I think they are.

which you think is better?

I want to buy a phone, many friend say the Nokia is good, but the other say the Samsung is good , what is your opinion?
Neither, most of us on XDA like HTC devices
Indeed, both Nokia and Samsung suck pretty hard.
Samsung is laggy as ....
Just buy an HTC device, they're a bit more expensive but it's very good quality.

iPhone 5 vs Galaxy S2?

After Samsung sold 3 million S2s in just 55 days Apple should launch the iPhone 5 asap and bring parity back:
http://versusio.com/en/apple-iphone-5-32gb-vs-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-i9100
(iPhone 5 vs S2)
Do you think the iPhone 5 (and the 4s) will stop Android's triumphal march?
Imho the iPhone5-6-7-whatever will always be the best selling phone of the year, that's because of the quality of the product, the software support, the status symbol aspect of the tool and much more. Anyway i think nothing will stop android (nor slow it down, not even a bit) basically because apple has no products to offer to the mid and the low-end user, and those users happen to be the most part (and always will)...android is the absolute king of that side of the market right now.
main selling point is the status of an iphone (and the quailty of apps)
iphone will always be the best out there

Will depend on the iPhone 5 specs. It needs at least a larger screen to compete with the S2.
I have recently switched my tablet from iPad 1 to Samsung 10.1. So far I'm not impressed by Android. Quite laggy and instable compared to the iPad (that I sold).
I don't know yet if I buy a S2, or at least wait to see the iPhone 5 (when ?)
iPhone 5 is not even announced yet.
This thread could as well have subject: Unicorns vs Galaxy S2.

I like features and am a power users. But having been using Android Gingerbread and learning a lot about it in the last couple of weeks, I still think iPhone will maintain the best synergy of core features, developer support in software with it's herald hardware design and engineering.
Android is still lacking that final polish IMHO.

I can't really say for sure just because there's been nothing about the iphone 5 except it'll be released on ATT and Verizon at the same time, and if that's really true then it might overtake android for a little bit.

I doubt Google is not capable of producing polished products if they really put resources towards it.
Don't compare apples and oranges. I have no idea why dual core android phones still get compared to a closed in single core outdated pos. Oooh!!! Galaxy s3 is out!! Let's compare it to the iphone!! ****ing brilliant.

Perhaps, but I don't like iPhone
Yes the iPhone will beat it in sales. Look at us, we aren't the average consumers.
The average (American) consumer is obsessed with that little Apple logo. Do they give a damn about dual core processors and such? Nope. As long as it's Apple branded apparently it is the best because of all the advertising they do.
Heres a funny little video for you in your spare time.

The iPhone 5 will be release sometime in the fall (I've heard September-October) and the Galaxy S II was released not to long ago. However in the phone market it could be a entirely new generation of Android phones by then and due to the different companies making phones one is almost bound to beat the iPhone 5.
I also think that site is slightly biased toward iPhones...Just saying because they don't mention cons, and they use words such as "vastly better" to promote the iPhone.
the iPhone will get their usual customers more or less no matter what. A single branded phone could not beat the competition that HTC, Samsung, Lg, Motorola, and possibly a few more have built up.
Of course, you can quantify what you mean by "beat."
I believe Apple is still raking in all the money.
In market share or just that the iPhone makes more sales than any stand-a-lone Android device?
It will sell lot more, but I think that obviously sgs2 is better.
Android!

