Question [BATTERY] Post your GW4 size and battery life - Samsung Galaxy Watch 4

Post your watch model and battery life, you can answer the poll to get some stats going

Better than expected but I expected bad

Mine is great. I have all the sensors turned on, always on display, tilt to wake, a lot of notifications on, and I also have Google Fit on and counting steps (just to see which app is more accurate). I charge it around 8-9, then put it on around 10:30pm to go to sleep, I do put it into sleeping mode, then on normal from around 7am to 8-9pm. It had 40% battery left last night when I put it on the charger. I'd guess in normal mode I would get around 24 hours.

2nd charge

It is really better than I expected. I passed on Watch3 because of this issue. Coming from a Watch (1). I have a classic 46mm. Not running wifi (only bluetooth) and was getting about 2 days with no workouts or gps. This is with notifications on with gmail and texts but that is it. Doing workouts and/or gps about a day and a half.
My last charge (which I believe is third time I charged it) lasted nearly 3 days (2 days, 20 hours). This was during this week and I was busy with work so pretty much no workouts but walked about 6,000 steps each day. I did not turn on power saving modes and went down to 1%. At 1% the watch was still syncing with phone.

First time use was this result. Now try it with this watch face. Like it because has compass and alot of other stuff

LTE version, about 2 weeks of use total. This is not exactly correct as getting notifications takes battery that is unexpected so it won't last that long

Ok I have had the GW1 46mm lte the GW3 in 41mm and 45mm both lte models and the GW4 in 42 mm and 46mm both lte
To ask the question on battery life you need to specify on lte models if lte is on ....off ...or on auto and
If you are in a low signal strength area ... if you are using remote connection to watch or are on 3g ...or 4g voicecalls
As a guide go onto 4g remote connection always on ....with bluetooth off ....wifi off....gps.off basically everything off apart from lte connection then go into a poor signal area from your provider you will not last 20mins before you overheat on a GW4 AND the battery drops by 20 percent ....hence do this a few times the battery is dead in 2 hours..?..or less
Do the sa e thing in a high signal strength area you can get over a days use and no overheating
But if you try just linking by bluetooth to your phone and turn every thing else off then same watch gets 2 and a bit days
Hence in answering the (how long does your bettery last question ?)
You need to say model of watch ....and what was turned on and what was off ..?and if lte model if it was on and in use and the signal strength during the test ...

Hi all,
I have also recently bought one - GW4 classic 46 mm LTE.
On the attached screenshot you can see how I am with the battery life - roughly 2 days. That's the maximum with the following settings:
LET - OFF - I haven't activated a mobile plan
GPS - OFF
Wifi - OFF
AOD -OFF
NFC - OFF
Brightness - around 40%,
Bedtime mode - scheduled from 00:00 to 07:30 + Power saving for the same period
All smart gestures (raise to wake, gestures for answering/dismissing calls and notifications, quick launch) - ON
Notifications with turning display on for Viber, Gmail, Slack(not always), Phone, Yahoo Mail, FB Messenger, Calendar, Clock, Phone Messages) - ON
Vibration - OFF
Samsung Health monitoring features - OFF (only steps counting )
I have several calls during the day, and a light to moderate number of notifications.
My battery lasts around 43/6 hours - almost two days.
What's your opinion, guys? Am I doing well in terms of battery life, or is my battery underperforming for its capabilities?
P.S. This is my 3d charge cycle.

@Alfiedog, interesting point. Are you basically saying that my battery will last longer if I am on LTE with BT, Wifi and GPS off?

