WiFi and 5G issue - General Questions and Answers

Hey all,
Stupid question alert. Right now, my phone switches between WiFi and 5G, depending on which is better. How do I turn that off and just use WiFi in Android 10?

I've never heard of that, do you leave you mobile data turned on the whole day or it automatically turns itself on?
Can you tell us what's your phone please?

It's the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra 5G on ATT. It's only been somewhat recent (over the last month or so), and mobile data is on. Can i turn it off, and still get calls and texts and stuff?

[Q] Need help with Fujitsu F-02e

I have the F-02E. I set up the APN for T-mobile UK and things were fine until i switched wifi on and the signal disappeared. i restarted the phone disabling wifi before hand. it was working fine.....is there a way to sort this out.
Another problem is when i open whatsapp to verify my number, it failed the first time with sms due to signal disappearing, second time it asked to call, the second i click the call button signal disappears and i can't receive or make calls, i have tested this several times, waited an hour pressed the button waited 10 mins pressed the button, same thing happens.....Any ideas as to why?
Hey man,
Did you manage to sort this. I am sort off ordered this phone. Does this support 3g mobile data? I am in the UK. How is this phone for general use?

I know it's too late now to advise you. Are you enjoying the phone?
I bought mine mainly because of the camera and screen. I am not disappointed with the screen but cannot say the same about the camera. The camera software is a joke with very loud shutter sound that cannot be turned off.
One other thing that bothers me is the heat. When I am using Internet on 3g,it gets so hot and the phone keeps shutting down or else I shut data off or turn on wifi instead. And the battery life is very unimpressive.
I was using galaxy a3 4g, so I was able to see the difference. I respect Samsung more now.
The Fujitsu is a nice phone anyway except for these niggles.

Galaxy Note Edge Internet problem?

Has anyone noticed the loss of Internet connection when you are on a phone call? I just got my Note Edge on Verizon and I can not be on the phone and use the Internet or anything else that needs a data connection. And the notification panel shows I no longer have a 4G-LTE connection but instead it shows 1X when on a phone call.

The note edge doesn't come shipped with that function.
Well that kinda stinks. I have got used to that function from my previous phones, the Note 2 and Note 3. Not to mention I always made fun of a buddy of mine that uses iPhone and he has never had that function until he got his new iPhone 6 (maybe the iPhone 5s). Oh well, guess I will have to make do.
That's the way it's supposed to work for now. You just have to hope and pray that VOLTE eventually comes to your area.
don't feel bad. us sprint users have the same problem. i think the gsm phones do it but cdma doesn't
Whats funny is my Sprint Note 3 was able to do VOLTE. But not the Note Edge.
Only thing like that now is if your connected to Wi-Fi you can use surf the web and talk at the same time.

I'm having the same issue on verizon. This actually sucks cause I used my Internet and talked a lot on my note 3. Is this something that can be fixed with an update or no?

Does anyone know if the note 4 does the same thing?

yes the sprint note 3 was a different lte. it wasn't a spark device. all phones that use spark are like that. no voice and data at the same time. funny how the "better" things that we move to don't always seem better
I found out if you go to settings then advanced calling and subscribe to advanced calling you can talk and surf the Web at the same time without WiFi.

Yeah noticed that too. Coming from a HTC One M8 I was really disappointed in that not working ;(
I've also noticed what seems to be antenna issues, wifi drops A LOT! and blue tooth cuts in and out in my truck.
Not sure if it's software or if I need to swap out for a new device due to faulty hardware.

I believe that's a carrier specific option.

Go to advance calling in setting. Click the button to on. Then go to your app drawer. Make sure My Verizon signed in. Power off your device. Turn your device back on. Make a 1-800-call to try it out. Problems fixed
I don't understand why Verizon does this. But they do. And to give you heads up. If your on the phone and surfing the net. Your going to eat more data. Your voice calling. Becomes data calling.. And this will only work on 4g.

Verizon apps on unlocked model

Anyone else seeing a bunch of Verizon apps when browsing their app list via settings on the unlocked model? I'm on T-Mobile and yet have Verizon Login, vzw_api, VZW_multicast_mw, vzwapn, vzw oma trigger (cannot be disabled). What gives?
My guess is that Google put these in there since the Pixel was built to work with Verizon as the "exclusive" carrier. But it still doesn't make sense since Verizon dabbles with the software on their version anyway.

The ones that come pre-installed are for WiFi calling, VVM, and Video Calling.
Both models will install extra apps from the Play Store if setup with a VZW sim-card.

I get this, Sprint also has an app or two pre-installed to handle their carrier specifics. It doesn't mean that they are "active".

