot.
I find the micro SD system not so good... You need to push to the up to open it and push to the bottom to open it... That’s weird...
Here a picture of the Red rice booting (unfortunately the android buttons are not backlight ... that was indeed one bad point of the Mi2, wasn't corrected for this one either :/
The screen is indeed bigger, but the resolution is the same, so you loose some DPI compared to the Mi2, but it is still very good. Full HD may (this is not sure, because for so small screens the resolution difference will be dificult to see at least not when holding the phone in the hand) have a better picture quality, but would cost more money and would need more power.
Here are two picture of the phone information, as you can see android 4.2, 1.5Ghz quad core, 1GB Ram and 4GB Memory
The application mobile uncle also confirmed that there is no W-CDMA on the sim card, but only TD-SCMA
Of course i did some tests, and i always got Edge :/ so no 3G with this phone outside china
PS: even with W-CDMA, some manufacturers does not enable it over the 900Mhz frequency and in France if you are outside town, the 3G is mostly over 900Mhz frequencies... In other countries this may be another frequency, I can only speak for what I know.
3) Dual SIM Feature
In the phone preferences you have now a SIM management menu, where you can name your SIM card (by default it has the carrier name) and where you can set the 3G (for this red rice the edge connection) for one SIM (SIM1 or 2)
On the status bar you'll see the two carrier names and the two-signal level. Other dual SIM phone has also color code (blue/green) but here there are both the same color.
I hope that xiaomi will also customize this a bit
If I set the Data connection over the other SIM card, the logo on the header also changed ^^ so the E, 3G or H(+) sign will be on the appropriate SIM slot
The dial pad was a bit redesigned for the dual SIM
Even when dialing, the phone tell you witch SIM card it uses
When you press a line at the phone history, the phone will ask you witch SIM you want to use
for sending SMS/MMS there was also a little redesign, there is no more send button but one button per SIM
Of course if you put just ONE SIM in the phone, the design will be the same as the Mi2... So no double buttons or disabled button but a real Single SIM interface
4. Performances & GPS
Testing this device is quite complicated.
Indeed I was used having a phone that had a ROM from the community, where you can already have the Google apps. (Some roms has them, some other removes them) but I was used having the Google apps. So installing software is painful without the Google play store. So I tried my best to test the phone with some apps. Currently i did not suceeded installing gapps, so i need to find the application apks first :/
a) GPS
The fix was quite fast (about 3 seconds indoor) and it founds a lot of satellites even without a glonass support (the Russian GPS alternative that Mi2 find).
Indeed these Russian Satellites should be shown as triangles in GPS Test. So the GPS of this phone is not using both systems.
This could be helpful for faster location, but like i said i was impressed that it was so good
I also tested the GPS in my car for going to work (about 25km or 40 min) there were no issue. I also drive through another direction because of blocked street, the gps dectected and calculated the new way in about 4 seconds
b) Performances
I didn't see any difference between the red rice and the Mi2, both react fast without any lag.
So the cheaper Quadcore from mediatek isn't so bad
But what does the benchmarking tools says
First Quadrant: the Red rice is a little better than a HTC One X, not so bad for a cheap Chinese phone ^^
Antutu
Epic citadel : here we see that the CPU/GPU is not as good as the Mi2, but this is also another price ... We can't wait for a low cost phone to have the same specs as the high end phone
c) The audio volume
I tested the volume directly on the device, indeed testing with a headset would depend of the headset quality.
When I tested with the cover, the sound was low and strange... I meant it was like something was vibrating again the speaker.
I turned on my Mi2 and to have the same volume loudness I had to put my mi2 volume to the half :/
Then later, I tested it without the cover (I had the cover dismount because i took out my SIM card and I tested it without closing it and then I had a BIG difference the sound wasn't strange and the loudness was as loud as the Mi2.
I guess this comes from the metallic part of the cover that is here to prevent dirt going in the phone...
I then remove this metal looking part, the sound was better, but the volume difference between with and without cover is still here.. I guess that the red rice cover should had 2 holes for the sound like the mi2
d) Photo quality
I don't know if Xiaomi use the same components as the Mi2, but the photo quality does not seams better or worse
Unfortunately it is already night when i did this review, so i use the flash
Here is a picture I made of my dog (click on in for full size)
e) OTG
The red rice is OTG compatible, i succesful tested it with a PS3 controller
Conclusion
If you don't need 3G (if Wifi + 2G from time to time) is enough for you, this phone is certainly the cheapest smartphone with great quality out on the market.
Chinese people who order it had done a great deal.
Indeed the only negative points, in my opinion, for this phone are:
A: the sound quality/volume with the cover could be better
B: the need of an sd card. Indeed xiaomi could have included 16GB or 8Gb because 4Gb will be filled pretty fast. But if you already have an sd card, this is not a big deal ^^
C: of course the missing 3g, but like I said, if you don't use it that often or if you don't need it, it would make a perfect smartphone for you. If you need 3G, you could wait for the W-CDMA revision of this phone, but here I don't know how long you may wait.
In my opinion, if Xiaomi quickly made a W-CDMA version of this phone, it would certainly be exported as good as the Mi2
But maybe they did this on purpose so the Mi2 and Mi3 will be exported more ... who knows..
Unfortunately i you need further tests i can't do them. Indeed i gave this phone to a Miui fan site to help to help the french translation.
So if your are interested in this phone, you’ll find it at ibuygou
They may also make some crazy deal like they often do with xiaomi products, so it may be possible that you get this phone for a really good price

+1 :good:
Great review, it has been a very good help to decide my next adquisition
Regards

Xiaomi hongmi will be upgraded to eight cores, is that true?

