After Samsung sold 3 million S2s in just 55 days Apple should launch the iPhone 5 asap and bring parity back:
http://versusio.com/en/apple-iphone-5-32gb-vs-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-i9100
(iPhone 5 vs S2)
Do you think the iPhone 5 (and the 4s) will stop Android's triumphal march?
Imho the iPhone5-6-7-whatever will always be the best selling phone of the year, that's because of the quality of the product, the software support, the status symbol aspect of the tool and much more. Anyway i think nothing will stop android (nor slow it down, not even a bit) basically because apple has no products to offer to the mid and the low-end user, and those users happen to be the most part (and always will)...android is the absolute king of that side of the market right now.
main selling point is the status of an iphone (and the quailty of apps)
iphone will always be the best out there

Will depend on the iPhone 5 specs. It needs at least a larger screen to compete with the S2.
I have recently switched my tablet from iPad 1 to Samsung 10.1. So far I'm not impressed by Android. Quite laggy and instable compared to the iPad (that I sold).
I don't know yet if I buy a S2, or at least wait to see the iPhone 5 (when ?)
iPhone 5 is not even announced yet.

I like features and am a power users. But having been using Android Gingerbread and learning a lot about it in the last couple of weeks, I still think iPhone will maintain the best synergy of core features, developer support in software with it's herald hardware design and engineering.
Android is still lacking that final polish IMHO.

I can't really say for sure just because there's been nothing about the iphone 5 except it'll be released on ATT and Verizon at the same time, and if that's really true then it might overtake android for a little bit.

I doubt Google is not capable of producing polished products if they really put resources towards it.
Don't compare apples and oranges. I have no idea why dual core android phones still get compared to a closed in single core outdated pos. Oooh!!! Galaxy s3 is out!! Let's compare it to the iphone!! ****ing brilliant.

Perhaps, but I don't like iPhone
Yes the iPhone will beat it in sales. Look at us, we aren't the average consumers.
The average (American) consumer is obsessed with that little Apple logo. Do they give a damn about dual core processors and such? Nope. As long as it's Apple branded apparently it is the best because of all the advertising they do.
Heres a funny little video for you in your spare time.

The iPhone 5 will be release sometime in the fall (I've heard September-October) and the Galaxy S II was released not to long ago. However in the phone market it could be a entirely new generation of Android phones by then and due to the different companies making phones one is almost bound to beat the iPhone 5.
I also think that site is slightly biased toward iPhones...Just saying because they don't mention cons, and they use words such as "vastly better" to promote the iPhone.
the iPhone will get their usual customers more or less no matter what. A single branded phone could not beat the competition that HTC, Samsung, Lg, Motorola, and possibly a few more have built up.
Of course, you can quantify what you mean by "beat."
I believe Apple is still raking in all the money.
In market share or just that the iPhone makes more sales than any stand-a-lone Android device?
It will sell lot more, but I think that obviously sgs2 is better.

Just caught this on Samfirmware...

The link is a little buggy, so here's the meat...
"Korean manufacturer Samsung may be mulling plans to slash its product cycles and release a new top-end mobile phone to take on the Apple iPhone 5 which is now expected to come in September.
Apple rivals might have been taken by surprise by the company's decision to diverge from its regular annual product refresh and given that by the time the iPhone 5 is release, their own flagship handsets will be at least six months old, it doesn't come as a surprise that some may be considering new iPhone 5 rivals.
Popherald claims that sources located in Asia have confirmed that Samsung will have a new Android-powered phone - launched in August or September - that will be pitted against the iPhone 5, one that apparently won't carry the Galaxy branding but which will come with better specs.
Expect a 1.4GHz dual core Samsung Exynos SoC (up from 1.2GHz), 1GB RAM and Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread with Samsung's own TouchWiz user interface.
The latest Android build will bring Google Talk with support for video calls as well. The current Samsung Galaxy SII is already a successful product and packs the very best features you'd expect from a high end smartphone including NFC, an ultra slim chassis and a large 4.3-inch WVGA touchscreen."

Would anyone who had planned on buying the SGS II actually buy it now, knowing that it will be 'obsolete'(not really though, quite a nice piece of hardware) in six months?
Meh, I maybe I'll hold off on the SGSII for a while to see what the next iPhone Killer looks like...
No matter what you get it's obsolete in minutes.

Anything to contribute?
I read from other sources saying all they are doing is changing the clock speed to 1.4 on existing sgs2's. This will not be sold as the sgs3 or under any other name.