Samsung is Becoming A Monopoly When It Comes to Android Phones

2012 is shaping up to be a good year for Android smartphones, especially in terms of making the jump from dual core devices to quad core architecture. With the release of the HTC One S, the HTC One X, Samsungs Galaxy Nexus (and Note), and the soon to be released Samsung Galaxy S3, consumers will (do) have a lot of options when it comes to purchasing a high end Android device. HTC made the biggest noise with their One line this year at Mobile World Congress, and while demand for the devices is there, not only has their release gotten off to a rocky start in terms of problems, but HTC as a company is reporting all time low profits and revenues. Sony also released their new Xperia line, which are not bad devices specwise, but don't seem to be generating that much consumer buzz.. Same goes for the LG Optimus True HD, as spec-wise it's certainly not a bad phone, but unfortunately consumer interest in the device doesn't seem to be that high.
Samsung, on the other hand, is not only having record sales for the Samsung Galaxy S2, but are selling a solid amount of Notes (over 5 million) Galaxy Nexus phones, and have a very good chance of setting record numbers again when the Galaxy S3 hits the market on May 3rd in London. With HTC, Sony, and LG struggling to gain traction in the smartphone market, Samsung continues to prosper. But the question is why? Why are Samsung winning the game that everyone else seems to be losing?
Is it the hardware/design?
In terms of specs, the Galaxy S2, Galaxy Nexus, and Galaxy Note certainly aren't the only devices packing such hardware. In many ways, the newly released (in Europe anyway) HTC One S packs more raw CPU power and camera muscle than all of these devices, and its 8MP camera is one of the best we've ever seen. The HTC Sensation, which came out last year, also had some good specs as well, sporting an 8MP camera and a dual core 1.2ghz processor. The soon to be released LG Optimus True HD is also packing a 1.5ghz processor, an HD display, a gig of RAM, and an 8MP camera as well. So why is the hype for the first quad core phone, the HTC One X, not nearly as high as it is for the Galaxy S3? Why did the HTC Sensation not move 20 or 30 million units like the Galaxy S2? The newest Motorola Razr packed a 1.2 ghz processor, Super Amoled 4.3 display, and an 8MP camera as well. The point I'm trying to make/ask is why are phones with similiar specs not doing nearly as well as the Galaxy S2?
Was it a design thing? I don't think so. In all honestly, I preferred the solid feel of HTC phones over Samsungs more plasticy feel, especially when holding the Galaxy S2 in one hand and the Sensation in the other. If I had to pick an Android skin (which I don't, since I'm always rooted), I would have also picked Sense ANY DAY over Touchwiz. HTC had a lot going for it with the Sensation and Sensation XE, and LG, Sony, and Motorola all had pretty solid designs on their phones with similiar specs as well. So again....why did Samsung have success where others didn't?
Agressive + STYLISH marketing = WIN
I have a few theories. For starters, Samsung got a jump on the competition by releasing the Galaxy S2 back in February of 2011 at MWC. At the time, this was one of the only Android devices that rivaled the iPhone in power (it was actually a lot more powerful). HTC went on to release their dual core device 2 months later, but where HTC failed was in marketing their device. Samsung very aggresively marketed the Galaxy S2, and you can see from the sales numbers that the strategy more than succeeded. That's not to say that HTC didn't market their device at all, but the difference was the WAY Samsung marketed the device. I have honestly never seen an Android phone so aggresively marketed, and Samsung successfully created a STYLISH marketing campaign that you would normally only expect from Apple. The TV commercials were frequent, stylish, and aggressive, and most importantly, stuck in the minds of consumers. It was pretty hard walking around Berlin without seeing a poster of the device somewhere on every street corner, and pretty soon I saw people at the office showing it off.
There are so many ways to market a device, but when it comes to marketing to make a device stick in the minds of consumers, Apple has this down to a fine art. NOBODY markets better than Apple, and Samsung not only realized that, but successfully cloned that style. But when they did it, they tapered it to their own product and their own needs in a way that made it seem a "cool“ must have device.
Some OEM's had too many/ few devices for any to stand out
I'm really hard on HTC, and that's because I have a lot of respect for them. They have made some AMAZING Android devices, and I was the happy owner of a G1, a Nexus One, and Sensation for a long time. In all honesty, I thought that they would become THE Android manufacturer with the biggest numbers. But HTC especially made a big boo boo by overflooding the market with too many devices. There was no way for the public to simply concentrate on one phone, as devices of all names, shapes, and sizes running more or less the same or similiar hardware kept continuously hitting the market. Sure, Samsung didn't have only 1 device either, but they concentrated their efforts on the Galaxy S and the Galaxy S2 primarily, and simply forced the public to notice it. HTC's strategy looked good on paper, as they thought by releasing mass quantities of low, mid, and high end smartphones that they would have all price ranges covered for consumers. But the problem is, it's easy to remember 1 or 2 devices. It's really hard to remember 10. Sometimes, less really is more. Other OEMS like Sony and LG however, had fewer devices, but didn't have enough consumer interest generated in them to become game changing phones.
I don't quite understand why wouldn't Google make Motorola their designated device manufacturer. I mean, since Google aquired Motorola there's really nothing stopping them from creating a line of devices that would be fully supported by Google itself. Or not a line, but just two: a smartphone and a tablet, thoroughly designed, tested and promoted. Software updates would surely be available faster than they are now for third party developers.
Great opening post

