Memory Swapping on X2 ? - Huawei MediaPad X2

Hi, As I am still THE one using the X2 as daily device, I feel more and more the age of the phone, using nowadays apps, sites .... . I think RAM lack is a issue.
As I have a very big SD card, and as I did it on other devices back in a time, I thought about using SD to swap memory to increase RAM.
Any body tried that already on X2? on a EMUI4 B2xx rom ? (I use simply international B207)
I'll make some reading about what are the goods partitions/formats/apps to do that now in 2021, but if anybody tried already, Feedback and advices are welcome.
Thanks
PS: I know it's bad for the SD card lifetime ....

internal storage

why did htc only put 1 gb of internal storage into this phone. does anyone know what the reasoning was by doing this.first reports had it with 4 gb of internal storage now its 1gb. i know you can add memory via sd card but why not just make the internal memory 16/32 gb. not bashing the phone, i have mine on preorder and cant wait. this will be my first android phone, but just would have liked it to come with that much onboard.

I've been using one of these in my TMO US HD2 running Froyo NAND.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820211535
Copilot, mp4 videos, lot 'o audio files.
Not a hiccup.
Haven't run any apps from the card other than map data but I might try a couple.

How is ADATA as a card supplier? I've only ever used Kingston & SanDisk & never had any issues. I've been looking in to getting a class 10 16GB card for when tmous drops the Sensation on the 8th & newegg has this one (when it comes back in stock).

Supposedly it has 4GB but only 1GB is user accessible (1.1 from what others here have reported).
first android. start learn. 1gb is nand data partition. (4gb all nand, system, cashe, data) used for system data (contacts, sms, u.t.t.) and apps. cant used for downloads and media. not need more.
but it would be better to have 16gb internal storage cause flash storage is always faster than a sd card (at least in terms of access time)
Seriously guys....it's no problem.
I got my sensation 3 days ago, installed 35+ apps and it hasn't even made a dent in the internal memory.
It's not like the desire if people are thinking it'll come to that.
After 35+ apps, i still have 800mb left of memory. I've got big games installed.
Seems a lot automatically install onto SD card without even telling it.

They did it because it was cheaper to put a smaller amount of NRAM in the phone.

Of the 8 or so Adata cards I have purchased over the years, (With 4 kids, a wife and my toys, MP3 players phones, cards for work) I have only had to RMA 1 card, one time and they had an amazingly great support group here in the US.
Very happy with their products!
Good to hear Barff1984. sorry but i am new to android so i though 1 gb of storage was not going to be enough for apps. this will be my first android/htc phone and just want a great first experience.
As a current Desire owner, internal memory is the real killer for me. I've not been able to install an app in months as there is no room left. I'm thinking about upgrading to a Sensation mainly because of this (and it's just SO fast!). Just wish it had an amoled screen like my Desire. It looks so washed out in comparison.
it's 100x better than the desire when it comes to apps. I'm running out of things to download now (V heavy app user) and still have 70%+ space left of internal
So yea, don't worry about the internal memory....I've yet to find an owner who said they've run out of space. Unlike the desire.
It's actually quite strange moving from a desire. I used to have to delete a lot of apps, then reinstall at a later date when i wanted them. My Appbrain account was constantly used to reinstall...with the sensation though, i just installed everything...I'm going app-happy

[Q] Micro sdxc on milestone xt720 6-Mar-2012.

March-2012.
By now, we all know that its more than likely to make sdxc micro cards work on a big variety (confirmed) of smartphones.
Practically, formatting micro sdxc to fat32 does the trick;with smartphones like galaxy s2, htc sensation, tablets etc recognizing the card (and capacity as well).
The thing i still cant figure out is :
~Should our files stored inside the fat32 micro sdxc be in danger of corruption or anything similar to loosing it? Nobody said what was his/her experience after a month of use or if he/she experienced any difficulties mentioned above...
~Will motorola milestone xt720 read the formatted to fat32 micro sdxc 64gb normally? I hope someone will be aware of this not by guessing, but after trying it or having a link with the proper answer.
In conclusion, the new micro sdxc (or exfat) isnt worth our patience for more available gb per card... Unless there is some short of firmware to get started (and maybe a start for xda developers to update roms).
BTW , My motorola milestone xt720 has a custom rom cyanogen mod 7.2 (2.3.7) by kang.
i've been using my 64 GB card for well over 4 month now, and there's no sign of trouble, and i hope it stays that way
I'm using it with Link2SD
however, I've not yet tried to use it on the XT720 as a 32GB seemed more than plenty enough, due the limited amount of RAM there are not many heavy games you can run off this phone, so usage for Apps / Games are very limited
if you use it for storage, there wouldn't be any problem as SD card corruption only affects areas of the card that are frequently R/W as with any form of App2SD integration like Link2SD

Thank you for your answer, i appreciate the time you took to post that kind of comment.
BTW if you ever try it to motorola milestone xt720, let me know if it can be used 100% for micro sdxc 64gb (fat32).

