Hi, I recently tried flashing the OnePlus Open Beta 3 from the official website. But I did the mistake of not backing my data. The phone went into bootloop (https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...eason-adb-pull-mnt-vender-op2-rbr_log.1388441).
Then as suggested in the comments, it asked to do `fastboot -w`, as it said it would just change the slot. But instead, it formatted `userdata` and now I have lost all my internal storage content. (But it did fix the bootloop).
Is there any way now to restore any part of that data?
I've used an app called diskdigger in the past that worked well to recover deleted pics. It's available in the play store. Read the app description about using it with root vs. without. Without root, it can pretty much only scan through your cache and thumbnails. With root it can be much more through and can retrieve full size images.

I did try it, on multiple detected partitions, but all it could find was a couple of app thumbnails.

I seem to be having the same problem as this except(android.stackexchange.com/questions/61531/removed-storage-emulated-0-file-and-lost-access-to-all-files) there was never a solution. I tried remaking the folders and restarting the phone but that didn't work.
Can anybody help me out?
Soooo you wiped internal storage? Pictures are gone... Best bet is to try Disk Digger or some similar app and see if it works. Also make a backup next time before you do whatever you tried to do as to avoid this situation in the future.

I was thinking that I only wiped the symlink to the files. I will try to see if it helps. Thanks for the tip.

I was going to, except to make a nandroid backup or backup in general using custom recovery I need to go have more than half of my sdcard be free space (since it back it up to the internal sdcard) and I only had like 500-600 MB free I know you can move nandroid backups to the computer to free up space, but I do not know if I could backup straight to computer since N5 has no space.

A nandroid wouldn't have helped. It doesn't backup pictures, etc. Use drop box or something or back them up on your pc frequently.

From my understanding, a nandroid backs up everything on the selected partition. So /system would save your ROM and its settings, etc. Normally on a phone with a SD card it won't back that up, but the N5 only has internal memory. Backing up /data won't save pictures and videos you took?

nope. It just backs up the system partition; data, apps and settings; and boot, kernel

That's odd. I could have sworn after I accidentally wiped my internal storage I had my pictures back after restoring a nandroid. Still have them all.
OP, any luck with disk digger? I just deleted a folder of useless memes I made with an app and used disk digger and restored them. This is the one I used

Running it right now! It has found 6876 files and counting, and they seem to be full size! Thank you so much! That app is awesome.
And thanks guys, going to go back up my files after it's done
EDIT: Shame the file structure is not preserved

It's not possible..
You're scanning the drive for actual files on the drive that no longer exist in the filesystem. Think of the file system as a database that tells the OS where the files are. When you delete a file, it doesn't really get deleted. Just the database entry about it.
The files exist whether there is a database entry in the file system or not but if you think about it, unlike files , the folders don't really exist on the disk.. When you create a folder, it doesn't really create a folder on the disk. It just reflects the "location" in the database. Folders don't exist on the disk so they cannot be restored. Restoring the files just adds new entries to the file system. It cannot find the deleted entries and reconnect them with the actual files
Hope this clarifies what you're seeing

I have Moto G XT 1034 and I accidentally deleted my photos. I tried to find recovery options but most of the recovery options require to root the device, now if I choose to root it I will first have to unlock bootloader which will wipe all my data and I will not be able to recover the deleted files.
Moto G does not connect to PC as USB mass storage and therefore some recovery software which I tried but cannot detect my phone's drive. I tried Recuva, EaseUS mobile recovery, Glary Undelete, Dr. Fone and Photo Recovery but none of them detect MTP/PTP connection.
Any help will be much appreciated.
Thanks

The first line says "If you don't use the phone's internal SD storage - There is still a chance...."
My photos were stored as per phone's default location (Moto G again) so I am not sure what is that supposed to mean for me. If there are any chance for me can you please explain in some details ?
The more you use the phone, the more you reduce the chances of recovering the photos.
The internal storage partition (/sdcard/) is used by apps, as well as for storing downloads, music, photos and videos.
The photos can be recovered as long as they space they currently occupy has not been overwritten by new files.
about two weeks ago an app misbehaved and deleted all data on my moto g. I was very frustrated and disappointed. Only pc recovery softwares were useless because internal memory can not be mounted as mass storage in newer android versions. So i rooted my phone and tried undelete pro, hexamob recovery pro, diskdigger pro. But all these apps are bull****. None of them recovered a single kilobyte of my 12 gb memory which contained music, videos, photos, my apps and their data and my favourite ebooks. Before trying these apps i had read this article too which i found only working method http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...de-internal-memory-data-recovery-yes-t1994705
But i didn't try and tried those apps first. You should take a look. Btw i recovered from that pain of losing files and have new files now ☺

This sub-forum is for Moto G (1st Gen) only. However the information in this thread and links provided most likely still apply to your handset.
Hi everybody,
I have made a back factory setting to handle a battery issue. Thinking have realized correctly my backup, I have done this manipulation. After I have restored my backup, I have seen that all my pictures were not on my phone (or in the DCIM folder).
I have rooted my phone and tried some recovery applications (like Jihosoft, ...) without any success.
I have explored a lot of websites and seen many comments saying that this operation is not possible.
Do you think is it possible to restore my data? If yes, Do you know an application or PC's software doing this recovery for Android
6.0.1 Marshmallow?
Thank in advance.
As far as i know once you format partition everything on it is gone and you can not retrieve enything.
Backups in recovery dont backup your data such as pictures, videos, music... they only backup your apps and respective app data.

