Hi, I've been away from the game for a while but I couldn't find a dedicated forum for the 4a 5g (I have the Verizon 4a 5g UW)....
Is this the forum to use?
Anyone know if this can be unlocked & rooted? I really want to disable the Spyware and 5g UW radio.
Any leads greatly appreciated!

I'm very confused about this point. I'm guessing the answer is NO because I'm sure it would be displayed pretty prominently on the official OnePlus website if it was 5G compatible. I thought that the OnePlus 7 Pro was going to have 5G included and the OnePlus 7 wasn't going to have the 5G?
Can someone please clarify this
No, it doesn't have 5G support, there will be another version of the 7 Pro released later this year (possibly only in selected markets) that will have a 5G modem.

Ok thanks. I'm definitely NOT buying this phone then. I'm good with my Note 9 for a bit longer then.

FWIW, judging by the LTE roll-out, by the time 5G hits NYC, 1+8 or 1+9 might be out already...

No clue and I don't really care. As duncanbyy said: If you buy a 5G phone now, you'll probably want to buy a new phone again before 5G actually becomes viable. Instead, it's probably going to have worse battery life because the 5G modem couldn't be integrated in the Snapdragon 855 SoC but is an extra chip...
The 5G variant should be released around the time that the 7T would have been released, but there won't be a 7T. T-Mobile's 5G launch should be some time this fall. For anyone wanting a OnePlus 5G device, the 7 and 7 Pro are not it.

exactly this. no reason to hold out. no 5g infrastructure around me even. by the time that comes - or if - I'll be getting a new phone. no doubt. but that's easy due to my region.
then now that we are talking about 5G models
can anybody tell me why some phones are called GM1915 an some GM1917
Yes OnePlus team claims it'll support 5G

I have asked the rep from OnePlus if this will support 5G and he said yes it will there isn't a different device you need to get. The pro is 5G capable and this is confirmed.

Ok, now I'm confused. If this phone is 5G capable then I may still consider getting it.
If it's 5G capable why isn't that advertised?

Because no providers offer 5G for at least a year no matter what they claim. At&t lies. They don't deliver 5G and neither does VZW. The other two don't claim to even be working on it right now.

I'm sorry but you're the only person I have heard say that this phone is 5G capable. Every Google search shows websites stating that there will be 3 variants of this phone:
7, 7 Pro and 7 Pro 5G.
IDC if the infrastructure for 5G won't be completed for s while. I need to know if this phone is really 5G capable or not

The 5G the OnePlus 7 Pro supports is for Europe and Asia only. Not North America!
I believe this identifies the phone as either the unlocked or carrier version.

It's a firmware difference. Nothing more. The hardware is the same outside of the T-Mobile version having the second SIM tray filled in, but flashing it will enable the second SIM slot.
That is not true

There is no 5G phone specifically for any region. It will work with 5G (OnePlus 7 Pro variant) . And real 5G is not coming to TMO for years from what rumor has it. It will need to be a firmware update more than likely as the antenna in the phone are all the same! I asked the rep and he told me that it was ready for 5G. You do not wanna believe a guy that works for the company and said he goes to pop up events in cities like LA and NYC then dont. Buy something else. The rumors that they would make two different phones were incorrect. There is no such model as OnePlus 7 Pro 5G. That is because all the 7 Pros are 5G capable. So do not want to trust me, fine. Buy a crap Samsung 10+ that supposedly is 5G ready. I would bet that the antenna in it is no different than OP7Pro.
The teardowns have been definitive. There are no 5G mmwave antennas or Snapdragon X50 inside.
Is there undisclosed 3.5 GHz 5G capability? Maybe. The firmware has hints of it. But again, no identifiable hardware to use it.