Yes will be likeb a rainbow

Yes red rice 2 will come with 1.7Ghz Octacore CPU. Also will be 5.5" display. Well if the current version is amazing I imagine that, specially the prices. It's incredible how they sell amazing phones with theses prices.
The downside of the 2nd generation is the screen size 5.5". To big in my opinion.
In the 80's people used to carry the stereo in their shoulders (ridiculous lol) we are almost there again but we will be carrying a flat screen tv that also makes calls lolol.
I think it's just uncomfortable phones so big, but is just an opinion

Ok,
I just was about to buy it...i mean tonight on my way back from work.....
But absence of Google Play and Apps, lack of any guidance about how to make it work and missing backlit buttons......are turning me down and asking me to make a turn in the lane of Huawei Honor 3C (2GB version, albeit with a less powerful MTK6582 processor without USB OTG).
Guess I will head to the nearest exit to make this turn.
Thanks.

you are on xda , it's so difficult to flash a gapps file for miui ?????

Is someone is interested, the Xiaomi Red Rice (or Redmi) phone just got released in Singapore and Malaysia with WCDMA so 3G is possible outside China now (although only on one of the two SIM Slots). But the best thing, it only cost 169 SGD (about 100 EUR or 133 US$). Bad thing is, it sold out within 8 minutes. But this week there is the IT Show in Singapore and Starhub (one of the local Telcos) is selling the Redmi for 169 SGD, but you have to purchase a 15 SGD Prepaid Card and a 18 SGD Top-Up Card which pushes the prices slightly over 200 SGD (but you get a rather big plush rabbit from LINE as a promotional toy ). I was lucky enough to get one and I really agree with the review, it is an awsome phone, specially considering the price point. An over 300 dpi display, a MIUI Rom (which is pretty good, but unfortunately still based on 4.2.2) and around 1.5 days battery time on normal use with one Sim and 3G. I also have an HTC One (which I recently bricked and I can't recover) and since I don't play that many games I honestly can't see myself buying such a high-end phone again, even if I love the HTC One built quality.
Here are some more infos, I don't have the slightest clue if this phone will come to Europa or America at one point.
Since I can't post links yet, google for 'Redmi Singapore' and you can see the specs of the phone there.

You can buy WCDMA version direct from China webshops since months, which is working in Europe as well. Price is between 180 USD-210 USD (based on sales actions). With choosing custom ROM (Ultimate) you have the possibility to switch 3G between the two SIM-slots as well. I agree, it is one of the best-value-for-money phone. Using it with 2 SIM cards 3G always on and come to approx. 36 hours usage time with 5+ hours screen-on

Thanks for the review.

Hello to all
I recently bought a RED RICE, nice I like it.
the control of the code on the box, and using CPU-Z
it should just be an original RR, and antutu give me some like this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OKnAFrQkf3A
However, I would like to do the update of miui but I miss the updater app, and if I go on
System updates and I click on the arrow on the phone back home.
I have to enable something to go on?
these screenshots made with cpu-z
so tell me if you notice any strangeness

Price further reduced to SGD 299.