As Mike said, everything you get will be obsolete in about 6-9 months. Waiting on the SGS III will result in it being obsolete by the SGS IV in about that same span. If you are willing to travel outside of what your carrier offers on it's phone product line, then that number is even lower as the GSM world pops out the latest greatest phone every 3 months or so.
I have an SGS II now and with the specs on the proposed SGS III it seems like the phone will be the exact same and DEV work won't have to really pick between the two.

I guess I'm sort of surprised that they would invest so much into the current model to drop it and jump to the next one. I guess they are really targeting Apple and making every effort to match or exceed specs instead of playing catch up with the numbers game.

Unfortunately for android we have always been "chasing" apple, at least in the majority of the public eye.
With this release timed around the I5 release we may now have a phone that is not only better after a certain time, but better at the same time. That puts us (i.e. Android/Google/Samsung) in a very good position.

Meh. It's more complicated than that. Samsung actually supplies a lot of iPhone components and Apple is a pretty big customer.
Vendetta might be a contributor, but it's at least as much about competition. Samsung is gunning hard for Apple's market position, even more so with tablets like the Galaxy 10.1. One of the biggest advantages Samsung has had so far is hardware spec dominance. They're just ensuring they keep that position.
SGS 2 wont be obsolete for a year atleast cuz there arent really any apps/games that can use it to its full potential.. personally only bad thing i feel is display resolution but its not really a biggie since the SAP is gorg

Can't resist bashing Apple. Here is my take on Apple announcements for iPhone on wwdc
Apple Maps: We had this for long time
Facetime over cellular: Skype over Android works very well and its available on all platforms
Facebook Integration: We have been able to upload pictures directly to facebook for a long time
Siri: Apple wins here. Lets see what S-Voice can do. I say Android is year or two away
Overall Android wins hands down. I have a SGS2 and Iphone4 on separate lines and SGS2 is far ahead on Apple.

I was actually impressed with the keynote. The new Macbook Pro is actually fairly priced; it has an INCREDIBLE display resolution and comes with a SSD.
For iOS6, and every other OS they've pushed out, their point is not to innovate. Apple doesn't do things first, they do them correctly. I guarantee every one of those features will be smooth as ****, polished to the utmost refinement. From someone who had no idea what they'd add in iOS6 (and its supposed to be around 200 features; big and small of course) I was impressed with what they came up with.
I think the best way to put it is
Biggest thing to remember, These people that go crazy for these features that are already in Android aren't looking for a phone that does those things. They are looking for their iPhone to do those things.

something that i do like about the iphone is constant updates for the phones. Getting an official ICS for the skyrocket has been long overdue. I just got a pre-order e-mail for the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III which I will not get since the skyrocket seems just as powerful (the AT&T version is a dual core 1.5ghz and not quad core). Plus it pisses me off that Samsung and AT&T is practically forcing normal users to turn to rooting their phone just to get a decent and updated rom on their phone.

You know why they don't care though? Because they can leave their bluetooth and wifi on 24/7 and still **** on our battery life.
The only hing apple is good at, is being able to make morons pay for the same phone over and over. They hardley touch the os itself. Instead they add apps and weird addons and change the version number. Honestly apple just go to show that people like to be told what to do and how to do it. I like choice and variety. All that fancy polishing g you all talk about is why the battery sucks and always will. Apple pushed for html5, yet they are near the bottom of the list for comparability. Apple sues any company that is about to come out with a phone that wipe its ass with an iPhone. Just shows their scared and don't want people jumping ship before the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s come out. LTE on an iPhone, lololololol. You will have to have it plugged in to use LTE.

I have the Vibrant, I'm using an ICS ROM. 4.0.4.
I don't use my phone for a lot of web browsing, more or less social things and games. I'm sort of sore on flashing new ROM's though I LOVE exploring them all!
For people already using a Galaxy, what would be your pro's and con's?
I've looked into the phone and it sounds amazing, dual-core snapdragon, stock 4.0.4, it looks to be as big as the Galaxy s II and a nice AMOLED screen.
Has anyone used one of these guys yet? How do you like it? Does it live up to your expectations?
There are some fantastic new features. A colleague tried one for an hour last weekend and his questions to me was 'why can't we have these at work' we currently have S2's

