My smartphone is not showing files when "File Transfer" is chosen in android settings, usb configuration Also sometimes it shows as CD/DVD drive - OnePlus Nord Questions & Answers

My smartphone is not showing files when "File Transfer" is chosen in android settings, usb configuration Also sometimes it shows as CD/DVD drive
Android..settings..system..developer options..usb configuration offers- (file transfer, usb tethering, MIDI, PTP, no data tarnsfer).
From what I understand , "file transfer" is what android used to call MTP. The PTP option is of no interest at the moment cos with PTP when clicking internal storage, it'd only show two folders, DCIM and Pictures.. which is about right re PTP.
But "File transfer" is meant to show more folders from Internal Storage. But it isn't it's showing absolutely nothing.
The box my phone was in says it's a oneplus Nord N100.. The phone comes up as BE2013

I did at one point have it come up as a CD/DVD drive called H, and that included a driver called OnePlus_USB_Drivers_Setup.exe though there were issues accessing that "H" drive. I did already have a file on my system in my Downloads folder, called OnePlus_USB_Drivers_Setup.exe
I tried running that but it hangs on "Execute the commands". I see that mentioned here https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/...te-the-commands-while-loading-drivers.863054/ and the guy there tried compatibility mode for windows 8. Well, i'm on Window 7. I tried compatibility mode for XP SP3 but still same problem.
I also tried a solution somebody mentioned https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/oneplus-3-recognized-as-cd-drive.456113/ that he said he got from here/xda forum, that said go to device manager and find it under "portable devices" and change it to "MTP USB Device" but I think that isn't helping I think then it only shows as a CD/DVD drive then.
I ran into another issue where when trying to install the driver, it said it was struggling to copy certain files into program files x86 directory, though I was finding I could write files to that directory.

SOLVED
I installed the driver in safe mode and restarted..
Now it shows with both CD/DVD drive (that doesn't work), and as BE2013, (not MTP in device manager, but BE2013 in device manager), but it shows the files.
On another computer when I plugged it in, it showed as empty, no files.. I switched it to MTP in device manager like the link mentioned, then it worked. Still showing as both CD/DVD and as the phone BE2013, though both open. And the BE2013 shows the phones files. Then, another time, same computer it didn't work, gave an error when trying to install the driver, about not being able to write to program files x86. I put that in safe mode and tried(unlike the other computer), I got the same error even in safe mode, though I was able to click 'retry' and maybe it did. I kept getting it showing as empty, then I switched it to PTP and it just showed "internal shared storage" and within that, two folders as PTP does, DCIM and Pictures. Then I switched back to File Transfer, and dthis time instead of showing empty, it showed "internal shared storage", and within that, all the folders. So for that computer it took a weird mixture of things.
Update- it actually stopped showing files again, then I tried the adb installation driver from adbdriver.com it said it's already installed. I kept clicking 'install' then now it shows the files. I don't know whether that made a difference or how long the fix will last. Meanwhile, another partition/computer with Win10 sees it fine. So this is an issue related to this phone and Win7.

[Q] Cant access transformer files on PC

Hi All,
I am struggling to access my transformer files using my PC.
I have used the SDK tools and can get the device ID, so i know that bit works
USB Debugging is on
USB cable is new
I am using ICS Nightlies v24, the latest Gapps and TestyMeh v1.0 kernal
i can access the files in androids file explorer
my issue is odd, i connect my transformer to my pc and i hear the connection tone, it then shows up in my windows explorer (see picture 1). I click on it and it opens (Picture 2). then when i click on any of the files it goes to a blank window, and at the bottom it says "0 files" (Picture 3). if i try to drop a file it says it is going to root of storage and nothing happens (picture 4)
any idea why i cant see them?

I have same issue (but not that severe). I nailed it down to the .nomedia flags. Recently, the TF is connected to the PC as a media-device, so I think that .nomedia flag will play its role.
If you have the flag in the root --> whole drive is hidden.
If you have the flag in the root of a folder --> whole folder may appears empty. I just remove the flags to see the contents. But then the multimedia apps make pick up all the junks and add them to their library.
Currently I switch to a wireless connection (using some apps like Samba) to get around.

Samba seems to allow me to access the internal and external SD card, but it isn't the .nomedia issue. I guess this will work for now, but i would still like to get it sorted..........
thanks anyway, anyone else got an ideas?

[How-To] Wireless PC to Phone File Transfer via LAN [Easy][Free]

I recently started looking in to ways to transfer files wirelessly over wifi and was surprised at how little info there is here on xda. Though there are quite a few ways to accomplish this, for now I discuss one which is easy, free, and offers the option of remote (as in from your couch) manipulation of files on your PC as well.
The first question you might ask is, "why". Personally, I transfer a lot of files and I always worry about damaging my usb port when connecting to my PC many times a day. Also, if you already damaged your usb port, this offers a faster and more simple alternative to uploading to Dropbox or Google Drive, then downloading to your device. And if you have wireless charging on your device, you have the option to go (almost) completely wireless.
Feel free to use this thread as a place to discuss and share other methods of wireless file transfer.
Anyway, enough intro. On to the guide...
What you need:
A PC (this guide is for Windows 7)
A phone or tablet
ES File Explorer
Wifi network
This method should work for just about any phone or tablet, and any PC.
Limitations:
This method in general is not as fast as usb transfer. As such, it is not really practical for transferring large amounts of data (as in gigabytes).