maybe samsung phone is just much better than the rest of the makers on the market?
HTC sensation one ****ty as phone compared even to my galaxy s1.
In my country:
Sony: Had a good start with the Walkman phones but the first xperia phones and the vivaz had many hardware issues like the usb ports falling off and waiting 2 months to fix them.
HTC: Marketing is poor, their phones are very expensive and not found everywhere.
Motorola: Bad reputation because their first the old RAZR phones were bad and we have 2 droids avalible: Milestone and Defy.
LG: Same reasons as motorola .
Samsung: Aggressive marketing, huge number of phones, cheaper than others, found everywhere, and finally we get the good phones, not the leftover Samsung is like Nokia now.
I thought about this just today. All my devices are samsung & that was not on purpose...
Might also have something to do with the fact that Samsung has been a trusted manufacturer in the tech industry ever since I can remember.
Their aggressive advertising campaigns, especially the stabs at apple, might also have something to do with it.
Their phones IMO are very aesthetically pleasing. Everyone buys big bulky cases that cover it anyway
Also their availability in the US is insane, you can get a galaxy phone in any size and at any price range on any carrier.
Most of their devices have a gigantic development community behind them too.

I happened to answer a phone survey about 3 years ago asking me about who I think of when smart phone is mentioned. Apple was the obvious answer at that point in time, followed by motorolla. It became clear the survey was for Samsung as they started to inquire about what I knew about Samsung phones. Less than a year later the Galaxy S line came out. In 3 years if I answered the same survey Apple would be the first again but Samsung would be the second followed by HTC and Motorolla. In 3 years time it went from not even a thought in my mind to say Samsung to they would be either the first or second name to come to mind. Good marketing is good business.
I would not say a monopoly as that would mean there is no competition. Htc and Motorolla exist. HTC I feel is stuck in the mud and have not moved forward in a while including the One serries and sense 4.0. Motorolla has always come across to me as the phones apple fans point to when they say android sucks. Never picked up a Motorolla phone I was impressed with (this is just my opinion). Sony and LG are real marginal in the US, I can not speak to elsewhere
It seems that Samsung is taking over the high-end android market with their Galaxy S phones, HTC is trying to move into that with the One phones but IMO samsung phones are still better
Samsung is a BIG company who is researching almost everything... They have money, people, knowledge and BRAND!!! Where was htc five years ago?...I remember that several phones which i bought was samsung because of their design from d500, d600, d900, u600 and that old phones, marketing and good memories told me that i need to buy sammy again. I think the one x's design and slcd2 is more than enough to make up for its poorer performance than gs3(if there's any) sense is also very beautiful imo.
What htc needs now is build up the one brand. Samsung design phones that are too similar to iphone. Makes me feel cheap using it

Well you got some point there, but at the and specs are the engine for us to buy. I can admit that design is also a key.

SGS2 has overall better benchmark results then a stock HTC sensation. But with similar ROMS, the user's experiance is hardly any difference. it's HTC design what keeps me from ever switching to Samsung.

[Q] Why no advertising about One X? did they know something was wrong?

If this is HTC's flagship device why arent there many ads? nothing on AT&T's site, Nearly noting on TV (only one i've seen is the sky diver) I just find this strange... Every other manufacturer, (in the past,HTC devices included) has flooded the TV with ads about their newest flagship devices... Makes me wonder if they know that it might not be so flagship maybe some of these bugs have been known for a while and/or arent easily addressed... Maybe they dont want everyone buying a h0x and re labeling them h4x lol... just thinking out loud.... I certainly hope i'm 100% wrong... but still... Why no advertising??? this is by far one of the prettiest phones ever made...seems like they'd flaunt that...doesnt it?
I don't even have tv and I've seen at least 3 different commercials while just at friends houses. Also I just saw a Best Buy catalog that had the ATT and Sprint version right on the front.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
Most of the advertising for new devices is actually done by the carrier themselves. If you pay attention, you will see that T-mobile is pushing the One S quite a bit but you dont really see ATT pushing the X. Thats primarily due to the conflict it would cause with the Lumia. Nokia put something like 25 million dollars to ATT to push this phone. That was to help with advertising and also to ensure that around 80% of the corporate retail employees carry the phone for 90 days. They arent going to start pushing another device like crazy. On another note, ATT has shown they have a hard time adopting android devices so that probably impacts it as well.

What location? its not even pictured on ATT wireless home page. Sprint version is a different phone. Cant really compare it. It has a removable and bigger battery and an SD card. A few people have speculated the multi tasking issues could be as a result of super poor battery performance..Changing the multi tasking to save battery. 3 differnt commercials eh? and no tv? What in the hell have i been watching (or smoking maybe )the past few weeks i wonder.. Anyone else notice a lack of ads or is it just me?
i do realize the carriers are doing the majority of the ads.. but still i cant recall any of the recent flagship phones (evo, razor, gsII, etc) having such poor ad support. i didnt realize microsft paid them so dearly.. guess that could be the reason.