I really like the whole "Sharing" thing between Galaxy III's.
Did your work pay for the S2's? That's very nice of them!
I wasn't impressed enough (compared to my Vibrant.) to spend the extra money upgrading an S2, but the SIII really has my attention.
I'm contemplating it very hard. Through my carrier I think it's going to be $280 before extra fee's though..that's pricey especially since the first I paid $250 and received a $50 MIR. :/
Coming from a Vibrant..definitely should upgrade. If you had an S2 or something comparable, it wouldn't be worth it unless you could get a really good deal.
Thank you lowandbehold. I feel a tad better about my wants. I was hoping it wasn't just because it was new. The hardware upgrades them self already make my giddy/
Although the Galaxy III is a killer in terms of performance and software features, which make it highly desirable especially for people who have an old smartphone, you should also take the upcoming iPhone 5 into consideration.
Another phone worth checking out is the HTC one X. Although not superior in performance compared to the GIII, it has a lot of notable features and shoots photo's fast due to it's fast camera processor.

Thank you for your suggestion, however I am not an iPhone person and I don't believe T-Mobile will be getting the iPhone5. Or at least there's no official word on it. Just hopeful reports of people stating that 'It could happen! Maybe..'
I just love the android's platform and it's lack of boundaries. I've also heard rumor of some Android's having a "Flash Counter" that count the number of times you've actually flashed the phone, and because of it the warranty won't be active. (Like the Galaxy Note supposedly has one.) I could also be wrong since I haven't looked into this. On that note, I don't believe they'll be implementing this feature into the SnapDragon CPU's. However correct me if I'm wrong! I'm very much a phone newbie.
My friend owns a One X while another has the new Razr Maxx.
Since they aren't brand new I'm curious as to switching to those guys..it would be cheaper however have the same quality as the S3?
I've been with Samsung for 8 years now and they haven't let me down.
So loyalty stays with Samsung for their phones.

about a week ago, my next phone was indeterminate between the HTC1, SGS4, and the Motorola X-Phone.
initially, the SGS4 was rumoured to have amazing specs, but recent rumours have Samsung nerfing more and more of these "killer specs" due to production issues(though the 8-core exynos they were originally supposed to be going with was just two switch-between quad cores of different speeds, meaning the qualcomm which is now rumoured isn't actually a nerf after all) .
Add the fact that it will almost certainly be sporting the cheap poly-carbonate shell, the S4 is not a contender for me anymore.
the HTC1's solid build will help it a lot against the SGS4 threat since many buyers base their decision more on how a phone feels than what it contains (just look at all the people buying iPhones)
biggest thing against it will probably be battery life. If HTC didn't pick up their game in this regard, then the rumoured 3000Mah X-phone may take the market.
I wish there was something more substantial than rumours to go by.

I don't expect there to be a huge overall jump in anything - The S3 was an underwhelming update to the S2 - same damn camera, pentile screen etc.
But rest assured that Samsung will have some sort of ace up it's sleeve and/or marketing gimmicky crap (Pop up play, Nature UX ,S-voice, Smart Stay, S-note, S-tits) that will devour the entire market share of the segment.
Samsung does do the basics well though - it will have microSD and I expect the battery of the S4 to be excellent and close to 3000mAh - but they have very Apple like followers now. If they include some aluminum on their chassis and call it hyperaluminum and it'd sell 10 million on that alone.
I mean seriously - they called the glossy plastic back on the S3 'hyperglaze'.