1) On your PC navigate to Control Panel, Network and Internet, Network and Sharing Center.
2) Click on your wifi network, Details, then write down your IPv4 Address.
3) On your phone open ES File Explorer, then navigate to LAN and hit the + (New) icon.
4) Enter your IPv4 Address, and user name and password for your PC.
5) Still in the LAN tab, click on the new PC icon. You have now accessed you PC hard drive from your phone!
At this point you have numerous options. I created a folder on my PC desktop named "Transfer" where I drop files to copy to my phone (you can find your desktop from ES File Explorer at Users, <your user name>, Desktop). Now I simply long-press the file to transfer, select "Move to" from the "More" menu, then select the destination on my phone.

MTP Drivers problems with Windows 10 after last Windows Update

Hi, all.
After the last big windows update, my Galaxy S7 MTP connection stopped to work. It was working like a charm before. Now the driver is not recognized by Windows and there's no way in hell to transfer a file via cable from my PC.
Here are some shots:

There's no KIES anymore, tried Smart Switch from Samsung, didn't work because my Windows 10 is version N, without Media Pack.
Strangely I can't find over the internet any mention to this problem.
Anyone there to give me a hand on this?
Tried updating the driver?
http://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows
Uninstall that unrecognised one if it lets you first
It's possible it's not the phone driver causing the problem too, chipset/USB?
Also try this program "Ghostbuster"
https://ghostbuster.codeplex.com/
1. Disconnect phone
2. Right click an entry of each section and choose "Add Class"
3. Once all sections are highlighted, hit "Remove ghosts" at the bottom right
It might restart the program again as Administrator without removing them first time around, if so just hit remove ghosts again
Reboot the machine and connect the phone

Thanks for your reply.
I've tried this driver before, it didn't work. It's also quite outdated (2015).
Ghostbuster was a nice touch, I didn't know this one. It has not fixed the problem, but it's another tool to try in the future problems that I face. I will try to find a different computer to connect to.
In the meanwhile, I'm relying on Resilio/Airdroid sort of solutions, but Wifi is a lot slower for files over 4GB, which are usually my kind of transfer.

Note 8 Exynos Nougat ADB USB Allow Data Popup

Hi, I have a rooted Exynos Note 8 Duos on Nougat (7.1.1) connected to a Win 7 Ultimate x64 PC
Every time I connect the phone via USB to the PC I get a nag screen on the phone asking me to "allow access to phone data"...and it's exasperating. I'm also aware that if I were ever to accidentally click DENY, then it's a pain to resolve that issue.
I'd like to get rid of the "allow data" nag/prompt and always allow data access from the PC in question.
I believe I have the latest samsung and adb drivers.
The "allow" screen once accepted on a different PC does not return.
I have USB debugging enabled AND I have already asked the phone to remember the PC and not ask for debugging permission again. (Generating the RSA key).
I believe the problem is that I use a sync program called birdiesync for syncing mail and calendars to thunderbird on the PC. Birdiesync is installed on PC and on Device.
Birdiesync (PC) comes with its own version of ADB.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\BirdieSync\Android\Adb\1.0.26\adb.exe
...Which is in addidtion to the one used buy Android Studio (also installed)
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\platform-tools\adb.exe
Tried revoking the USB debug RSA keys and restarting ADB server then reconnecting and I get the initial allow USB debugging popup with the remember option

, which I allow. I additionally get the generic nag screen which pops under the primary one figB.
...which I also allow but which will return on every USB disconnect/reconnect.
Do I need to copy/move the RSA key on device to a different folder?
Can anybody help?
Cheers
Samsung Smart Switch - Allow Data - No more nagging
I resolved the issue by installing "Samsung Smart Switch" on the PC then connecting the phone once. Pressing "allow data" then disconnecting and uninstalling Samsung Smart Switch. Not sure what this program did...but it worked.
It's not a graceful solution. I can only assume some part of either ADB or USB drivers got updated with the install and allowed a proper RSA key to be generated on the phone.

No USB Mass Storage (MSC) mode in Android 10??

connecting phone to pc via PTP/MTP or "file transfer" suck because you can't browse full photos without downloading them to local drive first for example.
USB Mass Storage mode doesn't have this deficiency, is there easy way to get it back?
device?
Cubot king kong mini 2
it also happens on other android devices!
You can't bring back

Modern Android devices use different USB connection protocols, for example MTP what acts a lot like USB mass storage. This because the Android file system had to be accessible from Windows device, it had to be formatted with the FAT file system. Not only does Microsoft have patents it exerts on FAT, FAT is also an older, slower file system without a modern permission system.
An MTP device shows up in Windows Explorer so you can browse and transfer files.
For wireless file transfers, a good choice is AirDroid. It allows you to connect to your Android device over Wi-Fi with just a web browser, moving files back and forth without the necessity of a cable. It will likely be a bit slower, but it can be a life-saver if you’re out and about and didn’t bring the appropriate USB cable. For transferring files from Android to your PC, Portal is also a quick and easy solution.
thanks, I've actually found some ad-free apps on https://playsearch.kaki87.net/

I suggest using x-plore and using the same network to transfer/view files. Have been using it's wifi share function since 2014 or something.