Samsung Gear S2 3g Battery Life

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out what options would keep my battery life up on the s2 3g.
I've had the watch for a couple days now and I'm trying to figure out which features drain the most battery.
I would like to keep 3g on (but it's not really necessary when sitting at my desk all day), bluetooth, and always on. I don't mind keeping the screen at a brightness of 3, and my watch face is a dark background, I have 6 apps selected for notifications.
I do not have gps, or wifi on.
I guess what would be helpful is basically a list of the most battery draining items on the watch. It would also be great to have a battery management app (for the developers out there) that could quickly turn on/off certain items. Right now there's a battery saving mode, a do not disturb mode, and airplane mode... these are all in different locations, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to have some more quick control over all these types of items and additional ones to just manage all the battery draining items, like the pedometer and other "ometers"... is there a way to turn those items off?
Overall I love the watch, but it would be nice to not be thinking about the battery so much... and just use it.
I'm wondering the same thing. Turned it on at around 6am, have brightness set to 1. Haven't used it that much. Wake up gesture is on but not screen always on. I'm at 30% at 2:41pm....with my gear s I was able to get through a 6am-9/10pm day on auto brightness and still have a little battery left (that included a 2 mile walk in the morning using some health exercise with gear s.) I haven't even used the exercise option in this (other than the pedometer) because I'm afraid it will drain the battery.
I love everything else about the s2 though
I'm suppose to get mine this week and battery is my biggest concern. I plan to use this to run for up to 2.5 hours and play mp3's. I might cancel based on what you 2 are saying.
I do have nfc on, 3g on auto switch, and WiFi set to on (only switches on if I walk out of bt range) I did get a lot of espn notifications, texts, email...but not any more than I did on the gear S. I have the screen set to stay dark and not turn on for notifications. With my gear S I had the screen set to turn on full screen with every notification. I'm going to try tomorrow with nfc, 3g, and WiFi off....but, I shouldn't have to do that...I should be able to use all those, if needed, and still be able to get the 14-16 hours+ that I was getting with my Gear S. Like I said, I do really love everything else about it!
Try a restart
I had a terrible first day, with the Watch dying after 8 hours. I suspected that some of the app installs were having and draining it so I restarted both phone and watch.. The next day, I got 15 hours and still had 40 percent left. I have NFC and wifi turned off, network to autoswitch (with me leaving phone home and relying on 3g for 2 hours), turned off "always on" screen (because the wake gesture is SO much more accurate than with Gear S), and a white watchfacer with brightness set to 7. Very happy so far. Suggest restarting watch and phone after Gear app installs or updates
Thanks! I'll try that. Is your location/gps set to off? I also had s voice set to a voice commands and have now turned that off. Is a white watchface or black more draining? (I would assume white would drain the battery more)
I think the NFC, GPS, Always on being turned off have been a huge help with the battery life, and I understand why those things would drain a battery, but it would be nice to be able to have everything turned on and at least get a day's use.
In general I assume the first day you get the watch it his heavily impacted by the app downloads... I let it drain to zero and then fully to 100%... I also stopped playing with it every ten seconds. BUT as I mentioned earlier, this should be usable for a day minimum with normal usage. If Samsung has a "normal" usage setting in mind that will allow for a day (or the 2 days advertised for the 3g version), there should literally be an option in settings called "normal usage" that should get you the 2 days.

I absolutely agree! I was able to get 14-16 hour day (with some left) on my gear s, with all the options that I wanted turned on. This this new and improved device should, at a minimum, give me comparable battery life! I'm also having an issue with the activity tracker telling me I'm doing light activity when I'm sitting on the couch watching TV....that is definitely not light activity.

Maybe in Korea "light activity" means "couch potato"?
Yea, we'll see what happens with future updates. One of the big draws to this watch (aside from all the other enticing factors) was the battery life... I guess time will tell.

How does one get to this 'close all apps' feature?
Go to Apps and select blue circle. I think, it is last opened apps. There You can select Close all.

Was also curious about everyones setup.
First 2 days i didnt take into account battery because i was playing with it alot.
Today, booted watch at 7am, booted, got on, checked in 15 minutes, and was from 100-69%
Current setup,
display at 3%
about 10 apps that alert,
S Health
3G/4G is at auto
GPS-off
NFC-off
WiFi-off
i did have a Power Ranger face(which i loved) but it had alot livewallpaper action, blinking lights, and pieces that moved etc, changed to the default one with the stars in background with digial.
i am currently at 33% from 7 1/2 hours of usage
no music, have not taken any calls, havent responded to any messages, literally looked and swiped away.
Would a rooted Sam N4 have any effect on the performance of the watch?
I was on stock, but was horrible after the lolipop update.
Still on stock ROM, just rooted and bloatware removed, nothing special.
Ok, good thing there is a thread on this already.
So first day I didn't take battery into consideration, because you always fiddle with it too much. Then I had to work for two days, and my job is heavy construction, so I don't bring my watch, I left it on the charger for two days straight. I put it on Friday night, and didn't charge it till Saturday night. Today (Sunday) I was at 15% by about 12pm, and I took it out of the charger by 9am. This doesn't seem right. Did leaving it on the charger for too long mess up my battery? What is going on here?

Were you on just 3g...instead of bt? My battery life has improved with turning a lot of the options (wifi, nfc, heartrate monitoring) off. If I'm on 3g it is a whole different story....accidentally left my phone home the other night and was remotely connected between watch and phone....dropped down 40% in less than two hours. Has anyone else had a similar issue?
I don't have the 3g model, I have the classic. Yesterday it was good for the whole day, but to be honest I didn't check the battery when I took it off the charger this morning. I went to bed at 2am,so maybe between 2 am and 9 am it didn't have time to fully charge?

I think the variant of the 3g gear s2 and your network is key for battery life.
I have a tmobile carrier gear s2 and the battery life for the first two days was at about 18 hours off the charger each day and ending up with 15% at the end of each day before charging.
Mind you this is with 3 email accounts getting maybe 10 emails per hour, Answering texts and even taking a call or two on the watch, and also controlling my spotify for my note.
The tmobile watch has auto on/off 3g for when you disconnect from bluetooth or WiFi to your phone. I've heard that not all gear s2's have the auto on/off 3g feature?
Overall highly satisfied. But just turn off what you don't need when you don't use it has always been the name of the game when it comes to any mobile battery life. Nfc doesn't need to be on if you don't use samsung pay consistently. Neither does WiFi. Bluetooth and or 3g should be all anyone really every needs for true daily usage imo

I agree. I have had the 3g version since 2 days after its launch on T-Mobile. I had a white one and returned it b/c I was convinced something was wrong with the watch. I got a second one (black one) two weeks later and have the same issue. If I turn off all of the functions I wanted the watch for -- i.e., 3g, Wifi, NFC -- I can get a day of use. This is really disappointing b/c I have the classic as well, and it lasts twice as long with the same amount of activity. I hope Samsung does not something to extend the battery life on the 3g version.
I also have the Tmobile Gear S2 and on the first full day, I only got about 10 hours of battery life with very little use using all of the watch defaults. On day 2, I opted to turn off wifi and the cell radio and now I have great battery life. In excess of 17 hours if not more. On day 3 I decided to turn on wifi and bluetooth only. Battery life is still fantastic, once again in excess of 17 hours if not more. Next test will be all three radios on again, then just the cell radio only.
Hope this helps,
GP
What are you guys doing with your watches that you need 3g and wifi on all the time? I have mine setup with bluetooth on and 3g auto with wifi, gps, and NFC turned off. I also have the heart rate monitor turned on and set to take my heart rate as often as it will. I have screen on all day and display is at 3. I can make it a full day (630a - 10p) and still have about 40% left. I basically use mine while at work to check notifications so I'm not constantly picking up my phone just to clear a twitter notification. I know they made it so that you can use these for content consumption, but I don't think it was ever meant to be it's primary function, that's what the $700 cell phone in my pocket or the 400 tablet in my backpack is for. That being said, if you wanted to use it for a run and listen to music, do it. Just know that you may need to throw it on the charger later on when you are relaxing on the couch. To me, a full days use on any device is fair, but that's just my 2c.