Correct, OnePlus confirmed the 5G version have slightly different insides to fit the 5G modem. So standard Pro wont work with 5G.
5G is a No go with the current Pro...
Am i correct in assuming this doesn't have 5g? How come? Does it have to be enabled?
5g has hardware requirements, a 5g modem chip, Zenfone 6 doesn't have one. So, no it can't be enabled.
Edit: Confirmation of NO 5G form Asus: https://zentalk.asus.com/en/discussion/6296/zenfone-6-5g-querry

Right now you have to buy devices that specifically support 5G. It's not standard. It requires a separate 5G modem.
5G should be integrated next year and should therefore be supported in some form in Snapdragon 865 devices.
In its current state, 5G modems also costs more.. uses more battery, take up way more space to implement.. and the networks are kinda so-so in terms of readiness and wide-spread-ness...
There is a reason why all the 5G phones released so far are all very large.. and also not exactly in the "affordable" space
5G is in my eyes anyway a totally unnecessary development. I do not see the need to have everything connected, speed is already good for 3G, coverage of 5G is lower requiring more towers, and radiation exposure and its implications on health are not clearly evaluated.
As for the OP (@salespalace), why do think you need 5G?
Don't really need it at the moment to be honest. Just wanted to make sure. Interesting to see if they release a 5g version
This main forum, as out description, addresses the Reno3 Pro Indian version with Helio P95 CPU, ⁸GB RAM and 128/256GB ROM.
There's also a Snapdragon 765 variant with Max 12GB RAM and different camera setup available, in Asia with 5G, in Europe 4G only.
Shall this forum cover all variants?
I would appreciate if it could. I own the 4G variant with Snap 765 5G, but the 5G is blocked in this phone (model CPH2009). Wondering if there is any possibility to somehow unlock it to have the 5G running.
I own the same model, bought it in Austria, but it is variant from Poland.
Firmware is the same for Find X2 Neo and Reno 3 Pro, I downloaded it from different sites and always worked OK
Currently I see no advantage of 5G, just consumes more energy, but would be nichte if 5G would be unlocked.
What I heared is, that Find X2 neo also has 5G disabled and will be enabled in future versions.
Is this possible? I know on the Samsung you can with QuickShortCutMaker but I can't seem to find the option on the 4a. If I set it to NR only I get no service. Basically I have 5G available but LTE seems to have a stronger signal therefore it locks on the LTE band nearly all the time. If I do happen to hit 5G it switches back after a while. I use this as a hotspot and it would be nice to have the 5G speeds when I use the hotspot as the LTE is not to great. I am not rooted (yet) but figured I'd ask the experts to see if this is possible.
This is a question for the Pixel 4a 5G so not sure why it was moved from the 4a 5G forum to the 4a forum...
Cause I bought a exynos note 20 ultra last year off amazon and it could only get to lte but not 5g and I got it to get 5g and be able to root. So I returned it and just got a snapdragon version and just lived without root which is honestly fine btw. Will the same thing happen if I buy an exynos s22 ultra? Or can the snapdragon version be rooted this time? Pls don't yell at me if this has been asked but the search bar here is confusing and I'm baked af

Well, not knowing which carrier you use, I don't know what else to say.... Perhaps take a look at the source the next time you're not "Baked AF".....
No ill will intended, but, if you give the site a good look, you'll be able to figure it out.

The most reliable way to ensure your device will support 5G is aquire your Service Provider's device.
Typically with the Exynos variants you can access root but since it's a brand new version ask a Exynos user if bootloader unlock is available in developer options. If you're going to be in US it probably won't connect.
Again typlically only the Snapdragon version from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong (SM-G9080) will offer unlocking the bootloader. If you're going to be in US it probably won't connect.
Be aware OneUI 4.1 may have eliminated bootloader unlock.

Thanks bud, what a gentleman I have tmobile in the US. So your saying if I get a tmobile exynos I can have 5g in the US no prob? And is snapdragon s22 ultra rootable or is it just the exynos version?

The T-Mobile device is a Snapdragon variant, if that's your carrier and you need 5G it's your best option. The T-Mobile device, if it's the same as it's predecessor the S21 Ultra, can't be rooted. T-Mobile only sells Snapdragon variants.
My experience with a HK s21 ultra that has the same bands as exynos s21 is that 5G doesn't work in the US asot didn't have
the key 5G bands. On TMobile it sometimes says 5G as the device has one if the bands tmob uses for 5G in the US but it's phantom, and you only get 4G.

Yep, I have the SM-G9980 on T-Mobile and Network Mode displays 5G but it never connects. For me 5G is close to useless and I'd rather not have T-mobile's bloatware and prefer the unlocked bootloader. Not to mention no long term carrier commitment if you're looking for a discount on a new device.