I got my HTC TyTN II two weeks back. It was a gift from my close friend. You gotta be lucky to have a friend like this. It was in fact a surprise me. He got the Demon looking black box to office and he gave that to me all of a sudden. It was wrapped in poly ethene cover. I could find no clues of what he is giving. Finally the suspense broke when I saw the black box with the HTC logo and then I thought that "Boy that would be a Kaiser". We've been discussing about Kaiser for quite sometime and its salient features.
It was just a WOW feeling and words couldn't explain how I felt. It was a sexiest piece of a phone. The glossy finish to the front and the mat finish to the back was a deadly combination of look and feel. Especially the answering keys were glimmering with the silver finish. At the outset the look and feel of the phone was breath taking. The color combinations took its major contribution. Thanks to HTC's designers to put a sexiest piece of innovative technology on earth.
I had a HTC Prophet before. I got the same level of excitement and happiness as I got a year back when I first held my Prophet, this time in fact the excitement was a bit more because of the sliding key board with the "Wind Chime" sound which was a hair rising experience. For a long time I was just gazing at the marvellous piece without doing anything on the phone. One was due to the surprise which is quite obvious and secondly due to the look and feel and the features of the wonderful innovation.
I was astonished looking at the size of the mobile, I placed both Prophet and TyTN II side by side and I was comparing the thickness of the phone, not much of a difference could I find having the sliding key board in my in TyTN II where as that was not there in Prophet. To have a keyboard to that size was a remarkable achievement on the size reduction to the device. It is so compact. The sliding key board has a sensor to it so that it based on the light available in the ambience the back light for the key board is active, which is a good feature to save battery power. The key board key is in tact that being a non key board user for the past one year I was able to type in easily without much of huzzles. The only point which keeps worrying me is that the soft keys are not bound properly, it is loosely packed to the base, I'm scared whether that would wear off on the long run . I checked with the dealer and he told that all pieces have the same problem. Not sure whether any body else has the similar problem. The tilt feature till 40 degrees vertically is a innovative feature and next time around you don't have to peep into the mobile, all you have to place the device on your desk, slide the key board and tilt the screen to your ease and see what's there on the mobile screen. This feature gives you a comfortable feature of watching a movie placing the device on your table and you dont have to worry about a cradle for your device isn't it just cool . Plug in the ear phones, tilt the screen and watch your favorite movie on your device at your table.
There were days I use to worry about dumping softwares into the Prophet but time isn't the same , now I got the TyTN II where I don't even have to worry about the memory having 256 MB Internal Flash, 128 MB RAM. Having installed close around 15 different softwares it is just stable and it does not break down. In the past two weeks to my rememberance I would have done a soft reset once or twice. Couldn't believe that I have a stable windows based mobile device at hand. I was a bit uncomfortable with the placement of stylus, got used to looking at stylus in the top right corner for an year whereas I got to look to the right bottom of the device. The SIM card deck is just been brought outside the battery casing and placed beneath the sliding screen in a way is good that you don't have to open the battery casing often, if there's going to be any problem with SIM card. To the other side, looking at the security of SIM card, you just have to unlock the SIM case and take the SIM out, it is as easy as that.
The reception of radio is fine, comparing my previous device I just feel that the sound is bit enriched. Moreover the volume control is not just a sliding button to the side of your device instead it is a wheel which gives much more in ease of operation. It also acts like a scroll wheel for the other applications and you need not take out the stylus and scroll for what you are searching for. By pressing the scroll wheel, the item which is selected gets opened. Indirectly the probability of you pulling out the stylus gets minimised with TyTN II.
Having an on board GPS built in, it proves the real power of it. Say bye bye to external GPS receiver to your device. It is in deed is in built in the device, just rocks. The reason I say that it is powerful is that, I have installed VITO Navigator II and my friend had installed the same in his Dopod U1000. In Dopod U1000 we were doing all sort of funny actions to trace satellites , we were holding the U1000 just right above our heads so that device could plot some satellites and the maximum we could find is only 4 and comparing that, TyTN II having the in built GPS could easily trace 9-12 satellites. I couldn't probably enjoy the practical features of GPS being in Chennai - India and I hope in the coming days it would be really useful.
The On/Off button in the device, is placed to the surface of the side. It would have been better if the button would have been a bit projected so that user need not search for the button and every time I have to Switch On/Switch Off the device it is a bit difficult to perform the operation as it is to the same surface level of the casing. Moreover in the night it is really difficult in the dark to Swith On/Switch Off the device, First is to plot where the button is and secondly to press it correctly. Most of the time I land up pressing the casing of the device thinking that the button is there. It would have been really useful if there could be a back light option for the On/Off button.
A little bit of disappointment towards the battery life. My talk time for a day would be normally an hour on an average and this is spanned across the day (not a continuous talk time) and I perform basic operations on the device and normally I don't watch movies and listen to music. The battery last for only 1.5 days max, where as for the same operations Prophet use to last for two full days and at times even a bit longer.
The touch response is really awesome and it is just that smooth that you don't have to strain with the stylus for any operations.
The color reproduction in this phone is amazing. It really has the vibrant colors in it. I've kept only half the brightness but still it is producing good results. It would be have still better if TyTN II is equiped with a VGA Screen instead of QVGA screen. But with the same Battery (1350mAh), QVGA is the optimum screen resolution.
The 3 MP camera has just proven its caliber. The picture quality is really good and even the videos. The videos taken are just smooth and the transition is just a remarkable break through. The enhanced sound quality makes you feel good to listen to more and good songs and I have installed Pocket Player and having the equalizer set, I could really feel the clarity of sound coming from the speaker. Listening to the same music with the same equalizer setup in Prophet is just out of question. I hope it is just a boom for the music lovers to listen to music in their PPC. The mat finish to the base of the mobile is also a worrying factor, I'm a bit sceptical whether the surface could easily get scratches due to mobile handling and which in turn could spoil the look of the fone.
Plus:
Screen tilt till 40 degrees.
Slide Keyboard.
On board GPS.
Enhanced Memory capacities.
The Micro SD card has a cover to it, which prevents dust getting into the device.
Buttons made compact and in correct placements.
Good sound clarity.
Good pictures off the 3MP camera.
Usage of stylus is minimized having the scroll wheel.
It’s a truly global device. It will work anywhere in the world.
Minus:
Mat finish for the base of the device prone to get scratches very easily, which spoils the look of the device.
Soft keys on the sliding key board is not bound properly to the board.
On/Off button takes an extra care to perform the operation.
SIM card casing provided beneath the sliding screen seems to be a bit insecure considering the security aspect.
No VGA Screen

I bought mine from Singapore and am using it in Bangalore, India. The phone came with Mapking software pre-installed with one free map. That was cool. THe portion of the phone that scratches quite easily is the camera cover on the battery door. My phones a month old with several scratches on it already and I baby my phone quite a bit(No using a screen protector on a part of it). Installed a screen protector(first thing I always do with my touch screen phones.)
HTC India does not support the TyTyn2 since it has'nt been laucnhed here. If you want to buy it you'd need to get it on the grey market or import it yourself.
Its an amazing phone. prefer it to anything else available on the market at the moment. It being my first Windows based phone I really doubt I'd use anything else again(coming from EZX-Linux and UIQ previous to that).