Great watch, awful battery (frontier LTE)

With NumberSync on, the frontier only seems to last around 9 or 10 hours on a full charge OVERNIGHT meaning I'm not doing a thing on it. Wifi is off, location is off, Bluetooth is off and obviously the screen is off. This is going to be my second day on it but unfortunately I won't be wearing it because the watch was pretty much dead when I woke up prior to work this morning. Will report back but unfortunately this isn't what I expected.
ok keep us updated

With Bluetooth off and WIFI off then the watch is using cellular to stay connected. This is probably the heaviest battery drain of all types of connection (verses BT & WIFI). Make sure cellular is also turned off or allow the watch to use BT or WIFI to stay connected.
When numbersync first rolled out for the LG Watch Urbane 2 on AT&T it was a battery hog. Could be that there are some growing pains to go thru with numbersync on Gear S3. Also, I have had my T-Mobile Gear S3 now for 3 days and each charging cycle I seem to get better mileage. I run BT on, WIFI off, always on screen, Mobile connect auto. First day very bad battery life (plus I was using it a lot) about 6+% drain per hour. During my last charge cycle I was able to use it for almost 2 full days about 3% drain per hour. Just gave it a charge this morning and so far am seeing a little over 2% drain per hour. I believe it will settle in nicely after a few more charge cycles.
Had me worried for a second there until Bladder61 explained why your battery drained so fast. This will be my first LTE connected watch [2 BT only devices in the past]. I see that leaving home for a couple of days without my phone isn't what these devices were designed for.
Mine is at 90%. On TMO though... Took it off charger around 8am. Lots of calls and notifications
So which connection setting would be best for battery conservation, WiFi or Bluetooth at at home? Obviously I'd go stand alone when I'm out and about

Nvm I'm going to quote myself and say I'm a dummy for not reading above
T-Mo LTE version here. Took mine off the charger last night at 0200. It's 2137 now and I'm at 34%. Not much use today except for some texting.
Yesterday I used it to listen to music during a 40 minute walk as well as load some music onto the Gear. Downloaded apps and organized the device and settings. I ran out of juice last night and had to charge it. With general use It definitely won't go past a day of normal use.
Okay as of right now I have my gear s3 on standalone mode for the day starting at 100 percent. I will report back with results and all current settings.
I have the LTE T-Mobile version.
I put the watch on around 8.30 am - Was half day at home and about 3-4 hours out. Barely used it besides looking at some notifications. nothing else. It's 9pm right now and the watch is at 8%. I contacted support and they insist it lasts 3 days... Has anyone found any solution?

I believe Samsung bases that 3-4 days off of running the watch at it's most economical conditions. This probably means,
Bluetooth: on
Mobile Connect: off
WIFI: off
Always on Screen: off
Minimal amount of notifications enabled
Power Saving mode or off overnight
I have owned several Android Wear, and nearly every Samsung Gear watch. The people that report several day usage are running these very minimalistic settings. The Gear S3 has a 380mAh battery, I have a LG watch Urbane 2 with cellular and it has a 580 mAh battery. With BT and auto cellular enabled I get a drain of 3% - 3.5% per hour. Now that my Gear S3 is 5 days old and has been thru several charge cycles I am getting a steady 3% per hour drain.
Try using your S3 for an entire day with minimum settings and see what you get at the end of the day. You will probably see that you could get several days use.
I want my watch always on, and I want cellular when I walk away or leave my phone. I don't want to have to flick my wrist to see time. I know that I can easily get a full day of use from the S3 and still have 40+% left at the end of the night when I throw it on the charger and go to bed.
Everyone is different, find a power solution that fits your needs. Good Luck.
Thank you for the detailed response. Means really a lot! A couple qs.
1. When the LTE/mobile connections is on auto and i'm home using wifi or bluetooth is still draining battery.
2. Always on display is a huge battery drain correct? - Really like not to see a blank screen...
What will you recommend to be the ideal settings as I spent half day home/half day out.
Is there a shortcut to turn LTE on/off quick?
Thank you so much!

