Any chance that the desktop mode on android q be supported by pixel 3? Knowing that there is no HDMI out for pixel 3, would Google be able to enable HDMI out via a software update? Alternatively, can we use casting to enable the desktop mode on a secondary display with a Chromecast?
Now that Android 10 is available on Pixel 3 and 3 XL, can someone try a USB-C to HDMI adapter with Android 10 update to see if Google has activated HDMI over USB-C for Desktop Mode ? Thank you in advance guys ?
Disappointing, doesn’t do anything here. Never heard anything again about Desktop mode, except of the beginning of beta1.
@trinec it does work on OnePlus 7, 7 Pro and Essential Phone since Android 10 update, you just have to enable 'Force desktop mode' in Developer Settings, restart the phone and plug a USB-C to HDMI adapter

Enabled it, pluged it into a usb-c hdmi adapter: didn't do anything.
On the Oneplus 7 it seems to be pretty bad compared to Samsung Dex. So we are only missing out on google style alpha version of a desktop mode.
Thank you @madphone ! All Pixel smartphones (1, 1XL, 2, 2XL, 3, 3XL) have USB 3 except 3a and 3a XL which have USB 2 so Google could activate USB-C to HDMI support with a simple OTA update like LG did with Android 9 update on LG G7, V35 and V40 but they don't, for sure they want you to buy a chromecast but it has a way too high input lag in comparison to USB-C to HDMI adapters. Maybe it could be enabled with an alternative ROM but more and more Android smartphones are becoming compatible with HDMI adapters, soon all Android flagships will support HDMI except Pixels. High end smartphone (price) with low end capabilities, I think that's an enough reason for not buying it.
If you want an improved Desktop Mode on OnePlus 7 more similar to Samsung Dex you can install Sentio Desktop https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sentio.desktop
Hi all,
I've purchased OP7 Pro on launch and I'm happy that it supports DisplayPort. I'm going to be using desktop mode in my office. I would obviously need it to be charging while working.
Is there a 2 in 1 dongle solution where you can use display port and charge the phone at the same time?
Does USB C would even allow that kind of dongle and is it possible?
Any other solutions on my case?
Thanks in advance
Edit:
would something like this work?
https://plugable.com/products/usbc-hub3p/
I am trying this one with my OP7 and it is working pretty good.

Are you able to use a USB keyboard and mouse HDMI out and power
Hello guys,
I have a problem with my OP7 pro, I have this OTG hub NOVOO USB C Hub (8-in-1) HDMI 4K,...
Originally bought for the Mate 20 pro, and was working fine except on this OP7 pro (and even without the IpadOS 13). When I connect it to the OP with and SD card it seems not connected at all, even if the OTG mode it's on.
Do you have any solution? What can I do? Other USB c key seems to works fine, anyway.
Thanks

There used to be an option in developer options.
Enable usb host or something on the OnePlus 5 may still be the same.

I found a solution to make the hdmi hub working, these are the steps, you need to follow them in order otherwise it'll not work:
Connect the hdmi cable to the hub and the tv.
Then connect the usb c of the hub to the power source and wait 10 seconds.
Then connect to the phone and wait.
The power source needs to be always connected otherwise the hub doesn't work.

Hi at all,
who of you, guy has use otg cable for connect drive or pendrive on our phone?
I plug a pendrive using different otg cable that I have, but nothing happen.
I use OTG tester app and it say that OTG is enable, but nothingi happen.
So I've to understand if my phone is defective or there is some option to enable it.
I activeted CIT menù to test OTG but it fail.
IMO the issue depends for alimentation, because if I connect a drone (I'm modellist) nothing happen, while if I do the same on other phone the drone ligh on.
Any idea?
Just connected an old USB I had laying around with the USB OTG adapter I still had from my OnePlus One.
Stick was in fat32 I believe and I have an Android 11 ROM (Latest Nitrogen OS) on the Phone.
Anyway, no problems whatsoever. Was recognized immediately and gave me the Options to Explore/Eject, without any prior settings or anything.

thanks for test
my Android version is stock 10, with 2.04 MIUI stable.
I don't know if it depend from a bug or hardware issue.
The phone has 3 mounth live and I would't like to return it to Amazon for the change.
I was unlucky with Xiomi this time. I bought the RedMi note 9 pro and I change it for camera problems (dust in the lens). Now with this OTG issue....:crying:
I have tried 2 different Ethernet adapter/hubs with my Pixel 7 Pro. They are: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09LCHDRP9/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W52R8KY?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details These will not allow the Ethernet tethering setting to activate on the Pixel 7 Pro, although both work instantly with my Samsung. I need one that will put a mouse pointer on the phone's screen and allow the use of a keyboard, and may need power input, unless I can power it with the phone upside down in the pixel stand. If nothing else, a working plain Ethernet adapter, and I will use Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. Google sells one for their 4k chromecast, but they fail to specify if it will work for Ethernet tethering on the Pixel 7 Pro.

I haven't been able to get anything to work with stability on either of my two docks so I don't have a large enough selection to make a definitive statement on the support, but the farthest I've gotten is using my dock that has an RTL8153A-4. It will work for a bit, but when pushing enough data it'll end up resetting. Hits up to 400Mbps but then it drops out. That's par for the course with early RTL8153 chips. It's also a terrible dock and the seller has been banned from Amazon for one reason or another, so can add that on too.
On the other hand I have a more modern Yottamaster NVMe dock that I use with my Steam Deck and it works great. Surprisingly, it is almost fully functional on my phone except for display (obviously know why) and Ethernet. It's using the RTL8153B-2, but I can't get any data to pass over it. The r8152 kernel driver reports that it can't load the firmware, because the phone doesn't have any firmware from linux-firmware outside of what is needed for the hardware internally. Both the kernel driver and Ethernet system report when a cable is connected and the carrier is on, but nothing makes it over the cable.
The first dock you linked also has an RTL8153, so at this point I'm guessing newer revision RTL8153 support is just broken on the phones without the ability to load firmware for them. The second dock you linked inspires some confidence that it will have an AX88178 controller in it, but I've looked at docks recently on Amazon and ones that list AX88178/AX88179 are apparently silently subbing them out for the RTL8153 according to reviews. You're going to have to plug it in to your computer to check what the Ethernet controller shows up as.
Best course of action I can see is to either try to find a dock with an AX88178 in it if your second dock actually has an RTL8153 in it, or get an older USB 2.0 RTL8152 adapter since those are more reliable although that restricts you to 10/100.
It's a bit of an older model but I have been using an Aukey CB-C71 with a Pixel 7 Pro and previously Pixel 6 Pro with ethernet, USB-PD, USB keyboard, and USB wireless mouse. I have used USB PD with everything from the original Nexus 6p chargers to various Windows and Mac laptop chargers without issues.

I'm curious, do you know what chipset the CB-C71 uses? I have another adapter on the way from Amazon, if that doesn't work out I may try the CB-C71 or a device with a similar chipset.

I really can't say for sure, but this is the output from 'sudo lshw'

RTL8153B-2, interesting that it doesn't have any issues.
I found an adapter that works: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BGHKLSPG?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details It is gigabit, with power port. It works without its power plugged in and the phone upside down on the powered pixel stand. I would still like to buy a real hub with gigabit ethernet for the P7P, if someone finds one.
This Anker one works just fine

That meets most of my specs. The problem is only 4k 30hz HDMI. If I want to use it with a 4k 60hz device that can use the HDMI output, (obviously not the crippled Pixel line) I would be downgrading.