Akshay

All the mahor cities are mapped reasonably well. When I was using the Motorola E6, Ihad a hloux GPS system to go with it, ran MGMaps with offline maps and downloaded GMaps of the entire South INdia so it worked almost everywhere, highway mappings are of the major roads only, while detailed maps of only the big citites are available. THe Bangalore map provided by MapKing is reasoably ok, but you cant use the route fix since the one-ways etc. keep changing week after week. But to know your position its more than sufficent.
I have no idea how much its in the grey market, but in Singapore I paid 750USD for it. Its the TyTyn2 and not the Tilt. I suppose if it is avialable in the grey market should be around 1000USD.
Hope this answers most of your questions
God bless ya man
Yes you did
The Tilt is same as Tytn II just some less software
& no front cam, cos in USA Service providers dont support it

I was using destinator before I flashed with the newer roms. Destinator seems to crash all the time on my Tytn II. It goes down and takes the task bar with it. Haven't been able to figure out what causes this... but loved it though.
Mapmyindia is also quite good, but stuck with landscape mode in that.
My brother has a TyTn II and all i can say (compared to my eten g500+..............................) is that this pda deserves some serious respect, even by the newest HTC Touch Pro.

Need help choosing a dual sim phone

Hello everyone,
I looked around all of the internal forums and general appeared to be the best.
In short I am looking for a good dual sim phone that doesn't need a soft reboot to switch between sims. I have to be able to get calls on both, essentially looking like call waiting is working.
Here are must haves:
Unlimited ring tone assignment (the dual I have now limits me to 10 ringtones). I have a ton of referral sources calling as well as personal calls and I need to know who I can ignore by sound and who I have to answer.
External memory SD or Micro (for the ringtones) unless it has a large enough internal
Dual sim of course...
AT&T service currently, and would prefer to stay but not married to them. Lesser of 5 evils basically (1900MHZ)
My preferences:
I've had my fun playing with all of the stuff from here for windows mobile, but I just can't take the slow speed anymore. I am open to a smartphone or non smartphone, but if it is a smartphone I need it to react nearly instantly.
I would prefer a flip phone, mainly because I'm getting frustrated with applying new screen covers to protect my screen so often. So I guess I should say, if it's a touch screen non flip then I'd like to be able to buy 50 precut screen covers out the gate (not really concerned about price). (currently have a Fuze and I'm sick of the snail speed and still can't find the precut screen covers - although I have determined how to increase speed, and will do so once I get my new phone... drive 80 MPH and throw it out the window!)
I really think that about covers it. When I do a Google search for a dual sim I just end up at one of a hundred Chinese wholesale sites, and most of their phones have their own OS with tons of limitations.
Thanks ahead of time! (btw price isn't a big issue, although less cost is always better)
So in browsing through old posts here I found Expansys and in looking at them I found this...Samsung B5702 ... it may very well be what I want. The price seems pretty over the top for a non smart phone, but I'm guessing it's cheaper elsewhere... Does anyone happen to have this phone who could give me their take on it? Thank you,
So I bought the LG Ks660 from Amazon... could have paid about $30 less through another lesser known, but I figured it's worth the $30 to know I'd get it and it would be easy to return if it blows.
I paid $260 for it, which is about $160 more than your typical dual sim/dual standby Chinese cells but I hope it has what I need. The one dual I have from China limits the ringtones, which to me is a must these days on phones.
I'll post the results of my first few days of testing in case anyone else has two cell lines but is sick of carrying the two phones. Due to arrive tomorrow... I had to choose impatient shipping...

Leagoo lead 7 Unboxing and Hands on review-- 5inch HD JDI IPS screen and 4500mAh smar

Leagoo is a new brand for most customers as one of China famous smartphones' supplier, but in the past year, Leagoo has developed fast and swiftly with various products, competitive price and superior service. Since the great success of Leagoo Lead 3, Leagoo lead 1, Leagoo has acquired the powerful encouragement to continue to make every effort to produce better products. Now, this time, Leagoo
brings a flagship smartphone, Leagoo Lead 7, it's well-known for the large capacity battery with 4500mAh. I have got this smartphone, and would like to share my experience about this smartphone.