Partitioning the 16gb. Is it possible to increase the 10gb available?

I don't have that many apps, games stored on my phone and would rather the extra space be allocated to media.
Would it be possible to cut 1gb off the phones 2gb storage etc?
of course this is possible with a custom rom that repartitions the device when flashing.
I'm no phone man so hopefully someone can maximise the media space for those that wish.
Must be others out there with this need
Very likely. I hit a store today to look at it and bought it like my car - against better judgement and just acting from the gut.
Just gotta love the feel of that device. I am seriously miffed that HTC is advertising a 16GB internal storage phone but leaves only about 10GB for the user (well at least its written on the box, but still).
What the heck do they use those Gigs of storage for? I can see how one or even three GB are put aside for the /data partition and maybe an recovery patition, but 6GB?
All I hope is that the One S gets enough developer love, instead of all the devs going for the higher bling of the Quad flagship.
I wonder why they didn't implement the unified storage which is supperted by ICS which makes partitioning superfluous, at least for app/media space.

When we get stock iPhone devices in our office, on a 16GB device, the available space os about 14GB, I had expected similar from HTC. But no, it is just over 9GB free on a stock device with nothing much installed.Grrr.
I know I have been complaining about the space in other forums but your compairison is off the mark.
The HTC One S has 9.8gb free for user storage, and 2gb free for apps, that's 11.8gb free.
The Iphone 4, 16gb model has 13.4gb free "out of the box".
The way Android works is different from Ios for storage. Android partions the drive for system, cache, and user. Some manufacturers choose application and user storage to be separate, depending on wether they have mtp, or usb mass storage mode. If you read up on this stuff a bit, you'll soon agree the android way is better, and unlike Ios devices once we have S-off, we can change mtd partions.
So, technically your talking 13.4gb versus 11.8, not really as big a dif as you tried to claim.

I just hope HTC was lazy and went the way they did on the first WM7 phones - an microSD card slot that contained a exchangeable Sandisk microSD, but was just hidden under a few screws.
I guess I would happily void my warranty for that. I am heavily anticipating the first "teardowns" or service / disassembly manuals for this device.
Can someone post testing the speed of the internal storage, I would appreciate the test results made with SD Tools app. ?

Sadly, I don't think that's going to happen. They did this with WP7 because Microsoft made them - they didn't want user-swappable SD cards in WP7 devices. In the One series, the memory is most probably normal NAND chips on the board deep inside the phone, to save space.
Thanks, for compare I post my tests with newest microSD adata 32GB UHS-1 tested on HTC Desire-S which I made when bought that card and installed ROM, after some use of phone the speed is decreasing.

1,5gb system
2gb data
1gb others (cache boot recovery radio vs)
Android apps and caches getting enlarged everyday and even all my apps moved to empty system/app folder and only 5 apps installed to data/app I have only 200mb free because dalvik cache, data/data folders are 1,5gb total.
I need repartition my htc one s like that:
1gb system
4gb data
1gb others untouched
8gb storage.
it is very easy on mtk devices. there must be a way via fastboot commands on qualcom devices.
here is a way for zte z7 mini via fastboot commands.

[Q] How to use extSD as main storage? P3100

Not to long ago we got a Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 for our son, model P3100. We made a big mistake by going for the 8GB version as out of the 8GB only 4GB is usable. We bought and installed 2 large games and the space is pretty much full. We thought an extSD card would solve the issue and so we got an additional 16GB card. Unfortunately Samsung consists of a bunch of morons... Kind of disappointing after being a huge fan of them.
Can anyone guide me or give advice on what can be done? I was hoping to somehow use the extSD card to store the games...
The device is not rooted.

I really do not think it is Samsung's fault. Google doesn't much care for external storage, and it shows in their newer os'es. Samsung and others have stated that it is Google's doing.

