Hey!
I could need some help to narrow down the possible error sources and thus conclude if I should try to repair my phone or not.
Ath the end of the post is short video of the actual state (YouTube-Link).
Some quick details:
- no submersion in water
- no visible fall damage (always was in a Spigen Tough Armor Case, but I dropped it from time to time)
- no cracks on the screen itself, always used a screenprotector
- the problem developed gradually over the last 2 weeks: Only the lower half of the phone was affected, horizontal lines of different brightness appeared (also some flickering). This would disappear from time to time, sometimes linked to the manually changing of the screenbrightness
- now the lower half is completly black, but still responsive. Even that disappeared 2-3 times, but now it seems to be stuck in that mode
- additonally if you're out of the lockscreen the upper half goes black as well
- complete display is responsive
- USB-Debugging should be enabled
Things I've tried and didn't help: 1. Wiping of the Cache 2. Factory Reset 3. Safe Mode 4. Some suggested options mentioned in articles
What I am trying to figure out: Software or Hardware problem (Right now it seems like it must be Hardware) and which Hardware is affected and needs to be replaced.
Any help would be appreciated, but I know that no one has psychic abilities to look at/in my phone from a distance. So thanks anyway!
The video:
The screenprotector is adjusted (cut) to fit the frontcamera. No damage concerning the phone

p.s. I am using a Galaxy S5 now, at least that phone is still working

This is my second one not purchased in the same store. I see the same issue that I had with the prior. Funny a different state and different CVS upscale drug store and it still has the same issue. I bet all of them this way and most buyers are unaware of this issue with the panel. Either Anti-Glare film wasn't applied correctly or the the panel is not assembled correctly. No QCI, if there were this wouldn't have pass inspection and be rejected.
Down below you can see what's going on. If you do firmware update or factory reset i you can see how bad it is.

I've posted the above at many forums so far this reply was the best answer.
I have noticed that text cutoff on the left edge of mine, too (landscape with "Craig" logo on top). Looks either like a classic video adjustment issue (hsync on LCD possible?), or imprecise placement of the LCD panel within the bezel, which I suspect is more likely considering the price point. Simple fix: rotate 180 degrees for apps where it matters like a terminal session
But then the placement of the top layer on the screen (protector? anti-glare? digitizer?) might be more noticeable as there is a gap of about that same 1mm or so on that side. Hmm... maybe that is also imprecise screen placement issue - everything shifted that way? Oh well, for <$100 we may have to overlook the "edge cases"

Simple test to see if you run CM3.apk
Yesterday morning my phone was working great, then all of a sudden about an hour later I noticed that the touch was behaving weird, I was having a hard time unlocking my screen and also from time to time it's doing stuff by itself. So I downloaded a "touch screen tester" and swiped my fingers all over the screen and noticed that there are two horizontal "rows", one on the top and one on the bottom of the screen with a height of about 1 cm which doesn't work properly, when I swipe my fingers across it only registers small dots all over it. Also, sometimes in this touch screen tester there's a thin horizontal line which appears on top of the screen, which means the screen is randomly "fills dots" by itself.
I checked the LID and one looks pink to me, the other white. I haven't submerged the phone into any form of liquid, so I'm having a hard time believing this error is caused by water. Should I send the phone on warranty or should I try something first? I've heard that warranty doesn't cover cases where the LIDs are pink...

I have same issue with my Z3 dual. 1 line on center of the screen doesn't work and touch screen sometimes work weird - spontaneous touches by itself. I send phone on warranty and for now i have info that they repairing it. I attached my screen test.
UPDATE:
I sent the phone on warranty to Sony. They sent me a new phone, I got it yesterday. Super happy with their support, was without my phone for only 4 days.
I bought Z3 LTE from Sony Store last week but I returned it because it had edge light bleed problem on the left side and I returned it. I ordered a second unit few days ago and I received it and seems it has the same thin light edge bleed as pictured below.

Note this is only visible at an extreme angle and is not visible straight on or looking at the phone at a small angle. Also it's only visible on non-black colored background
Is that normal for and LCD screen? should I return it, or don't worry about it?
Thanks!
your chances of finding a perfect panel is basically "zero." if there arent any dead pixels and the backlight bleeding doest affect your viewing experiences then just stick with it. the chances of you getting a more defected one is higher.
you should also go into dial pad and test it with the service menu by inputting
*#*#service#*#*
I believe that is normal.

I ran a complete diagnostics when I received the phone. Luckily everything passed and got zero sight of dead pixels, stuck pixels or clouding! Its not the first time I have seen this, I had similar problem with my xperia S, Z and Z1. So its seems like its a normal thing
I'll take your advice and stick with it. :good:
I got my S10e last month and noticed a weird problem/issue with it. The screen has ghost letters all over the screen that are only visible on a grayish screen. I use black wallpapers and keep brightness on the lower side so didn't notice it earlier. See pics to understand what I'm talking about. I used to have a S9+ before and didn't have this problem. I was wondering if this is something only on my device and I should get it replaced or is it on all/most devices out there. If you've a S10e or other variants can you please confirm if you have this issue.
Thanks
PS sorry for the weird link (remove spaces). xda cdn is not working and being a new user I can't add links

not common issue as far as I know - sounds like an issue with your device - try to get it replaced due to defect
Try to invert colors maybe to see if it fixes, probly wont but all I can think of
Too soon to have screen burn issue. I've note 3 and s6 over 4 years but still didn't have this issue.

This is not even burn in by my use. I never had any wallpaper or anything with those letters, seems like an issue/burn-in from the factory. Will need to get it replaced
Get it repaired under warranty. If you're in the USA, the "uBreakiFix" stores are Samsung authorized repairers.
Or just get a new unit since it's so new.
Seems its new unit then better send for replacement.
Hello, I am new here and am absolutely not a developer.
My company has bought a year ago 1K tablets from a vendor in SZ.
The tablets have installed a developed application by a third party for elderly which requires that the tablet screen will be ON 24/7 and constantly on a charger. The application manages to adjust the screen brightness during the evening/night.
Now after 15 months we experience that tablets are coming back with a strange screen behavior.
Screen is ON constantly
Pressing shortly twice the ON/OFF button the screen goes OFF and returns ON with horizontal lines but the touch functionality in tact.
Turning OFF the screen (press ON/OFF button shortly once) for 20 seconds and then turn ON the screen again, these lines are gone.
When you repeat the first step turning OFF and ON the screen, the vertical (blurred) lines returning.
I have tried many things.
Flashing the firmware using flashtool in different settings (we have the firmware).
The factory can reproduce the issue, but is reluctant to find a proper solution.
I would like to be in touch with an engineer / developer who would be able to helps us out.
We can sent some tablets for examination or just the firmware files.
I am reaching out on this forum hoping on some positive response.
Thank you for reading,
Best Regards,
Jan