Sorry if this is considered a hijack, but if I buy an unlocked version from Google, will it work with Verizon WiFi calling? Anyone tested this?

I've read that the answer is yes, WiFi calling should work for both Verizon and T-Mobile on the unlocked Pixels. I don't know how to tell if it's working on mine. I have an unlocked Pixel on Verizon. If someone knows how to tell, please let me know and I'll check.

Put it in airplane mode, then turn wifi back on and try to make a call.
On my Galaxy S7 I first had to enable wifi calling. Verizon does wifi calling differently from everyone else, it is part of advanced calling, and that is why I am dubious that it works on the unlocked version.

oddly i dont see them in my apps list (I'm on unlocked from google store version), but I DO see them when I scroll through my lists of apps in the battery optimization menu. I just randomly noticed this like 20 minutes ago for a totally unrelated reason. also, screw verizon.

I enabled WiFi calling, put it in airplane mode, turned on WiFi, and attempted to make a call. The phone told me to come out of airplane mode. I checked the settings and saw that WiFi calling was set to prefer cellular network. I saw no way to change the preference to WiFi. Seems it will only do WiFi calling if there is no cellular coverage available.

Other carriers let you change the preference to WiFi, but not Verizon. I've had that message before and had to reboot and try again on my S7. If you are on a poor cell signal, the phone will switch to WiFi, and you will get a small WiFi icon on the call screen. If I answer a call in my house with the cell radio on, it takes about 3 seconds to switch over. During those 3 seconds the person I'm talking to is saying "hello," "hello." So, I try to leave my phone in airplane mode with WiFi on when at home.

So far I have not found a way to "force" wifi calling on either model.

This is all it takes for me. I don't know about receiving calls via WiFi yet though. I doubt that it made a difference, but I'll mention that I partially set up my Google Store purchased device over WiFi before turning it off and inserting my Verizon SIM. I didn't log into any accounts while on WiFi, only after putting in the SIM. It also updated from build NDE63L to NDE63P, and I have some VZW specific apps as mentioned, but they're not in the app drawer.

Galaxy S8+ "Cannot turn on Wifi Calling service"

That's all I got. Just got a Sprint S8+ yesterday and I can't activate Wifi Calling at all. Every time I try it just says Cannot turn on Wifi Calling service. Any ideas?

This happened to me on Verizon and it was cause I had disabled Verizon login service. So if you disabled any bloatware from sprint you can start there.
Other guy has it 100%, it's one of the sprint services. I disabled it after the whole update from package disabler pro wiped out my disabled list. Had to go back through and enable stuff one by one until it works.
I believe it was sprint hub...but might be remembering wrong.

I am on Verizon as well, I've never used wifi calling on any of my phones. I moved to an area with crappy reception. I can not figure out how to make calls over wifi. Can ya help me out? I am 100% stock, nothing disabled.

Just noticed that's what it says here also, haven't noticed if that's the case though. I'll have to look at my wife's phone(pixel xl) later to see what it says, cause I know that was doing wifi calling whenever I was home.
Update: I just checked and your given a choice to prefer cell or wifi.

(SOLVED) Mobile data turns on and off unless Wi-FI is on

EDIT: it was T-Mobile's signal, not my beloved device.

Hey guys. This popped up out of nowhere
My data disconnects, quickly reconnects, then disconnects again and again unless I turn on my wifi, then data seems to stick until I turn off wifi again.
https://youtu.be/GUzThuJy14E
I had adguard for a few weeks activated, but nothing changed recently.
It does it regardless of:
Smart network switch being on or off
Aggressive WiFi/cell hand over is on or off
Keep mobile data turned on is on or off
I cleared cache both through recovery and phone maintenance, and I also reset network settings to no avail.
I've never dropped the phone and this started randomly while plugged in. It was at 19% and I plugged it in and noticed it out of the blue.
I'm on a US unlocked (non-carrier) S8+, and SIM works fine with no issues in my Moto X Pure, so it's not the SIM.
Please help guys!
Okay, I popped the SIM into my Galaxy S4 for ****s and giggles, and it's also doing it there, but not on my Moto X. So I'm gonna have to have a chat with T-Mobile tomorrow. Don't get it, the SIM is fairly new, is it a Samsung thing?

But to affect my other Galaxy device and not my Motorola?
My S4 and Moto X are rooted, but not my S8 is not, yet it affects the S4 exactly the same when swapping the SIM in and out?

I was saying it affects my rooted S4, but not my rooted Moto X when I swapped my SIM into each phone.
But member Britchel says it was affecting them as well, and it was just T-Mobile, nothing to do with the phones themselves, so it's all solved now.