The only feature I thought that was quite clever on the s3 was the 'smart stay' thing... Pop up play I NEVER used... ever! S Voice was a pile of crap, most of the features were naff
And lets be honest... Samsung has made it's fortune by essentially ripping off apple with its design, people will jump on me for saying that but it's true. A physical home key with the other android keys that fade into the background so it looks like they're not there, similar shapes, a UI that looks extremely similar. I honestly think that samsung was there for the taking at the time of the S3 - it was an underwhelming device. HTC were in with a huge chance but - like the Sensation before it - the One X was plagued with teething problems which put its performance below the GS3 as the time.
It always takes a while and 2-3 updates for HTC devices to realize their potential - remember HTC Sensation and the memory issues with the browser and the launcher? and the GPU lag? The Galaxy S2 had none of that and went on to become the people's champion. HOWEVER - after a few painful months and great dev work the issues were fixed and the Sensation went on to become even better than the S2 IMO - but it was too late.
In the case of the One X, HTC already had the best design and screen on the market but it was plagued with software/driver issues. Honestly, the One X before and after the Jellybean update were too completely different devices - gone was the overheating, the stuttery UI, the poor battery - it had become an amazing phone. But again, most people were put off by the initial problems and just went for the S3 instead.
I feel that HTC really need a solid, issue free launch for the One for it to be a success because, objectively, i don't see anything coming close to the One this year. HTC's really changed the game with the speakers and camera - and no-one saw it coming. All the One now needs is a well executed launch with no major issues and I feel the One can be THE top selling phone of the year.
Now, obviously with any new device there will be bugs in the beginning which is fine as long as they're minor and quickly addressed. Hopefully HTC avoids these issues and really takes the game to Samsung this year.
I applaud HTC for having the guts to do something different.... Samsung will just 'increase' the spec a bit over the S3 and for most people they'll be like 'OMG THIS IS THE BEST PHONE EVER' and if it does what you want then fair enough.
I really really hate how the galaxy range feels so cheap in the hand, when your spending that much money you want a premium product and I think that's why people love Apple so much... It may be expensive but you normally feel like it's worth the cost.
If you ask within the XDA community - whether anyone would cancel their orders for HTC One, answer is NO. Whoever decided to get HTC One is getting it. It doesn't really matter what Samsung shows for GS4, people will get the HTC One who already pre-ordered.
The same question if you ask outside the XDA community, then it's something totally different. As always, only thing which will push the device to consumers is marketing, promotion and brand awareness. HTC has to match Samsung's efforts in marketing. Else, many people might actually cancel the order.
Android Central is hosting "World's First Samsung Galaxy S4 Contest". Really!! And there are now close to 4000 comments already. HTC needs something to combat this Samsung marketing juggernaut.
I think HTC's deal with AOL might help them. All AOL sites are part of blinkfeed.
http://blog.aol.com/2013/02/19/aol-debuts-on-the-brand-new-htc-one/
They will however need much more than that. Expect a good review from Engadget and Techcrunch for HTC One.

I agree with the statement above. ^^^^^ Thing is, Samsung has made a name for itself just like Apple, The iPhone isn't that great, but people worship apple like they are perfect. Coming from an iOS community i've seen the most ridiculous BS ever. Following people on twitter waiting over night for the next iPhone, iPad, crappy Macbooks, when none of them are ever that great. Just over expensive and too simple. They practically worship apple and its disgusting. I can understand people going for the "just works" slogan because, well, they "just work", great. But people who are on android want way more than that. Which is why i find Android Superior and am going from a iPhone 4 to an HTC One. Even though Android IS better in pretty much every aspect, people go to apple. They were the first, so they had a head start and made a name for themselves. (Also I think android before 4.0 was bad anyways, I didn't like it and i haven't seen so many people switch until 4.0 was out) So it will most likely be that Apple will always be ahead in smartphone sales. Samsung also was an early competitor, and was able to get there name out there since they had so much money to advertise. So everyone I know is either ALL APPLE, or they will only go for Samsung, thinking everything else is inferior. Not saying Samsung is terrible, but they got ahead while I think there smartphones aren't superior. This is why I think Samsung will hurt HTC when it comes too sales. Samsung is big, HTC isn't.
Can wait to see the look on Ur faces wen Sammy slams the 1 to an early grave....y the heck do u think they will stick to plastic....HTC using all aluminum body sure means the competition will follow suit. And u know the will fill it up with lots of extra features....if there's one thing Sammy its better @, then its marketing. Remember how we keep blasting the iphone, yet it sells so well. HTC 1 was made to get the company back on its feet financially. To these OEM its not about just making a good phone, its all about selling most. And as it stands Sammy has the upper hand, and I don't think they are ready to give up....so prepare to be blown away....LIKE IT OR NOT

Actually, if you care about HTC as a company then you should care about the announcement - it would be an understatement to say that this is the most crucial battle yet for HTC - and they've done their part by making an excellent product. So let's see.

Problem is that the S4 was surely in production before they knew HTC would be using aluminum. And believe me, I already believe that Samsung will out do the HTC One by a long shot because Samsung has always done better with marketing there phones. Im sure they will release a new version of TouchWiz with lots of new features, but the Ones features are also great. Sense 5 looks mint, compared to TouchWiz and unless Samsung follows in that more minimalist design I'll still find TouchWiz ugly. I would agree its not about maknig the better phone is its about profits. Just like every other company in the world. Samsung will always have the upper hand whether or not they are crappy or great. Just like we see with pretty much every single Apple product. They made a name for themselves, So no matter what they put out, the iSheep WILL continue to buy there overpriced, crappy products. Still, Samsung > Apple any day. Samsungs products aren't crappy but i've never been impressed by a single thing Samsung has ever done.