First amazing feature: 4500mAh battery
As a professional user, a large capacity battery is very inevitable and vital to have a good experience of a smartphone. It's built in 4500mAh battery, and it can support up to 450hours standby time after one-time charging, and i can talk in one day without stop. This is the charm of leagoo lead 7. I would like to let you know the power of this smartphone. Meanwhile, i can listen to the music and watch movies without stop.
Second wonderful feature: MTK6582 Quad core 1.3GHZ Processor
It may be not outstanding that it is powered by mtk6582 quad core 1.3ghz processor, becauase nowadays, 64bit processor mtk6732 or mtk6752 has become popular and hot, that's ok about the mtk6582 quad core cpu, especially 4G LTE has not been in common, i don't need to 4G LTE network, therefore, quad core smartphone is good enough for me to play games, and search the Internet.
No. 3 feature: 5.0 Inch 1280 * 720 HD JDI IPS Screen
I prefer to the 5inch screen size when i choose a smartphone. Due to the hand feel, and the size of my palm, and i can put in my pocket freely. Meanwhile, it uses HD JDI IPS screen with 1280*720p screen resolution. Although it's not FHD IPS screen, i should be disappointed in this smartphone, but when i watch TV plays, play games or do other tasks. The screen playing quality and clearity are very high and vivid. That's the one highlight that i like most.
No.4 feature: 13.0MP Master camera and 8.0MP Front camera
The other function that i propose most is the dual camera with 13.0MP back and 8.0MP front camera. Most smartphones don't have the main camera with 13.0MP. That is to say, Leagoo lead 7 has made big progress that it has made the camera to support 13.0MP. The higher pixels the camera is, the clear-cut the photos taken are. I try to take pictures in the day and at night. There is no bad picture quality shooting in the day, but it may be a little dark taking pictures at night. But the light can be adjusted according to the smartphone. It's awesome about the dual camera.
No.5 feature: OTG, 3G, Google play store, multi-language
Other practical features like OTG function, google play store and multi-language and so on. It supports OTG function which lets i charge my smartphone and other smartphone freely because of the large capacity battery. And i can download trendy and hot apps for free in google play store. About multi-language, it brings me much convenience to set up in my local language. Much stronger users' experience have made me excited.
In conclusion, leagoo lead 7 has 4500mAh large capaticy battery which is the most satisfied feature i think. Currently, a large capacity smartphone is not as many as it can produce, including those big brand such as Apple, Samsung and so on. As for Chinese smartphone, Elephone P5000 is said to have more than 5000mAh battery, and thl has released THL 5000 with 5000mAh battery, and thl 4400mAh battery, and others don't manufacture like them. Whether like it or not, just have a try. Miracle can happen in our real life.
@cdd3111: stop posting cheap china-phone shop marketing and tell us the real stuff for xda: is there a Custom ROM for MTK6582 or has MediaTek released hardware sources for KitKat or Lollipop???
A real user posting about the Lead 7
I purchased a Lead 7 phone from Geekbuying. It's a Chinese Marketplace. I paid with PayPal (to provide some level of protection) and had it shipped DHL. Just to add more believability (besides the fact that I type in American English) my DHL tracking number was 2723845025. I don't know how long it can be tracked, but at least it gives you something to verify if you happen across this soon.
I bought this phone because I wanted a decent camera on my phone, I was hoping that the battery life was what they are claiming it would be, and I am planning on spending some time in Africa where having two SIM cards is a plus. In short I am satisfied with the camera, but I am not satisfied with the battery life.
I am a casual phone user and I am very cheap, so take all of this through that filter. I am also an electrical engineer, so I have some technical ability, though my expertise is in embedded electronics. I am moving up from a Sony Xperia Tipo Duo (yeah... I know).
I have no complaints about the shipping or packaging. The phone itself is a nice size and a nice build. It doesn't feel cheap. The screen is beautiful, very bright, very wide viewing angle. I am very happy with the camera. I am not a photography expert, I just want good pictures of my kids and family from my phone. It has touch to focus. Actually both front facing (8MP) and back facing (13MP) cameras take nice pictures, as a casual user I am very satisfied.
The UI is ok. I don't particularly like their audio app or their photo app/ window that is permanently one of the windows you slide to, but I can live with it. I was able to get root using Kingo Root. Though I can't update the binaries for SuperSU. I have tried both normal mode and TWRP but wasn't successful (Installing the .zip failed in TWRP). I haven't messed with it much further to figure that out (any suggestions to save me some time would be appreciated).
Now the biggest issue. The battery capacity seems too good to be true, I knew that purchasing it, but still it was worth a try. This is one thing that I can talk completely competently about. I was not satisfied with what I was getting run time wise out of the phone (About 26hrs. of moderate use before needing to charge). Nothing near what the mfg. was claiming. I checked usage some with Better Battery Stats. The hardware does seem to quickly suck juice. Well, I decided to do a battery test outside the phone. See attached picture and chart. Basically, the battery is performing more like at 3500mAHrs. They are lying about the 4500mAHrs. Not to surprised, but still disappointed. If they see this and want to send me a new battery that is up to specs I would be glad to check it out for them. But I doubt that's going to happen. I am sending a e-mail about it, but expect to get Chinese technical support, which means the run-around.
Hope this is helpful to someone out there. I'll try to respond to questions as I am able if you have any.
AW
Battery recharge
I forgot one more thing. They claim the battery will recharge to 80% in one hour. That also appears to be a lie. My battery was at 51% after recharging for exactly 1 hour, this was after my battery drain test that is attached to the above post.
Pic samples? Front/back?
Voiceferous: I did not post pics of the phone because the pictures in the first post adequately show the phone. My phone looks exactly like those pics.
leagoo lead 7
hello, just bought this phone 3 days ago, the phone can't access media in my sd card, can't move app to sd card.. i search for solution i later realize its the way google designed kitkkat.. now i have installed nextapp sdfix, and phone can now access media in my external sd card but still cant move app to sd card and my HD games can't read data and obb on external card but when i move them into internal storage, the game will play well..
please anyone know how to fix this? i love this phone. thanks
Proximity sensor seems glitchy.
I have lived with this phone for close to a month now. Overall I still like it, though I don't know that I would purchase it again if I had a "do over" opportunity. The main thing that has annoyed me is that when I am talking on the phone the screen turns on. I don't think the proximity sensor is working correctly. While I am talking on the phone (holding the phone up to my ear) the screen keeps turning on. If I remove the phone from my ear for a moment, and then put it back up to my ear the screen turns back off, but soon after (sometimes 5 seconds, sometimes more like 20 seconds, it varies) the screen turns on again.
I have been able to help the battery life through removing a few wakelocks. There was an item that was keeping it from going into deep sleep. So when I am not using it much it is great on battery power (for example, overnight it will only use 2-3%) However, once the screen is on it drops much quicker. You can see my battery graph in the attachment to get an idea. I have been getting 40-50% per day with my normal usage. Not what I was originally hoping for in battery life, but it is usable.
I was able to switch the launcher. Again I didn't hate their default launcher, but I found the audio player window and photograph window useless to me. I like having an app drawer too, which they did not have.
There is only one other annoying thing, but I am not sure if it is phone related or app related. I use Yahoo mail. Mainly because I have used that account for 18 years. My yahoo mail app doesn't seem to pick up new mail notifications with this phone as well as my last phone. I only use data over Wi-Fi, but I am definitely in range of connected Wi-Fi networks when I have missed notifications. Wi-Fi optimization is on in Advanced Wi-Fi settings, I don't know if that could be effecting it? I don't know exactly what that setting does other than what it says about minimizing battery usage.
Again, I hope this info is helpful to someone.