Im sure microsoft is also filling the ATT coffers, but from what i understand Nokia is who is pushing the lumia like crazy. But if you pay close attention, ATT doesnt really push any of their android line. In recent memory, the only phone i can recall seeing them advertise was the Note, and honestly that may have been a Sammy commercial. Typically when i see an advert from ATT its the iphone.
cost money to do ads

1) AT&T received huge advertising support from MS and Nokia to promote the 900. I was surprised they launched the One X as close behind it as they did. The launch was actually pushed up a month, I'm guessing to beat the SGS3 announcement.
2) There's a shortage of 28nm wafers which is hampering the ramp up of S4 production. The One XL launch was just delayed several months in Australia because of it. If the One X is selling well based on the quantities available there'd be no need for advertising.
3) The "bugs" are minor and outside the wireless issue(s) fewer than most phone launches. Things like multitasking and locked bootloaders are 100% irrelevant to 95% of purchasers of the phone. XDA does not represent the needs or standards of the majority of the phone buying public.

Evo had even less promotion, trust me.
RAZR is pushed big time by Verizon, as they frantically want everyone to switch to LTE to ease off on the now loaded (iphone) 3g network.
GSII, Samsung IS the largest smartphone of the world, so that's that.
I also want to assure you what you are thinking might be (HTC not wanting to promote it becasue of issues) is absolutely not true. This IS HTC's flagship device. They want everyone and their mother to buy it.
ATT will not promote it as they have bigger fish to catch on the iphone/Lumia front. This is HTC's M.O., they don't do too much ads.
You should see in Canada. Rogers is pushing the HTC One X like crazy. I don't have cable but I do have Roku and the online streams are pretty busy with ads for it. Bell is doing the same thing with the One S.
They are out of stock everywhere (including online). Wouldn't be good to advertise unless you have the phone.
There are posters of the One X everywhere in Sydney and I've seen the skydiving ads a couple of times on TV too. Fking love this phone so much. Too bad I dont have money -.-
Hell the HTC Vivid had little to none when it came to advertising and IMO it was an awesome phone.. HTC One X was the logical step in the right direction for me

The guy jumps out the the plane with the HTC ONE X, seen it maybe a dozen times lots of ads.....
On American Idol here they have been pushing the one X. Now on the beats speaker ad they replaced the Vivid with the One X. They have also aired the Sky Diving ad a few times too.
I'd agree with the Lumia theory. When I worked into the corporate att store to buy my one x I was surrounded by sales associates all wearing Lumia shirts. Then when I got rung up there was a huge Lumia sign on the wall behind the register

In the past, the other carriers pushed HTC phones hard, since they didn't have the iPhone. And the strategy worked, as Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mob all built up a big and loyal Android customer base.
AT&T is advertising the One X more than any other past HTC phone that I can recall. I really can't remember any TV ads for previous AT&T HTC phones (but maybe my memory falters here), and only a few for any Android device on the carrier (I can remember ads for the crappy Backflip, and not really anything else). AT&T is still heavily into pushing the iPhone, even now that its not exclusive. When I click online to upgrade my device, I get a screen smeared with what is basically an iPhone ad, and have to click through in order to select any "other" device.
And yes, the Lumia is getting pushed pretty hard. On a side note, I don't see AT&T spending so much their own money advertising an OS that sells so poorly, with Windows phone being well into single digits for % market share in smartphones. So just guessing that all the ad dollars are all coming from MS.

The One-x on sprint (evo 4g lte) does not have a removable battery. Not sure where you read that. It does have a sd card slot but that's and I believe a slightly bigger battery but that's about it.

On American Idol here they have been pushing the one X. Now on the beats speaker ad they replaced the Vivid with the One X. They have also aired the Sky Diving ad a few times too.

I have an objective attitude towards both Samsung and iPhone , Two years ago, I switched from Samsung to iPhone, saying that Android and iPhone still have obvious differences, mainly on the program. But I'm not against people switching from Samsung to iPhone . As you like

I'm not picking an iPhone again (hopefully) however i don't see from where did you get the notion of me against you picking an iphone ? beside turning ur S8 to some ****ty looking Iphone is like you saying you are poor and can't afford an iphone which is ridiculously over priced.
This is the pinnacle of Android app development. It's absolutely useless, yet someone coded it and built it because they could.

I started out with the s3 then went to the iPhone 6 and now I'm with s8. I can live with all but I don't think I'm going back to Apple.
If you read *most* of the reviews and the description of the developer then you would know this is just a gag app designed to poke fun at the iphone x owners...
Don't take life so seriously....:silly:
