[APP] Hotstrings - NEEDS testers or should I continue making this? - Android Apps and Games

OK so this is a sort of experimental app that needs some testers. It's not in play yet but the apk is attached to the bottom of the OP. I'm just curious how many people would find something like this useful and wonder if I should carry on making it or just abandon it. Basically the app works as a sort of shortcut for frequently typed phrases or whatever that you may constantly type out that you may not want to. So you create a keyword and a string of text associated with that keyword. You can now cycle through keywords via the widget or the app itself and click on the keyword and have the associated text copied to clipboard for easy pasting wherever you may want
widget usage:
- Click left/right arrows to cycle database
- Click keyword/string to copy to clipboard

Would you mind explaining it a little better?

I didn't get it. What exactly does it do?

That link will give you an idea of what they are. I think what needs to happen for this to be worthwhile is a needs a custom kb to work with since you are unable to interact with these keywords in other apps(hence the clipboard). With a keyboard I could have a keyword for a really long bit of a text and I just type the keyword out and it will autoreplace with the associating string saving you time.

Basically, you create short texts that expand to the full phrase/sentence you like. The only similar app I found was https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.agileapps.autocorrecteditor&feature=search_result which has fairly negative reviews and still has 500-1000 downloads. I expect this is about the size of audience the hotstrings app would get, perhaps slightly more if it is rated more positively.

Hi I know this is old but I'm looking for something like this! I had this option on my iPhone way back when, it's the only thing I miss about it. I use the Swype keyboard so I don't know if that will conflict with your app but it's worth a shot! The link seems to be down, is there any way I could get this apk to try out?

alternative speed dial app

I've been getting more and more annoyed with the standard speed dial in wm5. You have to press on the the relatively small number to dial the contact, cause if you tap the name you go to the edit part. Besides that it just looks really dull and doesnt match any theme.
Does anyone know of an alternative app for this? Preferably something you can get or make skins for...
(I have searched google and this site for hours btw)
thanks,
Robert
not quite sure what you are refering to, do you mean you would like bigger numbers on the dial pad? if so do a search for the eten dialer.
Maybe you would prefer a photo dialer? there are plenty around.
Alternatively try searching for MS voice command it is so easy to use and that is the only way i 'dial' numbers.
No i mean the actual speed dial part. It kind of looks like this:
1. Voicemail
1233
2. John Smith
1234567890
etc.
What i find annoying is that you have to press on the speeddial number (so like 2. for john smith), instead of the name. If you tap the name it brings up the edit screen. Besides that it looks very dull (grey and white).
I see what you mean about a photo dialer, but i dont want to use up precious space on the today screen.
Therefore i was hoping there might be some other app around, preferably one you can customize with skins or something. I haven't been able to find anything so I guess there isn't?
Maybe i should try asking in the Development and Hacking forum? Maybe someone there can put something together? I cant imagine it would be too complicated? Or am i asking(expecting) too much?

You like these?
This speed dial is the one I got in my E-ten, doesn't look great, though works beatifully!
I love to use this one in the car.
Couldn't find it in the extended dir but I could extract it and make you a cab if you like it.
if you could?
this looks promising

Dialer Applications

Hey Everyone,
Just wondering what everyone is using as there Dialer??
The Stock one is quite sad considering that you have to click like a few times to call someone...
Is there a application out there that displays all your contacts and you just have to press once on the name to dial?? ( Not like MeContacts that only displays so many for speed dialing)
I was looking at Dialer one but can't seem to download it...seems discontinued or something...
Please give your preference and if you can, why you chose it.
Thank you all for your input.
Chad
check out superdial
There is 2 in the market place at the moment,
1 that is a paid version but says it's for chinese users but we can use it still and the 2nd one has bugs in it and isn't being continued?