It is a long shot. As you said you already restored backup which means you already wrote data on the partition.
Those data recovery programs work 100% when you delete/format partition and you try to recover deleted files before anything is written on that formated partition. In your case even if you manage to pull something out it will probably be corrupted files.

Yes, I am agree with you. My phone is used currently and I have received some new data wrote on the "old one" in my partition. My hope to retrieve these data is low now maybe null...
This is the value of using Google+, Dropbox, Amazon Prime, etc. photo syncing, etc. At least photos can be restored. Other files ... not so much.
Not sure what kind of backup YOU did but my CWM backups grab the entire /data partition, photos included.

If I could at least restore photos I would be a lucky man!
I understand Google Photos for images and video. Google music streams your musics. Buuut what about users that need some "external" area that won't get deleted when flashing or wiping? My main concern is where will titanium backup files go where they can survive a wipe.
Is there a dedicated partition for storage aside from the OS?
I receive my Pixel 2 tomorrow and am curious about how I will make this change.
On my current device's MixroSD card, I've
40gb of local music (country area where streaming isn't always an option),
10gb photos and videos,
3gb of app and data backup via titanium backup.
Thanks!

You'll need to transfer that stuff off your device. There isn't a partition you can put it on that doing get wiped. It's kind of a pita. You can backup tibu to Dropbox but that doesn't work out too well either. I've found backing up apps to Google works best but that doesn't help you with the data.

Cool, thanks. I suppose I'll have to rely on a USB to go device.
User storage is still considered /sdcard in the filesystem. When you do a full wipe (i.e. bootloader unlock, leave the -w in when manually flashing the update via .bat, factory data reset, etc.), it'll get wiped. If you're concerned about losing that data when wiping partitions, such as when you flash custom roms, it won't touch your storage. You can elect to have it wiped, but you can also make sure it doesn't. Yes, when you do backups, it's a good idea to transfer them off-device, but if you're just flashing roms and such, it's not necessary.
So yes, the userdata partition and storage partitions are separate.
Edit for clarification: In TWRP, userdata is "data" and what pops up as USB Mass Storage, or what would be on your sdcard is called "Internal Storage".
Hello guys, I have a S8+ 955U version tmobile. I was on oreo beta and wanted to revert back to 7.0 latest which is G955USQS2BRB1. I odin the files but it caused me to format my internal memory. i lost all my photos of my newborn.
How can I get them back?
I've tried a few programs but I have to be rooted which I'm not.
I found a thread SAMPWNED to root device but I can't downfrade that far back.
Any help would be appreciated.
P.S. no i did not have an sd card in the phone, all files were saved on internal.
It's really difficult to recover photos from a formatted internal SD card. Best option, I think, would be try some other recovery apps, so see if they have access to your phone, though I don't think they will have that type of low-level access.
Another possibility might be to use ADB and if you can, pre-system/security startup, enable ADB within the phone, and then you might be able to do a recovery scan of the phone partitions.
There are a few (vague?) how to's on using ADB to enter the phone pre-system/security. Search 'sonnettie', the author of one method, and you will likely find other author off-shoots of the same type of method. If I don't stay current with a thing, I forget most of the details, but that was his original(?) method, which as I was told, came to be used by others to get into the phone pre-system startup/security. It might have been obviated by the Oreo update with a bug fix.
Did you have Samsung backup configured? If so it should have uploaded the photos and you would be able to restore them. If you don't make a backup your photos are already lost, you never know when your phone might die, be stolen or in this case get formatted. Google photos is a good alternative to keep your photos backing up.
Some people have incorrectly stated that it is possible to recover the photos after formatting internal storage. The data partition is encrypted by default and unless you are able to recover both, encryption key (it was most likely overwritten during first boot after factory reset) and the part of the partition containing the photos, you cannot get your photos back. Also, I have not seen any commercial data recovery software, which is capable of finding encryption keys and deciphering corrupted data partition.
Exactly, the phone is encrypted, not remotely possible to recover the photos scanning the memory

good to know.
Thanks everyone for your input. After spending countless hours trying to root phone so I could get a data recovery program on it, I gave up. Turns out I had google photos and Samsung cloud turned on and it synced all my media. I got all my media back on my phone.
Thanks guys
@OP
i want to remind you that if you are doing like updating, flashing, modifying, always make a back up thank god samsung cloud is doing that for you., but i always make a hard copy to my sd card always you newer know right. i am happy for you that you got your data back
