Hi, all.
After the last big windows update, my Galaxy S7 MTP connection stopped to work. It was working like a charm before. Now the driver is not recognized by Windows and there's no way in hell to transfer a file via cable from my PC.
Here are some shots:

There's no KIES anymore, tried Smart Switch from Samsung, didn't work because my Windows 10 is version N, without Media Pack.
Strangely I can't find over the internet any mention to this problem.
Anyone there to give me a hand on this?
Tried updating the driver?
http://developer.samsung.com/galaxy/others/android-usb-driver-for-windows
Uninstall that unrecognised one if it lets you first
It's possible it's not the phone driver causing the problem too, chipset/USB?
Also try this program "Ghostbuster"
https://ghostbuster.codeplex.com/
1. Disconnect phone
2. Right click an entry of each section and choose "Add Class"
3. Once all sections are highlighted, hit "Remove ghosts" at the bottom right
It might restart the program again as Administrator without removing them first time around, if so just hit remove ghosts again
Reboot the machine and connect the phone

Thanks for your reply.
I've tried this driver before, it didn't work. It's also quite outdated (2015).
Ghostbuster was a nice touch, I didn't know this one. It has not fixed the problem, but it's another tool to try in the future problems that I face. I will try to find a different computer to connect to.
In the meanwhile, I'm relying on Resilio/Airdroid sort of solutions, but Wifi is a lot slower for files over 4GB, which are usually my kind of transfer.

I'm floundering here, so if mods feel this belongs in the Android subforum (is there one? I'm using a Dream specifically, but I'm sure this could be applicable to the Magic just as much), go right ahead please.
I am using windows 7. I just love it. HTC Hotsync installs fine, but the Vista 32bit driver installed 'incorrectly'. Any attempt now to uninstall it fails, so I'm stuck.

That's the weird error I get when the uninstall fails. BTW., I've tried uninstalling both from the Driver menu itself in start, as well as from add/remove from the control panel.
Also see this window. Not sure if I can use this even?
I have tried to reinstall/re-run the driver install file, but it won't work. I've tried restarting, uninstalling...but it doesn't help.
Can someone suggest how I can 'hard' or 'force' uninstall this driver? or whatever is left of it?
I have run this Hotsync in XP fine, so I know what I'm doing...it's just in W7 that I must've mucked up the nuances of run driver>THEN plug in phone, or vice versa., or I might've enabled hotsync on the phone, when I didn't need to and that mucked it up lol.
This is the HTC link for the Hotsync and such. I followed the instructions for Vista installation. I've also tried the 'run as administrator', but again, not being able to uninstall the first failed driver installation is kind of hindering any decent 2nd "Go' at it.
Can someone confirm if Android does not sync via WWMD at all? We must use Hotsync? btw., WHY...don't they have Hotsync available in a clear link from the main page-as opposed to buried deep in HTC Asia's Magic menu??
Update:
I tried it on my lenovo...W7. Same result. No connection., no proper initialization.
I ran it as administrator.
I ran it under vista sp3 compatibility mode...NADDA.
The usb driver registers fine, but 'Android Phone' driver is 'not found' .
I got a useless allbeit PROMPT reply form letter from HTC today not helping me whatsoever . "We do not support W7"...gee, what a surprise lol.
No luck with W7 so far.
My CPU doesn't support virtualization which was a possible solution somebody on hofo mentioned.
Looks like there's no hope for now.
Someone please help
I’ve been using ADB for awhile on my Windows 7 and it use to work perfectly without any problem. However recently, whenever I connect my phone (HTC Desire HD) to my PC, I don’t know why Window suddenly freezes after few minutes (varies between 1 to 7 min) and I have no option but to restart by pulling the plug.
Any idea how I can fix this?
Thanks and any advice/help will be highly appreciated,
USBDview is a free application from the NirSoft range and allow you to not only view the USB devices connected to your PC, and give you valuable information like VendorID, ProductID but also gives the power usage of the USB device. This can be at times good for troubleshooting any USB issues as they maybe power related.

Use it's free and remove all what you see when you use it. Then reboot the system.

I'm just flashed to 1.7. Was on 1.6 and had this problem. I can't connect to any pc's over usb. I just bought a new cord because the original was sucked into a vacuum.
Anyways when I plug in the TF to a pc I get a bubble pop up that says "the connected usb device as malfunctioned"
Or on my wifes pc it tried to install the driver but it always fail. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the asus pc suite but it hasn't helped anything.
I'm getting worried its a hardware issue any help would be awesome!
Heres a shot of the error I'm getting.

Yeah i'm now getting the same problem. I'm using prime 1.9.1 and also i have re installed the suite/drivers. I would really like it if someone could give this question an answer. Also i have Windows x64
did you enable usb debugging on the tf?
Yah it sucks I never got mine working. Now the battery is draining over night if I leave it unplugged, thats with wifi off. But I can't even consider rma over the usb because it is rooted.
I'm also facing the same problem. Detection on my pc is like a hit & miss affair. Wonder if this got to do with a faulty usb/data cable?

I replaced mine with an asus cable. Not some knock off, and it didn't help anything.
I returned one not long after purchasing because of a similar issue. Tried on many PC's and different cables, made no difference. I think it is a hardware fault, reasonably common too. Can you not flash back to stock to RMA?

The problem is you need to plug it into a pc to reflash it. I had a thread going on this before, I think someone recomended a method for that had came out where you could flash without a pc. I'm a little nervous honestly to mess with it because it something goes wrong without the usb port working its done.
Hey guys if this post is not in the correct place please move it. :good:
I just stopped using home WiFi and started looking up tutorials to connect phones data plan to my computer.
i found a way using clockworkmod tether while i was on windows 8.1.
i just thought about upgrading mi computer to windows 10.
What i didn't know was that the program wont connect with the phone.
After searching through google i thought about giving up.
But then i thought about modifing a plugin.
so this is the program cwmtether as you all know
you can get this from their official site http://www.clockworkmod.com/

What is this fix for? No problems with with 10 64 enterprise here.
How do i remove tether app from my phone? Uninstalling says "uninstall finished" and then when i connect usb cable the app is back. Any way to get rid of it? Lineage 14.
Works great on my Acer Aspire 3 laptop
Was having some trouble getting a connection until I saw this thread and followed the steps, now it works great. Thanks. :good:

hey there you need to uninstall the program from your computer go to windows settings and uninstall it or turn off usb debugging on your phone
the fix is because on some windows 10 builds it says it is not connected to an internet conection when tether is conected
This helped hold by connection. I was having random disconnects.
When i connect my computer it works but i was wondering if i can make my Windows 10 laptop to share connection somehow for more devices, it is not showing in my hotspot on my laptop.
Yes

Yes, it works, when I tried on my Acer it is working perfectly but I followed this guide for getting the help.
I have a Samsung (6) running Android 7 which I am using for USB-tethering (on a Raspberry Pi 4).
For (to me) unknown reasons the USB-tethering is occasionally switched off (=not only at re-boot of the device).
I was thinking that it would be great if I could create some sort of little process which makes sure to switch on USB-tethering every 30 seconds or so.
I have done some google script programming, but have no idea how to approach this issue on an Android device.
Any sort of suggestions if this is doable and how I could/should start would be most appreciated, but please remember I am a beginner and I do not intend to become an Android programmer.
Also: the device is not rooted (whatever that means).
Thank you.

You can always use an app like Automate, it's very easy to understand and use. One thing to keep in mind, USB tethering access is intentionally restricted (for security reasons) from Android 7.0 upwards for external apps. Most apps require you to manually go to settings and turn it on.
Luckily some android skins (like Samsung's OneUI or other OEMs) still allow access, you will need to try it out for yourself. Here is how your "script" or whatever you call it should look like:

Make sure your USB cable is connected properly at both ends. If needed, unplug and plug it in again. Trying another USB cable is also a good idea if you have one to hand.
If you're plugged into a USB 2.0 port, try a USB 3.0, or USB 3.1. Alternatively, just try a different one. You never know if the USB port is faulty.
Rebooting your PC or laptop and restarting your phone might not be the solution to everything, but it's surprising how often it can fix something. Try it out, in this case, to see if your Windows tethering problem is fixed.
Solved by rooting the device and then using MacroDroid
