Manual band selection on Pixel 4a 5G? - Google Pixel 4a Questions & Answers

Is this possible? I know on the Samsung you can with QuickShortCutMaker but I can't seem to find the option on the 4a. If I set it to NR only I get no service. Basically I have 5G available but LTE seems to have a stronger signal therefore it locks on the LTE band nearly all the time. If I do happen to hit 5G it switches back after a while. I use this as a hotspot and it would be nice to have the 5G speeds when I use the hotspot as the LTE is not to great. I am not rooted (yet) but figured I'd ask the experts to see if this is possible.

This is a question for the Pixel 4a 5G so not sure why it was moved from the 4a 5G forum to the 4a forum...

AT&T Note 10 SM-N970U 5G support?

Note sure if this phone actually getting 5G or just a displaying bug for data connection. Got this phone right after Christmas from AT&T.
I know Plano/North Dallas TX area have 5G coverage up and running.
When I'm at my workplace area in Plano TX, my phone shows 5G data. Surprised me! Is this just a bug? I read that Galaxy Note 10 N970U do not have 5G support. Only the Note 10+ 5G specific model. (not Note 10 and Note 10+)
Is anyone seeing this on their Note 10 N970U?
Even though it shows 5G data, is it only running at 4G LTE?
If the phone is really using 5G, how do I turn it off and only use 4G LTE? I try to find in settings to turn it off, but cannot locate it.
Thanks for your help in advance :good:

Force carrier band

Is there a way to force carrier band on the 4a? Specifically for Tmobile/Sprint. Rooted OK if necessary.
Came here to look for the same thing.
That’s why I’m going with the 4a 5g so I can access 600mhz towers. I don’t believe you can access them in 4g
@xenokc You need root and an app like Network Signal Guru. We fought some issues on the Pixel 4's but have a new method for Android 11 that is simpler. It also works for the Pixel 3 and I expect it to work on the Pixel 4a. You are welcome to try, the instructions are here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=83499679&postcount=75 The app is in the Play Store.
@Jonathanlc2005 600mhz is the frequency that the network can operator on. T-Mobile uses 600mhz for LTE (Band 71) and 5G (n71). The Pixel 4a does support LTE Band 71. The Pixel 5 and 4a (5G) supports LTE B71 and 5G n71. http://band71.batcave.net/

T-Mobile US

Anyone using the Poco F2 Pro on T-Mobile in the US?
I am. Reception is no different than my T-mobile OP 7pro. The F2pro also don't have tmobile 5g bands.
I tried to reply on Reddit to your question, but guess it didnt show due to low post count. I'm using a Xiaomi Mi 10 Global in the USA and I have VoLTE enabled over a Tmobile MVNO. Wifi calling does not really work properly, at least with the provided IMS settings. As stated above, 5G will NOT work in the USA due to Xiaomi missing necessary USA 5G bands; and 4G LTE may be a hit or miss depending on your area. As long as you're not getting the phone for 5G, it's an excellent purchase! It's not going to be necessary to have a 5G enabled phone for many years anyways, 4G is really fast enough. Hope this helps

Are you getting voLTE on T-Mobile? If so, did you have to use the dialer code to enable it?

Thanks for the info. I currently have a Mi 9 and have voLTE on T-Mobile and Fi (I did have to use the dialer code). I was just wondering if it's different for the F2 considering it lacks band 12 that the Mi 9 has. Looks like the Mi 10 global has the same bands as the F2, and you're getting voLTE, so I should be good. I also had a Mi A2 in the past, which had bands 2 and 4, which was fine, but voLTE wouldn't work, even with the dialer code. So calls defaulted to 3G, and I would constantly miss calls because it wouldn't ring. I just want to make 100% sure I can get voLTE with the F2 before buying.

Yes I'm getting voLTE and voWifi. I used the dialer code but the funny thing is to enable both I actually had to disable them. Even though after the code I get a prompt that the they're disable they are actually enabled.

No problem. I had Google Fi on my Pixel, then got the SIM to use for the Xiaomi Mi 10 Global and everything worked, but I just ended up going with another cheaper MVNO for Tmobile. The only complaint I have is generally I receive like 1-2 bars of reception in my house, when I go about 2 miles out it will jump up to 4+ bars. So when you receive your F2 Pro after setting up the APN settings, ensure in "preferred network type" it is 5G and not LTE! It will obviously not connect with 5G and default back to 4G LTE, but I had a random bug when setting it manually to 4G without voLTE, my phone calls would cut out at exactly 8minutes on the dot, NO Idea why that would happen, just giving you a warning lol. You don't need to use the dialer code by the way, you can set the "Use VoLTE" in the Mobile Network Settings and you will see a VoLTE button ontop. Have fun with your future F2, it's a great purchase .

mine is a global on postpaid att
Go into dialer settings #*#*4636*#*# phone info and make sure Nr is selected
AT&T doesn't have the OP9 as a certified phone on their network. There is no way around this, either. I've tried everything and even selecting NR doesn't yield 5G on the device. It has something to do with the bands AT&T users for 5G.
Do you get the 5G symbol or does it just stay on LTE?
You might be able to change "carrier_policy" using the Qualcomm .exe and QTSP .exe on the computer.

This right here. As a former AT&T employee (corporate office, not retail level), I can tell you that it is most likely that the handset does not use the same 5G bands as AT&T.
AT&T primarily uses the n260 band (39GHz mmWave) and the Global OnePlus 9 does not use that band. In fact, none of the models of OnePlus 9 use n260. Now, from what I understand, AT&T *does* provide low-band n5 service in some areas so it IS possible that some users may report having 5G service on their OP9, but it's purely because they're in a low-band n5 area and as soon as they move into a more populated area where it switches to n260Go to and see, their phone will drop back to LTE.
What I can tell you from my real world experience is that 5G is really nothing to write home about. I live in one of the largest markets in the US and 5G is really not any faster than LTE most of the time. In some cases, it's actually SLOWER.

The LE2115 OnePlus 9 has AT&T's low band and C-Band 5G bands, with no mmWave, the LE2125 9 Pro has all of AT&T's 5G bands yet AT&T does not want to whitelist it for 5G access on their network. Verizon certified it for their 5G (OnePlus 9, nationwide 5G, and you can use QPST to enable C-Band on the 9, OnePlus 9 Pro, nationwide 5G, you can use QPST to enable C-Band on the 9 Pro, and mmWave), why can't AT&T?

Question Im still getting these issue.

I circled the issue here. It's an exclamation point that on the signal bars. I have full signal but no internet connectivity. Look at what it says under internet (networks available) even though it says I have 5guc. The only thing that immediately clears this is clicking the tool and circle in the upper right corner.
I would get this issue on the pixel 6 pro alot more but it's still happening albeit alot less on the pixel 7 pro.
Anyone else getting this issue?
Never saw that on any phone. Seeing how you've experienced it on two different phones makes me think either you have a 3rd party app causing this OR it has something to do with your provider.

try changing your network from 5g to lte, see if it improves
I am starting to think this is a T-Mobile 5G SA problem. I have a Tello eSIM that uses T-Mobile and it works fine but when I used the T-Mobile Network Pass eSIM to try out T-Mobile postpaid, it was constantly dropping and was actually booting both my eSIMs from the network.
On my OnePlus 9, the Tello pSIM would drop data all the time if it connected to 5G SA but fortunately I could disable that in developer options. There is no such option on the Pixel and my Tello pSIM was doing the same thing when I first got the new phone. Converting my Tello pSIM to eSIM just seems to have disabled 5G SA entirely on it so I wasn't having the problem again until the T-Mobile eSIM.
This was the reason why i gave up on the P6 Pro a year ago!
It is less, but still have some times the issue! Connected to 5G, good signal, but no Data Connection, and after few Minutes i get the ! sign!
few minutes more, and the connection is coming back!
Provider A1 and Magenta in Austria!
Yes I have that on P7P. That and many other issues, calls start burbling after 8-10 minutes. I miss calls, in general the network is very slow.
Waiting for an update before returning it.
I believe this is a T-mobile issue. Where I live I get 5G UC around half the time compared with just 5G. There are a few spots where 5G UC shows connected however no data will pass. Same issue on my iPad Pro. At least I can turn off 5G UC on the iPad Pro. Can't find any setting where you can disable just the 5G UC.

On the P6P, I had ridiculous Signal and Battery issues - til I disabled 5G. Where it's strong, T-Mob 5G is great but where it's barely coming in, it's terrible. Even on the P7P, the first thing I did in Network was choose LTE as my preferred

In the first place we believed that the porblem was Hardware in Pixel 6, but I consume that's not Tensor's problem anymore. It might be, but the carriers with the 5G antenna upgrades don't help the situation.
Do you live in supported by Google country, or not?
As i can say, i had this issue the first time with the Note 10 + (Exynos) ... the Pixel 6 Pro was very bad with this issue, as i had to return it!
Now with the Pixel 7 Pro it started again, not that often as the P6P ... but still! And just on 5G!
Between with the S22U Snapdragon (S908E and S9080), also with the OnePlus and Sony etc ... i never had this issue!
so, i think it is a Exynos Modem Issue with few Provider Hardware

I can confidently say it's not a hardware issue, I get this one of the networks. I use dual sim one is esim with 5g connection which works perfectly, but the other one with a physical sim gives this as when it loses the network signal
Could it be a APN settings issue? I get this on my carrier if i don't set the proper APN settings.
I had this with EE in the UK on their Esim. Switched to Vodafone and haven't had the issue since
I do think when I used the phone before I gave it to my wife, that I saw the same things. And yes, I'm on T Mobile.

Yes, I'm in the US. It only seems to be a problem on T-Mobile and they're the only ones here that have a 5G standalone network (making things worse, they have it on both their 5G frequencies now so it happens every time that 5G connects). My Tello physical SIM that uses the T-Mobile network was doing the same thing until I converted it to eSIM and now it doesn't connect to the 5G SA network anymore (whether intentional or a bug is yet to be seen) and I've had no data drops.
For the record, I have heard this same complaint levied at iPhones.

I have no clue.
The problem with two Sims simultaneously is obvious mainly in unsupported carriers (the trick is to switch the one sim to only 2G).
Maybe the antennas are weak in this specific area so the call falls from to 2G and this might occurs the problem (?)
Same issues started on my One Plus 7T Pro. No 5g, LTE works perfect. No version of APN settings can get 5g back. It's definitely a 5g SA issue.
Could be: intentional, tmobile/Tello issue they are unaware of, or just something they are fixing.... for over a month now lol

Check your developer options for a 5G network mode one. If you have it, switch it to 5G NSA only. That fixed it on my OnePlus 9. Seems to be hit or miss which OnePlus devices have the option though.

No my rooted 7T Pro / Android 11 does not have this in developer option to switch between NSA and SA.
And I couldn't find any other way to mess with this setting unfortunately
With *#*#4636#*#* I can mess with a lot of antenna stuff, but still no NSA / SA option.
Everything I've read is that 5g NSA works and SA does not. Even though SA worked for years up until around early November from what I noticed