When looking at the latest releases from HTC and Samsung this past month, it made me realize that these companies have made it really difficult for Apple to keep up their dominance in the coming years. Many people were blown away, myself included, by the iPhone 4. Fast reliable OS, beautiful screen, sexy industrial design. They have been able to milk that release for about 3 years now, and with the iPhone 5 it is starting to show its age.
But with the phones that have just been announced for 2013, I don't think Apple will ever be able to "wow" anyone with a future iPhone like they did with the iPhone 4. HTC and Samsung already released full HD displays so Apple can't make that revolutionary. NFC and wireless charging have already been introduced by a handful of phones. And Samsung even released a bluetooth game controller for their devices, something that Apple has neglected to do for years with their huge selection of games. And Google Now is much cleaner than Siri imo.

Was just using a buddies 4s the other day and can't believe how many people fell for that device. I'd take my mytouch 4G over that any day if the week.
Marketing/advertising made apple and the simpletons.

So is it possible for Apple to bring back the iPhone 4 magic??

You should probably delete that last line. But I agree iPhone was very cool back in the day. It was the ONLY smartphone... really. But now, even no-name chinese manufacturers such as Oppo & ZTE releasing phones that put the iPhone 5 to shame. IMHO, the only way Apple can survive now is to copy Android.. make phones bigger.. reduce the size of the icons, they make the phone look like a TOY! Also add some widgets to make the phone look less 'just full of icons'. If they do that I think they could definitely be back in the game.
Apple is great, I like the icons. But I agree with you, they should add some widgets
Apple products is totally crap compared to the devices within the same price range and even cheaper. It's good that people are starting to realize that. This company is a good example of mass brainwashing.

I don't think it's brainwashing. It has more to do with the what they were able to make.. which was a phone that was like no other phone before it. And also it didn't hurt that it had the logo of an American company.
Apple is currently falling behind with their software. It is very stable and great but I don't think Apple is going to make an extreme change to it. Older people love the fact that it is so easy to use while android peps love the customization.

If Android would use the same version for years and never implement new features they also would be very stable. This said, I think since JB came out Android made a giant leap in stability. The problem is not with android, it's with Samsung bloatwares. I do loves some of their features but they are rushing to release to quickly.

you are right dude, now apple's stock price begin to drop to around 400$ (correct me if I am wrong) they have lost their magic when job is gone.
Now It's time for apple to catch android if they don't want to be like nokia or blackberry. but it's apple who want a big profit with minimal effort.
look at blackberry they wait for lost almost all of their market before make big innovation in z10, I think apple better realize they have lost and try to catch android this time.
Big android fan but I actually bought Iphone 5 too, why you may ask because of the build quality, it looked and felt quality. Android had nothing like it as far as build quality was concerned but that has changed this year with htc one. What a phone best looking device out there and I think that's not going to change this year.
I really hope htc does well and encourage others like samsung lg to move away from cheap looking plastic.

Most of your comments seem to emphasised on aluminium vs plastic. I just hope you will be able to live with all the scratches (sooner or later) on aluminium unibody and won't put a case (plastic) on HTC one.

Regarding scratches on HTC One , this is black HTC One as you can see, silver should be EVEN better since it doesn't have any color on it. I think HTC One will do just fine regarding scratches.
I would have to agree Apple got far ahead due to their strong marketing strategies.
But you have to say, that they were the one's who revolutionized the cell phone. Android came in much later. But if you say now, yes, Apple has lost its shine a little. But everywhere i go i still see people crazy about that thing. The brand name still packs a punch.
Me being an Android fan, would love to see Android rule. But give credit where its due.

Android is slowly getting there, not sure if it's a blessing though. Looking at the amount of new members on XDA lately. A bunch of them don't even know how to put a widget on their screen(which tells me they come from Apple). I think Apple is good for some people. My 80 years old mom needs a non-customizable phone otherwise she'll change everything and won't remember where the dialer is.

Agree. Some people still prefer to keep things simple. I cant imagine my mom customizing Android phones. She will lose track of what to do after a day or two.
But that being said, Android is getting there. But lets face it, competition is the key. I don't want Android to become like Windows of the mobile world. Competition is very important.

Absolutely! For some reasons companies are turning into evil empire when they become too big. We need Apple to keep putting pressure on Android. Fortunately, 90% of the population is dum(phone wise), so Apple will still be there for a while.
Haha... yeah they would. I just hate the people who think owning an iPhone makes them higher beings than others! And believe me, there are many of them. I just don't get down to the details, coz i just don't care to explain!
That is just plain damn silly.