I believe you should get the ROM from them to flash your phone, but you need to do it with much experience. :good:

Sorry, but IMHO a Custom ROM is one build by xda developers or someone else from public hardware source-code and not connected to hardware sellers. So this is not what I have asked for...

I've had issues with the audio too. The loudspeaker tends to buzz at high volume, and the microphone makes me sound like I'm talking into a tin can.

Meizu Note1 -- Initial thoughts -1st Pass Review

Hi All,
As a moderator for the Samsung devices, I have pretty much owned every device Samsung has made ...... So, I decided to venture out into some of the less known Phones from China/Far-East.
This one I purchased is The Meizu M1 Note I decided on this phone because of the price point and specs ...... Hey Octo Core, 403 ppi 13mb camera 32 gig internal memory
All for 205 bucks ....... not bad I figured I ll roll the dice ... After all it really is just a back up phone and a toy to learn more about ...... Glad I did.....
1st I paid the extra 27 bucks for fast ship Through DHL ..... I got the phone off of AliExpress.com (this is a subsidiary of Alibaba website) China's Amazon equivalent. There are many other decent sites to buy from do your research before buying ......... some sites are not so good. One way of discerning a reputable site is to make sure it is PayPal confirmed..... do your research. Anyway, after ordering I got a confirmation pretty quick... 6 days later the device was in my hands........ Cool !
A MUST HAVE BOOKMARK ...... http://www.trackingmore.com/ This site has all the major shipping services in one place. Makes it easy to track say "ChinaPost" or DHL or whatever......... Much easier on you ...... this allows to track the front end of the shipping better and gives you a better understanding why things take a bit of time to get out of China ...usually China then to Hong Kong through customs and then to USA.
As for the device...
Getting around on the phone when you 1st turn it on is a bit confusing......... Uhhh Most of the Icons are in Chinese, but after looking at it is easy to figure out how to configure ...... It runs Android 4.4.4 with Meizu's Flyme Shell ...... No worries what you really just need to do is to register on flyme I connected to Wifi then (THIS IS IMPORTANT) register with a Name, Like "Oka's-phone" do not use the phone number to register it will not recognize the Out of China number ... said it would I could not get it to work that way. Upon further investigation I discovered, there are 3 types of Roms it is running All the same ending with a letter . Either "U", "C" , OR "A" A.... is the international generic Rom. But, no biggie really they all work the same. Once you register with Flyme, you just go in and "Open System Privileges" and Voila' you are rooted.
Once you have done that you go to their App store (called App Center in English ) There you search for Google installer, install that 1st then each of the Google apps separately. Once you have the Play store installed you now can download everything you need/want.
Now, one of the Downsides of using a Chinese phone here, for some reason Not all my paid apps would recognize on this , so They would not load from my Google backup.... ..... My guess the reason for this is some licensing conflict with the Play store and Flyme .... but it is what it is. ~~ Update All but 3 of my apps did eventually update to the paid version-
Performance
The device is pretty much performs like a Samsung S5 ........ but there are differences for one ....... you can root the phone just by Opening System privileges .... easy But...... The Boot-loader is locked...... so I do not see any Custom Roms coming soon until that is solved...... if ever.
The phone Benches on Antutu 42-43,000 much like a S5 ...... The graphics work very nicely, but I am not a gamer so.... can't comment on that.
Phone reception is excellent....... the Phone rings soft for 2 seconds then goes loud out of the box ... like to change that , haven't figured out yet, will update later on this.
Music Quality is decent considering it is a single speaker, I am going to install a sound app to improve the quality and see if that helps.
The stock software for the camera is Pretty lack luster........ so I installed FV-5 and Pro-capture........ FV-5 seemed to really improve the performance of the camera. I do not think the front-facing camera will work on Skype I tried and could not make it go ..... my guess it is not configured for that. ~~~ See Post #5 Suspect008 found the fix it is in the video configuration Thank you for posting the fix !
Video works pretty good actually ....... On the still photos, they seem only to be sharp to about 15-20 feet then they soften noticeably ... could just be me but I think the software that is controlling it is not modern enough......
The WiFi seems not to be strong as my note 3 or note 4 I need to be closer to the router seemed a little weaker ...... 15% +/- not a big deal but noticeable to me
GPS Works great ! Google maps is flawless, The Battery life is better than the S5 ...... Medium Use 17 hours and @ 56 % so that is excellent.
Bluetooth I have had no issues connected to my car, a keyboard and speakers 1st so that is good.
I tried using it with the Dual sim It works fine I used a ATT, Verizon and Tmo so it does work on both CDMA and GSM.
Those are my Initial thoughts ......... This is WAY worth the 205 bucks it cost me ..... It performs well enough that it can be you daily use device no problem .......... Not as good as a Note 4 but 1/4 the cost ......
I will update more as I discover more and provide some Chinese Translations on the device icons .....
:good::good::good: Give it 3 thumbs up for the price to performance .... Hope that helps all of you looking at this device
Extracted Ring Tones From the Meizu M1 note
Here are the ring tones in 3 zip folders 1 of 3 enjoy Check out ... call-of-love has a cat meow in it Crystal and Guitar are pretty nice
Meizu Ring tones 2 of 3
Here is the second Zip of ringtones ... check out Mario, MusicBox, Nighty-night, Progress
Meizu Ring tones 3 of 3
Here is the Third Zip of ring tones
The-kittens is kinda interesting Technology and the Waltz all are pretty cool
Skype Front Camera Works
About the front camera for skype,
I had the same issue but solved by going to skype settings and disabling the "use skype in back........" setting under video and voice calls. mine works fine. and I agree on all your points. its a really remarkable device for the price. Flyme needs some polishing. like we cant save a number to contacts from dialer and dialer has no access to contatcs. thats really painfull. but it is powerful as s5 for 1/4 cost. I play all the high end games without a sweat/ Asphalt 8 dead trigger modern combat no hassle for this device.
I have been using the phone for almost two months now and was previously using a samsung galaxy s3.
I am quite happy with the phone's performance. The screen is great. The camera is decent. The battery life is good.
I hope meizu releases the lollipop firmware soon.
Lollipop has been released it is the flyme 4.53 I think google it you will find it was easy to install
Really interesting, Thank you for this Information!
I believe the LP version released is beta.

Have had the phone for a couple of days now, and I really like the phone, but there is a few problems.
- Still some Chinese text here and there
- Unable to connect to PC. Device not recognized by two win10 computers.
- Lock screen, unable to turn of the roll of Chinese pictures.
- Play Store, unable to update or download via mobile network, only via wifi
- Clock widgets tend to not being synchronized with phone clock. They stop showing correct time
These are very unique type of Mobiles that i ever see in mobile market. Here in Pakistan Xiaomi Mobiles are coming Soon. The first look i explored on the internet was quite amazing. I am keeping its rank after i phone luxury looks and feel.I will definitely buy this phone if prices would not so high.

Hi, I can solve some problems for you.
Lock screen roll of pictures. Normally you can disable it if you put a wallpaper for lockscreen. Or to click on the small icon in the top right corner of your lockscreen.
Play Store, not able to download on mobile network. You need to disable the download limit in the settings of the "downloads" app.
Love the phone, thought the build quality was excellent BUT my daughter dropped it and the case has split. I dropped my htc one, galaxy s, nexus 4 and a whole host of other phones a 100 times and there was no problem. Really disappointed
Only other major issue is the phone gets locked out "this phone has been lost" many many times a day. Sometimes i cannot use it for hours at a time because activation does not work.

When she dropped it, it hit the top right corner. The metal body is VERY weak apparently (see bend tests), so soft it pushed in. So now the back glass panel on that corner is separated from the aluminium frame. It always felt fragile, the glass is so smooth is slides off even grippy surfaces! BUT it is meant to be a flagship top of the market phone so i did expect more. This is the problem when one of the largest smart phone producers doesn't sell in the internet exclusion zone (Australia & NZ). No repair centres, no accessories in stores probably no warranty. Long wait for new cables, cases and anything else.
I'm starting to see LOTS of software issues now too, MIUI has always been that way though. Be good when some custom roms come out. I guess you get what you pay for. It's no Galaxy s7, HTC one or LG that's forsure.
Buyers remorse right now haha...
Oh, 3 days old too... (not my daughter, the phone )
Having brands like Samsung, LG and others ask so much for their flagship phones is not an excuse, they sometimes cost 4 times less to build than they sell for.
But thinking you actually get a top of the line phone for prices like these (not talking about the prices those online import shops ask for the devices when you're not living in asia, but the actual prices Xiaomi sells the phones for) there has to be some compromise... this time it's mainly the build strength.
The moment you get this phone, GET A CASE asap! You don't want to break it when accidentally sitting on it :'(
Want a less break prone version? Get the 128 ceramic version.
Got the phone damaged? YouTube hugo barra tearing a mi5 apart, good reparability.
Love this phone! But you have to handle it like a Chinese vase!
Sent from my MI 5 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Love this phone. I was skeptical at first as their past phones were less than stellar imo but the specs at this price point was too good to pass up.
Have had it for around 2 weeks now, and though still minor quirks with software here and there, all around very happy and haven't run into any major issues.
Great battery life as well. As to be expected, the body is quite fragile but as I'm very careful with my belongings, I don't think I'll be dropping it *knock on wood*
The Mi 5 will be replacing my S7 - call me crazy, but the only downside (only taking into consideration features I use) I've found so far is that the camera is obviously worse. No biggie since I always bring my DSLR for any proper events, and this way I can save some money.
Here is my Real Live Review:
I've bought a Xiaomi Mi 5 Pro 128 GB (at tradingshenzhen.com)
I've unlocked bootloader, TWRP, rooted, and installed Mi 5 Global Developer Rom 6.5.30 (recently updatet itself to MIUI 8 6.8.11)
The Hardware looks and feels nice. Only negative point I could mention: After some days of use I recogniced a clicking sound when I softly push the center of the backside glas (ceramic).
The Software in my opinion can compete with Samsung (there I have the direct comparison) and other brands. In some Points it's better, in some points it's a little behinde the concurence.
My impressions in detail:
Positive:
+ An amazing feauture added in 6.8.11 is the "Dual Apps" function in the settings menu. If you have dual sim, thats a extreamly important feauture. Otherwhise you cannot use WhatsApp on both Numbers. Whit MIUI 8 you can. And this whitout using WhatsApp clones as WhatsAppGB (which I used bevore MIUI 8). (I don't know if other DualSim Devices have this feauture)
+ I've bought the Nillkin Backcover (black) and the Nillkin Flipcover. (Dark Grey) Both are great but the Flipcover is quite glossy, what I dont like.
+ I've bought an USB-C to USB 3 (female jack) cable to connect external storage (for TWRP-Backup etc.) and other devices. I wasn't able to save the TWRP-Backup direct on the external storage, so I made an internal backup and copied it to an external fat-harddrive. The main thing is, that I have an external backup (whitout MicroSD-Cardslot a little challange)
+ IR Sensor to controll HiFi and TV! ZaZa remote is my favourit App to use it.
Negative:
- No possibility to distinguish the SMS-Inbox of the two mobilenumbers. Sure, there is this little "1" or "2" behind the date. But what I would like to see is a "Dual App" for the Messages-App, a possibility to filter the messages by mobilenumber or two tabs on top of the Display where I can choose the two SIM-Cards. Anything like that would be verry nice!
- MIUI don't give me the possibility to add an App-Link into two different folders on the homescreen =(
- No support of ExFat formated storage via USB-C (nor NTFS or HFS+) Any tip to solve this is verry welcome!
- E-Mail App does allow me to add different arriving IMAP and outgoing SMTP server but have NO possibility to add a different login for these two servers. A verry important feauture for me. (My Samsung was able to make this difference). Any hint is verry welcome! I've tried some other E-Mail Apps but didn't find one that can handle all my needs.
- No MicroSD Cardslot. You could say it's not necessary when you have 128GB internal storage, but for example the backup-process would be easyer with it.
Fazit:
Alltogether I am happy with my new device. It is, what I was looking for. The devices helps me to disassociate Job and Personal contacts whitout a second mobile. In some Videos i've seen, that it is more or less repairable and the replacement parts are available in the "bay", an important criterion I guess.
Edited:
When I was writing text, I had this annoying red lines under words which weren’t known by the System. I wasn’t able to find a menu-point to switch them off. My search engine helped me out with this Link. You have to open an adb shell and enter „settings put secure spell_checker_enabled 0“. With „settings put secure spell_checker_enabled 1“ you can switch them back on, if needed.
short mi5 review
Really happy with mine after 3 months, had a bit of pain getting off the vendor rom and figuring out all of the battery optimizations and over zealous permissions.
Once I sorted all of that threw the google now launcher (app drawer back ,Yuss !) on it and very happy. Super snappy after my nexus 5x and the camera is great. Low light could be better but you just use the HHT low light mode and its all good. Battery life is great, I am usually at around 40% after a full day. used a nilikin case from the start and love it, the size and weight is perfect.
The rear fingerprint sensor on the nexus was way better but the mi5 but that is mostly positioning, in my opinion rear sensor wins. Great phone and very happy with it, the only issue was software niggles which are getting better and better.
Loving mine too. Really impressive phone for the price.
I have the phone with international ROM, camera is very good. But it has some bugs.. Like Bluetooth and Gmail connection which sometimes fails and always connected to Mi stuff which i dont like. Its not that fast either, im thinking to try out the nexus 5x because its in the same price region.

Thanks for your review.
What are the features of the e-mail app that make it superior to other e-mail apps such as Gmail, Cloud Magic or Blue Mail ?
Just updated to Miui V8.. I will watch out for bugs.

@onestyle, TWRP backup by OTG works fine, I use pendrive and I did not see any problems.

I've listet the eMail App as an negative point, so no superior things. The point is, that I was looking for a Mail App which chould cover my needs some years ago, and didn't found one. When I bought the Mi5 I just tried the wrong apps. BlueMail works great for my needs, thanks a lot for the hint!!! Cloud Magic I wasn't able to configure a different SMTP login (the function is existent, but it didn't accepted my server).

Nice, that its working with your config. Could you tell me/us which version of TWRC you are using? Maybe my cable is the problem, where did you got yours? Kind regards