Hey guys, I'm back as promised to give my feedback again. Since this morning, Ive lost 40 percent battery life (roughly 3 percent an hour). This is in stand alone mode with wifi off, nfc off, always on display is off, brightness is at 5, notifications for texting and Facebook on. I made a couple of calls earlier and answered a few texts. Didn't play around a whole lot on it though (Truthfully, didn't have a reason to).
One thing I don't understand is why to even have the lte version if it's such a battery drain over Bluetooth. Most of us I'm sure carry our cell phones around no? Anyways, the battery performed better than my initial test which basically died within 10 hours.
You've gone 13 hours in standalone mode and have more than 60% battery. To me that's awesome! I'd run AOD and just charge it nightly.
I think LTE is useful because many folks have occasions when they don't want to carry a phone (ie. running, going to the gym, gardening, hanging around the house naked). And there are a few weirdos who dream of abandoning their smartphone altogether...

I will try tomorrow with stand along along with AOD then report back! I will try other settings every day. After this, I'll do Bluetooth
I have had mine on for 24 hrs now, wifi on, bt on, auto forwarding on, AOD off, used gps once for 40 minutes, medium to heavy notifications, notifications turned off at night, brightness at level 5, and I am sitting at 40%. I figure once I get the battery trained and I don't play with it so much I will get close to three days.

I'm basically getting a day of general use out of the device. Today I turned off GPS and wifi to see if there is much difference. I already have the AOD turned off. Typically I'm putting the watch on around 6:30am and back in the cradle around 9:00pm. At that point there is around 20â„… battery left. Not sure how this thing will stretch 3-4 days.
I have the t-mo LTE version and im getting close to 18 hours out of it and thats calls and txt watched 3 er 4 youtube videos on it yesterday along with some music and general goofing around with it still getting it set up
wifi on BT on screen always on auto call forwarding when i go to far from my phone and so far its doing good
I have AOD off. I don't really need to know the time unless I'm looking at the watch and as you must accomplish the same move to get the screen to wake up as you would to check the time with AOD on, I see no need to have it on. Well other than have others checking out our watch. I have Wifi and LTE set to connect automatically when I'm out of range of BT. As I'll have my phone me a majority of the time, those connections will see limited use [good thing T-Mobile gave me a free line with unlimited everything for it.] I can easily get 2 days with these settings.

battery life.. at BEST 1 day

Hi,
This is my 3rd day with the watch which I like so far but I was wondering: so far, what is your impression of the battery life?
Yesterday I drained it and food a full charge (about 1.5hrs) and it looks like it will survive fit an approx 24 hours. I've tried to have only light activity (send and receive few messages, play with a few watch faces etc.
From the Samsung gear app on my phone it shows that watch faces takes the majority of the power (makes sense as it's the most running app). In the 2nd place I see "settings"
Also, any proven suggested modification to dramatically improve battery life?
Where is the "no thanks" button??
I have had my Frontier for three weeks tomorrow and the battery lasts three days and still has 10% left. Looks like it takes time to condition the battery.

