Question Youtube Music battery drain - Samsung Galaxy S21+

Anybody else having massive battery drain from Youtube Music?
I am losing about 50% battery charge in 3 hours playback over a good signal data connection (full bars 5G) on BT headphones. Same scenario on my Note 9 and was using about half as much battery.
The only real difference is 5G vs 4G on the Note. Have I missed something in the settings somewhere?

[Q] Is this battery life okay?

Hi guys ive had my 8 GB moto g for about 3 months now was just wondering about my battery life compared to others I'm a moderate user web browsing YouTube videos etc on wifi when I'm out the house WiFi is turned off and 3g is on also use Bluetooth at night to connect my car stereo generally getting about 4 and a half hours screen time brightness on 30% thanks.

Battery drain & WQHD+

I've heard that the display doesn't come set to wqhd+ out of the box. Do you think setting it to this will cause a huge battery drain?
If the S7 and S7 edge are any indication, it should knock about 30 minutes off of its usual 14-15 hour estimates.
The main reason, IMO, not to use QHD+ is that it's pretty much useless for every day usage unless you're using VR. And if you're using VR, your battery's pretty screwed anyway, lol.
Don't you wish thy we could hear from Samsung about this directly. Argh
Sent from my Pixel XL using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I hear the new display are more efficient than the S7 displays according to DisplayMate. FHD and QHD+ doesn't have a big difference on drain either.

That's true, also a more efficient SoC and new battery tech that should hold charge better over time. It should balance things out. Software optimisation also helps.

this has already been discussed in another thread.
independent results put the SOT battery life at 42 minites MORE than an S7E, and i believe the tests were run at QHD
S8 Plus battery drain
Hello,
I am using S8 plus (Exynos) with dual sim.
SIM 1 -GSM only- totally for voice calls
SIM 2 - LTE only - totally for data and rarely for calls
QHD+
Location Off
AOD ON
Bluetooth, NFC , smart sensors etc- OFF
No apps run in the background.
I do not use power saving mode.
Moderate user - Mostly texting, Facebook, Online games, Youtube, sometimes reading.
The stats show around 24 hrs remaining after a full charge.
The SOT experienced is around 3 hrs- 3.5 hrs which I think is less, considering that I am not a heavy user.
What I want to understand is, why are some users reporting ridiculous SOT (7-8 hrs) even with heavy usage?
Am I interpreting these stats incorrectly? Is my battery not good?
I have tried to clear cache partition, even formatted my phone sometime back, but still, it hurts to see a lower SOT and battery draining rapidly.
I don't intend to troll, just clearing my doubts.
Kindly suggest.
Thanks
Sahil
You should probably start a new post since this thread has been inactive for a few months and is specifically about battery drain and resolution settings.
On a side note I'm in the same range you are, my cell reception sucks at work so I'm assuming that's part of my battery drain too.

Battery... GPS & music

Hi there my former LG urbane 2nd Edition watches lost in almost one hour jogging tracking and listening to music more than 40 % battery... Can someone confirm this or did this behavior change in the meantime... Thank you
i use gps only seldom, but i think for an hour it is around 25% at mine. you stream or music is on the device? if you stream and you might have bad cell connectivity, you might end up with 40%. in the normal case it should be less

SOT - how to measure, is this reasonable?

Hello,
I recently picked up a OP6 and I'm really pleased with it overall but SOT has been a little disappointing. At least I think it has depending which battery app I consult!
Accubattery Pro thinks I'm getting an average 8h 16m of SOT (this is definitely not correct!).
GSM Battery Monitor PRO reckons 4h 46m of SOT (which still seems a bit high).
In the battery tab of the Settings menu it reckons having used 65% of my battery I've had 2h 50m SOT (ie. from 100% after 2hr 50m of SOT I'm now sitting on 35%). I think this equates to about 4h 30m of SOT if I continued at the same pace. I guess this tallies pretty closely to the GSM Battery Monitor PRO so maybe this is about accurate.
I've followed the guide here to get the most SOT but 4h 30m seems on the low given that I don't game or stream, don't have FB installed etc. This is purely webbrowsing, a bit of YT and a podcast app (listening to downloaded podcasts rather than streamed if that makes a difference).
Nothing in the battery stats seems that unusual (please see attached). What does seem a little odd is that I'm not in a great spot for mobile reception but looking at the stats it doesn't look like the radio is draining the battery.
Any advice on how to delve deeper? I'm 100% stock and not rooted.
Any advice for a OP newbie is much appreciated
Hmmmm Better Battery Stats seems to tell a rather different story especially around the radio reception.
Again any advice much appreciated!
The poor signal is killing you. When the signal is poor it pumps out more juice trying to stay connected. If you will be in an area with poor signal and won't be using your phone I suggest putting it in airplane mode or maybe setting it to 3G as a proof of concept. If your battery is much better then you found your issue
Also wifi scanning is turned on,which is a battery killer. Turn it off and you can see a great difference