me too looking for something like this , checked superdial, not so impressive though.
Check out Youlu. A number of Android sites have recommended it. I just installed it, and though it could use more options (such as disabling dial-sounds, and hiding of email-only contacts), it looks nice.
wow this is actually better than atakephone, i kinda regret paying for it now!
I always had hard time searching contacts to dial.
I used modified acontacts on my donuts. But im now using Dialer One.
It have call log, dialer. contacts at once. easy to use. and its Free
Try it

Going to try Youlu and Dialer one out right now and see which one I like better!
Another vote for Superdial. I've been using it for a few months now, can't live without it. It's definitely one of the best dialers out there.
My main concern is having quick and easy access to contacts without having to click through 17 menus to get to them. I simply start spelling the name of the contact and it appears, tap their name and it's calling. Takes a mere 2 seconds before I'm calling the person I want.

De-Bloat list for stock rom

I don't know if there is a thread already for this. Can anyone list the apps and bloatware that are safe to freeze using titanium backup on the stock rom...

Download Scott's clean Rom, much easier then doing it yourself. Completely stock, debloated, tweaked, and nice mods if you want them.

Thank you
Additional debloat!
A helpful tool I use to clear up space and make the system faster is an app called "DiskView", downloadable free from Play Store. It analyzes all partitions and lists directories/files and a percentage bar of how much space they're taking. With this I found a bunch of instructional how-to videos in the system/media/video/GuidedTour folder. Also, taking up some space are the hidden Voice Recognition language packs under /system/VODB. Delete all the language code folders you don't want. Also, this using like 10MB but also a privacy concern, there was a face recognition database under /system/lib. If you don't use the preloaded Swype keyboard, even after you uninstalled it, there's an extra database under /system/lib/libSwypeCore.so. Delete.
If you have a Galaxy Note, it might be worth noting that the S Note templates that you could never seem to delete can now be removed permanently. They actually use up a lot of space. First, delete the templates from your usual S Note folder on your SD card, obviously. Then navigate to /system/preload and /system/preloaddata and delete everything related to S Note in there. For me there was nothing other than S Note stuff. Should be the templates in one and a database in the other. Once you reboot, they'll never come back!
Enjoy!

Encrypter Decrypter - My second Android app

Encrypter Decrypter is my second Android app. Again, this is a simple app but does what it needs to do perfectly.
Encrypter Decrypter - My second Android app
This app can convert your text in a reasonably secure text.
Note: Saved files are saved in /sdcard/EncryptorDecryptor/Encrypted_Texts
Compatibility: Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) and above
------------------------------------------------
Features:
- Encrypt and the encrypted text is directly copied to your clipboard
- You can directly share the encrypted text too using Email, Facebook, WhatsApp, SMS, etc.
- For large text files, the files can be opened using a file manager and the encrypted text can also be saved to text files (This is the reason why the read and write permissions are required by the app)
- The new Tabbed UI (swipe-able tabs)
Please check it out. I hope you like it.

Certainly. But my primary aim as always was to learn something new. I try learning new things and implement them.
I know Java pretty well, but I'm new to Android and it's APIs. So building a strong crypto would meaning working more on the Java part, whereas I wanted to spend more time getting hold of the 'Android part' of the programming.
Usually I take up 4-5 new things to learn per day, and if possible implement them together to build a simple app. But seeing the good response my friends and family are giving me on this, I may look forward to building up a stronger crypto. Can't completely ignore building up basic algorithms!

Hey man..... I haven't tried your app yet..... Because I already use OCR instantly pro....... But the point I want to raise is that..... There are a lot of apps who can do this...... You should do something to stand out of the crowd...... Right?
So in case it is possible...... Maybe you could try something like real time selection from current screen wherever you are..... Much like CAPTURE2TXT for windows.....
Thanks very much

Totally agree, you should have something that will make your app outstand among such great apps like Tesseract, OCRopus, Conjecture, Anyline, OpenCV. :good:
By the way, how much can an OCR developer get in your country?
Thanks in advance.