No, did set it when I first got it but with a twist of the wrist the display comes on so why bother. I do wear it every day and shealth runs in the background. My two sons have Apple watches and they say the battery only lasts the day and always charge at night.
I have a Non LTE frontier. I have everything on - AOD, most notifications, have used some GPS today, location on. I'm sure I could get 2 full work days out of it. I charge nightly anyway but have yet to have less than 55% left if I put the watch on at 6am and go to bed around 10pm. I'm more than happy with the battery.
Are you interested in metrics just for the sake of it? Under all reasonable circumstances, the S3 will last more than 24 hours. This, combined with its quick charging cycle means that the battery life of this watch has no impact on real-world functionality. I would probably be considered a heavy user: the S3 is my primary phone so it's in standalone mode (LTE always on) with AOD. I wear it at night to track sleep patterns. When I arise, I put it on the charger while I get ready for the day. So the watch is worn 23 hours per day and recharged for one. Most use cases are less demanding than mine and thus require an even less rigorous schedule.
When a device requires charging 20 minutes a day or 30 minutes every other day, battery life discussions become kinda trivial.
I had this issue my first day, It doesnt have a built in way to take out apps that are draining alot of power. SO after I use apps like the media player and such i remove them from ram and it lasts a ton longer.
It takes a few days to settle.
I have everything turned on, enabled, maxed, AOD, brightness, location, wifi, bluetooth, volume, vibration, synced with phone. And I get 2 FULL days out of it.
I don't use the AOD on my watch and I've had mine for about 2 weeks. I can consistently go at least 12 hours with battery remaining around 93%. Granted I don't use any of the SHealth functions because I don't need it, but I get my notifications from my device and frequently switch watch faces.
I don't use AOD and get a good 3 days between charging, one thing I did that improved things was changing from a white watch face to a dark almost black one
When i first received the S3 Frontier, I was getting around 8 hours the first day and 1/2 that on 2nd day.
Mostly due to a new toy and constantly playing with everything.
Now for 12 hours, I lose about 13-18 %.
I have the LTE model with AOD off, BT on and wi-fi off
sound at 15, screen at 5 and screen time out at 30 sec.
Email linked to exchange ( ~ 40-60 emails)
Text - < 100 a day
inbox notices from google
all sounds and vibrations enabled.
Number synced.
< 10 min. on phone
Currently getting 2 days on the battery with everything set to on. Screen brightness set to 5.
I do switch it off at night as I see no need to have it powered up whilst asleep. Always on display is switched on along with Wifi too.
Without AoD and Wifi on I can make 3 days.
Happy with it.
Frotier LTE: I get one full day.
I get one full day 7AM to 1AM.
Brightness: 4
Always On: Yes
Auto low brightness: On
Screen Timeout: 15 seconds
Bluetooth: Always on
Network: Always on <--this is a biggie. BTW: Setting this setting to ON is the only way to get text and phone calls from BOTH you cell phone number and your watch phone number simultaneously.
Phone calls: 10-12 a day.
Text: 10-12 a day
Notifications: ~50 a day
New toy factor: Play with it too much.

No, did set it when I first got it but with a twist of the wrist the display comes on so why bother. I do wear it every day and shealth runs in the background. My two sons have Apple watches and they say the battery only lasts the day and always charge at night.

what am I doing wrong? My watch doesn't turn on half the time I flip my wrist. Any suggestions on how to flip my wrist corrrectly?
@joe1234567890
I have a non LTE Frontier (UK) S3 and that may be why I get the three days compared to you, not really sure.
Is it anyway to stop all shealth fonctionality except the cardiometer?
I'm at 11% right now with 4day 13hr 37mins on battery. Only use it for notification and some samsung pay. AOD off. Frontier LTE version.
Frontier BT version, 3rd day in use, first load lasted 2 days, aiming for 3
Aod off
Brightness 2
Dark watchface
Wifi off
BT always on
~50 messages/d
10 phone calls/d
1 hour/d playing with new apps and stuff
1 hour/d training program
Not too bad

In my experience, this thing has awesome battery life. Even better than my Huawei. I have the brightness at maximum, have the AOD enabled, and use the Chronograph+ face. I get notifications on it pretty frequently throughout the day, and when i get home after an 8-9 hour work day, the Gear S3 usually has around 75% battery life left.

Question Battery Life: Lte watch in bluetooth mode vs bluetooth only watch

I checked all the topics (one topic with 2 answers mentions that) and I didn't find an answer to my question, which is:
Is using only bluetooth connection on LTE version watch has worse performance than using watch with only bluetooth version?
Manual says it is possible to change LTE connection to "always off" in the settings, so theoretically battery life should be the same.
And while you are already here, one more question: LTE connection allows only to recieve calls and sms, no app notifs as standalone, right?
I am facing a decission which one 46mm classic shall I buy, and LTE is only 20$ more so I wonder, as I would use eSIM ocasionally, if I should get more expensive one (price for plan taken into account, low cost).
Most worrying are stories that right out of the box LTE versions battery life is pathetic; not even reaching 18hrs not even connected to LTE, while bluetooth versions are doing much better. Any chance that updates changed these problems?
Thanks in advance.

I am also wondering which one gets the best battery life. Hopefully someone has an answer, so both of us can make a more informed purchase decision.
It is unlikely anyone can really answer your question authoritatively because I doubt anyone here has BOTH an LTE and non-LTE watch such that they can be compared with otherwise identical setup and use-cases.