Thanks Spartan! The problem is poor indoor reception with the signal constantly cutting in and out. As such airplane mode may be the ultimate option but obviously it's a bit of a bummer as a long term solution! I'm going to try another provider which claims to have better indoor coverage in my area.
Question #1 - you mention trying setting to 3G as a proof of concept. Is that because a 2G/3G uses less power to connect than searching for a 4G connection? Should I try the 2G only option before the 3G one?
Question #2 - if I do try 2G/3G (before trying airplane mode) should I turn off mobile data too or does that make a difference?
Question #3 - I'm guessing having 2 sims installed makes the problem even worse as both are constantly calling for signal? I typically use one for data and one for voice.
Question #4 - when some folks post their battery graphs they have a picture which shows the mobile and wifi signal (see attached as an example). I don't seem to be able to find this. Was it removed from the latest update as the battery section seems to have changed a bit.
Thanks again!

Thanks for taking the time to reply!
Strangely I don't think I do have wifi scanning on (please see attached screenshots)! Location services are also off.
Are you thinking I do because the wifi is on 100% of the time?
Could this be because an app is somehow keeping it awake?
Hmmm can't see an option to check if "keep wifi on during sleep" is enabled. Has this been removed from 9.0.2?

Question [BATTERY] Post your GW4 size and battery life

Post your watch model and battery life, you can answer the poll to get some stats going
Better than expected but I expected bad
Mine is great. I have all the sensors turned on, always on display, tilt to wake, a lot of notifications on, and I also have Google Fit on and counting steps (just to see which app is more accurate). I charge it around 8-9, then put it on around 10:30pm to go to sleep, I do put it into sleeping mode, then on normal from around 7am to 8-9pm. It had 40% battery left last night when I put it on the charger. I'd guess in normal mode I would get around 24 hours.
2nd charge
It is really better than I expected. I passed on Watch3 because of this issue. Coming from a Watch (1). I have a classic 46mm. Not running wifi (only bluetooth) and was getting about 2 days with no workouts or gps. This is with notifications on with gmail and texts but that is it. Doing workouts and/or gps about a day and a half.
My last charge (which I believe is third time I charged it) lasted nearly 3 days (2 days, 20 hours). This was during this week and I was busy with work so pretty much no workouts but walked about 6,000 steps each day. I did not turn on power saving modes and went down to 1%. At 1% the watch was still syncing with phone.
First time use was this result. Now try it with this watch face. Like it because has compass and alot of other stuff
LTE version, about 2 weeks of use total. This is not exactly correct as getting notifications takes battery that is unexpected so it won't last that long
Ok I have had the GW1 46mm lte the GW3 in 41mm and 45mm both lte models and the GW4 in 42 mm and 46mm both lte
To ask the question on battery life you need to specify on lte models if lte is on ....off ...or on auto and
If you are in a low signal strength area ... if you are using remote connection to watch or are on 3g ...or 4g voicecalls
As a guide go onto 4g remote connection always on ....with bluetooth off ....wifi off....gps.off basically everything off apart from lte connection then go into a poor signal area from your provider you will not last 20mins before you overheat on a GW4 AND the battery drops by 20 percent ....hence do this a few times the battery is dead in 2 hours..?..or less
Do the sa e thing in a high signal strength area you can get over a days use and no overheating
But if you try just linking by bluetooth to your phone and turn every thing else off then same watch gets 2 and a bit days
Hence in answering the (how long does your bettery last question ?)
You need to say model of watch ....and what was turned on and what was off ..?and if lte model if it was on and in use and the signal strength during the test ...
Hi all,
I have also recently bought one - GW4 classic 46 mm LTE.
On the attached screenshot you can see how I am with the battery life - roughly 2 days. That's the maximum with the following settings:
LET - OFF - I haven't activated a mobile plan
GPS - OFF
Wifi - OFF
AOD -OFF
NFC - OFF
Brightness - around 40%,
Bedtime mode - scheduled from 00:00 to 07:30 + Power saving for the same period
All smart gestures (raise to wake, gestures for answering/dismissing calls and notifications, quick launch) - ON
Notifications with turning display on for Viber, Gmail, Slack(not always), Phone, Yahoo Mail, FB Messenger, Calendar, Clock, Phone Messages) - ON
Vibration - OFF
Samsung Health monitoring features - OFF (only steps counting )
I have several calls during the day, and a light to moderate number of notifications.
My battery lasts around 43/6 hours - almost two days.
What's your opinion, guys? Am I doing well in terms of battery life, or is my battery underperforming for its capabilities?
P.S. This is my 3d charge cycle.

@Alfiedog, interesting point. Are you basically saying that my battery will last longer if I am on LTE with BT, Wifi and GPS off?
