This is my new app for searx, the metasearch engine. It's a pretty simple app as there's not much that needs done and I'm new to app development. It's essentially webview with some extra functionality for navigation and with an easy method of switching between public searx instances (or using a custom url for your own or whatever). I also have another branch with pi-hole option as well because it's something I use.
I'm not entirely sure exactly what direction I'll go with it (whether it'll largely stay the same, I'll add more features, turn it in to a self-hosting kind of app, etc.), but it's completely functional at this point. I currently have the releases listed as beta because they're subject to major changes due to the above.
I'm open to any feedback/suggestions in the app/direction it'll go so let me know what you think!
In app ads/trackers
No. Would defeat the purpose of this whole thing
Features
Easy access to any public searx instance listed in the official instances list
Default instance is Disroot
Can change it to any other public instance by simply clicking on the link through settings within the app
Or you can enter a custom url
Basic navigation controls:
Back
Forward
Refresh
Home (Tapping on the instance title in the top left acts as the home button)
Option to open the current page in your web browser - useful for multiple tab scenarios as that functionality is not in this app (no need for the extra bloat
Option to add your pi-hole url
Long press the instance title in top left to open pi-hole page
Screenshots
Download
The latest release apk can be found at the repo below or at the link about. Pi-hole is disabled by default so if you don't have it, don't worry about it

Is this on F-droid?
No but you're welcome to add it if you want. I won't be updating this anymore either so if anyone wants to fork it and change it, that's fine by me

OK so this is a sort of experimental app that needs some testers. It's not in play yet but the apk is attached to the bottom of the OP. I'm just curious how many people would find something like this useful and wonder if I should carry on making it or just abandon it. Basically the app works as a sort of shortcut for frequently typed phrases or whatever that you may constantly type out that you may not want to. So you create a keyword and a string of text associated with that keyword. You can now cycle through keywords via the widget or the app itself and click on the keyword and have the associated text copied to clipboard for easy pasting wherever you may want
widget usage:
- Click left/right arrows to cycle database
- Click keyword/string to copy to clipboard

Would you mind explaining it a little better?

I didn't get it. What exactly does it do?

That link will give you an idea of what they are. I think what needs to happen for this to be worthwhile is a needs a custom kb to work with since you are unable to interact with these keywords in other apps(hence the clipboard). With a keyboard I could have a keyword for a really long bit of a text and I just type the keyword out and it will autoreplace with the associating string saving you time.

Basically, you create short texts that expand to the full phrase/sentence you like. The only similar app I found was https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.agileapps.autocorrecteditor&feature=search_result which has fairly negative reviews and still has 500-1000 downloads. I expect this is about the size of audience the hotstrings app would get, perhaps slightly more if it is rated more positively.
Hi I know this is old but I'm looking for something like this! I had this option on my iPhone way back when, it's the only thing I miss about it. I use the Swype keyboard so I don't know if that will conflict with your app but it's worth a shot! The link seems to be down, is there any way I could get this apk to try out?

Hi! I'm Jamie, A 13 year-old App developer. I've created a application recently that I want to share with all of you on XDA! It's called Audio Web and it's now available on the Play Store . The App allows you to visit your favourite video streaming sites and allow you to lock the phone or close the app by pressing background, Once you've done this the audio continues playing and best of all it doesn't require root! I would love it if you could check it out and send me bugs to me on this thread or via e-mail at: [email protected]
I would be very grateful, Thanks.
http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apps_by_jam.jaywa.audioweb&hl=en_GB
(Due to me not able to post links please copy and replace dash with '.' between google and com)
Known issues with Galaxy S1 - S3 series.
Powerful phone recommended with plenty of resources or else the audio will stutter in background mode (It shouldn't in lock mode unless your phone is really low spec)
By The way let me explain what the buttons do.
The Text view bar at the top is where you can type your web address.
The 'Go' button is set to load the page in the textview
The 'Set Main Page' button sets the current page you're on to the home page
The 'Background' Button Closes the app while the audio continues.
The 'Load Main' Button loads the homepage where ever you are in the app.
The ' Go Back' Button loads the previous page you visited.
The 'Mute/Un Mute' Button disables or enables the audio of the current video playing.
Hope you enjoy and please remember to contact me if there's any issues!

Hello.
About the “download manager mess up” take a look here (grossness warning!): Can't STOP a built-in manager download in an acceptable way… :-/ (v56, v57-Beta) @ Google forums
Briefing for documenting purposes: built-in download manager intercepts certain download links' files, I guess because of file extension (apk files not captured, for example). However, built-in download manager is deprived from file download cancelling ability. Had to delete all of the application data to stop the mess.

In essence, a dodgy issue. Not overly critical in most situations, of course, but certainly dodgy. Better do not tap/click on overkill sized files, or you'll regret it.
With regards to the link disambiguation popups, this is something I've wished to get a solution for some time already, to no avail. So let me explain:
There are sites on which no popups are seen. Example: this very forum. You can tap where you want or need without popups. If something's a little cramped, just a little bit of zoom is all you may ever need. I use “force enable zoom” and you should also if not, as you may guess.
There are certain sites, though, where this is stuff gets in the way. Notorious example: eBay desktop mode (I've included the desktop site redirection to make your life easier in case you are using the @#$% mobile user agent).
It is obvious that there's something in these damned sites' coding which forces Chrome to go into “link disambiguation popup” disgusting mode. So, if any of you may know some sort of way to prevent the browser going disgusting mode, God would be grateful. Maybe some sort of mod and/or app? Any feedback/contribution welcome.
Mostly wrote this because I've recently revisited the Firefox browser, and I've been on the verge of switching to it. Too bad Firefox has 0 bookmark management capabilities.
Have a good time fellows.
Cheers

Hey guys! This is Corcle, a launcher with a pointer support.
Main Idea was accessing apps as quickly as possible
I have realized I get familiar with icons of the apps and I can identify them after used them a while. That's why I crammed as many apps as possible into one screen and sorted them by most usage.
Also, I have noticed if I installed some apps lately, I wanted to use them right away. That's why I placed newly installed apps at bottom for quick access.
However this wasn't enough, opening apps where placed at corners wasn't convenient and if you start switching apps constantly then it starts becoming painful.
That's because our smartphones get bigger and bigger screens, however navigating on them with only one hand become impossible. Steve Jobs had talked about this issue too and said:
Making a phone so big you can't get your hand around it
Click to collapse
Actually he was thinking phones couldn't be bigger but as we know they been. However the issue was still there and I wanted to fix it.
So, what you can do with a pointer ?
You will only move the pointer from bottom of the screen with your one finger. Pointer will act as your finger and you will be able to reach the apps with minimum effort.
To open the app, just slide the pointer on top of it and release your finger.
Holding the pointer on the top of the app will open submenu that you can favorite, open its settings or uninstall the app.
You can start searching your apps with sliding the pointer to letters and it will automatically filter them by their first letter.
If you have more apps than one page (and we usually do), moving pointer to the left and right corners will change the page
Spoiler: Video
It's still at prototype state, so there are bugs. Actually, Corcle just released to open alpha. I will be appricated if you report the bugs you found or if you have any suggestion you can send from xxxx. For updates you can join telegram group from xxxx.
I'm happy to hear what you're thinking about the app.
Future Plans:
Applying the pointer to use it inside of the apps.
Easily accesing notifications
Widget support
xxxx
Thank you for your interest, hope you enjoy Corcle