These are information I was able to find:
*There are some posts over the net of owners claiming that LTE has poor battery life, which is changing every update - once for worse, once for better. There are some news today saying that latest update made battery life worse.
*There is one topic on this forum saying directly that LTE version with Bluetooth turned on has worse battery life than regular LTE, while some owners post LTE screenshots of getting 2 days of battery life
*LTE versions receive updates later - needs confirmation
*LTE allows to recieve and make sms and calls, and also to use Google maps sort-of. Watch standalone doesn't receive phone apps notifications.
*First days are the phase of watch learning battery habits, usually length of battery cycle extends
That's most important info I was able to find so far where it is not mentioned in reviews. Feel free to add something that will be useful for someone looking for advice and if I wrote something wrong - please correct me.
I ordered LTE version. Gonna check out how it will handle basic tasks.
Also there's one very good discussion about the problem:

Well, it is kinda unacceptable, but i might order two models and gonna compare both of them and return one as it might turn with worse battery life than the other. I want to avoid that, so I'm searching for advice here. If i won't find any, there will be only one thing left for me to do.

You do not need to do that. It is simple logic. BT and LTE will have exactly the same battery life if you turn mobile data off on the LTE model. If you actively use LTE, this will drain the battery in less than 12 hours.

Yes, there is some logic behind that, but surprisingly there are topics like this:
Where are the battery troubles in the LTE models coming from
There seems to be some sort of consensus that the LTE versions of the watch have more battery trouble Has anyone actually given it some thought as to why? When LTE is off it should not make a difference, but it does seem to exist. Is the...
forum.xda-developers.com
FWIW, I have an LTE Galaxy watch 4 (non classic) 44mm. I usually get 36-48 hours with LTE mode on automatic (which means it only connects to LTE when BT is disconnected or there is no data connection from phone, of course if the phone had no data like in an elevator then the watch won't either regardless of it trying to connect to the same non existent data source). If I turn LTE off completely I can stretch it out to 2 full days. But that's my usage, ymmv.
I too have a GW4 Classic 46mm and have experienced battery drain, however, I expected this and am prepared to live with it as being untethered from my phone was THE primary reason for purchasing this model (My previous watch was a Gear S3 BT version hooked up to my S9).
I hate being out for a run and having to carry my phone with me. It's much more convenient, for me at least, to head out now with my Buds Pro and stream Spotify and not have to carry my bulky S21 Ultra (even with an arm band).
Mind you, when I say battery drain, I'm using mobile data, GPS, AOD and BT, so it's expected.
It's not a deal breaker as far as I'm concerned as I chuck it on the charger while in the shower and by the time I'm ready to wear it again, it's back to the battery level it was when I walked out the door.
Everyone's use case and expectations will vary though and opinions are like aholes; everyone has one.
Hopefully the efficiency of the watch and it's OS improve over the next 6 to 12 months but I, for one, am happy with mine.
If you're searching for the perfect piece of tech, thats akin to searching for that elusive pot of gold at the end of that rainbow.
Happy trails!
No Change in battery life if u use automatic mode. I have Galaxy watch 46 mm and my battery remains on 45 percent at the end of day when i use bluetooth or LTE only mode. Original glaxy waych is bigger and has bigger battery with less functions and hence lasts longer.
I totally agree with this. That's why I got it. But nevertheless the battery life isn't long enough for a 2 hour run if LTE, BT playing music are active. It really is frustrating. I actually power the watch off totally and only power up just as I begin a run.
I have both. I have a watch 4 classic and a watch 4 lte. This is not to say my experience is better, worse, or the same as anyone else's but here is what I've dealt with. The Bluetooth only lasts about a day and a half, sometimes 2. The LTE version was at least a day, until after a couple of updates. The LTE version over heats on me whether I am on LTE or not or even have it turned on. I can't run many apps without it overheating. Turning on LTE without the watch pretty much turns it to airplane mode. If I just leave it set to automatic and not really do much with it other than let it be a watch and receive notifications. Now the battery life is horrible. I can take it off the charger and drive to work, a 10 minute drive, it's already down to 92-95 percent by the time I clock in. By lunch, it's asking to go into battery saver mode. That's with LTE mode in automatic. Turning it off is not better. I tried to track a hike and it overheated on me. I got the LTE version because of the fall detection just in case anything happened on the mountain trail. I had to turn LTE off to continue and even then battery drained like crazy and the device was sluggish. Totally defeating the purpose of me paying for it.It wasn't that bad in the beginning but if course, it's worse after my return period ended.
has anyone with LTE model and using auto mode that lte will stay on no matter what? mine for some reason won't turn off the lte connection even when my phone is connected to it. very seldom do i see the bluetooth only with my phone around. am i missing something?
I've notice that watch being connected to wifi with LTE on auto has much worse battery life. Ergo - i set LTE on only purposefully while choosing to go out without phone, otherwise i choose LTE always off. When i choose LTE off it switches off without problem. Does restart help?
When I went to bed, my watch was on about 60%, left it in the shelf and thought there would be enough juice for the next day but was down to 45%, when the watch isn't on a wrist, surely it goes into a low power state?