Swap External and Internal Memory
Hi everyone
I have a similar problem.
I use a P 3100 running stock firmware 4.1.2/ stock kernel/ Rooted
Need to swap External to Internal
Problems
App1 : Swap External to Internal by codlab - Has anyone tested this
App2 : GL 2 SD - It works for games, what about other apps with huge memory consumption? I use a lot of medical apps with frequent updates
Method1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2182928
Does this work for stock kernel's too using the same steps?
Please Advice
Thanks
Arun

You could try FolderMount as I suggested here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/help/adopting-internal-storage-results-t3297419
As I said I haven't tried the app on MM but I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work but YMMV.
really starting to p me off!!
what is this all about, not bein able to move apps to sd! it seems only certain and few phones allow it now rather than the developers. this is my second phone to have 6.0, the first one i returned because it was only 8 gb internal (which is really only 3,5 after system mem) and i recently have gotten into games, games that mind you can take upwards of almost three gb, i returned it for a lg phoenix 2 16gb only to find out that there is NO option to move to sd, its really a punh in the crotch to buy a phone with 16gb only to have 9 useable gb, after all the pointless crap they force us to have that cant be moved,,,"well root your phone then" everybody says, oh, well, i happen to be one of the few luckies that have alwasys purchased a phone that a rooting method has never been found, and no i refuse to spend 600 bucks on a "popular" phone,, that always has a way to be rooted just to one up my friends, and im too broke this is my fifth unrootable phone, And i cant move my apps? wtf!!!! ive never been an apple man, but this has me knocking on their door..i have researched and tried everything, watched videos and read novels of it being done, some say to format the sd as internal, i say impossible, guess what, no option for that either, only format, no internal. how in the F*** do move my apps, or even better how the crap do i downgrade back to lollipop??????????????????????????????????????????????????????/
I haven't explored with the Shield Tablet (16G is enough for my apps currently, so my SD card is portable storage). But on my Moto G3, Marshmallow removed the ability to move apps to SD unless you've integrated it as adopted (i.e., internal) storage. If the SD is mounted as portable storage apps can't be moved to the card. Again, not positive if this is also the case for the Shield, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Dude, stop complaining and you really need to write clearly so other people can read your post.
Conclusion: there is a way to bypass and use SD card as internal storage, but it is not a good idea.
Here is why:
I have a LG K371, and a G.Skill 64GB microSD with speed class 10. The microSD is not as good as Sandisk's speed class 10, as it read/write at 45/15 MB/s vs Sandisk 80/20 MB/s.
The original 16GB internal storage read/write at about 100/70 MB/s (I don't remember the exact number).
After using ADB command tool, I did successfully bypass and be able to use microSD as internal storage. The process is a bit annoying, because I kept seeing error message and sometimes the phone show "SD card is corrupted". I repeat this process multiple times and did some test with differing configuration.
If I use all the space as internal storage, the speed is about 15/7 MB/s
If I use half the space (so I can use the card on computer), the speed is 13/5 Mb/s
If I use 16GB of space as internal storage, the speed is on 9/3 MB/s.
The speed difference is caused by the special file partition format used for adoptable storage, which can't be access by windows computer.
You see, even with a 64GB speed 10 SD card, the speed drops to 15/7 MB/s. It is as slow as USB 2.0 flash drive.
Not to mention if you use a 16GB SD card, the speed is only 9/3 MB/s, which is intolerably slow.
The real problem is that the phone doesn't recognize the speed difference between the SD card and the internal memory, it still thought the phone is running at 70MB/s. So when it installs apps to the memory or start a game (was supposed to be in the internal memory, but now in the SD card), it took way more time (do the math yourself, 70/7=10). Are you willing to wait for 2 minutes for a game to start, which originally took 5 sec? How about the endless lagging in the app, every thing takes 2 sec to response?
Use Sandisk may get a different speed result, but the user experience in this case will be similar.
So don't force to use SD card as internal storage if the phone's manufacture doesn't approve doing so.
Hope my story help you in some way.

My bad, didn't check post 8
Whether 47/28 or 28/21 are good, enough for daily use.
I was able to get 20 write with NTFS format. The problem is my LG Phoenix 2 (K371) is just terrible at handling adoptable storage. Considering it is less than half the price than MOTO E 2 (you can even get it $30 with deal), maybe the manufacture doesn't want or pay any effort to support adoptable storage. However, low-end budget phone happen to the one most need extra storage space, cause some of them even only have 8G ROM.
LG is different story, it seem oppose adoptable storage. Even high-end model like G4 doesn't support it in the stock rom.

A budge phone brand BLU supports it. I guess some brands don't do it because they want you to buy more expensive model with bigger storage, while some want to keep the price competitive.
I don't know all brands.