Me too. Though I tried setting LTE to ON and then to auto and it seems to now deactivate when connected to by or Wi-Fi (at least from the quick settings pane or can I see somewhere else if lte is active?)
HI all,
Are there any updates if there are differences in the performance between LTE in BT mode and BT only?
@Bo_Doc, did you manage to find out, did you buy both?
I am currently with LTE 46mm. Airplane mode is turned ON and then BT turned ON manually to connect to the phone - calls, messages, notifs - all good.
I bought the watch on 10.02.2022, so pretty new. Here is my experience with the battery life.
With the settings below my battery lasts around 43/6 hours - almost two days. That's the maximum for me.
What's your opinion, guys? Am I doing well in terms of battery life, or is my battery underperforming for its capabilities?
P.S. This is my 3d charge cycle.

Question Watch 4 Classic battery life

Just got my Watch 4 Classic 46mm to replace my Watch 3 45mm. On day 1, after about 2 hours the battery is down 14%. Is that typical? My Watch 3 would go through an entire 16 hour day using only about 30-34%. Any tips? Thanks.

Thanks. A day is a real downgrade from the watch 3 classic. I may have to return this. For instance, my GW3 has been off the charger for 3 hours, and it's at 96% battery. The GW4 has been off charger for 2.5 hours and it's at 86% battery.

My GW4 was taken off the charger at 0730, 4 hours later 90%, but i did a cycle work out, so that uses power.

Like the other poster said, you can't know anything about battery life in Lithium-ion devices until it has completed several discharge/charge cycles. And I recommend at least one FULL discharge (all the way until it dies). Only then will it achieve full battery potential.
My battery is now on 16% after 30 hours of normal use.

"normal" use depends on person... I'm ok for 2 .5 days
It usually gets better after awhile....
Mine is on for 2, sometimes 3 days when I dont work out. However when I work out, because I'm a bit cheap to pay for an app to track my gym weights.. I take notes with google note on the watch and use the normal stopwatch which causes my display to be active the whole time while I work out. Bluetooth is paired with buds and I listen to music. Takes about 25-35% for a 2 hour workout. I bought the watch primarily to not be forced to run with my phone and be able to track my progress in the gym.
I'm starting to write an app which makes the tracking easier and has build in pause timers so the display wont be on the whole time... I'll also write a widget to not be forced to open the stopwatch app just to start/pause it...
App switching is also pretty slow.. I feel like my galaxy s3 was faster doing that...It's my first smartwatch and I'm disappointed... I should have bought a cheap alternative for 1/3 of the price and would've probably gotten the same performance. As a sidenote, I have pretty my everything turned off on the watch and don't wear it the whole day.
I usually do 3 days, light use. Switch off for night.
Indeed battery is worse then my prewious GW3
I get about 2 day's with some workout activities, etc.
But this watch could use a built-in solar charger!
Hi all,
I have also recently bought one - GW4 classic 46 mm LTE.

I don't see the point. You got an LTE watch, you turned off everything. Hope you got lots of money
